I spent weeks making this doll for my neice and everyone says it's super creepy, which really hurts my feelings. So I was wondering how you guys would recommend fixing it? The eyes are fabric glued on and not coming off.

If you add a smiley mouth, I think it’ll look cute. You can see some examples here: https://www.lilleliis.com/amigurumi-how-to-stitch-mouth/ Edit: also, it’s not creepy and those people aren’t very nice 😠

corgimay

So inconsiderate! 😠I would love receiving this if someone made it for me.

kitttgonewild

I agree! And the clothes can be changed

corgimay

That’s amazing :) keep up the good work and don’t let those meanies’ words get to you.

LovelyLu78

She's cute! I agree that eyelashes tend to add to the cute factor. What about some blush on her cheeks? You can just use make-up blush and add faint little spots

kitttgonewild

Good idea!

ewsherbert

maybe changing the mouth or adding some stitch work around the eyes to show lashes?

kitttgonewild

I'll probably do lashes to see how that helps

Use-username

You could add a smiley mouth and maybe add some eyelashes. Also maybe add a fringe of hair on the forehead because the current hair seems to be quite far back.

kitttgonewild

It's the way I sewed it one I had to make a cap and then sew it to the head, it was my first time doing it so it's uneven and too tight

booklesbian

This is very cute and mildly wonky, but its much better than my first attempt at a doll. I would definitely add a cute smiley mouth and move the nose up a little. Eyelashes and eyebrows could also help. I think the reason people find it "creepy" is the lack of facial features. For future reference I'd put the eyes closer together, but as you said those bad boys arent moving. If this is for a child, just know they will love it even if its wonky just because you made it. My friends have kept very old beginner teddy bears and dolls I've made that look super creepy and weird, but they have them on display just because it's a gift that I made them. Do not beat yourself up over one project. Every project is a learning experience, and all projects deserve love because of how much time and effort you put into it

kitttgonewild

Thank you for the kind words! I guess all that matters is she likes it!

Metallica265

What about changing the color of yarn for the mouth?

kitttgonewild

It's a nose :( that was written in the pattern to do

tellmort-yourmove

I would consider crocheting a different nose, maybe? Like just 2 hdc and that's all you may need and giving her a mouth and I agree with the other comments about the eyelashes. I know you've put a lot of work into this doll. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt.

kitttgonewild

It's okay it's just my first time making a doll so I was really happy with it but the more I see it the more I hate it :( which sucks.

tellmort-yourmove

Yeah, that does suck, but just remember you'll only improve.

kitttgonewild

That's the awesome thing about crochet!

aburns678

Maybe stitch on some eyelashes or brows!

kitttgonewild

I was thinking of doing a mouth but there's not much room, I'll try eyelashes though!

aburns678

You could do a tiny little mouth and exaggerated eye lashes try drawing on the picture of it on your phone to play around with it! You could also add some tiny bangs or wisps of hair. Whatever you do it was made with love so screw the haters!

kitttgonewild

How would I add wisp of hair? I like the idea but I don't know how

aburns678

I would do it with a thread needle, possibly? I am more of an idea person, Less on the execution 😂 I just know that as a human with a large forehead bangs are my friend. But from a quick google search there seems to be some tutorials on YouTube!!

kitttgonewild

I'm the same way! I'll try to find some!

somuchyarn10

Take some yarn in the same color as the hair, use a crochet hook to attach it to the front of the hair in a sort of knot. Letting the ends hang over the forehead. Then use scissors to cut it to the length you want. You could also use tiny barrettes to hold it back.

kitttgonewild

So like how you do fringe on a rug?

somuchyarn10

Exactly.

vivikush

Just buy her a copy of [Little Big Planet](https://littlebigplanet.playstation.com/) to go with it and then she'll love it.

JeniJ1

Personally I think it's the mouth/neck area I'd change. Could you alter the shape to make it more rounded? Aware it might be too late for this. I think the eyes are great. More importantly: does your niece like it? Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks :)

kitttgonewild

She hasn't seen it yet, it's a surprise!

JeniJ1

Ah fair enough. How old is she?

kitttgonewild

Around 4

JeniJ1

In that case, chances are she'll love it whether you make any changes or not :)

MoDaddy4middle

Eyes a little bit closer together. Smiley face. And possibly a cute little nose. If you want to keep the nose you already have on there, change the direction of the yarn to run vertical instead of horizontal.

kitttgonewild

Good idea! I wish I could move the eyes but I already glued them on

MoDaddy4middle

Hmmm. If you have not used some really good glue and can get the eyes off of the doll without damaging it, maybe you could cover up the previous glue with some eyelashes or ??? Hope this helps...

flamingcrepes

I agree with the mouth and eyelashes suggestions here. I also think you could probably bring the hair a little bit further down the forehead, [at the bottom shows how.](http://www.cinnamonpurl.com/how-to-amigurumi-hair/) eta- instructions are an easy way to add on now. Most importantly, she isn’t creepy. It hurts my heart that people would say that to you. You love your niece, and she’s lucky to have you!!

CuriousDolll

I think it’s cute! I love special crocheted items like this 🥰 also you can use a pink marker to give it rosey cheeks like blush

turtletortoisetoad

I think eyebrows and eyelashes, or maybe even eyelids kind of like the dolls on this page?: https://amvabecrochet.com/teri-crews-designs-crochet-designer/ I would give her a smile too. :)

A_Rocky_whore

Not going to lie, it really is the placement of the eyes that does it for me. They look slightly off in this picture and just not in a human spot at all and it's getting into the uncanny valley.

kitttgonewild

The pattern I followed had them like that but I accidently used a bigger hook so the head was bulbous. I tried putting them in a few spots but that's the only one that works

flowingsecrets

I’m sorry I have no advice, I’m new at this and haven’t even considered making anything 3D, just wanted to say that it doesn’t look creepy at all! You shouldn’t hate it I think it’s really good! The stitching is great and you should be proud of this. I’m sorry your feelings were hurt:(

jondarane

Hm I like her. doesn't look creepy to me, maybe a bit sad. try out the ideas you get with samples that you hold where you want them and look how it looks to you. You did a great job! don't worry too much probably your niece likes the doll the way it is, kids are fun this way especially at that age

snessanie

I think it's great! It looks so well made! All of my first little experiments came out a little wonky and crooked and I just thought it added to charm. But if you want to make a change, I'd suggest adding hair - I know what you mean with having made a cap, in the past, my caps end up bigger than the head and they look wrinkly and weird, but you can add bangs strand by strand to the hairline - and remove as you see fit, too. Other options: maybe some eyelids (like stitch around the top half of the eyes in the same colour as the skin), and then just gently experiment: do you like eyelashes? Blush, a mouth? Things that you can gently stitch (or pin) on and then remove if you don't like them.

IsayIdo

She's not creepy.

sulkysheepy

You can add white yarn to the outside/underside of the eyes. I think eyelashes and eyebrows will help too, maybe blush. I’d look on YouTube for how to make hair and use one of those tutorials to make bangs. Usually it’s something like - attach yarn at hair line, chain however long you want it, then hdc or sc up that chain back to the hairline and repeat for more hair strands. Something like [this](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mermaid-princess-amigurumi). As a side note - she’s inside out. You can tell because of all the horizontal lines/dashes. The front of sc usually just looks like a bunch of Xs or Vs. ETA: Just realized this was old. Sorry. I was searching for dolls.

I think a little white thread under or above the eyes will soften the eyes. Along with eyelashes and eyebrows if you choose. A simple mouth would be a good idea too. A simple pink v shape for the mouth gives it a pouty look. But I think she’s super cute as she is so forget about mean people. 😉
