Hey all.

It's about time that those who get early access for the book's contents are able to see things - I'm not so lucky (or have enough patience for it), so this is the table of contents and the disclaimer for Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, as presented by D&D Beyond.

The names of the items in Appendix B are listed in D&D Beyond's item catalog, and are listed here (new items, only):

PM_ME_UR_POLDERS

Are their any changes for the Netherese ring of protection from the normal one?

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

I'm sure there are, but what that may be, I've no idea. If you bought the Digital + Physical bundle for the book, you got early access for 2 weeks on the digital version, and (I assume) that you could get the information from there. I just pre-ordered the digital version, so I don't have the access to tell you, sorry.

ludvigleth

Maybe it's +2 instead?

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

Maybe! Maybe it's cursed. c:

Sasakibe

Character creation. Character background. And character transformation sounds intriguing.

ludvigleth

Especially the transformation part!

Sasakibe

Agreed!

https://imgur.io/a/mlwraUV Here you go. This is the information on that and that the magic items.

TholaminSongsteel

Are Chapters 1 through 4 just Lost Mines?

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

That it is, as advertised! The rest of the book is the new stuff that was made to go along with Lost Mines. The rest of the book after chapter 4 should take players up to level 12. From what I know, they reworded some stuff for Lost Mines to be less "First Timer Friendly" than it was back in 2014.

TholaminSongsteel

Daaamn! That'll be a nostalgic journey, happy that they included it in the book, so you won't need to have the Starter Set, hyped!

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

Yup yup! ...not gonna lie, I though you were gonna complain that they were reprinting old content.

TholaminSongsteel

Naaah, I remembered that they mentioned something about using Lost Mines but wasn't sure if it was going to be printed in the book. If it is a continuation of some sort, makes sense for it to be reprinted.

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

True true! Part of me wonders if they were gonna do away with XP leveling from the original adventure - a lot of recent stuff has been milestone-based, and I MUCH prefer that over having to keep track of XP totals.

TholaminSongsteel

Same here, for me, XP leveling leads to the group just focusing on searching for things to kill so they can have their XP.

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

That, and I don't wanna have to look up XP thresholds for anything player-based. Murderhobos have no place in any game.

Icarus_Miniatures

I took a look through this quickly today and my first impressions were really positive. I can't speak to the quality of the story, but the information presentation looks a lot better than what we've seen from WotC in a lot of their other books. Each chapter starts with a summary of the events of that chapter, some advice on running that chapter, information on expected player level, and there's a story progress tracker at the back. Seems (on a surface skim at least) to be fairly GM-friendly when it comes to running the adventure, which is nice.

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

Oh, good to hear! I'm gonna have to wait until it officially comes out, so this is something to look forward to. c:

Forsaken_Temple

Hopefully handy enough to make more players transform to DMs.

Darkwynters

What are the new backgrounds?

Kitchen_Beautiful_76

That, I sadly don't know. Sorry, bean.

Darkwynters

It’s okay I saw one video with a page through… it looks pretty good. He skipped the transformation… I think page 13-15… are there rules for players changing? EDIT: ah you did not get a copy of the book. Gotcha :p
