That brisket was cut and served by a blind person.
Plenty of blind people could cut and serve brisket.
Probably better than this
Free finger food included.
I asked for a moist cut so he had to improvise haha
That is not moist
I saw this and thought "that looks really dry..."
There should be a bot that says “looks dry” whenever brisket is captioned
You may have a point. I just looked at a picture of the last brisket I did (which was quite moist) and it looks dry as a bone.
So you ate it and know? Because you cannot tell from that pic if it was moist or not. It's a damn phone pic in a dim restuarant
Well he said it looked dry not that is was.
They didn't separate the flat from the point? Where is this, New York City??
The bbq is awful here in NYC, so probably
Found the Texan.
Bro, look at the mac n cheese
Super rough looking mac. Is it also dry smoked
It's separated to shit. This is some SAAAAAAD Mac.
I’ve also never had fries with my brisket. And where are the beans?
I work at a bbq place in texas and the amount of people who are pissed we don't serve fries is astounding
So serve fries?
That macncheese honestly looks kinda sad too
New York City!!???
Oh my god they didn’t. I was struggling to figure out why the fat looked so weird.
Get a rope
What about hometown?
Not sure about this one. Hoping that it was good and you enjoyed it. The mac and cheese looking more like mac and something.
Mac and heat lamp.
It does look very average
Average is generous. Fries look awful, mac and cheese bad, brisket is a really weirdly cut/portion which calls the whole thing into question, and while the chicken is probably fine I see no noticeable smoke in the piece that is cut.
I don’t agree about the fries. They look handmade, I usually love fries that look like that. I will agree that the entire dish looks subpar
Handmade but soggy as hell. Which is unavoidable when you throw fries into a styrofoam container, but still - some of those are warped and soaked in oil.
I actually like mushy fries better lol
Sorry bro.. but have you ever eaten food before?? Looks pretty good to me…
Is that Kalahari Chicken? Because it looks drier than the desert.
I'm one of those weird people that prefers that "dryer" type of mac and cheese over the creamy ones so I'm down with this. I see it pretty often in BBQ and Jamaican joints.
So you enjoy overcooked mac n cheese?
You don’t have to church it up. I like my hot dogs burnt. Stand by your strangeness!
Overcooked? Nah I think it’s just a higher cheese to roux ratio. Or maybe no roux at all? Honestly not sure how they do it.
Mac and cheese clumps
They didn't bind the cheese to the noodles enough. Probably baked in cheese without any "cheese sauce". Everything else looks great
Yeah, looks like if you use a fork that cheese is falling off the noodle. Happens when you use the wrong cheese then reheat it in the microwave, making a Mac and cheese roux is so easy... I will never understand how these places serve something bad that is so easy to make good.
IDK the quality or flavor of this mac and cheese (which looks questionable), but some people/places (including in our home) intentionally make baked mac & cheese without a roux - usually with cubed cheese instead of shredded. Done right you can end up with crispy cheese clusters of noodles that is kind of like "all edges" of a creamier recipe. For us, it's just a different style.
I've been thinking of doing a one noodle deep baked Mac with tons of top cheese to have almost all edges.
I’d rather eat Mac and cheese from a box than that
>The mac and cheese looking more like mac and something.
I had to zoom in because I thought it was little shrimps.
Mac and maggots
I've have BBQ that looked similar and better and it was all shit. Brisket was flavorless, dry as shit Mac, dry chicken, and ribs that is cakes in sauce and not done right. Ribs need to have a nice layer of sticky kind of caramelized BBQ sauce and not like someone dumped a bottle on the ribs AFTER they're done.
I hope the meat was good but if I got that sad Mac I would ask for a different side. I would fear their potato salad would be dry too somehow. Seems like no restaurant knows how to make a good smooth and cheesy mac. Home made is always superior.
This whole meal blows me. Imagine posting this lmao yikes
The fries are magnificent and my favorite kind. Can anyone help me understand what this specific style is?
I’ve had a hard time describing it but I can tell from the pic this is EXACTLY the kind I like. Skin on is all I know n
Pretty sure they're referred to as "House Cut" fries.
Hmmm gotcha. Is there anything diff that makes them as they are though? Like 5% of places I go have these and they’re distinctly better to me.
Given the length it has to be a large sized potato like Idaho I assume. But I imagine the oil or method is what makes them amazing.
For reference, 5 guys fries are the same as what I’m mentioning and seeing here. And they use peanut oil which I think is the secret sauce I’m looking for
Was about to say peanut oil is probably the difference maker before I got to the end of your comment haha.
There's a ton of info on the internet on how 5 guys makes their fries and copycat recipes to try out. It's actually a very specific process.. but yeah peanut oil fries are bomb.
Fresh, homecut fries, and if done right, the real secret is blanching before actual final fry.
Hmmm the blanche might be part of the missing link.
Good call. Still need oil, potato type, and method of any extra beyond that.
Oil type varies, canola is typically most common, next to vegetable.
And really, blanching is the real secret for most good fresh cut fries.
Because once they're blanched they don't need to be in the fryer after for very long at all.
Love it, thank you!!!
I’m partial to the peanut oil after five guys, who
replicated this style identically for me. Never tried canola though and will do that for sure.
Super intriguing on the lower fry necessity. Def affords that more real potato flavor and less crunchy oil soaked skin flavor you see everywhere else.
I’m surprised the fresh cut is so integral though. Must mean basically everything else I’ve had is frozen or less than fresh then?
Fresh cut fries.
That’s it? No special oil or process? Potato def matters also bc red golds wouldn’t be like this (only like 2” long if so).
Ravioli ravioli give me the formuoli
Kingston frying potatoes, cut and washed, blanched once in 300° soybean oil(what my restaurant uses) for 4 minutes, then fried at 375° for 2-4 minutes
Why is this tagged vegan?
The fries duh
The fries that could likely be fried in beef fat?
The person you replied to was clearly sarcastic, but just FYI most fries aren’t fried in animal fat
The best fries are
So true. Soooooo fucking true. And vegetable oils are used in favor largely for health reasons, which pisses me off because you're eating FRENCH FRIES. If you want to be healthy, you really shouldn't be eating french fries at all... Or likely anything else from a restaurant that serves french fries.
My favourite fish and chips place fries everything in beef fat. It's all delicious.
It's more common than you'd think. My GF is vegetarian and asks whenever she wants to order fries, the answer is yes more often than you'd think so then she doesn't get them
why tf would they do that??!?!?
Not what you'd expect, right? But it's more common than you'd think. My GF is vegetarian and asks at restaurants, answer is yes pretty often so then she doesn't get them.
McDonald's, for example, uses beef fat and there's also milk in their fries somehow
[McDonalds used beef fat for frying their fries until 1990 when they switched to 100% vegetable oil.](https://blog.cheapism.com/why-mcdonalds-fries-used-to-be-better/)
McDonald's got in big trouble in India for this.
That just sounds incredibly stupid... And like, didn't they hire locals? What on earth?
That doesn’t look good at all
I feel like this is the sort of picture posted by someone on vacation. It looks like standard BBQ fare that could be found anywhere in the South.
Yes you’re right. I’m from TX but I think people around the world could appreciate good BBQ. also people in TX kind of take it for granted. BBQ is one of the main “have to try” items when people come to the USA.
Bro i am people from around the world and that looks like absolute dogshit.
I love BBQ brisket
That looks so scrumptious
This looks amazing! I love some good bbq.
As a Texan, I've often thought fries should be served with BBQ but you'd be surprised to see how often fries are not offered at bbq joints.
Fries should always be served with fries yes
Sorry lol, I mean bbq
You know what that needs is some nice coleslaw
Those fries look awesome to me
the real secret is to take 30% of the brisket and rub it on your chest
Buddy - this looks more like a BBQ that I would get for a random sports fundraiser in Upstate NY.
If you're from TX, there's no way you don't have better BBQ joints based on the time I have visited. Hell, I have a better BBQ joint in my town and I'm pretty sure they don't have running water.
Didn’t realize this subreddit turned into a BBQ competition 😅 I enjoyed the food so I wanted to share it with others who I thought would also enjoy.
it's nice you enjoyed your first ever time trying bbq, you're gonna flip when you have the good stuff
Fair enough man. It's hard to convey taste in a photo, and as long as it tasted great, that's all that matters. It just honestly doesn't *look* great in comparison to traditional Southern/Western BBQ.
I'm not a foody, this was just on my front page.
I hate Carolina BBQ after having lived there coming from the Midwest. Don't have an opinion man. I ALWAYS get down voted for saying that edit: there we go idc BBQ snobs that shredded dry ass meat sucks and the sauce is vile
"I'M FROM TEXAS AND WE'RE THE ONLY PLACE THAT CAN DO BBQ" shut up already lol
Stick to the Wings and Garbage plates!
Texan here. WTF is this? Definitely not BBQ.
Tbf they never said they had Texas BBQ. Looks like something you'd get from a smokehouse here in Canada.
Texas BBQ snobs are as bad as NYC pizza snobs
And both places have by far the best of their respective foods
Maybe they’re on to something
Thanks for letting us know
Where from in Texas? Edit: Houston. Good. Don't know Hitters though.
Good Texan brisket - yum. My favorite BBQ meats & no sauce 🙂
i could be wrong, but everything looks very dry lol
Mmm mmm, finger licking good.
Looks delicious 😋
Only the best bbq comes in cheap styrofoam containers, it's law
The Chicken look so damn delicious!
As mediocre as this looks my stomach is still growling.
THAT IS SOME MRS SHAPIRO BBQ
Don't get me wrong, this looks good and I'd fuck it up any day.. but for a BBQ joint, seems like they jibbed you
Those fries look amazing
A meal with two meats always bothered me but i always ate it anyway cuz i love meat
I just ate 5 beef and bean burritos. The frozen ones you can get at Walmart.
**as long as** that’s all still warm/hot, that would be incredible
Oh hey there Texas BBQ! Looking pretty decent but you forgot the sauce.
Love, Kansas City
Here's some Arby's BBQ packets and some horsey sauce
Yep that sounds similar to what Texans use for sauce in my experience.
Nah, cheap bottle of sweet baby rays and a bottle of random fancier shit always sits in the fridge. We just pretend we stop at the mop sauce.
In all seriousness, I’ve been a big fan of [this](https://texaspepperjelly.com/rib-candy/) stuff lately on my ribs, and [this](https://texaspepperjelly.com/pepper-jelly/) when it comes to wrapping them. Got it from a recipe off [this](https://www.meatchurch.com/) dude, good Texas rubs there as well.
That all looks amazing and I’m going to buy some of it to supplement my sauce rack.
Nice! I just used a few for my pulled pork tonight. Cheers!
Ehh, I’d eat that. People here are fucking weird pricks. I doubt you paid exorbitantly, but yeah food is food. Sometimes presentation doesn’t matter. Gatekeeping weirdos. We all don’t make a quarter mil programming
my local bbq place is like 10 bucks for a half slab lmao
People thinking food looks bad isn’t gatekeeping. Y’all have lost all sense of what that word even means
I would eat it but I would definitely not take a picture of it and brag about it
Don't see the big deal with pretty cuts of meat. It's meat, if it's good eat it. Especially BBQ. Trying to make fine dining out of old world food is rediculous
I can see how it feels glorious to smoke a good piece of beef that melts in your mouth. I don't fault people for that :).
It is just a bit of a shame this sub is almost entirely about showing off briskets. 😅
I smoked chicken liver with a spicy rub. It tastes soooo good. Best way for me to eat liver so far. Just have to find right point between crispy-like outside while keeping it juicy enough inside.
Also smoked sea bream which is fantastic. Simply smoked and sprinkled with seasalt on the plate.
Never had fish done so well. Yum.
That's exactly why I take my Ferrari offroading. It's a car, drive it.
We eat with our eyes. Presentation is a big deal. BBQ is a long slow process that takes effort. To just say fuck it, just throw it at me, ruins something that someone clearly worked hard on.
But by the looks of the Mac, here, the love I described isn't exactly there
Yes, I'd definitely eat that
why would you admit it looks good lmfao
That’s what Im saying!!
The problem here is… OP is in Houston, so they are indeed lucky because there are innumerable “better “ BBQ joints all over Houston.
Ngl that looks pretty rough, OP. Hope it tasted better than it looked
That is fucking pathetic!
I'd hit it.
Omg and you got free maggots on the side!! Lucky
Can never have enough protein![img](emote|t5_2qh55|1792)
You gonna eat that? /Brooks Hadlin
How does one eat BBQ without coleslaw?
Aren't they usually black containers though?
This place is actually called Hitters BBQ in Houston,TX
Dude. Every bbq place I’ve ever been uses those little sauce cups.
So this is what vegans eat??
Looks like cafeteria food
you have no right tempting me like this when i have another 3 hours before lunch
Good enough for me!
That mac looks awful and the meat looks dry.
How did it taste?
Is that chicken dry?
By the looks of it, yes
Did it cost over $25
German here: why serving Mac & Cheese to already complete meal of fries and meat?
Light American breakfast
that mac n cheese looks so terrible lmao
So many people going out of their way and taking time out of their day just to comment on a reddit post shitting on food a stranger enjoyed; honestly it tasted amazing Just downvote and leave lol
looks fucking dry
Why would this get 7K up votes?
You got enough to share with your whole family too, how wholesome
Thats as American is it gets
That would cost about $20 here...
How i can make fries like that, With the peel of course.
Yo, who cook this?
