Start up Fantasy Baseball Dynasty League need users ($25 entry 12 Team H2H PTS FanTrax)
Year 1 of a fantasy baseball dynasty league. Need users for a slow draft in the next few days. Scoring and position settings attached. Dm for an invite.
12 man redraft roto, how many bench spots do you prefer with 2 DL spots?
I like 5 anything less is just brutal given how often guys rest these days.
I know right. I am so spoiled on 7, doing yahoo leagues sucks but does make for nice waiver pickups. Yahoo also has the 2 DL spots
I’m in points league. Brendan Rodgers or Brandon Crawford? Need to drop one for a backup catcher. Any recommendations for that spot too? Thanks in advance
My recommendation is don’t bother with a backup catcher
You don’t think there will be some viable good-hitting catchers that get more ABs this year due to the universal DH?
There’s very few catchers in the entire league that are worth giving DH ABs to. No I’m not concerned with subpar hitters getting a few more at bats
Okay. Well if I were to drop one of those two guys I mentioned earlier for a pitcher or other position player who would it be haha
Sorry one last question lol….if the rookie orioles catcher is available do I drop Crawford for him? Got garver currently
Thanks. That’s what I was thinking too. Good luck this season!
In a QS league, would you drop one of Jon Gray, Jordan Montgomery or Alex Wood for Jesus Luzardo? Gauging where people are putting Luzardo after this hot spring training.
Not in a QS league.
That's where I'm at with him when people ask me for advice. I believe that Jon Gray, JoMont, and Wood are all better for a QS league. They're all about one step away from being aces as well. The Luzardo hype is so real right now though, dude looks nasty.
I haven't drafted yet and I'm in a weird categories league. In addition to the typical 5x5 (QS not W), there's also, on offense: hits, BB, Ks, and pitchers: HR, BB, K/9, and BSV.
I'm thinking I'll punt saves, focus on pitcher Ks since they're basically double-counted, and mostly use OBP to pick bats. Do you see any other weaknesses in this format I can exploit?
`Yahoo Standard 12T: H2H 5x5 Cats`
First time playing Fantasy Baseball. Ended the draft without getting a single closer.
One team drafted Hader, Hendriks, Barlow, Trivino, and Barnes. Very strange when it's a paid league and they're Gold rank. Their bats aren't great either.
Will I be able to get enough saves from the waiver to be competitive or should I just punt it from day one? I'm also not sure how many bench spots to give (we have six) for potential closers.
Like the other commenter said, keep an eye on waivers and also keep an eye on terrible relief appearances. People are quick to ditch their closers if they have a terrible outing. Be ready with a trade the next day and you could get in low.
In a 5x5 categories league, you can punt Saves. However, you will easily be able to get some saves on the wire as well since roughly half of the league doesn't have a "set" closer. Just stay vigilant on waivers and you should be able to get 2-3 guys that will finish in the top half of the league in Saves.
Thanks! I'll try my best to stay on top of it.
Who should theoretically go first overall in my league? H2H cats 6x6 with ops, qs, saves+holds. I'm guessing soto or turner?
OPS league id take Soto
Give: Yordan Alvarez, Aaron Nola
Get: Luke Voit, Vlad
Flair league, redraft, do it or not?
I'd probably hold. Yordan and Vlad can put up very similar numbers and Nola is a Top-20 pitcher. I'm a big fan of Voit this year but I think the value is just a little off unless you're extremely deep in pitching.
No for me
In a roto league, Cole or Max? Got an opportunity to get one of them and I can't decide. Cole's first start was a disaster.
I'd go with Cole. Every pitcher is risky but I feel like Scherzer is slightly more of an injury/decline risk due to his age.
Starting a ground floor rebuild of a team with very few assets in a deep league. Would it be wiser (if given the opportunity) to grab Suzuki in the draft and hope he pops off so I can trade him, or go for a regular prospect?
I think it depends on your league. Do you think there are owner(s) that would pay up for the shiny new toy if Seiya has a good April?
No clue, sadly. I just took over the team, and there's not a ton to work with, trying to formulate the best path forward.
Depends who is available, but in general I'd rather take a high ceiling prospect in that situation over counting on trading Suzuki.
That's how I was leaning, though I'll likely miss out on the 3 big names from this past year picking 4th. There are a few decent unowned prospects, in the top 30 range (depending on who you ask) though.
I think I was a little too paranoid about 3B depth and ended up with Arenado, Bryant and Bregman.
At the minimum you have some good trade assets now.
All those guys go around the same time too, did you draft them all in a row? At least KB can play OF
Bryant and Arenado went 5 and 6 round but Bregman fell to me in the 10th! Had to take him. Too much potential value there.
Did my first ever auction draft. That was long and weird. Nominating players out of order threw me off. I was going to try and get a player from each ten player tier like a snake draft.
Some managers bid so strangely. One guy got 4 players from what would be top two rounds, then not much until the very end.
I should have been stronger on a couple of players that I really wanted.
A friend asked for advice with an auction. Said he thinks it's best to nominate guys early that he doesn't want but knows will be expensive. So he can drain people and then get his guys. Is this effective?
yes I think a lot of people do this. just have to resist the urge to drive up the bidding unless you get stuck with them, other people might have the same strategy
Yes and even just "good" players very early. People just wanted to bid and get guys. Players went above value early then later a guy with a value of say $6 would go for $3.
One thing that I found odd was how some players would go for WAY over their value just seemingly randomly.
Is Matt Brash worth looking into in 14-team redraft?
Given his upside he's definitely worth a shot in a deeper league like that.
In SV+H CAT leagues, how long would you wait to get a closer? Assuming you get hold guys at the end of drafts
I honestly wouldn't even sweat getting a closer. Get elite RP and if they're just holds guys, roster more of them and fewer SP.
You can wait longer with value later. Top tier guys will go before round 8-10 for sure
Is fantasypros worth it for the mock draft feature?
I’m in a H2H points keeper league on Fantrax with future pick trading and my head hurts trying to play this out on espn mock drafts
FP has a free mock draft app that was helpful to get a sense of the range of players who could be available in a round. You should be able to import league draft settings
How do we feel about Tyler O’Neil? How about around pick 140?
Seeing O'Neill go 72 on CBS so if you can get him at 140 do it, and tell me where you're drafting on
ESPN. According to projectile pro in ESPN points leagues he’s going on average at pick 148 as of 3/29
Absolutely a take. I know he's a lot lower in points rankings but he's still worth it in points outside of the top 100
That’s what I’m thinking. Almost seems a little too good to be true
Has anyone who's mock drafted on ESPN notice the auto-draft acting really weird? It seems to make insane reaches on pitchers and won't touch some highly ranked position players
I did one a few days ago and don't remember the exact details but I noticed it wasn't following the Sort By that was being presented by default. I changed the sorting from 'adp' to 'projected' or something along those lines and it seemed more representative to the order that the auto draft was going in.
It's definitely weird. But I'm at least glad they even have an autodraft that doesn't just take the highest ranked player available. Baby steps I guess
Mock drafts are awful with the bots
Yeah it’s always been a little wacky
Struggling with keeper league, got 5 keepers.
And trying to decide between M Olson and F peralta.
Olson would require a 7th draft pick and peralta is 20.
Love the value with Peralta but Olson in the 7th is still a big win. I'd go with Olson and lock up an elite 1B.
Peralta in the 20th?? That's gotta be the one.
Olson unless your team is lacking pitching
Drafted kelenic but I have the growing sense that he might just stink
Same! Really wish he’d show us something in Spring. Reports are 1) batting .118 2) same trouble seeing the ball 3) bulked up in an awkward way. Of course compare his sad struggles to JRod who raised his stock even more and looks ready
I have to draft him in every league where I get the chance. I was so excited before that I can't risk hopping off the train before he takes off.
He’s worth a flyer. Where’d you draft him?
That’s worth it considering his upside I wouldn’t fret tbh
Did my first auction last night. 12 team 5x5. It's a keeper league and I inherited a team that was pretty substandard. Kept Devers 36, Gausman 11, Swanson 7, Grichuk 1. Won't go through the whole team but someone please tell me if any of these buys aren't as great as I think they are. I know I absolutely stole Trea Turner who was the opening nomination for 43 (Vlad & Soto went for 60, Acuna for 50). Story 32, Castellanos 32, Realmuto 16, Verlander 22, Wainwright 14.
The Trea and Realmuto picks are steals for sure. I think the rest are about fair, definitely a bit high for Waino.
Who’s winning the 5th spot in the mariners rotation?
It’ll be Brash unless they trade for another starter which is less and less and less likely by the day
Looking like Brash.
Got him in the 30th round of my nfbc auction. Go brash go!
Josh Donaldson or Josh Bell in redraft flair league?
Donaldson (coming from a Nats fan)
Donaldson. Little more upside in that lineup, and easily replaced when he gets hurt in an 8 teamer.
Thinking the same. Just that I am afraid that his health will be bad once again
Picking 6th in my h2h points 10 teamer:
Vlad, Burnes, Bichette, Tucker will be gone as they are keepers this year.
I figure Soto/Turner/Ramirez/Cole are most likely to be taken ahead of my pick:
Who would you go with at 6 in that case?
Harper, Trout, Betts, Acuna? Or someone else?
Acuna, trout, Harper, betts is how I would rank
Acuna would be mine but Harper is safer. Hopefully DeGrom comes back to you in the 2nd.
Harper. He's 85% of Trout with less injury risk. Acuna is still rehabing. Betts is probably past his prime.
On espn, if the settings on minimum innings is at 42, will it automatically increase in a 11-day matchup? Or it has to be changed manually?
Best use of a last round pick on a 1B - N. Lowe, Dalbec, Hiura?
Dalbec. Better lineup and park. Hiura is a aaaa player who always does better in spring training. Wait to see it if he truly has fixed something
Hiura seems fixed. If you're going to take a flier, take a flier
Dalbec has biggest upside. Lowe is a good sleeper too
McNeil or Madrigal?
Does ke’bryan Hayes have any chance of being good this year? I’m so thin at 3b
Yeah he should at least provide decent average, with a shot to go 20 HR 10 SB. That's not terrible.
Yes he should be a solid3B option but he’s a better on-field player than in fantasy
Springer and either Altuve or Ketel
Clint Frazier is going to push for a full time role... right?
What's the deal with JD Davis? Needs a trade or 2+ serious injuries for 500 PA?
He’ll get some reps at 3b when Escobar needs a day off and maybe an occasional DH game (splitting time with Dom/Cano), but yeah he’s a ways off of 500pa
I have him and DomSmith in a 16 team daily league. Hoping to have a respectable platoon at CI.
Which side (H2H points)
A) Edwin Diaz & Clayton Kershaw
B) Ranger Suarez & Bailey Ober
A by a mile - assuming elite closers have more value than Bailey Ober...
They actually don’t in an ESPN H2H points league. SP with RP eligibility are gold in that format and end up leading RP points every year.
I don’t know about this trade overall, but Suarez is the primary target here. He was 6th in RP last year,
outscoring Diaz overall (319 vs 303) and has a secure rotation spot this year.
I completely forgot about SPARP. You're right, Suarez is by far the best player in that case.
I just traded B side to get A side, espn default scoring so saves are 5
Better 5x5 12 team redraft start
Harper and Scherzer or Cole/Burnes and Robert
Harper Scherzer but it’s close
I'm picking 6th and have been thinking this over for days...
I think I prefer Harper at 6 and then whichever one of Scherzer/Woody/deGrom/Buehler falls to 19. I owned Cole last year and he wasn't the same pitcher after the sticky stuff ban. His entire breakout in HOU was because of the sticky stuff and RPM research they were doing at the time.
Give me Harper/Scherzer
Would taking Hader/Hendriks be smart around pick 45?
In points? Probably not...
12 team H2H points 12 keepers.
Before draft got offered these.
Trading away: 1st, 3rd, Moncada or France
Receiving: Darvish and Altuve
Trading away: 1st, 3rd, Kelenic
I'm already keeping Cole, Verlander, McClanahan for pitching
And I have 2 2nd Rd picks
Take either option?
Better late round add - Adell or Oneil Cruz?
Adell just because Cruz likely gets held down for a month. That's one more month with Adell to figure out if you want to move on from this late round dart throw or not.
I drafted both
Adell for this year, probably Cruz if this were next year
Adell - but I’m an angels fan and probably biased.
Whats a normal budget for a 10 team auction league?
$260 is standard auction budget.
260 is normal I believe (but I don’t play in a ton of auctions)
Mahle, Luzardo or Mitch Keller?
Mahle is head and shoulders above the other two. He’s proven to be good at the big league level. Luzardo and Keller have been really bad in the brief time in the MLB. They are still young and have upside, but those two don’t belong with Mahle.
mahle is a stud
once he gets the pitch count problem down hes top 15
Honestly just a trade would help him a lot.
How does everyone feel about Jared Walsh this year? Is he worth extending on my keeper team? I already have Alonso and Cronenworth at 1b with tork in the minors. He's only a $3 salary increase but I'm wondering if it was just a flash in the pan for him. Looks like he might get platooned this year.
He is horrendous against lefties and if I remember correctly he was pretty bad in the second half of the year. I’m avoiding this season but at a 3 dollar increase probably worth keeping but don’t know the specifics of your league
Angels fan - he won’t get platooned too much. They will spill him vs a tough leftie, but I should bet he gets 500+ at bats.
I think he's a legit .265 30 HR bat for the next ~3 seasons. Worth owning for under $5ish in a 10 team?
Yeah, I picked him off the waiver last year at $1 and I can extend up to 4 years at $3 increase per season.
I'd give him 1 or 2 years. Depends on how much inflation your league has.
Thoughts on Cal Quantrill? Still sitting there near the end of my draft...
Prospect pedigree, should get tons of opportunity in Cleveland this year, sp to eligible, what’s not to like
Not a ton of upside but worth betting on the CLE magic making him an SP3.
Franmil Reyes or Nelson Cruz for a util spot?
(10-team standard 5x5 daily H2h most cats)
Used my bench spots for Nats and Red Sox players because they’re my teams. Bad fantasy move? Maybe. But I don’t regret it
Kinda rough if only because your bench players should help fill in your roster when players have off days. If you have a bulk of one team then most of your bench will be out on the same day.
As long as Lane Thomas is one of them then you win your league
Redsox? Sure. Nats? They're awful.
Anyone still liking Houck as a breakout candidate? I was prepared to draft him late, but apparently, he's walking a lot of guys this spring and might not win a rotation spot.
With Sale out they've already said he's getting the 5th spot.
Their rotation is pretty thin. I think he’s definitely going to get a chance to start
Yup. If he doesn't start, you can drop him and use the spot for early-season speculation pick-ups.
Devin Williams or Lou Trivino? Saves are 8 points and holds 4.
Williams. The difference between a save and a hold isn’t nearly as large as the difference in talent there. And Trivino might not be the closer all year either
Draft night 🙏
Franmil or Mountcastle?
Franmil, 100 times over.
Thoughts on taking a flyer on Gilbert at around pick 175?
Good chance at a breakout for him this year. He worked out with deGrom this offseason. He's commanding his breaking pitches better and added 8-9 MPH to his slider.
That’s crazy. I’ll definitely invest in him since he’s such a low price
Anyone know WTF Michael Conforto is thinking?
Straight chillin' while Scott Boras whispers sweet nothings into his ear.
“Please dear God someone offer me a contract”
ruiz or kirk in points redraft? Feels like kirk just got a boost and could DH some.
Ruiz. He's the future in WAS - no threat to his PT. If Kirk has the slightest sophomore slump he's back in AAA when Moreno is ready. The Jays aren't going to give his bat any slack with his glove being average at best.
*very* slight edge to Ruiz since he has the clearer lock on playing time, but you’re basically flipping a coin in my opinion, both guys are good high-floor bats with some power upside
Two years ago I said that I'd draft Corbin burnes in the third round and I got down voted to oblivion. Look who's laughing now.
over two years ago i already had him on my bench. waiting for the breakout.
all my receipt-keepers let’s goooo
You seem… Salty.
Of course. The downvotes make me stronger. I'm from the salt city. We're all salty here.
Thoughts on Ranger Suarez? Was he for real last year? Worth taking late this season?
I think he relies too much on fastball/changeup and those guys tend to get figured out pretty quick. I’m not targeting him just because now that there’s a good amount of tape oh him, he could regress pretty hard
That shutout during championship week last year was badass though so I’ll always love him for that
Ian Anderson or Sandoval?
ian but sandoval has bigger ceiling
Best option for third OF...Carlson, Suzuki, Verdugo, Renfroe?
Suzuki. He crushed in Japan and has great projections.
It's interesting how divergent the projections are on him. ZIPS and Steamer have a 300 point OPS difference.
ZIPS DC - .211/.281/.343 14 HR 6 SB
Steamer - .287/.387/.533 29HR 9SB
I lean towards steamer in this case. The talent is legit. He's the best Japanese hitter to come over since Matsui. (not counting Ohtani)
For some reason I think ZiPS has the wrong numbers for him. [Dan Symborski has an article from a little while ago and the ZiPS projection there is way better](https://blogs.fangraphs.com/projecting-seiya-suzuki/)
That article has a .287/.351/.480 slash line with 23 HR and 12 SB.
That makes sense. Thanks for the link.
Tossup between Duggy and Carlson for me. I am a Cardinals fan so take that for whatever it means
is rasmussen an opener? brings no value to max start
leagues it sucks
He'll likely open a game, start a game, long relief a game, hold a game, save a game.
Rays gonna Rays.
Most likely. Tampa Bay is going to find a way to change pitchers mid pitch soon just so we can’t roster anyone.
I’m taking a pitcher with my 1st pick… Scherzer, Urias, Lance Lynn are the top 3 available. H2H categories league. Do I go with Scherzer on this one?
Yes you go with Max
A. Polanco, C.Taylor
B. Edman, Meadows
Who wins the trade in a H2H points league?
Albies/Webb for Bichette/Berrios
Webb is more valuable in CATs. Close, but Bichette/Berrios has the edge.
I’d take Bichette/Berrios
In a 10 Team h2h .. Looking to see how I drafted and where I can improve:
R HR RBI SB AVG OPS
OF-Castellanos, Bellinger, C.Taylor (2B,3B,SS),
UTIL- Cronenworth(1B,2B,SS), Cron
BN – Adames (SS), T.Grisham(OF), A.Garcia (OF), Brantley (OF), Baddoo (OF)
IP ERA WHIP K/9 QS SV+H
SP – Wheeler, Alcantara, Lynn, Morton
P- Ohtani, P.Lopez, R.Suarez (RP), Ynoa
RP – E.Diaz
Below are some FA's.. let me know if any are worth adding and who my drop is. Thx in advance guys
FA Bats - Benintindi, Blackmon, Schwindel, L.Urias
FA - Arms - Civale, G.Marquez, Houck, Greinke, Mize, J.Gray,
