Some teams are just built for the pre-season.

gu3st12

Not all teams have the endurance to win 2-8 games.

Waramp

It helps when your pre-season roster is the same as your regular season roster.

T_Wrexks

Didn't the Lions who went 0-16 in the NFL season go 4-0 in pre-season too? Edit: not saying OP should have included them, just saying it's funny how Pre-season success is basically inverse of regular season success in this small sample size

AmeriCanadian98

The 0-16 Lions and 0-16 Browns both went 4-0 in their preseasons

Tmans3

then again the Ravens are like 23 for their last 23 in preseason games. (i think it’s why they always get so injured in season)

brickwall5

Kind of makes sense. Often when your future is the brightest (I.e tons of skilled prospects to put in pre-season games + character vets who excel against worse competitions) you’re going to do really well in preseason because other teams have worse prospect pools/ are just warming up for the reg season rather than having full rosters of prove it guys.

GodzPizzaman

We've lost 3 straight this pre season

MysticalMango21

Might as well plan the parade already

DujonMustard

Tank started too soon.

myaltaccount333

Coyotes warming up right now. Getting good practice on how to lose games for the tank

swirls11

Undefeated regular season incoming

hockeycross

Except that Avs team had like 5 players that won the cup. Mackinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen, Compher and Johnson. Rantanen and Compher were the only rookies.

blueline7677

Bad teams have more players playing for a roster spot. Good teams have more players who are playing in the preseason just to play games against another team to get ready for the season. Essentially bad teams have more players playing for something in the preseason while everyone has something to play for in the regular season

gk101991

Blues fans are now concerned being 3-0 so far this preseason.

TheLegendsClub

Didn’t the 0-16 lions team sweep the preseason?

AmeriCanadian98

0-16 Browns did too

Starbucks__Lovers

The 0-3 raiders also went 4-0 this preseason (HOF game included)

dudewithchronicpain

They did

BayouYote

The best part is the Coyotes then opened the season 0-10-1 lol. And didn’t get last…

Pteoughneigh

Theory: both of those teams would have had very few sure-fire NHLers, which means a lot of spots up for grabs and a lot of young/AHL guys playing their dicks off every preseason game to earn a spot. Whereas most competent teams would ice rosters with a lot of NHLers who are just going through the motions and not trying too hard

hockeycross

Hey Mikael Grigorenko was going to be a stud!

byzantinebobby

So we're winning the Cup in a few seasons?

KataiKi

\*Counts on fingers\* 2027 is our year, folks!!

Vivid_Walk_1405

Lol.

cup_of_coughy

Also, going 10-0 to start the season is not as cool as you’d hope it is

Islanderfan17

This is precisely why I don't put any stock in the preseason. I wait about 15 games into the regular season to begin panicking.

grooves12

Sharks 3-0 in preseason... Connor Bedard here we come!

CaptinDerpII

Coincidence? I think not

darkstar107

I wanna say that, in 2014 or 2015, Edmonton went undefeated as well. I was like "aw ya, this is the year". It definitely wasn't the year as we finished at or near the bottom.

ArtyThePoopie

another fun case is the Islanders’ 2017 preseason, in which they went undefeated in regulation and, once the season started, proceeded to play so fucking bad our best player peaced out at the end of the season

oddspellingofPhreid

Haven't looked into it, but I have a hunch that the absolute worst teams probably have the most guys playing their preseason hearts out for jobs.

charlie26c

Islanders losing their first two games can now give me hope.

BurtonBlaney3121

It feels like it was just 2017 where Colorado was the laughing stock of this sub. Kind of crazy how they just won the cup and have a stacked roster now. Wonder which of the current crop of bottom teams will win the cup in 2027.
