18. Way too many. It’s like when I go on vacation. 3 day trip, bring 4 days of underwear just in case and 3 more in case I shit myself every day while there.
Same boat here. 6 balls, 2 gloves, a small amount of tees, club wrench and a divot tool. With a 2000 era Ping Hoofer 2 bag, I'm already carrying around 26 pounds with the above and my clubs. Thats plenty of weight for me to lug around a course. Anything more is assanine.
I like to think I'd quit a round by the time I got to double digit lost balls but who knows. I've continued after back to back triples so anything is possible.
I have a similar mindset, usually a dozen balls just because I’m lazy and put the whole box in until I’m out, but then usually like 3-4 found balls. But I suck so my found balls are “I’m playing well today, I’ll use the tpx I found the other day”
Before or after a round?
Typically, I have like 15 balls. I’ve got a bag of balls to practice putting, two sleeves of new balls, a couple bright colored balls, and a coupe water hazard balls.
Finished my last round with 20 after losing about 6 balls. Had a bit of time to wait around and look for balls
Obviously I suck so I need quite a few extra balls.
Typically 6-9 new, then a Ziplock bag of another 10 balls that I have found as I play (and may pull out in an emergency or at a second attempt to clear a water hazard).
Way too many, always have anxiety about running out. Only lose like 2 balls per round, but probably have 30 or 40. I guess I have enough for my whole group and any other person I meet in other groups……
I typically carry 25-35 between two pockets. Too pocket has the nice balls I’ve found or bought. The lower pocket has balls I’ll start playing if my round is shit and I’ve been donating to the golf gods. Also carry extra in case one of my degenerate friends who rarely play come unprepared
I played today, so right now there are 5 less than I started with.
I usually have at least 12. I’ll start a round with a new sleeve and then if I lose those, I’ll use any that survived any previous rounds. Sometimes I’ll play a round with various balls that I’ve found.
I put balls in 2 pouches.
The side pouch generally has 2 boxes or between 24-30 balls.
The front pouch starts the year with 1. That is my bright yellow provisional ball. As the year progresses I'll pick up lost balls that are interesting to me and put them in the pouch. I'll put them into play randomly as I lose other balls.
Balls I find that aren't interesting I just leave on the next tee box.
I bring 2 sleeves when I play, but there’s a bunch of balls I’ve picked up or retired in that same pocket. I’ll donate these to the range at times that I don’t want to buy a bucket before a round
6 balls but it seems like I always leave with more than I came with. I’m a walker so I’m often taking a more direct line through the grass and balls are all over the place. Hell, I’ll find several just walking my dog on the course. We’ll walk around 5 AM and once I found 3 brand new balls just sitting on one of the greens and then random balls in the fairways here and there.
As many as I can fit. Anywhere 5-7 sleeves. Home course I play on is very narrow fairways with trees everywhere. Impossible to play a round and not lose at least 5 golf balls
Too many! Probably close to 20 if I can. Decided to drop some money and get nicer balls for the last game of the season last fall. Dumbest decision ever, not only did I slice a bunch into the water, the leaves made it almost impossible to find the ones I did hit straight.
This will be my second year of playing once summer rolls around (eastern Canada) I’d say I carry 25 because I’m god awful. Hoping to get the confidence (and just overall ability) to cut that down to around 12-15 this year.
12-15.. I’ve run out of golf balls on the course before and got mercilessly ridiculed by my buddies.. I’ll never make that mistake again. If I run out of 15 balls, I will ridicule myself
Dozen for me. But depends on the course. Sometimes I only take 6. Haven’t lost a ball in three rounds so due to lose 10 at least the next round. 13 handicap.
6 to 9 good new balls. I like ProV or Calloway Soft. Maybe the same amount of been played but still good. And a couple of throwaways or ones found while playing. When I first started playing 20 years ago I bought inexpensive balls at Walmart because they would soon be lost in the brush out of bounds. Now I may loose only a couple a round.
No less than 20. I like to be able to take a bucket to do chipping practice and 20 is the magic number
But I keep my best 4 balls in the top pouch with tees.
Usually I add a small hand full before a round, bought 7 dozen vice refurbs, but I always have a good amount of found balls just because I’d rather have a few extra than run out.
About 6-8. One new sleeve to start the round and then 3-5 balls that have been taken out of rotation. If I lose a new ball I’ll finish with a recycled ball.
Depends on if I'm traveling or not. At my home club I usually keep fresh boxes in my locker and keep a fresh sleeve in the bag + whatever 'loose change' is hanging out in the bag--Prov1 pickups and scuffed balls. I know I'll get through a round so \~6-10 maybe?
On the road I'll have a sleeve or two ready but if I'm running low will throw a fresh box in the side pocket so maybe 12-18 total.
Usually pushing or riding, not many straight carry rounds (and away games are in FL, hot), so an extra few balls is fine.
18. Way too many. It’s like when I go on vacation. 3 day trip, bring 4 days of underwear just in case and 3 more in case I shit myself every day while there.
I laughed too hard at this.
this is the way
I feel your pain brother lol
Same but in my example, I shit myself every day
Thing is, if you didn’t pack them - you’d definitely get a norovirus. And lose 2 balls a hole.
12-20
Im more of a 13-21 balls kinda guy honestly.
I never keep more than 11-19.
Pussy!
This is the answer
Mostly this, but I also have my wife pull balls out of the water and we get a little collection going after our rounds
40-50 basically any area that can hold something is holding golf balls lol
You pull up to the course with only 8 clubs and the other slots in your bag just have balls in them lol
Just ball retriever tubes filled with golf balls in the other 6 dividers
>ball retriever tubes filled with ~~golf balls~~ beers
6 but mostly because I carry and balls get heavy!

Exactly. I carry my bag and don't need a lot of dead weight. And I only have 12 clubs, typically.
Yeah! I swear a sleeve of balls weighs 3x as much if you put it inside your golf bag. I can’t imagine more than 6-7 balls.
I like to keep somewhere between 8-12. Some days I use one, some days I have already lost two on the first tee box Edit: words are hard sometimes
I lost one chipping before my round a few weeks ago. Brand new, straight out of the box. Went on to shoot a PR and win the members comp.
I strive to live somewhere I can play a members comp in March.
To be fair it’s our summer, but winter is a quarter zip til the fourth hole until you’re warmed up.
Maybe the best golf story I’ve ever heard
That one time I lost all 12 made me store 18+ forevermore
I pray I do not feel that pain one day, although I tend to feel it is inevitable
I like to think I'd quit a round by the time I got to double digit lost balls but who knows. I've continued after back to back triples so anything is possible.
Anywhere from 6 to 12. If I have 12 I might lose 1. If I have 6 I'll lose 4 or 5.
Exactly that peace of mind makes a huge difference.
6 of my normal balls and 3 balls I found somewhere. The found balls are used when I’m “going for it” when I know I shouldn’t.
Glad to know this method is common. Satisfying when I find a pro v in the woods and can throw out one of the other rejects into the kiddos bucket.
I have a similar mindset, usually a dozen balls just because I’m lazy and put the whole box in until I’m out, but then usually like 3-4 found balls. But I suck so my found balls are “I’m playing well today, I’ll use the tpx I found the other day”

20 or more. Working on not losing an entire box of kirklands each round
4. One in pocket and a fresh sleeve.
I too only have time for 3 holes before work.
An arsenal, anytime I acquire a ball it goes in the big front pocket.
6, two sleeves.
I have a dozen good balls, and probably like 50 old useless balls taking up space.
Only correct answer
Do you walk/push or ride in a cart? 50 extra balls must weigh a ton if the former.
I ride, my local course has some long distances between a few holes so not really able to walk
48, I am a high swing speed high handicap with the shanksys
Typically 6-9 new, then a Ziplock bag of another 10 balls that I have found as I play (and may pull out in an emergency or at a second attempt to clear a water hazard).
Have you tried vacuum sealing your balls?
I tried, but it *really* hurt.
Haha I Ziploc my balls by brand as well. I take 2 bags of 6 with me and tryout one type for the front 9 and another for the back.
I got 52 in my bag right now
Way too many, always have anxiety about running out. Only lose like 2 balls per round, but probably have 30 or 40. I guess I have enough for my whole group and any other person I meet in other groups……
6-12.
A dozen, and if it’s around there next round I keep going. Probably only replenish once I’m around 6 or less.
Before the round: 30 After the round: -6
6-7. Hate the weight.
Born with 2. Still got ‘em!
Found the guy who consistently says “that’s one” and then laughs like a drunken hyena when you tap the ball off the tee.
Dads gotta dad
10-12ish
Always bring 10 for a round, bad as I am I’ve never got close to losing 10 balls I just like a nice round number & have no self belief
Too many, I get them from work and always have sleeves to give away. I guess at least 48 at any given time, + another 10 or so in private stash.
Will send my address thanks!
I start with 9 the amount I come back with cab vary greatly
40 to 50
As long as I get to the course with 2 balls and leave with 2 balls, consider it a good day.
12 Vices and 10 sorry found balls.
Used to have like 15 just in case I lost a few during a round. I've practiced a lot this past year so now I only carry 25.
About three fiddy
No more than 12, no less than 4.
I played today, so right now there are 5 less than I started with. I usually have at least 12. I’ll start a round with a new sleeve and then if I lose those, I’ll use any that survived any previous rounds. Sometimes I’ll play a round with various balls that I’ve found.
3
12-24
Picked up about 30-40 the last 2 times out so currently around 60 in my bag.
6-12… 6 good ones and 6 whatever I find on the course for water holes. I lose on average 2 a round.
3 - 6 preferred balls, and a handful of balls found throughout rounds. Depends on the day which I play. Probably average 2 lost balls a round
Usually one sleeve and like 3-6 used balls for chipping practice.
At least 20 smh
Course I know we’ll and is pretty open, 6. Course I don’t know we’ll, 6 good ones and as many noodles as I can find.
Right now? None. Because I lost 7 in my last game
3 new ones and 8-12 randoms I find
Ok. I just finished counting….. I have lots at the start and way less at the end of a round
3
Same here…
2 in the sack, 6-8 in the bag.
70-80 just to be safe
420
Uh…2. That’s the way I was born.
1 /s
6
5
Usually about 20 give or take a few, always 2 sleeves of new ones for those tournaments you want to look good at.
12, cuz why not have some extras? It’s not the balls weighing down the bag
12
9
5 or 6.
I start off with at least two sleeves. But I’ll pick up any balls I find along the way…….just in case.
I keep between 2 and 3 sleeves in my bag, and after every round, the ball I used gets retired to the putting bag or shagg bag if it's got a scuff.
12 plus the shags.
I start with 9 the amount I come back with cab vary greatly
Probably 6
I put balls in 2 pouches. The side pouch generally has 2 boxes or between 24-30 balls. The front pouch starts the year with 1. That is my bright yellow provisional ball. As the year progresses I'll pick up lost balls that are interesting to me and put them in the pouch. I'll put them into play randomly as I lose other balls. Balls I find that aren't interesting I just leave on the next tee box.
Enough to lose 4 per hole. Not sure why, I don’t lose many balls but I just like to always have my bag full of those used balls
6
Usually around 12 - 15. I put a box in there and find others
6 balls for courses and 10 balls that I practice my short game with.
6-10
I lost 18 balls on my worst golf day ever. So 20
All of them.
9 ones in good condition from previous and one fresh sleeve.
15 to start and usually end up with 25. Lots of woods.
I keep 12 in the bag and 3 boxes at the house
3 new balls, 3 semi used balls
2 sleeves of 3
About 8-10 good balls, 8-10 crap balls for questionable hazards or blinds off the tee box. So maybe 20 tops.
I bring 2 sleeves when I play, but there’s a bunch of balls I’ve picked up or retired in that same pocket. I’ll donate these to the range at times that I don’t want to buy a bucket before a round
One less than I did on the last hole.
Usually a dozen for 18, half a dozen for 9.
8-12 good ones and 10-15 I've accumulated from the woods
I bring 3 dozen. I usually lose 10-15 balls a round
3
9 to 12
8-10
6 unless I don’t know the course. I carry so I keep it light
6-10.
10 balls
Two. Very impressive anyone has more.
6
I was born with 2. Not sure how you guys are putting more in the bag.
6
Not enough
Usually 2 new sleeves, a couple fresh balls for the round, and a handful of crappy balls I find to mess around with
3
Depends on the course. Tight / lots of hazards / thick trees? 8-10. Open, sparse trees, not a lot of water, 3-5. I walk and carry.
Somewhere around the 25 i bring and then another 15 i take from the fairways. /S just in case I caused some people to bring out their pitchforks
4
Like 4
6 balls but it seems like I always leave with more than I came with. I’m a walker so I’m often taking a more direct line through the grass and balls are all over the place. As many as I can fit. Anywhere 5-7 sleeves. Home course I play on is very narrow fairways with trees everywhere. Impossible to play a round and not lose at least 5 golf balls
39
Little more than a dozen. I use 10 balls in my chipping and putting warm up
The lower the number, the more balls I lose. The higher the number the more likely I play the same ball all 18
I keep like 18. But now I’d be comfortable going out with 3 balls on 18. I rarely lose more than 1 ball
Usually 4 sleeves
4
Too many! Probably close to 20 if I can. Decided to drop some money and get nicer balls for the last game of the season last fall. Dumbest decision ever, not only did I slice a bunch into the water, the leaves made it almost impossible to find the ones I did hit straight.

6 ish of tourney clean balls and then 2-3 of every day gamers
Hundreds if not thousands
12-15.. I’ve run out of golf balls on the course before and got mercilessly ridiculed by my buddies.. I’ll never make that mistake again. If I run out of 15 balls, I will ridicule myself
A dozen
2….
Usually two sleeves and I’ll grab a third at the turn if absolutely nexessary
12 6x pro v 1s for comp rounds 6x random callaway balls for social or when I'm losing too many pro Vs in comp.
Who needs more than one ball a round? If you do, then you should probably stick to the range.
6-8
12
Dozen for me. But depends on the course. Sometimes I only take 6. Haven’t lost a ball in three rounds so due to lose 10 at least the next round. 13 handicap.
6. I can go a few rounds with the same ball but like to always hold 6 balls in my bag, typically the 1 and 3 number balls.
At least 15-20. It’s overkill, but I don’t want to have a single thought about not having enough balls
6
Before or after the round? Makes a big difference
More than 1, but less than 50.
Just two mate
35 because and that is usually for the front 9, then I go to my car and get 35 more for the back 9.
Takes a lot of balls to play like me
3-6
6 or 7
No more than 6, no less than 3. I normally keep 6 in my bag.
I usually keep 2 dozen in my bag usually 1 dozen white and 1 dozen yellow. That way I can play whatever golf ball I can see well when I’m playing.
I always have 10 to shag balls incase I get to course with that kind if warm up area. Then probably a dozen balls I use.
New? Only a sleeve, found 2-3 dozen
Two sleeves so 6 balls
3 good ones, 6-10 bad ones
21
No less than 20. I like to be able to take a bucket to do chipping practice and 20 is the magic number But I keep my best 4 balls in the top pouch with tees.
All of them..
There’s a pocket for 10-15 good balls I use first and probably bought, and then a pocket for 20+ shit balls I found in the woods in case of emergency
Less than I have in the water
Depends on what part of the round. The start 12-24. Good day at the end 30. Not a good day 3
24 minimum....no I don't know my handicap....and yes, you waited for me to pee in those woods too
Usually I add a small hand full before a round, bought 7 dozen vice refurbs, but I always have a good amount of found balls just because I’d rather have a few extra than run out.
Probably 20, if I didn't slice the ball I would never lose any. I don't hit it far enough lose them lmao
6-12
With a cart bag 12-18 , when walking about 6-12
About 12-15 that I play with, but I got a shag pocket with about 2 dozen where I just keep balls I find for extra shots on the range or something
2. Had em both for 35 years and counting…
12 with like 20 that I can lose in water or hit and not get it back.
4-6 bc I know I’ll find 4-6 more to finish out my round.
At the beginning of a round, or at the end?
About 6-8. One new sleeve to start the round and then 3-5 balls that have been taken out of rotation. If I lose a new ball I’ll finish with a recycled ball.
At least 33-37
Depends on if I'm traveling or not. At my home club I usually keep fresh boxes in my locker and keep a fresh sleeve in the bag + whatever 'loose change' is hanging out in the bag--Prov1 pickups and scuffed balls. I know I'll get through a round so \~6-10 maybe? On the road I'll have a sleeve or two ready but if I'm running low will throw a fresh box in the side pocket so maybe 12-18 total. Usually pushing or riding, not many straight carry rounds (and away games are in FL, hot), so an extra few balls is fine.
A lot. Probably at least 8. I ran out once when playing with my dad. Won’t ever let that happen again.
