100% we gotta start opening the checkbook if this team is ever gonna be anything. We have consistently shown that we cannot draft ourselves a complete team, so might as well try playing the free agent game to start contending
Big question is what are price adjustments for highest income and property taxes in the US in a smaller market? That’s a rough game to play as well. Agreed money needs to be spent somehow.
Bratt stopped playing in a final play of the game down a goal in the zone to help hedman up after he fell on his own, there’s literally nothing to cry about
On the lightning broadcast, they showed an angle from the glass that showed Bratt stopping immediately once hedman fell and offer a hand, which hedman ignored, so Bratt got back in the play
This mf comes here and tells this subreddit to take the L.
Bruh, we're are in a decade of pain. Taking the L is the only consistent thing about this team.
O.k., so a familiar type of game.
Devils overall played well against a very good team.
But...a handful of terrible mistakes and goaltending issues cost them the game.
Depends on how many a 'handful' is, I guess. But yeah, it was a handful of boneheaded plays, as in five or six that were the difference tonight.
And that is who the Devils are this year--a team that is capable of playing good teams MOSTLY pretty well...except for that consistent handful of terrible mistakes that give opponents AAA scoring chances.
Gillies had some good saves on good chances by TB.
But...all three TB goals were on failures to control rebounds.
Not saying Gillies was terrible. But it wasn't great either. Great goaltending probably gets the Devils at least a point tonight. Not really blaming Gillies. But, the goaltending differential was a factor in the outcome tonight.
I’d say three attackers being left all alone in front of our goalie, who saved every single first shot he faced tonight, was the difference. Get the team to defend every man and maybe we win by one.
Oh for sure the Devils need to be better at getting a body on guys down low. That has been a problem a lot lately. But that does not mean that Gillies failure to control the rebounds was not an issue.
I don't want to be too hard on Gillies. He did make a lot of great saves. But watch the replays on the three TB goals. I am sure Gillies would admit that he'd like to control those rebounds that lead to TB goals better.
I think it can be true that he needs to work on his rebounds and also we would have won this game had the defense defended, like at all.
Even on the goal when gillies glitched, he saved the first shot, but we had three defenders on the other guy and none on the puck carrier
Devils work their asses off to get a tying goal then the other team takes advantage of sloppy play and instantly get the go ahead goal. Sound familiar?
Thank god they didn’t know about goalie injuries at the start of the season and didn’t force their injured goalies to play instead of looking for a real option to fill a void
severson coasting toward the net instead of busting his ass full speed to cirelli... how is that not your first instinct as an 8 year vet i will never understand
Devils are...not really that bad. They generate shots. But...they just have too many boneheaded mistakes and are not going to get anything above 'acceptable' goaltending this year.
Not a good period.
Both TB goals are a direct result of Devils mistakes: (1) a TB power-play goal on a senseless high stick Devils penalty, and (2) a shortie on a Devils 4 minute (!) power play where TB got several odd-man rushes due to sloppiness in Devis passing in the neutral zone, a penalty shot, and the Devils got lower quality scoring chance than TB.
Not being able to shoot well is pretty much as bad as our goaltending this year. We get chances and great looks, we play well enough but still can't finish nearly the amount we need
Not only do we continue to do the pass back PP breakout (which I normally wouldn’t mind with a team that doesn’t turn it over, but we continue to turn it over), but the coaches don’t seem to make the connection, and then when we recover, we put all 3 of our players on a player crashing the net and leave the shooter alone to grab his own rebound.
You can’t make this up.
Refs didn't give the call bc it kinda seemed like he was trying to draw the call instead of score a goal. Trouble is there's no rule in the book that justifies that call.
Why are we surprised about this PP. It's been like this all year. We have a GREAT PP, the next PP ALWAYS results in a SHG.
For the record I'm not exaggerating, it's happened 6 times this year. I've counted
And...a second time terrible play moving through the neutral zone results in TB goal. Devils poor passing on outlets and through the neutral zone is a huge part of the Devils poor play all year.
I just realized that Kucherov's best season is better than Jagr's best season...how the fuck does Tampa have such a jacked up team?
In points, maybe. Jagrs best season>almost everyone else's best season
Jagr had 149 points in 95-96...
Incredible drafting
Stevie Yzerman got the ball rolling for them. And current GM kept it rolling.
We deserved more tonight. That's not always the case, but we deserved at least one point

Can’t say I’m shocked
he toepicked and then started crying? that guy is literaly a teddy bear- no respect since he crotch shot nico
Oh shut the fuck up hedman
Bratt even went over with complete class and gave him a pat for it.
Bratt stopped playing in a final play of the game down a goal in the zone to help hedman up after he fell on his own, there’s literally nothing to cry about
Wellllllll, truth on Hedmans part, but Bratt was just skating around and didn’t go to help him up until after. At least form my rewind.
On the lightning broadcast, they showed an angle from the glass that showed Bratt stopping immediately once hedman fell and offer a hand, which hedman ignored, so Bratt got back in the play
Ah well that sucks

Lol a lightning fan.

/r/devils in shambles
Get bent.
What kind of low life goes to another team’s sub to troll?
Which is why I always say that the *block user* function is a beautiful thing.
Seems to be a constant thing with him going by his post history
Tampa fans always been kinda weird and whiny
the self awareness is astounding
bah, bastian should have passed to nico

Goaltending did not cost us this game

I agree with that.
The glove miss was pretty bad, but other than that Gillies had a great game.
what is the big baby whining about
Vasy with the clutchest poke check ever
zero finesse- given that godly opportunity and we flub it tragic
NOOOO NATE
NICO WAS WIDE OPEN
no deserve in hockey ya get what ya get- we get shit
Holy shit fire Lindy
Why is every shot a rising shot that's gonna miss high
whats with forcing the stretch pass - just get it in the zone
Devils work their asses off to get a tying goal then the other team takes advantage of sloppy play and instantly get the go ahead goal. Sound familiar?
Thank god they didn’t know about goalie injuries at the start of the season and didn’t force their injured goalies to play instead of looking for a real option to fill a void
Dump the puck and pull the goalie. Saw that a lot last year.
Empty netter incoming
Is this a penalty kill? What's going on
Brodeur going to play for the Blues definitely put some kind of curse on this team
Nico is back to being pushed around and falling over ez
Please don’t pull gills
Bratt 1 glove bway goal woulda been legendary
We’ve held the other team under 3 goals once in the past 18 games…….. yike
Yeah the last time was bluejackets on January 5
Ty hasn’t been perfect tonight but he’s been playing with a lot more urgency tonight
We have a goaltender curse
Seems like the lightning get away with clutch grab and accosting
there's always a leagues darling. was the pens for many years, lately it seems like its Tampa.
Tatar got absolutely manhandled there.
We have given up 3 goals at least 30 times this season. 4 or more. Wtf is fitz doing?
I know we have goalie issues but the last 7 games we have let up 3 or more goals a game. That’s not a winning formula.
We have the worst goaltending in the league. Statistically....
True. I was just pointing out a fact I just checked.
Past three games have looked like there is absolutely no team chemistry besides Shango bratt and Hughes
What kind of shitty team let’s go of leads instantly and just set record for multiple goals scored in the first 15 whatever seconds of a period.
severson coasting toward the net instead of busting his ass full speed to cirelli... how is that not your first instinct as an 8 year vet i will never understand
That was not on sevo. He had his guy. Hughes didn’t go after the empty guy
It’s okay, just means Jack and Bratt will get more points when we tie it up
LOL at that post in here a month ago saying we weren't that far off from making the playoffs. This sub is insane.
Bro we’re only like 20 points out =D
Well...at that moment it was true...
evenly played game 😂 if you want to put it that way you can but its not true
tank commander
Weak backcheck by Hughes and Sevo there
I mean, that's pretty terrible goaltending. All he had to do was stay in the net and it's an easy save.
Gillies control your rebounds wtf?!
He used all of his good goalie powers in the first period :/
Has Gillies been terrible? No. But all three TB goals are rebounds that he did not control.
All three rebounds would’ve been easy handles if a defender was anywhere near the man on net
Also true.
I think they would’ve learned by now….
Come on man, stop letting a guy get up in gillies’ face. He’s been playing lights out getting zero help
Where is everyone?
This team is such garbage
"Oh boy." Dano 2022
That didn’t take long.
fuckin pick up a man, MAN.
jacks defensive zone positions seems to have taken a considerable step back… hes just floating there half the time
Hughes really does need to work on his defense. He was just coasting there.
Pain
ew what a gross goal horn
Fuckin shit this goal song makes me wish I were deaf
It’s expected. It’s been this all season. Regardless of the opponent
Hello darkness my old friend
🤦♂️
no resistance at all, they just go right in
Well. That didn’t last long.
Man, that was too easy for TB
Hughes Bratt aaaaaand Severson have literally been the only players to get points for us the last 3 games (tonight included) 😂 I just double checked
Damn it! Graves doesn’t nearly have the stick for that shot at that tight handling angle.
Gotta be careful now, they’re gonna get pissed. They’ve been beating the shit out of us and now have nothing to show for it
lmao it always blows my mind that 63 is the same guy that got benched for not producing earlier this season
Graves waited a fraction too long. Just one time it!
That Jack go brrrraaat
Watching Hughes and Bratt is so fun. If we lose but Hughes and Bratt play well I take it as a win
You’re in for a treat usually.
Jack looks great with the A
Jack and Bratt :))))))))))))))
BrattJack and JackBratt. Brackjatt!
Hughes and bratt are literally the whole offense
Bratt and Hughes have the ability to terrorize this league for years to come!
LIL JIZZY BACK AT IT
bratt ppg now our money gone
HUUUUUUGHES
JACK HUGHES AND JESPER BRATT ARE SO FUCKING GOOD
That's how you do it!
jackyyytt
WHO BUT HUGHES+BRATT
TB is good at getting the Devils to carry the puck into the zone along the board
What I would give for a sergachev…
nico looks god awful tn
He has a broken foot
Hey PK, maybe in a game filled with odd man rushes against us, don’t step too far up lol
Foote and Kuokkanen going at it Vasy: *yawns*
Once Jack’s line learns how to finish more than one of its million chances/game it’s over for y’all
"We'll be good again soon"(me now and in 2015)
seems like the refs aren't going to call something on Tampa unless it involves a sawed off shotgun.
Does a tb fan in the first row have his dental business name on the back of his jersey?
If Tatar wanted to ever score at a meaningful time in a game that’d be nice
What does Tatar actually do?
that wasnt played well, not dangerous enough of a chance
Shots are actually almost even
Devils are...not really that bad. They generate shots. But...they just have too many boneheaded mistakes and are not going to get anything above 'acceptable' goaltending this year.
The problem is one goalie is a fucking Vezina winner, the other one occasionally short circuits
Haha I mean last month Gilles was literally playing in the echl and some how found his way to be our number 1
So Mercer is living with Geersten and they have a dog.
Come again? I missed that intermissions interview. Is this true?
Why can I not imagine geertsen and mercer living together
How does Tampa get to ice so many star caliber players and were arguing whether we can afford our leading scorer with a 7 or 8 year contract
TB has $0 of cap space. They could face a cap crunch in the off season. Devils will have lots of cap space in the off season.
Just started watching now. How the fuck didn’t Gillies see that rebound??
Someone pulled his controller
Not a good period. Both TB goals are a direct result of Devils mistakes: (1) a TB power-play goal on a senseless high stick Devils penalty, and (2) a shortie on a Devils 4 minute (!) power play where TB got several odd-man rushes due to sloppiness in Devis passing in the neutral zone, a penalty shot, and the Devils got lower quality scoring chance than TB.
For those wondering, that makes 7 shorthanded goals against for the devils this year. Worst in the NHL. For those that weren't wondering, sorry
I feel like they all owe each other money with all these buddy passes they love to give each other.
#goalsforgillies
i expected 4 against, we only gave up 2! Guys, i think were getting better!
On the Tampa broadcast: “That’s not a penalty, he had his hands together” *shows an angle where it’s clearly crosschecking*
At this point we’re better off not being on the PP after that disaster.
I vaguely remember Schwab
Shit PP is still shit regardless of the shooting bender they’ve been on.
Not being able to shoot well is pretty much as bad as our goaltending this year. We get chances and great looks, we play well enough but still can't finish nearly the amount we need

You can’t make this up.
I have a feeling we’re gonna lose this 4-2
No call?
SIR! Where’s _OUR_ penalty shot?
No penalty shot ok
They’re really playing the body now shit
?
Dude. Just skate to the net. Faked himself put
Refs didn't give the call bc it kinda seemed like he was trying to draw the call instead of score a goal. Trouble is there's no rule in the book that justifies that call.
Getting outscored on a 4-minute PP despite having stopped a penalty shot is pretty much the last 10 years
Love to see Jack getting fed at the end of that powerplay
That was some of our best special teams play I’ve seen all season
Us going from our best pp of the year to the worst(? There’s been so many bad ones) in the same game is comical
A double minor and not only do we not score, but we give them FOUR odd rushes, a penalty shot, and a short handed.
Is that good
If you're a Tampa Bay fan yes
No it’s bad
My guess is that breaks us and we lose 6 - 1
If Jack ever learns how to aim a slapshot, it's over for you mofos.
Jack? The whole team. We miss the net on 60% of our shots
Nico struggling this game..
It's generally a coin flip so yeah
„ɥɐǝʎ os dılɟ uıoɔ ɐ ʎllɐɹǝuǝƃ s,ʇI„
Wwwhhheeeeeeee
So...four minute penalty play and TB gets the better chances than the Devils.
ayy bratt lets just dip mid shift cool cool cool
He stays there he has a shot for a 1T or at least keeping possession
yeah bizzare
Couldn't possibly be tired... he just stood at the circle the whole time
The lightning had the first 6 shots on our PP LOL WHAT
Jack with the cup check on bastian
Why are we surprised about this PP. It's been like this all year. We have a GREAT PP, the next PP ALWAYS results in a SHG. For the record I'm not exaggerating, it's happened 6 times this year. I've counted
STOP TURNING IT OVER
christ nico make a good pass
And...a second time terrible play moving through the neutral zone results in TB goal. Devils poor passing on outlets and through the neutral zone is a huge part of the Devils poor play all year.
Is it me or devils don’t know where the puck is half the time?
It’s you. I’m tracking 80% of the time.
gillies fucking lags out of course
