During the Mercedes season memories video, Lewis said that the W13 was the most awful car he had in years. George was there staring like 'you ain't seen shit bro'
For the most part. He was disgusted by his 2009 McLaren, too, wasn't he? Now, yes, that year McLaren were 3rd in the Constructor's, but they also finished 100 points behind Brawn. Technically a top team, I guess, but probably not what most would think of.
But they turn it around before the the season break. That car was developed massivelly and Lewis got many poles and 2 victories. That 2009 Mclaren became a beast before Hungary.
True but just imagine being literally any other driver on the grid and hearing someone complain about having the 3rd best car and calling it undrivable meanwhile you are in literally any other car that isn’t a Ferrari or Red Bull that was on the grid this year or anything that wasn’t a Red Bull or brawn in 2009
Alonso got the 3rd fastest car to 2 title challenges. Tbf to Ferrari that car was so reliable, but Fernando did so well getting that car so close to a title.
Honestly this - and it's not like the risks weren't empty - you have people like Alonso WHO ARE known for making bad decisions but in reality it's just Hamilton-level risks that didn't pay off.
Very true, I’m not trying to diminish his career or his bravery in his choices, however we would be joking to say that he did not have one of the most lucky careers in F1 history by being a rookie on a top team and making a move to a team that would become the most dominant in F1 history so it’s a little funny hearing him complain about a car when so many other drivers on the grid have been driving actual tractors for most of their careers
He didn't luckily join McLaren as a rookie, he earned that position with his very dominant record before F1.
He also join a team that luckily became the most dominant team since 1996-2006 Ferrari, he helped make that team dominant.
Sure he was lucky, but he made that luck.
If I'm not mistaken he was also in a Merc powered car his entire junior career, starting with Manor where he won Formula Renault UK, and then in ART GP where he won F3 Masters (over his teammate Sutil, as well as Vettel in Mucke and Paul Di Resta at Manor), before winning GP with ART his rookie year over Piquet Jr and his good friend Timo Glock).
Hamilton is also noted to have visited an award show where Ron Dennis would be to directly introduce himself and tell him he wanted to drive a Mclaren, and 3 years later Dennis called him about being a Mclaren junior.
So yes, it always takes luck for a seat to be open, but Lewis did basically everything possible to ensure if that seat was open it would be his.
Also, people tend to downplay his move to Mercedes by saying things such as "It was already a well oiled machine thanks to Brawn" forgetting that after Brawn won and sold, the "Mercedes" team came in 4th in 2010, 4th in 2011, and 5th in 2012, whereas Mclaren was 2/2/3, beating Mercedes every single year, and even after joining Mercedes, Lewis ended the first year with them in 4th.
That's true. You could make the same arguments for Michael Jordan, who just so happened to land on a team that could acquire all the pieces he needed. However, in both cases it was the overwhelming talent of the athlete that created those opportunities in the first place. Hamilton bet it all on Mercedes, but Mercedes likewise bet it all on Hamilton.
For sure for sure, especially since McLaren didn’t have a junior team like Merc Red Bull and Ferrari do right now with Williams (kinda) AT and Alfa/sauber
Lol I don’t even think that he is one of the goats but we’d be playing if we said he didn’t have like consistently great teams unlike someone like Alonso who has mostly been on shit teams his whole career
I hear what you mean, and by no means am I one of those saltily saying "W13 was awful". But saying
>at one point in their career
Is really not high praise. I mean, I would love to drive last year's Haas at this point in *my* career.
Edit: shit I forgot about the livery. That's not gonna work for me. Stripped from livery, plain clothes.
Saying that every driver would want to drive the W13 at one point in their career is exceptionally high praise. 14 of the 18 drivers this year would’ve wanted to drive the W13 this season. Max I’m sure would’ve preferred it over the 2015 Torro Rosso and the 2017 Red Bull where he had 4 mechanical DNFs as well as being clearly the 3rd fastest car. Charles would’ve taken it over both the 2018 Sauber and the 2020 and probably 2021 Ferrari. Carlos would’ve taken it over ever single car in his career apart from this seasons Ferrari. Checo would’ve taken it over every car bar 2020,2021 and 2022. That’s pretty high praise for a car Lewis has branded the worst he has ever driven.
Not really. I don’t think any driver this season would’ve wanted the Williams. Same with the 2020 and 2021 Haas’. A lot of cars no one would ever want. A lot of cars some drivers would want. A select few cars that every single driver on the grid would take at one point in their careers.
I can see how he would say that very easily given the porpoising going on, especially with that Mercedes. I would be willing to bet that no TV pundits or previous F1 drivers would get in and drive an early version of the W13, or if their backs/necks would even survive.
well if you consider stomping everyone in junior categories at a much younger age so you‘re getting a contract by the team you signed with for 10 years as a kid because you were so clearly ahead of everyone else „lucky“, sure. Others would consider Max lucky to be given such a good chance at a much younger age, but most people would agree he earned it too.
And talking about „luck on track“ that‘s just simply not true. He lost like 3 titles by like a maximum of 8 points. Some due to unreliability, some due to Masi‘s decision (not calling it rigged, but unlucky for him) etc.. Considering not being involved in crashes, that‘s something where you‘re making your own luck. If you’re constantly on Pole and not involved in a lot of racing, you‘re bound to not be involved in a lot of crashes - see Max this year. Considering reliability, that‘s also where you make your own luck. When you‘re so fast and good at tyre management, you can drive more conservatively and with safer engine modes.
Also, considering half of the grid‘s parents are either billionares, multi millionares or heavily tied to F1, I think everyone‘s lucky to some degree, but all equally lucky and in such undetrimental ways that it should just be ignored.
Ok mate. Now cry elsewhere.
Bro had a race winning car 16 years in his career dominant car 5 years in his career, best car 10 years in his career.
If that's not lucky nothing else is.
To quote Toto Wolff: "If everyone could win a championship in a Mercedes, then why aren't they in a Mercedes?". Maybe he had those cars because he's consistently been one of the few drivers those teams wanted as No.1 in their cars. You don't get there by being a midfield driver.

He also refers to it as an ocean drive.
Given there's no ocean in the meme, and I don't have a head injury, I'm going to assume this isn't the exact picture he was referencing.
Or it's the same and memes can't be art can't be memes anymore..
Kinda new to F1, and I'm confused as to why people hate on George Russell. I haven't watched much content besides the races, so sorry if I've missed something big.
during the season i was kind a mad at russel, but now im just happy for the guy
hes fast, seems to handle "a trash car" just fine and i hope he has an even better season next year
i just hope he stops driving into people
During the Mercedes season memories video, Lewis said that the W13 was the most awful car he had in years. George was there staring like 'you ain't seen shit bro'
Literally every driver on the grid would’ve killed to have that W13 at one point in their career.
Except for Lewis since he has only been in top teams
For the most part. He was disgusted by his 2009 McLaren, too, wasn't he? Now, yes, that year McLaren were 3rd in the Constructor's, but they also finished 100 points behind Brawn. Technically a top team, I guess, but probably not what most would think of.

Maybe it was the porpoiseing? I remember it being a big issue early in the season.
Alonso having PTSD flashbacks.
Alonso got the 3rd fastest car to 2 title challenges. Tbf to Ferrari that car was so reliable, but Fernando did so well getting that car so close to a title.
It’s entirely possible it was a truly terrible car and it was only lewis and George’s talent keeping it out of the bottom half of the finishing order
[Lewis was moderately critical of the MP4-24](https://youtu.be/YZ7jmtAYBME)
McLewis was a whole different driver I swear lol
he learned his pr
Just a little
🙌🙌 How the hell did I miss this?
True, but that car wasn't also trying to break his back whilst being off the pace so he probably has fonder memories
Because he bet his career on Mercedes and it paid off.
Very true I am just saying he has been very lucky
Lucky that it paid off, but he took huge risks that other drivers wouldn’t.
Honestly this - and it's not like the risks weren't empty - you have people like Alonso WHO ARE known for making bad decisions but in reality it's just Hamilton-level risks that didn't pay off.

W13 was top team tier imo. Same as Ferrari. Red bull was just a bit better. And luckily the other teams are closing the gap as well
It was still a top team car. 17 podiums in a season is around what ferrari used to do 2015-2019. And its much better than redbull was doing 2014-2020.
Loois bad give me upvote
Lol I don’t even think that he is one of the goats but we’d be playing if we said he didn’t have like consistently great teams unlike someone like Alonso who has mostly been on shit teams his whole career

Not really. I don’t think any driver this season would’ve wanted the Williams. Same with the 2020 and 2021 Haas’. A lot of cars no one would ever want. A lot of cars some drivers would want. A select few cars that every single driver on the grid would take at one point in their careers.
Yep. You definitely still don't understand.
The W13 scored more podiums than 2014-2020 RB, just let that sink in
It scored more podiums than the 2014-2020 redbulls
Russell the shitbox whisperer
I can see how he would say that very easily given the porpoising going on, especially with that Mercedes. I would be willing to bet that no TV pundits or previous F1 drivers would get in and drive an early version of the W13, or if their backs/necks would even survive.
Lewis has no idea. The luckiest driver even in F1 history.

Facts can be hurtful.

wew lad, i ain't reading that wall of text
Bro why are you so triggered by Lewis?
[удалено]
As soon as the criticism is justified.
W13 scored more podiums than redbull did in any of the 2014-2020 seasons. He has no right to complain about that car. Hope it gets worse next year
Wow, this really struck me
Hit by the bus
Hit by the Russell
George Bussell
That bus just turned in to me
Blimey
Crikey
Beautiful, meaningful piece of art
I love it, the art
A beautiful piece if art that is
Truly a masterpiece crikey
Quite splendid indeed. When I set me peepers on it.. blimey
This art is the prettiest art, of all art.
The sheer level of artistry is enough to make an environmental activist throw soup on it
Wow! This is some really nice artwork!
Crikey.
Beautiful piece of artwork this is
Nice arte!
Nicely done, nicely done
This is why we need to look at the sunshine
George Russell the kind of guy to call a meme a beautiful piece of artwork
[Some context](https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/comments/z8lnsi/george_russell_the_meme_connoisseur_in_an/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for those who don't get it
I don't get it
It's just some nice artwork that George Russell really appreciates.
Scroll back on today's posts, there's a screenshot from an interview where George refers to this meme as "an artwork".
I see, thanks!
But it is artwork... Just because people have used it as a meme doesn't mean the actual art is.
Relax George
Never said it wasn't, but this image is almost certainly more well known as a meme rather than artwork.
You didn't explicitly say it wasn't, but boy did you imply it.
He called it a really nice artwork though...
He also refers to it as an ocean drive. Given there's no ocean in the meme, and I don't have a head injury, I'm going to assume this isn't the exact picture he was referencing. Or it's the same and memes can't be art can't be memes anymore..
Or more than likely is he is mis-remembering the image? Feel free to use your lack of a head injury to find the one he must have been referring to.
Why would I do that?

Wtf is that jaw line
💀
6.3/10 DCs.
Bro did the lightskin stare thinking he's a lightskin
Wow, I might have to use this piece of art and frame it. Beautiful piece indeed

Beautiful artwork
Kinda new to F1, and I'm confused as to why people hate on George Russell. I haven't watched much content besides the races, so sorry if I've missed something big.
[Context.](https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/comments/z8lnsi/george_russell_the_meme_connoisseur_in_an/) you've missed nothing big
Thanks for the help :)

This is so deep
What a beautiful painting!
Exquisite work of symbolism
The way he used a meme (especialy this one) in a interview confirms that he is AI
Crikey! This comment turned in on me.

He's won his race so hopefully he'll calm down.
So this means Toto and James Allison successfully misinterpreted the cost cap for 2023. 2021 2.0: Electric Boogaloo sign me up baby
Holy fuck did George actually say that and if so is the actual “painting”. I’m dead
during the season i was kind a mad at russel, but now im just happy for the guy hes fast, seems to handle "a trash car" just fine and i hope he has an even better season next year i just hope he stops driving into people
Is verstappen driving the bus?
Nah, it will just be Sainz and LeClerc at Ferrari next year.
