They sent a letter through mail to let you know that THEY know where you live.

Silly-Contribution21

They showed up https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2022/07/01/feds-show-up-at-home-of-north-texas-woman-who-posted-angry-tweets-after-roe-decision/

OriginalName687

I think the most shocking aspect is the tweet only had 8 retweets and 31 likes yet they still noticed it.

Elyktronix

Could be some algorithm or other fancy-word technology that sent up a red flag in response to words that are specifically targeted for inappropriate/threatening usage.

thelastpizzarolll

Fuck, slaughter, government, and or someone reported it. That’s the Texan way

This is the way. ML FTW

DmanDam

You are now flagged for the harassment and threat of the United States government. This message was written out by the United States government. Goodbye.

fishers86

I had my TS/SCI clearance suspended for saying my supervisor/commander was a douchebag. In my rebuttal, I said "yes, I exercised my first ammendment rights" and it was reinstated. Words are very scary to some of them

mussentuchit

Come see the violence inherit in the system!! Help Help I'm being oppressed!!

endsr189

Bloody Peasant!

WVEers89

Wonder if a tweet praising the government for allowing the Supreme Court to fucking slaughter pigs would get the same result

doubleXmedium

Wonder if a tweet threatening to bomb abortion clinics would get the same response. Wonder if a post demanding the vandalism of BLM property would be "noticed". Wonder if threatening to attack the EPA would be given such scrutiny. I get why you're not allowed to yell fire in a movie theater, but if this is criminal, some of the comments and requests made by Trump on Jan 6th should absolutely constitute inciting as well. Freedom of speech for me, but not for thee

HotRepresentative9

Yes this tis clear unequal application of the law. Queue images of recent environmental protests versus a certain "vaccine mandate" protest on the Hill.

Falc0nia

It was “pigs” that did it

SuperSMT

I wonder if it's more than just the one tweet itself. To go as far as to show up in person, they might track overall behavior of the account too

Slam_Burgerthroat

Or someone just reported it.

rimjob_steve

Should we all try it to see what happens?

shifty_boi

Sure, you go first

Primantieq

Funny how they can figure this out but couldn't catch the parkland shooter who posted YouTube comments stating what he wanted to do under his full name. Good stuff.

alinius

Well yeah, they threatened the government. You think they really care about protecting us peons?

Manusman123

It’s an AI that goes through tweets and flags suspicious ones. They don’t have a person sitting there reading millions of tweets a day.

TehG0vernment

> They don’t have a person sitting there reading millions of tweets a day. Like Reddit mods?

Speedythar

Of course not, that would be ludicrous. That’s a job for at least 3 people, maybe a fourth for snack runs.

Cthulhubot666

Nah the most shocking aspect is that they have the ability to do this but yet somehow miss the hundreds of posts school shooters have made, and now don't even try to stop it. But as soon as it's about government, immediately make contact.

frossenkjerte

Yeah really tells you where their priorities lie, huh?

Cepheidveryable

And yet no one in TX seemed to have picked up on the Uvalde shooter’s multiple posts and threats online prior to the massacre….

homietheclown

LOL. Law enforcement doesn't protect us, they're there to protect the ruling class FROM us.

NRMusicProject

At the same time, all of DC Pikachu faced on January 6th.

SleazierPolarBear

Some kid talks about shooting schools for a year and they never even look at it apparently.

Urban_FinnAm

This! You can bet there are plenty of rich, influential folks who've said as much or more on Social Platforms, and never even gotten a letter. But let an ordinary guy/girl vent on line; and watch how fast they end up on a terrorist watchlist. Who's taxes get audited the most? Which demographic does most of the tax fraud? Systematic intimidation of ordinary people.

CrumpetsElite

This is the article A federal agent and two police officers showed up to a North Texas woman’s house on Thursday morning warning her to stop threatening the government on Twitter after she posted in anger over the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The feds’ letter to Madeline Walker of Garland came after she tweeted about burning government buildings on the day the Supreme Court handed down its decision. Using expletives, Walker tweeted, “Burn every ... government building down right ... now. Slaughter them all,” in reply to video in which President Joe Biden urged protestors to remain peaceful. As of noon on July 1, Walker’s original post — which landed her a warning letter from the feds — had 8 retweets and 31 likes. She has since deleted both her posts. Less than a week later, two police officers and a Department of Homeland Security special agent showed up at her door Thursday morning with the warning letter. “You are advised as of the date of this letter to cease and desist in any conduct deemed harassing/threatening in nature, when communicating to or about the federal government,” the letter said. “Failure to comply with this request could result in the filing of criminal charges.” Joshua Henry, a special agent for DHS, confirmed the letter’s authenticity and said it was delivered at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Robert Sperling, director of communication for the Federal Protective Service, also confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that the letter posted on Twitter was delivered. Walker could not be reached for comment by The Dallas Morning News. But in an interview with the website Jezebel, she said she did not intend for her words to be taken seriously and told agents she did not plan to burn down any buildings. “Obviously, I’m not trying to go to prison over this,” she told Jezebel. “There could’ve been a better way for me to go about it, actively going to protest or speaking out in public or things like that. I guess maybe Twitter wasn’t exactly the best idea to pull out the stops with.” On Thursday night, Walker posted the feds’ letter on Twitter. The tweet has since gone viral, prompting Walker to take her account private. “This was such a nice way to get woken up this morning. 4 cops banging on my door,” Walker wrote in the deleted tweet. “Reminding everyone that Pastor Dillon Awes of Stedfast Baptist Church in Fort Worth is allowed to preach that gay people should be ‘lined up against the wall and shot in the back of the head.’ when people reported him to the police they said, ‘free speech,’” Walker wrote, replying to her original post. “Uhhhh where was this energy before the Jan 6th insurrection!?” another user wrote. “Wouldn’t it be nice if they put this energy into monitoring and warning the white nationalists and misogynists who shoot up our schools, nightclubs, and places of worship?” another woman replied. Henry said Walker sharing the letter on Twitter could bring more trouble. “She’s kind of taking it as a joke,” Henry said. “She’s not remorseful about these statements, so that’ll be presented to a United States Attorney and they’ll make a decision on that.” When a reporter asked the Garland Police Department if their officers accompanied a federal agent to Walker’s house to deliver the letter, spokesman Pedro Barineau wrote in an email “since DHS confirmed they went out there, they will have all the details and will need to provide the information. We can’t speak about another agencies [sic] investigations."

The_real_bandito

The difference between the pastor and her is that the victim is the government vs a certain demographic. The US government don’t care about its people but the government itself.

man_of_pie

Isn't this covered by the first amendment? I do not think we should be committing violence on anyone for any reason, but speaking out expressing your anger about a decision made by an over powered group of mostly white men making decisions 70% of America disagree with is why the first amendment exists.

legandaryhon

So, ostensibly yes, but the supreme court has ruled that threats, slander, etc. are not covered, because they aren't expressing oneself but using language to affect your actions. (Using words as a weapon).

Mandena

Using their new (extremely shitty and nonsensical) logic the supreme court can't rule on that. They can only rule on the literal meaning of the text >Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Sounds like everything goes now in terms of speech! Fuck you Supreme Court!

man_of_pie

they will rule how ever they want and use what ever justification they need.

HamburgerEarmuff

I mean, the "fighting words" document has been narrowed to the point where it's meaningless. This could possibly fall under solicitation of murder, rioting, or arson or communicating a true criminal threat. The reason she was served instead of arrested is because it would be hard to prove her state of mind beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

OkRestaurant6180

"Fighting words" is not synonymous with calls for violence. These terms have specific criteria. It's not just whatever you want it to mean.

CroakyPoem

A call to action is not protected by the first ammendment. So saying "kill them all" could be seen as a call to action I guess.

[deleted]

Unless it’s “line up the gays and shoot them in the head” being put out on YouTube by some random pastor, huh?

CroakyPoem

Yeah idfk, I guess they made an actual effort cause it was directed at the government??? Fuck that pastor though.

Apart_End_411

So if I make a comment to raid the capital it would be fine right?

Detters_Actual

I also got the paywall pop up, but in reaaal light grey in the top left corner was "close" and it got rid of the paywall without signing up.

gahidus

Found it. She makes good points about the police apparently treating this tweet as more serious than an actual break-in at the Capitol.

OderusOrungus

Or the rampant incessant violent crime killing groups of people everyday in my area, even the rampant child abuse by the senders of this letter. Welcome to the police state, its a bad sign really. Govt are not your friends

Future tip for paywalls: use reader view right before the pay wall pops up or hit the x to stop the page from loading further.

gusfring88

If only they were this aggressive with white supremacists and school shooters.

JXizzors

That'd be friendly fire.

Techn0ght

In the military they call it "blue on blue". Very apropos.

z3r0c00l_

Blue on Blue because US/NATO/Ally forces are typically referred to as “BLUFOR”, and enemy forces as “OPFOR”, or “opposing force”.

BrattonCreedThoughts

I think they fear their own safety much much more than their citizens'. They only issued the warning letter because she was threatening to burn down government buildings. Her tweet got less than 50 retweets and likes in total, yet they were already so concerned.

exercisingbutts

Uvalde clearly proves this, they are only concerned with their safety, their salaries and their lives.

BeerDrinkinGreg

Considering the article mentioned a preacher who wasnt threatened with arrest after saying "gays should be lined up against a wall and be shot in the back of the head" it would be an interesting trial if she were charged with anything.

ChrisPnCrunchy

Probably wouldn’t be very interesting at all TBH The court would absolutely railroad her without a hint of self-awareness. Pigs don’t go after the preacher because they agree with him and they all vote republican—they’re same team. They don’t give a shit about the hypocrisy or double standard. If anything, they’re tickled pink by how much it infuriates all is plebs being ground beneath their heel.

benadunkcamberpatch

That’s the most polite, threatening letter I’ve I ever read.

MacsDildoBike

Especially if you read it in the style of Christoph Waltz.

It's kind of crazy to think about how many of these were handed out to Trump supporters threatening liberal politicians or election workers with bodily harm and death threats- https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/terrorized-us-election-workers-get-little-help-law-enforcement-2021-09-08/ Wait...

Banestar66

So they don’t have the “infrastructure” to find death threat phone calls to election workers or to catch the DNC/RNC pipe bomber but do have the infrastructure to enforce over a tweet no one saw?

psychopythonmetrist

Are you surprised? It’s always been rules for the left and no rules for the right.

SpiralGray

Which one is Statue 115? But seriously, I'm gonna have to start writing violent tweets. I want a letter from Homeland Security so I can frame it and hang it on the wall.

Grits_and_Honey

18 U.S. Code § 115 - Influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a Federal official by threatening or injuring a family member.

SpiralGray

I think you missed my point. I'm willing to admit I'm wrong if that's the case, but I'm pretty sure it's a Statute, not a Statue.

Grits_and_Honey

LOL. I didn't even see that in the original letter. I just read it in context without looking for errors. It is supposed to be "statute", they have a typo there. Brings potential doubt on the veracity, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were legitimately a typo from the government.

Rreterz

Yeah I doubted whether this was legitimate as well based on the typos and such. But it was apparently confirmed as real by a DHS agent. OP also provided this link in another comment, which has the story: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2022/07/01/feds-show-up-at-home-of-north-texas-woman-who-posted-angry-tweets-after-roe-decision/

[deleted]

It’s a typo _and_ a legal error. The “§” in “18 U.S.C. § 115” stands for “section,” not “statute” (and certainly not “statue”).

BootFlop

Dallas newspaper has confirmed it is real & was delivered by a pair of Feds AND a pair of local police, together.

DuntadaMan

It's DHS. They aren't exactly taking the best of the best. They get the rest.

harvest_poon

Statute and statue is like one of the most common spelling errors they tell you to look out for in law school. It’s right up there with public and pubic.

Meister_Retsiem

Just like Jesus would teach

insanelyphat

No love like Christian love...

UOLZEPHYR

DA POV: the difference here is the language used of: \> "Burn every government building down. Slaughter them all." The only reason you/they received a letter because of the mention of burning government and advocating violence \*against\* members of the US. Please understand I'm not condoning or attempting to speak for them. If the person had just been against a regular (non governmental) person they more than likely would not have sent any communication.

ronsinblush

I thought a threat was defined as alerting to a violent action ex.: “I am *going* to burn down every building..” etc.? Not some vague directive?

SKGwNRG

It can be a command, but it has to have a specific timeframe. Hypothetically, if this were to go to court, the legal arguments would be all about the inclusion of the words " right the fuck now".

dogsonclouds

I don’t think that’s particularly hypothetical anymore, unfortunately!. The DHS agent who confirmed the legitimacy of the letter also said that her tweeting the letter out made it seem very much like she doesn’t take it seriously and they plan to see what the prosecutor has to say about that. Yikes for OP ETA I am completely against the DHS here; I’m literally just sharing what they said! I don’t agree with them at all and think it’s some fucked authoritarian shit

RandomComputerFellow

I definitely think that she passed a line by tweeting this, still I think that tweeting the letter should definitely be protected by free speech. I think factual reports about government actions should never be used against you.

Flat_Editor_2737

What a twisted bit of authoritarian bullshit. The same federal government that didn't do shit about January 6th even though anyone with half a brain knew a riot was coming if you read 3 Twitter comments on any post about it. If this case was against anyone BUT the federal government the prosecutor/plantiff attorney would have ZERO shot at meeting the burden of proof. 'And if you tell anyone about it....things could get worse for you ' is textbook abuse. Id say this is the case people SHOULD want as public as the Johnny Depp trial so that you could see how fucking warped the government would have to be to win this case. Which is while it will have as much air time as the Epstein case.

BullToTheMoon

OP isn’t in prison yet this is just a cease and desist letter. They can send you one of these for any reason they deem appropriate

Maxx9393

Yeah, you gotta be smarter than that. This isn’t game of thrones lol. “Slaughter them all”. I understand the contempt though.

JPKtoxicwaste

In the article (it’s linked in an above comment, but i can’t link it cause guess I used my one viewing) she references a nearby pastor calling for gays to be lined up and shot, and nobody came banging on his door. I agree with you and I get the contempt too. Just wanted to mention

established82

not only did they not bang on his door, they justified it as "freedom of speech".

The_Waltesefalcon

He didn't direct his calls for violence towards the government, so why would the government care?

Pineappl3z

So if some of the gays were federal employees; he'd get a letter?

shpongleyes

I get online news outlets are struggling and want you to buy a subscription, but I would think they’d encourage people sharing their articles

mecausasui

i think you should send them a reply highlighting their inability to thwart and attempted coup and thank them for acknowledging your complaint regarding their failure to govern judiciously.

Old_Couple7257

If it was only an “attempted” coup. Does that not already mean it was thwarted?

SqueakSquawk4

It thwarted itself. The DoHS didn't stop it.

mecausasui

kinda. it seems as though it kinda fell apart more than having been thwarted. in my opinion

Puzzleheaded_Can4467

Lol yeah and they the time to track a random twitter account vs the ones that they have physically seen ..

Wablekablesh

Did all the fucksticks who said on public forums they were going to go to the capital and hang the VP get letters like this before they went to the capital and tried to do just that? I don't see any "imminent threat" here, which is the standard I was told was necessary to prosecute speech. Guess that only applies to one side?

ConditionSlow

>Did all the fucksticks who said on public forums they were going to go to the capital and hang the VP get letters like this the FBI actually did visit quite a few doors in the lead up to 1/6 but obviously it did jack fuckall
