With that cool glasses, I'm not sure if you mean rest in peace or rest in pain, but m'kay.

He really made a spectacle of himself.

The article claims he grew up in an orphanage, but his wikipedia entry states be was born to impoverished parents, not that one excludes the other however. Either way, starting from that, while growing up in times of fascism and war, and going all the way to become one of wealthiest men on the planet with a well recognized brand? Now that deserves some respect.

The Italian Wikipedia article says his father died before his birth and a few years later his mother gave him into some kind of orphanage school where he stayed until he finished middle school.

I hate how all 80% of eyewear brands are owned by one conglomerate and they artificially jack up prices of glasses in the west. I buy my glasses in Serbia where I pay 80€ per pair with a nice looking frame, yellow filter and everything included. While a basic pair of glasses in Austria cost a minimum of 200€ with pedophile frames and no filters whatsoever, it’s such a scummy practice that it’s cheaper for me to get a free eye exam in Austria and send the measurements back home and have the glasses shipped to me, that’s absolutely insane.

Please define "pedophile frames". I'm genuinely curious.

Eh, it's not like it's hard to find good-quality sunglasses much cheaper than Luxottica's ones even in the national markets where they dominate. Eyeglasses are a different story; Essilor really screwed with lens prices and it can be quite hard to find a shop that will sell you Eyeglasses with decently priced lenses. I've always found it interesting that Luxottica is more hated than Essilor. Of course now they're merged as one company and we can despise the whole thing...

Does this mean I can't wear my brand new Ray-Ban Aviator Folding Ultra - one of Ray-Ban's exclusive limited edition brands manufactured from pure titanium and 18K gold plating... manufactured from extremely strong anti-corrosive Titanium, its anti-UV lenses feature oleo hydrophobic coating for prevention of moisture residue and perfect color vision?

Ah the guy who's company made meh low quality cheap glasses for huge prices. The whole "made by brand name" industry was basically owned by him and it became a scam more or less. NEVER BUY Luxottica made glasses, you will get glasses that are usually worse then what you can buy at the supermarket for 10 euros.(not even joking, my fraind is still pissed of that my glasses are better)

That's an argument to avoid the fashion, designer and jewelry industries entirely. Meanwhile, brand name marketing is stronger than ever. Also, no supermarket sells prescription glasses, only very generic ones that are not best suited for most people that need glasses. Sunglasses are generic anyway, unless you want prescription ones.

I am not talking about prescription but rather fashion stuff, fashion glasses are a scam. Also I wouldn't buy prescription from luxottica ether but I would buy them from a reputable brand.(after doing my research ofc) Also the reason my frainds ray ban glasses are shit next to my "supermarket not specials" is simple, his and mine eyes hurt in the sun when using the 110 euro ray bans but not using the 10 euro supermarket ones.

Everything brand name or fashion or designer is a "scam". You are paying extra for perceived value created by marketing, scarcity and uniqueness. If those things don't resonate with you, you do not gain proportional value, ie it's a scam. For others, particularly those with disposable income, a need to stand out or keep up with the Joneses, it's not. To each their own. It more seems that either your friend bought the wrong pair of glasses for their needs or you don't understand what they are used for. Walking around in the darkness all day is not good for you, and no pair is meant for staring at the sun all day. Depending on where you live and what you use them for you might choose different darkness level, particularly for prescription sunglasses. Such multitude of choices is usually unavailable from supermarkets.

> You are paying extra for perceived value created by marketing, scarcity and uniqueness. I do believe there is a deeply engrained that price correlates with quality. People don't buy just stickers. There are people who do that: that buy knock-offs but we perceive then as lesser. People do believe that these companies created their brand name through their utterly superior quality. And because of that quality they can charge a premium. But a lot of times that's simply not the case

Any relation to Lavern Del Vecciho?

Fun fact: Despite Ray-Ben being a main sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari, its Team Principal Mattia Binotto wears Ginsberg glasses giving his iconic clown🤡 look
