Settle my debate please

lurkingFatty

You're right they're wrong. Next question.

thefaceless1395

Thank you! I kept trying to tell him that but he refuses to believe me. Says it’s the same rule as a bunker

barkeep9

If your buddy wants to play the same rules as the bunker, tell him he gets a penalty when he grounds his putter on the green.

BrokeHedgeManager

How the fuck do you putt a ball that has broke the surface. Need new friend

40yearOldMillennial

Wow! I had no idea this was a rule change. I usually play with people who will say "wet ground rules" and it's allowed, but I didn't know it was allowed for tournament play. https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/rules-modernization/major-changes/relief-for-an-embedded-ball.html

Ok_Lengthiness_8163

So you could do it anywhere? Not just on the green?

Cychosz

Yeah anywhere EXCEPT sand…..

JoeyRedcorn

Your buddy is not so smart; at least when it comes to the rules of golf.

majorkong17

As long as you’re on the putting surface you can mark and lift your ball. Has your playing partner never scene a round of televised golf??

thefaceless1395

He’s been playing for a couple years now. I think he’s more upset at the fact that I was winning

GreenWaveGolfer

Even if you're not on the green you get relief from an embedded ball anywhere in the general area (not in a penalty area or sand).

Ok_Refrigerator1868

Even if you weren't on the green you get to pick up embedded balls.

OrangeZebraStripe

wheres the Staples easy button?

thefaceless1395

![gif](giphy|Rl9Yqavfj2Ula|downsized)

TermiteLife

It’s ok to pickup on green

labontej

Rule 16.3, you’re right he’s wrong

BlazinINaHazin

Tell him to relax. Dang. I'd find a new golfing buddy if mine was like that. Fix the green and sink the put from the same distance.

thefaceless1395

Honestly I’ve never had an issue with him before but he’s always won on the holes we put money on. It’s time to just stop betting with him I think

BlazinINaHazin

Sometimes it's easier that way. Just salty he didn't win for once it seems.

bigheadgolf

Your friend is an idiot.

thefaceless1395

Agreed

Splines_articulated

I downloaded the USGA rules of golf app onto my phone. It is super easy to navigate and gives abbreviated and video explanation of simple rules like this. It comes in handy on the course when dealing with ppl like your friend.

thefaceless1395

Never knew this was a thing. Going to download this now

jlbrooklyn

Did he expect you to take a huge divot on the green and gouge it out

QuickDrawDinoHunter

"Howd you hit to today?" "Well, I struck it well. Except for that pesky chilly dipper I hit on the third green for birdie. Really had to get steep with it."

Nine_Eye_Ron

How did they expect you to play it? You still probably have to lift and place to play it anyway. Which you can do for free for embedded balls anywhere that isn’t a bunker (inc waste areas) and penalty areas.

fuqxyu

Your buddy must be fuming right now seeing everyone in here calling him an idiot.

thefaceless1395

I’m sending him screenshots from the bar while he’s at home lol

fuqxyu

Do share with us how the next round goes 😂

thefaceless1395

Might not be for a while😂😂

viacavour

Screenshot that he’s a punk ass bitch 😂

GreenWaveGolfer

He's an idiot. You can lift, clean, and place an embedded ball anywhere outside of a penalty area or bunker. It's not a debate, there's an objective right and wrong and you can tell him to look up the embedded ball rule, but also just common knowledge that you've long been able to mark and clean your ball on the green and repair pitch marks even without the modern embedded ball rule.

QuickDrawDinoHunter

Lift clean and drop off the green. Unless you're playing Lift Clean and Place in the fairways due to damage.

GreenWaveGolfer

True, it is a drop off the green. But the point is you get relief from it pretty much anywhere.

Pidgeon-Master

You’re right. You are able lift a ball out of its pitch mark as long as you are not in hazard

Live_Note

You shouldn’t be playing for money with people like your idiot friend who doesn’t know simple golf rules.

ThisBeJP

If your friend doesn’t know that rule I can’t imagine all the other rules he doesn’t know

GolfSicko417

You are right your friend is wrong

throwaway3921218

1) It’s a ball mark, not a divot. A divot is the chunk of grass you take with your iron/wedge from the rough/fairway. 2) You’re right. Your friend needs to brush up on the rules.

thefaceless1395

My brain don’t work so good sometimes lol I couldn’t think of what it was called when I made the post so thank you

throwaway3921218

All good. Also can be called a pitch mark.

YSApodcast

As long as you marked it. Left that out of your explanation but I’m guessing your buddy is either bitter or a moron.

Kend0lf

Free money for you op

QuickDrawDinoHunter

Ball is on the green, of course you can lift it and clean it. You can also fix any impurities on the green as well.

o8di

You are correct

QuietSolo

Show me in the rules where I can’t. I’m not playing silly games on the course. If I know I can I’ll let him spend his calories trying to find it. Meanwhile, I’m already in his head. Win/win.

harepy62

Some friend...and ignorant to boot.

bellingman

Stop playing with this dude--at least not for money. Sounds like an asshole, moron, or both.

Lonelyfriend0569

johnycashout

This is reddit. I think you are looking for google

gr8snd

Your friends a dipshit. Mark and clean are in the rule book.
