Look at GluBoost Fill 'N Finish. It's a CA glue made specifically for stuff like this. Use it properly and no one will ever know there a chip there.

I wouldn’t try this. Black Sharpie doesn’t really dry black. It has a purplish hue to it when dry. I worked in a factory assembling synthesizers and minor repairs (scratches mostly) were an everyday experience. Trust me on this. I agree with the top comment. Leave it alone. You will probably make it look even worse trying to fix it yourself.
When I got my Schecter E1 special edition, about 1400 bucks, I was taking pictures of it when I dropped my phone on it putting a dent on the body right above the low E. Never even played it before denting it. But you know what, still plays like a dream. And I know for a fact that EVH will definitely still do its job. I mean heck, look what Eddie played lol I would like to see a whole pic of that beautiful guitar also! Big fan
Id be so pissed if that happened but yeah at the end of the day it still plays the same. Yeah I love Eddie too he inspired me to start in the first place and he really did beat up his guitar I don't even know how he damaged the back of the frankenstrat that bad. Ill dm you a picture.
i think ill try going to a hobby shop that has a bunch of those paints and see if theres any that match, if not ill just leave it. thanks for the advice and jokes 👍
Tape it off real good around the chip and maybe try to rattle can it. A couple coats could even the chip. I had a chip in a white axe and used an appliance scratch and chip paint that matched and filled the chip, maybe they make black? Just commenting to commiserate bc i put black tuners on my bass tried them out, took it off and the ceiling fan ninja'd tf out of my new tuners.
the reality is, you wont fix it to the point of zero blemish. so your choices are: make it look like there’s been a repair done with offset coloring/glue/cracking or leave it and embrace the character. Im all for a little character in a guitar. you’re lucky it doesn’t affect playability. Play it even more 🤘
Duct tape! It's "the force" it has a light side a dark side and holds the universe together! Lol jk um I'd leave it. I don't think I have a single guitar WITHOUT a ding somewhere, I have a lot of V's so yeah lots of dings!!
I'd use testors model paint. You could use wood filler first on the chip then paint the front part black. If you want perfection use a paint set to color match the wood as well as the black finish. You can blend using 2000 grit sandpaper and scratch-x after paint drys just like car body work.
It's not yours until you scratch it!
You could put a bit of touch up paint on the black, but beware that not all blacks are the same color. Just get it close so it wont stand out so much. You could also build out the natual wood part of the chip with some wood filler. Just be aware that a botched job will look worse than it does right now.
Seriously, I might darken the light colored exposed wood some to make it less noticeable. If you fill the dent , the challenge is touching up the paint on the repaired part and having it transition seamlessly into the matte finish on the rest of the headstock. Your guitar it a tool not a museum piece.
Obviously, this guitar is no longer playable and there is no possibility of repairing it.
You should simply give it to me and I guarantee that it will be disposed of correctly.
The only issue is do you need to seal it so the paint edges don’t continue to flake or chip…. That will happen over time if you leave it.
I had my main guitar hit a flat surface and lost some paint…. I’ve yet to seal it even though the finish is extremely expensive and one of a kind… after 30+ years I’m most likely going to let the paint chips flake as they may…. Or not…. Still undecided.
Sharpie. Fuggit.
Logic: Are you gonna ever ACTUALLY sell it? Nah.
It’s yours for its lifespan. Let it pierce it’s ears, and get tattoos. That’s YOUR gear.
I wouldn't bother fixing it. It doesn't impact play or the actual guitar and isn't on a seam or a joint. Keep it as a battle wound.
Remember, Guitars with scars are cool. Willie would agree.
If no wood was removed, you may get it to swell back out with steam using a wet rag and an iron. Youtube has vids on this. It’s a common woodworking technique, but be careful. Then when dry you may be able to add paint where the chip is, I’d check youtube for tips, maybe Dan Erlewine has a vid on how to fix chipped paint. Or take it to a good luthier and they can fix it.
Ngl I looked at this for a solid minute wondering how a ceiling fan took that much of the headstock off. Then I noticed the Chip you were talking about
Acceptance is the first part of healing process
leave it… gives it character
"Just because you ARE a character doesn't mean that you HAVE character!"
How many characters?
10,000 characters max according to Reddit
I just now saw this but you took the words right out of my mouth. If it doesn't affect how you play, just leave it.
no piece to put back you say well then get used to it and play the crap out of it
Yeah! Play it till the rest of it looks like that!
Dip it in some salsa. That's what I do with my chips.
NGD
i wish

^this
I accept all dings and dents on my ax. I've done the same thing. It's now unique to l others . Keep shredding
yeah its just kinda annoying its a new guitar and it was expensive

Just leave it
Chicks dig scars on faces and guitars
Black sharpie
Does that guitar have three low E strings ?
no
i think ill try going to a hobby shop that has a bunch of those paints and see if theres any that match, if not ill just leave it. thanks for the advice and jokes 👍
You might not find an exact match but if you get some matte black paint it should be good enough to hide this unless you’re up close

who cares
Do you have the piece/chip? Or at least some of it
nope
Just leave it then. You'll probably make more of a mess trying to fix it
it didnt really remove wood it kind of just scraped paint off
I'd still leave it
alright
Black nail varnish?
maybe but the paint is matte and normally varnish is glossy
You could use the Nail Varnish and then buff out the shine with some #0000 Steel wool.
I’m sure you can find matte nail polish online

after you put your clothes away
haha yeah i think ill just leave it
That is the neatest tuning pegs I’ve seen today
A good luthier can make it perfect…NC Guitar Works in Charlotte NC…

I have the same exact guitar lol
Nailpolish
It looks like the headstock is flat black? Get a can of flat black paint, a small brush, and touch it up.
Take some shaving cream and then

Shit happens, You F\*ck'd up. Get some black nail polish & touch it up. It'll all be ok.
Hand it to a guitar shop. That's what I did.
Fingernail polish, super glue and baking soda, masking tape 120 grit sandpaper , and patience.
Its ruined. Throw it in the garbage bin.
Nail polish wont last. Use black auto paint touch up kit. Or buy a can of quality spray paint to match. Spray some in a cup. Use a small paint brush
Dowel rod should do it
My dumb ass thought that you are talking about the big cut-in thing that every evh Wolfgang has
Realistically, you just leave it.
Whoo, you got an EVH relic model!!! You must've paid a fortune for that.
It's not yours until you scratch it! You could put a bit of touch up paint on the black, but beware that not all blacks are the same color. Just get it close so it wont stand out so much. Sharpie
I’ve fixed small chips like this with black nail polish.
Woodfiller, sharpie
Bit of black satin nail polish to take your eye off it, about all you can do.
Black sharpie
Sharpie that bad boy! Lol
Sharpie. Fuggit. Logic: Are you gonna ever ACTUALLY sell it? Nah. It’s yours for its lifespan. Let it pierce it’s ears, and get tattoos. That’s YOUR gear.
Black nail polish
Battlescar

Yeah. Get the Special instead. Lol just kidding. It’s just the first of many dings you’ll attain after a while. Looks cool
Just leave it. Give your guitar character. There will Be many more chips and dings if you use it.

Keep playing and forget about it imo
It can be kinda fixed but then it looks kinda fixed! It's not like you're planning on selling it, right? Forget it it and just enjoy it. It happens..😉
I'd go with Old Guitar Player's post. Looks sound to me.
It looks like a screaming demon now. Just leave it. And don’t make that mistake again.
Look at the ding then look at a picture of the OG Frankenstrat then ask yourself what Eddie would do. I’d imagine it’d involve an epic guitar solo.
