Theres a small fountain pen and ink selection at Kinokuniya in Mitsuwa in Arlington Heights too. However, visiting downtown to see Anderson's and Atlas Stationers is definitely more worth it!
Andersons is in the same building as Parmer House in the loop. Also, don't skip Atlas Stationers, also downtown - both are great and easily accessible.
This place looks fabulous! I'm flying to Chicago for a composition competition in July and am already scoping out the nearby pen shops just in case I win. I mean, I'll go either way. But if I win, I'll buy a celebration pen instead of a consolation pen.
Century Pens must have closed in like... 2018ish?After the shop closed, the man who ran the shop went to go work at Anderson's and then later joined Atlas Stationers. If I recall correctly, he said Century Pen's display cases and some of the old stock went to Atlas Stationers. What a wonderful man to talk to, I loved visiting him. I haven't seen him in a while (because of.. you know, the pandemic), so I'm hoping he's retired now. :)
Thanks for this, I started up (again) with Fountain pens in early 2019, and the it's been a blur with the pandemic. Sounds like a nice store.
Glad we have the other two stores left in Chicago, always visit if I have a chance.
Charles is still in the pen game, albeit working just a few days a week. The owner of Century, Ed, decided to retire when the pandemic hit. He is a wealth of knowledge about fountain pens for over 40 years of experience!
It's a very nice shop; Anderson's Chicago is great!
Goulet Pens gets a lot of love and accolades - deservedly so - because they're a top-notch retailer, but Anderson's will always be my pen store of choice.
If you're planning to visit, Atlas Stationers is definitely worth a look, ~~also check out a place called Greer's on Webster in Lake View~~ \- I love the funky vibe there and everyone is extraordinarily friendly and welcoming.
I live in the burbs, and work downtown. Ignorance is better for my wallet. I was not aware of either of these places. Sadly, I walk a short distance past Atlas Stationers and did not know it existed. Now I will have to stop in there after work. Hopefully, I will not spend too much.
My dude pretty sure those boxes on the left are all diamine. The first store in Appleton WI and their website definitely have the usual suspects and a few weird things like Kobe inks. Not the slickest website ever, but they used to give you 1 more ml of sample ink than Goulet. This might still be true.
I can personally confirm that they have Diamine inks . They do not have noodler's in this specific store, but they do online. Other inks in store are Jacques Herbin, pelikan, sailor, private reserve ink, and a few more I can't remember. Overall I'd say reasonably priced.
Picked up a Faber Castello loom in a pretty gold colour and a pilot metropolitan too
That's the place in the Palmer House, isn't it?
Yes.
I love that place. My daughter and I have been there several times. It's awesome..
And no ink?? I pbb would've gotten at least a cartridge :))
While flying it's risky, could have picked a cartridge but don't fancy them much idk
I understand now, flying with bottles is...interesting, one doesn't know 100% the output
What!? I live in the Chicago suburbs I've been looking for a pen store for ages! Holy smokes please give the address to this place.

There's also Atlas Stationers! We now have 2 🥰 aren't we blessed 🙌🏾

Palmer House hotel. It’s a Hilton property. Kay’s Jeweller nearby.

Anderson Pens 17 E Monroe St, Chicago, IL 60603
Thanks, oh man can't wait for my day off. Gonna have a field day.
Thanks, I’m nearby and so exited!

Best of luck!
Thanks!
Check out atlas stationers outside the loop! Another nice store that's a bit more reasonably priced
I love Atlas Stationers. Got to go there when visiting, and I shop online with them.
Yea I went there too!
They've opened up the Chicago store again? Yay! Will have to stop by soon.
Were they ever closed? I just learned about this place.
There was some construction being done and they were temporarily closed.
Ohh cool
For a second I thought you were going to say your collection was getting out of control. That's a wonderful display.
Wow I'm jealous. Anderson's and Atlas stationers.
My favs in chicago !!
I love that place, *and* the Palmer House.
For reals it's a beautiful historic building
I'm finally gonna get to visit!!!! Omw to chicago rn 😄
Mhm! The only shame is how small the store is. I also reccomend atlas stationers!
If you are in Chicago loop check out Atlas Stationery. Family owned.
I'm just learning about this! I live super near and I live Atlas Stationers. Guess I'll have not one but two local pen stores!!!
I’ve bought from their online store- some of the J Herbin inks are cheaper than other stores. I enjoyed their podcasts too.
They have a podcast too? I know what I'm doing this weekend.
Waaa, man, it looks like a dreamplace! The Cross-es pens look so pretty, differrnt from all others
It's real nice would reccomend. Cross is not much my style tho.
Mine neither (they're so slim), but this model is very pretty
I want to go there someday. My brother lives in Chicago. I can’t go anywhere now because I’m my Mom’s caregiver.
Chicago used to have two other pen stores, Century Pens and Gilbertson Clyborn, but both closed. I was lucky to visit each before that happened.
Oh .. didn't know that. When did they close?

I read about atlas stationery online too. Must check it out !
Unfortunately Greer's is online only now but local orders can usually get curbside pickup.
I was unaware.. Thanks for this. Let's hope the closure is a temporary one; I really like Greer's and the people that work there.

Forget about walk in wardrobes... I'll have a ink and pen-drobe in a future home
How big is your collection? Mine is relatively small around 7.
About 40 pens and 60 inks give or take. Still nowhere enough to justify a dedicated pen room, but no harm in planning in advance :D
Woah that’s a lot
I have some pens from your second picture! Cross wanderlust collection Mt Everest. I have the fountain pen and roller, they look so good.
The marble finish is excellent
That seems like a wonderful place.
That so dope , wish there was one in so cal
There is Flax Pen to Paper which is probably the closest.
thats so fucking cool omg
What a beautiful store! Do you happen to know the brand name of those marbled pens that are closest to the camera in the second picture?
Looks like Cross.
They are Cross Wanderlust
Yep
Yay! They're finally open again. I bought a gift pen and a couple Pilot Varsitys there for myself. My first fountain pens.
How much are the varsitys for ?
Did they have any noodlers or Diamine ink? If not what else did they have? And was it reasonably priced?

All sorts of Lamy ink too. No Robert Oster inks. Great service, I always visit both of the pen stores downtown.
