You’ll have to wonder if this is going to screw over Max’s chances tomorrow.
…it probably won’t, but it’s still a strange decision either way…
This is the 2nd worst track to qualify low.
So mild inconvinience
Light eye brow raiser
Like a Carlo Ancelotti slightly raising a brow during 80+ minutes of, say, 0-0 then Real Madrid scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes and winning the game
The power of 🤨
Super easy. Barely an inconvenience
wow wow wow wow wow wow........ wow
Horner: Max I'm gonna need you to get all the way off my back about this one.
*Super* easy. Barely an inconvenience!
Well well well well... ... ... ... well.
Wow wow wow wow...........
Aah, seeing random pitch meeting catch phrases is TIGHT!
I think you meant, "barely an inconvenience"...
For verstappen only
Perez will probably win if that shows to be a problem
I think he'll be given team orders to give way for Max .. by the end of Lap 1.
If Max goes from 8th to 3rd by the end of Lap 1 then those team orders will be completely understandable...
Or Perez causes chaos turn one and Verstappen strolls by casually taking first place.
That being said. No one has won at Singapore from the dirty side of the grid. Soooo. Who knows what happens.
Ver to start on mediums and run long into the race hoping for a SC?
Will there even be a dirty side tomorrow?
Weather predictions suggest that there'll only be damp sides come Sunday.
Perez from first will be asked to move over for max in seventh.
It’s scripted! They just want to make sure he gets the championship in Suzuka for Honda (/s)
Man could start in Malaysia and still win....
Apperantly Red Bull has an announcement to make in Japan.
Seems like a good way to ensure he doesn't win the championship in Singapore.
It's obvious they'll announce Latifi for next year and the sacking of Verstappen. It's been a long time coming.
I thought latifi was quiting because he didn’t want to keep dominating?
Yeah I know that's the consensus, but I still believe deep down he wants to go for that 10th title. A nice round number, you know?
Max showed incredible trust in his team there.
Listening and accepting an out of the blue wtf call to pit instead of taking a special pole position.
I’d like to think all drivers would do the same, the team has all the data and calls like that can be for health and safety reasons
In the past when we had refuelling there were drivers who literally ran out of fuel on track because they ignored a call to pit so that trust is not a given. I mean I wouldn’t blame the Ferrari drivers for ignoring the team. Heck if they got out and counted the tyres before leaving the pits you couldn’t blame them.
>Heck if they got out and counted the tyres before leaving the pits you couldn’t blame them.
GLOVES AND STEERING WHEEL! QUICK!
Oh you need those? Lol that was Kimi wasn’t it?
They DID give one the wrong set of tyres today...
I know! And they’d already given his teammate slicks when they put him on inters even though he’d been the one asking for slicks earlier!
If their pit stop traffic light system had been fit for purpose Massa would have been world champion. I still haven’t forgiven them for that lol and it was 14 years ago. I’m past getting mad at them now. I just roll my eyes.
Wasn't it a race earlier this year where the team told Sainz to back off and he was like "wtf no" and completely ignored them?
i do think that but the Ferrari drivers especially Sainz usually calls out and argues with his engineer's
I think we’d all agree the Ferrari boys have good reason to clap back
That's because Ferrari runs their strategy off a Twitch poll.
yeah Definatly...they were asking the drivers strategies mid race last time i dont know if it is good or bad but i wuld like to see if they keeping it up this week
Leclerc was assertive today too, I'm getting hope for Ferrari again. It's scary
In before double DNF tomorrow
Definitely. The car looks good and the drivers perform well. The team must fuck up to ensure balance
I think sainz might not, but can't really blame him
Too much inventing
Two laps. It seemed he was on provisional pole pace the prior lap. Might not have held up, but that last lap for sure. I’m watching a recording a couple hours later so maybe news has come out since.
Lack of fuel or car issue then?
Edit: Confirmed to be lack of fuel
This is something Ferrari would do.
Nah, Ferrari would not tell him to box. Instead they would let him finish, then run out of fuel and start at the back of the grid instead of p8.
You had me chuckling coz it rings so true 😂
Ferrari will ask him to stop in the middle of the track and confirm the fuel level himself.
Do you have enough fuel? Question.
"I am checking" - Leclerc with the dip stick
Take the cap off and use a lighter to look down the pipe - Ferrari pit wall
So that's what happened to Sainz in Austria.
*Sorry, it’s a mistake*
Massive fuck up from RB
They gave him exactly the fuel he needed to qualify with the previous lap. He began his last lap with seconds to spare so there really was no good reason for the strategists at the box to expect that second lap to take place, it was the smarter strategic move to not overfuel and have the lightest possible car for the laps they knew would happen, rather than hauling around an extra lap of fuel just in case they needed it.
whyd he back out of the previous fast lap?
To save battery and manage temperatures for the last lap, which makes sense given the track evolution and some fast cars behind him still. If he had enough fuel, it would have been a very smart move strategically to save his fast lap until the last lap.
But he didn't have enough fuel, it's hard to understand how the decision to abort that second to last lap to go for that final lap happened.
Probably miscommunication or miscalculation, mistakes happen
This is wrong - RB told him he had enough for two push laps, and then told him to abort the first of the two.
It’s F1 on a track with changing conditions, the projections from one lap to another can change.
Likely the strategy team saw in the last second this change… fuel consumption is affected by slippery conditions.
But then their communication sucked
Not enough money, clearly.
Can‘t blame them with these gas prices atm
The cost cap thing really is getting to them, isn't it.
here prices went kind of back to normal
They been dropping here too but still wanted to make the joke :(
They've gone up in Aus again, you're good.
Act broke to stay rich
Gotta stick to the budget somehow.
Absolutely lack of fuel
Still, he shouldn't have aborted his previous lap
Sky Italy saying he aborted the previous one to make sure he had enough battery for the final lap.
Basically rb went all in and miscalculated the fuel
Wow rare error from RB’s pit wall
Helmut Marko said on ORF that they aborted because they run close to gasly
Yeah, Erik van Haren [just said](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/xswb01/erik_van_haren_red_bull_decided_to_let_verstappen/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) Max told the team he had enough battery for 2 push laps
If they were purple through s2 why not go all out for that current lap?
That's exactly what nobody fully understands, apparently Marko said Max was too close to Gasly so he had to back off for a good final run
GP told him to abort that one too so he’d be the last on a push lap and to push on that last lap… which would have worked out nicely if they’d had enough fuel. But they’ve confirmed now that they wouldn’t have had enough for a fuel sample
This. Previous lap would at least have given him P2. Now he’s P8…
Rookie shit from RB pit wall
First the Perez thing in Q3 now this
Are we sure he would have got P2? He was sliding a lot on that last sector.
Better than 8th.
I think so. He was almost one second ahead and it didn’t look like he had lost that much.
He was also 0.8 up. He had time to spare.
He got P2 earlier in the session with multiple slides as well. The RB is very fast here, evident by Perez almost getting pole. I wouldn't be surprised if Max gets at least a podium tomorrow due to how fast they are
Seems like fuel issue. Would have gotten DQ if that's the case. Better to start 8th than back of the grid I guess.
Just feels so bad though, he had a pole position lap both times and were just aborted
Makes for a great race though. Will be interesting.
Fuel more likely. Ironic, he'd probably have pole if he finished the previous lap...
RBR pulled a Ferrari today
Extremely rare mistake by Red Bull. It happens, they have been on it all season so it doesn't really matter
Likely, dont see why else they would've aborted last second
Most likely lack of fuel due to the extra lap taken at the end.
Verstappen and his engineer to Ferrari confirmed.
Imagine the response if this was Chuck and Ferrari.
The thing is, Red Bull doesn’t have issues often, so they’re forgivable when they do. Ferrari does and doesn’t learn from it, so they get beat up on.
If he avoided being too low on fuel and getting sent to back of grid, then it was a brilliant call.
I guess they put too little fuel in.
Maybe should have told him that before he aborted the first lap if that is indeed the reason.
Yeah this is a double fuckup by RB. Absolutely stupid.
RB: Mom said its our turn to fuck up this time
At least its not during the race
First major RB fuck up this year I think, not too bad
True, in the end it does not matter. But I want to see them fight up front.
don't worry you'll still see that in about 10 laps max haha
In fairness, not pitting at all during Q3 is unusual
Yea I feel like this should be something that is communicated at least a lap before so he can either fuel save for the last lap or send it
Sad thing is, he had like a second on Leclerc's time. He would've smashed the pole
They absolutely should have. He was coming up to traffic at the end of that lap and obviously backed off to make sure he got a clean lap in at the very end. They should definitely have told him that would be his last lap
Two pole laps aborted….
Seems like RBR will do anything to be champions in Japan…
And then announce RB S2 Honda again? 🤣
Feed it to me! I love Honda
you know what, if Max doesn't win tomorrow and it looks like he could have, you might be on to something
Max yelling "What the fuck" repeatedly as GP is like "Err, will tell you later" lmao
This was Ferrari level comedy
I can't get over how much GP sounds like Horner. Every time I hear him over the radio I have to remind myself it's not Horner.
Honestly thought it was Horner for about two years until recently..
I differentiate between them by tenor. Do they sound like a calm older brother talking to a fiesty teenager or a father who's talking to the son he never had?
You're DEAD ON with that one 🤣
"What the fuck?"
"We are checking"
"What the fuck, question?"
Might've worked better for him.
They just want to give Max a challenge tomorrow so he doesnt get bored
Fair enough I guess. 7 positions is not too bad to get through right? We’ve seen what he is capable of 2 times already. And seen his time up in s1 and 2 I think heel be flying again
Singapore is a very different beast for passing.
The same was said about Hungary but the results speak for itself
Yeah and depending on what the weathers like tomorrow, could be interesting with strategy
It should provide a challenge for about 5 laps until he is back in P1.
Helmut like: I *want* us to win the championship in Japan...
I didn't realize winks could be audible until I read that.
Netflix strikes again.
Their team is with Red Bull this weekend, they're gonna have a field day.
*and without fuel...
... You can't drive*
Shouldn't have aborted his second last attempt, that seemed like a pole lap
Second last attempt I said, can people read
Indeed. I don't understand why they aborted it.
Maybe he chose to, we don't know that bit. Still if it is fuel shortage RBR should have accounted for sufficient laps
Man he was almost a second faster than Leclerc. Guaranteed pole otherwise
He was half a second faster on the previous lap he aborted as well, definitely missed out on an easy pole
Then again a Charles pole seems to result in a Max win, so doubt it'll make a difference to the end result tomorrow.
Actually having a F1 race always results in a Max win.
Based on Belgium last year, not having an F1 race still results in a Max win.
He had a bunch of yellow mini-sectors in Sector 3, and we saw him slide wildly. I do think he would have been P1, but definitely not by a second.
Leclerc was very strong in Sector 3 - this is where he won pole over Hamilton.
Did you see his time in the first half of Q3? The lap we followed onboard? he was like .2 behind Lewis with major struggling. I thought he'd be seconds behind.
This was a wild quali
No clear pole until the very end!
Hopefully the race can be the same…
He was told to abort multiple fast laps by the pit wall in Q3. Understandably angry...
Can't afford the extra fuel for fast laps, sorry
Hé was like a second up on pole unless the timing was messed up?
Nope! He was up...pole was his
Perhaps this is Red Bull's Ferrari moment.
First the Checo incident, now this. Ferrari tribute weekend for RB. Tomorrow they will somehow manage to stick a fuel hose to the car during pits.
what Checo incident?
Max blocked Checo in Q2 because the pit wall thought Checo had aborted his lap as well (yellow flags made Max abort his run) and therefore didn't tell Max to move out of the way.
Clearly Helmut just want to win the championship in Japan
You can hear how annoyed he is by those subtle little inflexions in his tone
Exactly, it might be hard to hear it but the way he pronounced his “u” sounds in that sentence indicates displeasure
Red Bull reminding Max that he's playing on hard mode again this weekend.
They want to try to win from every position possible for the rest of the year
I think he's angry
Rare clip of RB messing up xD Probably not enough fuel. Would he have been P1 if he would have finished the last lap?
Definitely, he was 0.9s faster then Charles after S2
By a good margin as well..
You cant make this up..
Really good discipline from Max to abort the clear pole lap
Yeah that was the most surprising to me, his faith in his team. It must be nice being able to trust your team **that much.**
I was thinking the same. I think some drivers would've ignored the team's call, then they would get DSQ'ed and start from P20.
He is correct as they also made him abort his previous lap.
Both of which where good times
That… the lap before would have been pole already right?!??
where can we get an uncensored version of this lol
Spanish broadcast said most probably fuel. Would make sense since Checo didn't complete the cooling lap
They wanna win it in japan instead, home of Honda
2 great pole laps we never get to see..
Thank you, Red Bull, for letting us have this championship battle for one more race 😂
What the fuck? Surely it’s a fuel thing?
Probably the fuel thing they mentioned on the broadcast, but man, that looked super weird
is 8th good, for Max no, but is it still better than 20th, unquestionably yes.
I guess two push laps at the end was to much for the amount of fuel they put in.. Shame
Not enough fuel maybe ?
Must have been lack of fuel. Would have had a DSQ and P20 if he stopped on track.
Rising fuel costs were not calculated into the budget cap?
lmao, he was going to crush the time
All deliberate just so max can do his 8th to 1st challenge
They just really want him to win the championship in Japan.
He’s so upset it doesn’t even sound like Max..
Ferrari strategy team be like: Why didn't we think of that? Binotto admitting RB had the better strategy this session and vows to restructure their strategy team.
He didn't have enough fuel to finish the last couple corners?
Last few corners + cool down lap + FIA need a litre
Netflix is with Red Bull this weekend, they're gonna have a field day.
I like he holds the team accountable. Ham does similar. Lec needs to learn from them somehow
