Yeah, but that was because it was easy to install them incorrectly and think that it was correct. It was most definitely Nvidia's fault. Don't defend companies when they wouldn't do the same for you.
The connector design is flawed. Nvidia pushed the connector for some reason. The blame is mostly on PCI sig(Nvidia is part of) for the design of 12vhpwr connector which allows such a catastrophic failure on a user error which is very easy to make. Nvidia bears blame for pushing this unproven connector. You can argue users have some blame for making the mistake, although I believe they are the last ones to blame.
In the end the issue is remedied by opening up the case and pushing the connector all the way in. At the time of the findings around 0.04% were affected. It's still a shitshow, because it's a fire hazard. But this "Nvidia power connectors burn down" fame is over exaggerating the issue.
the amount of failures on melting is extremely extremely low, so I wouldn't say it was easy to fuck up.
I'm not defending, I'm just saying what is what.
That happens every time a new GPU is released. I would argue that since 40 series has been failing in sales that the 30 series had a larger boom of new builders, and thus more chance for failures like this to happen. But we didn't see anywhere near as many failures like this for the 30 series.
Used to have one of those things back in the day when they first showed up with their massive (at the time) copper fins. It was one of the weirdest looking heatsinks on the market and the first one I owned [didn't even have a fan attached to the heatsink itself](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c4/Zalman_heat_sink.jpg) (just a 120mm fan connected to an arm that screwed onto the case's PCI slots) but it worked so much better than what the competition was doing and it wouldn't break the bank either.
Yep, I was thinking it looks like my old [Zalman Reserator](http://www.zalman.com/US/Product/ProductDetail.do?pageIndex=1&pageSize=10&pageUnit=12&productSeq=279&searchCategory1=4&searchCategory2=49&searchCategory3=-99&searchKey=&searchWord=) with my old Zalman CNPS9500 on top.
They where huge in scandinavia atleast. That and some big chunky 80mm cooler that i can't remember the name of.
What alu pins screwed into a copper base. had one with a 80mm black delta, my guess is that it could have cooled a 12900k.
The 'ad for a beer company' might not be nice today, but could be cool in a few years/decades if it was this smaller beer company being creative in their advertisment and not this mega-corp making common beer.
True story: in 1977, Williams started its first season with a Belgian pay driver (Patrick Nève) who was supported by the small beer company Belle-Vue, whose name is all over the 1977 Williams (which was actually a March, but that's another story). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle-Vue\_Brewery
Reminds me of India’s F1 trophy.

True. I love the Indian trophy and is defo better than this. The vertical plates and outward flair on top of the formula e trophy just reminded me of it.
No exaggeration
http://www.zalman.com/US/Product/ProductDetail.do?pageIndex=1&pageSize=10&pageUnit=12&productSeq=279&searchCategory1=4&searchCategory2=49&searchCategory3=-99&searchKey=&searchWord=
Ahhhh.... remember the tines people actually got good trophies?? Why dont they make trophys like in the Britisch GP??
Also: why are there 2 nd place trophies
Its a heatsink.
You could probably cool half a 4090 with it
If the power cables hasn't burnt it already...
except those cables burn because they were not installed properly. they all had bends , not plugged in all the way
Yeah, but that was because it was easy to install them incorrectly and think that it was correct. It was most definitely Nvidia's fault. Don't defend companies when they wouldn't do the same for you.

Extremely low, but higher than it was for the 30 series. The PC building community didn't suddenly get stupider.
Didn't get stupider, but more people got into gaming
That happens every time a new GPU is released. I would argue that since 40 series has been failing in sales that the 30 series had a larger boom of new builders, and thus more chance for failures like this to happen. But we didn't see anywhere near as many failures like this for the 30 series.
If you can’t follow instructions and install components correctly then PC building is not for you. Buy a pre-built.
According to Gamers Nexus, these cables were easily done wrong, I tend to find them reputable.
I find them to love love love some drama.
They do that too, while remaining decently level headed, compared to other tech YouTube channels, in my opinion.
Gives me old school Zalman vibes
https://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index/2176?cPage=4&all=False&sort=0&page=1&slug= "Quiet" lol
More like https://techgage.com/article/zalman_reserator_1_v2_and_fan_kit/
OG watercooling was wild man
I hope there's an Athlon XP hidden in the base as an easter egg!
You brought me back in time. Thank you !
Oh indeed! A pain to clean though...

But nothing will ever be good enough for 12900KS.
Mine's doing kinda ok watercooled with a 9x120mm fan radiator, still not ideal though...
Relatable (I have an i3)
BTW: could you imagine if we got a non-X 7950? Just this 90-watt CPU with 16 cores that can get within error of the X variant.
This one watches Gamers Nexus
It's a beautiful heatsink, nonetheless.
Should be for the esports, so they can put it on their CPU
and now we wait for Linus to overclock a formulaE car with it
Bender's butt plug was my second thought...
Assie
Or a pool filter lol
Yeah, looks cool doesn't it
Imagine all the sliced up fingers 😬
Makes me wan to sweep the kitchen
Was about to say this.
Same
CC: /r/pcmasterrace
I’m sure that’s the point, being formula e
It’s a spaghetti bouqeut.
Nope, it's a Barilla ad.
Sponsored by Cooler Master. Just slap a fan on there and you can cool your i9
Max about to join Formula E so he can get a new cooler for his sim rig.
Knowing his fitness he probably could handle all the stress of driving 2 different types of car all season easily as wel. The schedule though... hmml
Still isn't large enough
needs some RGB though
If you told me Zalman made this in 2008 as a cpu heatsink I might believe you
This would probably work pretty well actually
Designed by Noctua
that is more a Zalman vibe. Noctua is better for the beige and poop-colored designs.
I straight away thought of Zalman. No fans, all copper. Massive.
is zalman a regional brand? in australia i've never heard of them or seen them for sale in online stores
The answer is you are in Australia. You don't get fun things there.
They where huge in scandinavia atleast. That and some big chunky 80mm cooler that i can't remember the name of. What alu pins screwed into a copper base. had one with a 80mm black delta, my guess is that it could have cooled a 12900k.
Even in their signature colour of diarrhea brown.
I call it "hearing aid beige"
My buddies and I call it the droid Roger Roger special
I actually like it
Yeah. It’s not an ad for a beer company so it’s nice.
The 'ad for a beer company' might not be nice today, but could be cool in a few years/decades if it was this smaller beer company being creative in their advertisment and not this mega-corp making common beer.
Yea one of those smaller beer companies that can sponsor Formula 1
I mean, probably possible in the 60s but today would be impossible
Okay.
Reminded me of a beer still though.
Reminds me of the Burger King Pretzel Chicken Bites^©.
hate to say it, but I actually kinda like the Heineken star trophies.
That ad for a beer company is still a way better trophy than phoning it in and making an outline of the track the trophy
If it's a trophy for winning a race (it says Mexico on it so I guess it is) then it's a nice one. It would be too vanilla for a championship trophy
The race in Mexico is tomorrow so, yeah.
Exactly what I was thinking
Yeah it looks cool, but if they're all the exact same any design would get old IMO
looks cool but the formula e logo is still 🥴
That's a giant heatsink. I guess the champagne is water cooling
Or a mace in techno-medieval video game
Slap a noctua fan above and you got yourself a deal
Better than Heineken logos on everything..
I like it. It looks grand.
Reminds me of India’s F1 trophy. [https://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/race-winner-and-2013-formula-one-world-champion-sebastian-news-photo/186019874](https://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/race-winner-and-2013-formula-one-world-champion-sebastian-news-photo/186019874)
Indian one looked better, that black and red along with seb holding it...
True. I love the Indian trophy and is defo better than this. The vertical plates and outward flair on top of the formula e trophy just reminded me of it.
Seb levitating it...
To be fair just about any trophy looks good whilst Seb is holding it.
Truth
my heart 😔
Looks like a bad guy lightsaber handle lol.
How the hell does this image cost 500$ lmao what a scam
Reminds me of an oil filter. The irony
Haha, was thinking the same thing :D
I think it's more like a heatsink
Ha- yeah- looks like some one sliced open a Fram.
Rip to the workers that have to dust that.
Compressed air FTW.
Huh? I thought it was forbidden to design a trophy without a big Heineken branding
Made in ITALY
I... like it? Much better than those hidious ones they have for regular f1 races.
I love it!
It's a damn CPU cooler
Cool trophy but having a common design for all the races is a bit of how hum.
Maybe it's just for the Mexico City race, despite the title. If they used a common design in Formula E before then yeah probably.
I'm a FE fan. Same design every race
It's similar to F1 trophy of Indian GP, one that Seb won.
Lol Seb won all Indian GPs. You didnt have to specify the last part XD
Indeed, that was a special one
Vettel and India 🤝 Hamilton and Portugal
Does it double as a heat sink for my CPU?
This looks like something that would be used to beat someone to death on Game of Thrones
Intel finally stepping up their stock cooler game. Should finally be enough for a 13900k.
Why did I think it was uncooked spaghetti at first
Heatsink?
That's going to be a nightmare to get your duster in there...
Definitely want to keep that one in the cabinet.
I actually really like it
Too damn minimal. I wish more trophies looked like the Wimbledon trophy.
I'm firmly against trophies you can't drink out of, no matter how cool they look.
Got that Intel stock cooler heatsink vibes
It's okay, but looks like a drag to clean/dust off
Spaghetti anyone?
A gamer pc cooler
I'm somehow able to simultaneously hate it and love it an equal amount. I guess that really means I have no opinion on it...
Heatsink which the winner can use on their 2024 car
The spaghetti cup!
Garlic doesn’t stand a chance
With that font type, I can’t avoid to think “Formula E, brought to you by Eurovision”
Oil filter, ironically.
Right on time i needed a new heatsink
wow i get a heat sink for driving my heat sink in the heat
Why is the P1 a bronze heatsink?
is this the new nvidia heat sink in the 9090s ?!
What a nightmare to dust 😂

No exaggeration http://www.zalman.com/US/Product/ProductDetail.do?pageIndex=1&pageSize=10&pageUnit=12&productSeq=279&searchCategory1=4&searchCategory2=49&searchCategory3=-99&searchKey=&searchWord=
I thought this was a heatsink
It doesn’t look plasticy and cheap in these photos which already makes it better than 90% of motorsport trophies these days.
Nicer than F1 beer and shady companies propaganda
r/designporn
Dust magnet….also….formulae
Looks bit like the gardens by the bay towers in singapore. They could have made them to look exactly like that.
Pretty lame but so is formula e, so 🤷🏻♂️
"modern art"
Modern trash
Ahhhh.... remember the tines people actually got good trophies?? Why dont they make trophys like in the Britisch GP?? Also: why are there 2 nd place trophies
> Britisch GP? Thanks how *British* would have been spelled if Germany won WW2
Haha😅 I'm sorry though😉
Even the trophy is ugly. What an absolute joke of a racing series.
I like it, far nicer than giving the winner a Heineken ad every week. Also, FE is pretty enjoyable, and there's far less BS amongst the fanbase too.
Fair enough. I personally don’t enjoy it, but that shouldn’t stop those who do.
Ew..?
I lost my broomstick.
That's metal
That's a safety hazard yo
Oh neat, might enter formula E! I need a new heatsink for my CPU.
Could make a mean custard with that whisk
Maxi Götz called, he wants his 2021 DTM season trophy back
That's an amazing design!
Well it looks very much like a computer heatsink to me
There's minimalistic and then there's a lack of taste , which way ? green Bois
MUCH better than the previous, still wish they'd switch it up race by race
Looks like a de-gloved horse hoof.
Do they use one-off trophies? Bcs I actually like it when we have and designers nail it.
Aint no way💀
Can I get one of these for my 5900X?
Forbidden Fleshlight
Can you grab it without gloves?
The logo makes it look so low rent
Big brown shuttlecock
Looks like some kind of Revlon makeup brush.
Looks like a air filter
Reminds me of the torch for the 1996 Olympics relay.
I thought this was a joke post and a pic of a file folder
WDT distribution tool used by James Hoffman
Looks like the 1000th Pokémon
I've never gone so fast from "shapely woman" to "PC hardware" as when seeing that thumbnail then the full images.
Is it copper or bronze?
Looks like the inside of an oil filter
Thanks, I completely forgot how atrocious the new Formula E logo is
Much better than some sponsored f1 trohpies.
thats a big ass led bulb.
That’s gonna be a nuisance to dust.
so many comments calling it a heat sink but like, doesn’t it look kinda like an electric motor to anyone else?
Pretty sure I’ve got one of these in my PC
It looks like a crazy oil filter
Looks like spaghetti
Looks like the vents of a car air filter.
Looks like a shotgun shell that sprouts at the end
