At this point, the whole drama is this year’s DC Fandome.

Dragon_yum

Maybe the real Fandome was the movies we canceled along the way.

AGOTFAN

WB/DC drama is usually more riveting than most of their films

El_Gato93

They seriously need to release a documentary about WB and all the drama they’ve had the past decade

breakfastbenedict

Kyle Buchanan needs to write the oral history book just like he did with Mad Max.

PeculiarPangolinMan

> to write the oral history book Isn't that an oxymoron or am I missing something? An oral history isn't written.

breakfastbenedict

It just means a book that’s like a bunch of people’s interviews and not written with the author’s takes.

PeculiarPangolinMan

Ooooo. Thanks!

horseren0ir

Going all the way back to superman III

Krimreaper1

There’s a book coming out on the history of DC films, and they asked for some shots from Zack Snyder’s Justice League and was told there is only one cut of the film, the theatrical cut.

ReservoirDog316

I actually am looking forward to that. There’s gonna be such great books and documentaries made about this era.

Puzzled-Journalist-4

Someone needs to make a docu series about the whole ZSJL bts drama including fake accounts controversy. It has the most interesting story than any movies they had ever done.

uberduger

> including fake accounts controversy The rag that first made that nonsense claim had more bot followers, per TwitterAudit.com, than the big Release The Snyder Cut account. So make of that what you will.

breakfastbenedict

Most interesting tidbit: "As it stands, only one new DC feature project currently has a greenlight post-merger: “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024." "Several other DC properties have been in development as feature films, some for years — “Wonder Woman 3” (with Patty Jenkins directing), “Superman” (with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing), “Zatanna” (with Emerald Fennell writing) and “Static Shock” (with Michael B. Jordan producing) — but there haven’t been any substantive updates on these films since news of them first broke. (A spokesperson for Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story.)"

Aragorn120

Batman 2 doesn’t have a green light?

lefromageetlesvers

no, surprisingly, and according to reports, the movie is years and years away....

Sckathian

I get it was a bit of a passion project but wtf are WB greenlighting a reboot of their biggest DC IP and not locking in options?

Dragon_yum

Guess they want to see how many times they can reboot Batman and still get away with it.

PugsyBogues

Batman 2 got greenlit for the script. Now the script needs to be completed before it can be greenlit for production etc

horseren0ir

Isn’t there like a dozen other movies in development?

ToddPolt

I would LOL if Berlanti becomes the DC boss since hacks defended Batgirl being canned for being too CWish

PointOfFingers

I think they should lock in James Wan to help guide the franchise since he has had so many hits and started so many horror franchises. He showed with Fast Seven and Aquaman that he can do big budget movies. He is a writer, director and producer. Saw, Conjuring, Insidious.

blueblurz94

DC Films in chaos AGAIN, Marvel Studios being called out for trading quality for quantity, what a weird time this is.

breakfastbenedict

was DC films ever not in chaos though?

TheJoshider10

Those pre-BVS days were full of hope and optimism.

Umeshpunk

Now it's cope and pessimism

AnotherJasonOnReddit

Even afterwards, there was still hope for the non-Snyder stuff. Then Suicide Squad happened.

blueblurz94

Edited

Umeshpunk

I hope Netflix or hbo max picks up the documentary for this shit show. A 5 episode mini series like Chernobyl will be amazing

breakfastbenedict

HBO is developing a miniseries with Sam Mendes about the making of a superhero movie... I'm sure there will be quite a few meta references to Josstice League.

SPorterBridges

> Both Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips are believed to be getting $20 million paydays, and new costar Lady Gaga is getting $10 million. Cue thinkpieces about underpaid multimillionaire women actors! > By directly citing Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios as a model for DC’s future in the earnings call, Zaslav threw more fuel onto an already raging rumor mill over who could get the job. One example: Greg Berlanti, who oversees many of DC’s television properties, has been loudly whispered as a possibility for the role Get Berlanti as far away as possible from that job. Far, far away. > whereas live-action DC shows “Titans” and “Doom Patrol” are also said to be on the chopping block — but no definitive announcements have been made. Oh shit.

monstere316

> but no one from Warner Bros. has actually approached his camp, Berlanti has not pursued the job, and insiders believe that the superstar producer wouldn’t be interested in going in-house.

singachu

For a perspective on how big of a sequel Folie a Deux is: Todd, Joaquin and Gaga's salary alone is almost the production budget of the first film!

Laserblaster

I thought DC has good TV shows Harley Quinn, Peacemaker, Doom patrol are all good The CW stuff is corny, but it definitely drew viewers

russwriter67

It drew a good amount of viewers three or four years ago. Outside of Flash and Superman & Lois, the CW shows struggle to crack 1M viewers per episode.

AGOTFAN

>Get Berlanti as far away as possible from that job. Far, far away. Are you saying CW shows are not quality and theatrical?

russwriter67

Aside from “Superman & Lois” recently, yes!

LittleRudiger

It's why I groan when people say "They should've got Grant Gustin to star in the Flash movie!" Ezra Miller should be gone. But the answer isn't to get a basic cable actor to headline a two hundred million dollar picture. Like, the last thing you want to do is remind people who are spending money to buy a ticket of CW series.

ReservoirDog316

The average internet commenter has an incredible lack of imagination with these things. It’s why fan casting is usually the most basic choices you can get.

russwriter67

Who would you pick to replace Ezra? Who would be a good choice?

LittleRudiger

I unno. There's no shortage of affable white 20-30 something male actors in Hollywood.

singachu

would WB break the internet if they casts Andrew Garfield as Barry Allen and Anthony Starr as Thawne?

DisneyDreams7

Chris Pine would have made the perfect Flash. He was totally wasted and miscast in Wonder Woman to distract that Gal Gadot is such a bad actor.

AGOTFAN

Agreed.

Sisiwakanamaru

I don't think Greg Berlanti is pursuing the job.

LordFlameBoy

The problem I find with Hamada’s plan is that we never saw it, neither on screen (there has been a complete lack of connectivity between DCEU projects in recent years) nor was it unveiled to us. Marvel do a great job of outlining the future of their cinematic universe and where it’s heading. DC has been so reluctant to do this, yet is would do wonders for them.

rov124

> neither on screen (there has been a complete lack of connectivity between DCEU projects in recent years) nor was it unveiled to us. We all know what happened the last time they unveiled a DCEU plan ahead of time.

Puzzled-Journalist-4

But having no plan was also the blessing to them. If they had a proper plan, there would have been zero chance for a film like *Joker*. *The Batman* as well.

pokemonisok

There was no plan. He didn't have a plan. Zaslov realized that when he came in. Now they're mad hes actually trying to recreate a cohesive franchise again

ReservoirDog316

Yeah it’s not even being funny. There was no plan besides just hiring people and letting them do what they wanted. It had good results creatively more often than not, but there was no plan. I honestly don’t think they need an interconnected outline throughout all the characters though since it stifles creativity (you seriously can’t make something like The Batman if it had to connect to Green Lantern and Batmite, meaning interconnected universes hurts more than it helps), but that’s controversial I guess.

Sisiwakanamaru

Sometimes, I found these Hamada approaches pretty interesting & provided good contrast to Disney MCUs plans

breakfastbenedict

Hamada's plan was to not have a plan.

Umeshpunk

Wrong, he had 12% of a plan.

breakfastbenedict

*LAUGHS LIKE ROCKET*

singachu

correct me if Im wrong, but isn't Hamada's plan to is to establish Keaton's Bruce Wayne as the Nick Fury-ish figure coming out of Flashpoint, and that will usher in the new DCEU reboot with Batgirl, Supergirl and WW leading the pack

LinkSwitch23

The behind the scenes shit is better than the movies

SamaritanPrime

Marvel caught them flat-footed nearly 15 years ago with *Iron Man*, and Warner Bros. & DC have been desperately trying to catch up ever since. All they have to do is *stop*, take a deep breath, and announce a restart. Sit down with some of the big writers. Go through all the stories. Which ones can they pull from? Which can they put in reserve to pull from later? What’s the endgame? As for a place to start, I have one: Superman. Remember that Superman is both immensely powerful and immensely compassionate. The same man who can land a falling plane through sheer strength should also be able to tall suicidal people out of jumping off roofs. Give us a Superman that cares, and we’re off to the races.

pokemonisok

Old leadership doing everything they can to win the PR battle and keep their jobs

ritualaesthetic

So when are we getting Nymphomaniac Vol 3?

Top_Seaweed_1037

Those weren't Warner Bros. movies, were they?

and_dont_blink

Jenkins needs to go after the WW84 abomination, even if that means recasting. At the very least she can't have the kind of control she had with that film, which is hard for people to give up and will just lead to more drama. I actively resent the money and time, it was straight back to 90s schumacher "Let's prove I don't really understand any of this" territory. Zatanna looks like it was heading straight into CW/Stargirl territory ala Madame Web. Nobody wants it, but they have the IP and was happening and without some kind of amazing performance like Venom would just be more ehh. The only one I'm a little bummed about is Static Shock. I'm not a massive fan, but he's more street level and if done right could be awesome and inject a freshness that's missing. Hopefully that gets retooled in a way that fits and works.

ReservoirDog316

Zatanna by way of Emerald Fennell would definitely be amazing and was not aiming at CW territory since she’s a literal Oscar winner and she was writing it to be “dark and scary.” She even wrote the good season of Killing Eve (season 2 > season 1) too. I seriously think they should bend over backwards to keep Emerald Fennell in the DC building.

uberduger

> At the very least she can't have the kind of control she had with that film, which is hard for people to give up and will just lead to more drama. Ironically I'm pretty sure it was Geoff Johns' involvement that made that film terrible, and she just took the fall for it. GJ is fantastically talented in respect of comics. But for some reason when he gets near a film, it turns out like Green Lantern, Josstice League, or WW84. He did the rewrite script pages for Suicide Squad 2016, and the reshot bits are noticeably worse than the rest of the movie.

MGD109

>Zatanna looks like it was heading straight into CW/Stargirl territory ala Madame Web. Nobody wants it, Speak for yourself. I've been hoping for this for so long. Zatanna is so unlike every other hero we've ever gotten onscreen. Plus introducing her could open up the doors to the entire DC Occult world down the line.

El_Gato93

Hey Stargirl is actually good tho

and_dont_blink

Won't speak to that, but the ratings aren't. It has an OK debut, then ratings dropped by 40% after that to where it was moved from CW to DC Universe. CW had a window where lower-rated shows were making them gobs of money due to netflix and others being desperate for content, but that's kind of done.

JasonLamar444

This endless "news" is defintely a ploy to get people interested in dc again...

breakfastbenedict

they're paying ezra to commit crimes for the clout!

TheRealClose

Yea they definitely wrote off a couple $60-90m movies just as a marketing ploy… Couldn’t be any other reason…

JasonLamar444

do you know alan horn?

nickl00

do you?

LazarusRising22

Yes endless NEGATIVE news about WB and DC is a ploy to increase interest.

sudevsen

As someone who's exhausted by the endless Marvel content tsunami,I wish DC stopped aping Marvel and did their own thing. I really enjoyed the variety of DC movies far more than Marvel. Every Marvel mocoe felt like the same overly.CGI quipfest while Joker,Aquaman and a Snyder movie all felt distinct in style and scope.

Umeshpunk

You lost me at Aquaman, it was a Marvel movie by all means 😄

sudevsen

Sure and it along with Suicide Squad 2 are the only DC movie that resembles Marvel tone, unlike the MCU where all of them have the same exact tone with slight variation. Although I find Aquaman to have a lot of Power Rangers and globe-trotting adventure vibes as well. Its more bombastic and over the top than most MCU movies that focus on q superhero.

Umeshpunk

If DC can get their shit together, i would absolutely enjoy both studios movies.

sudevsen

I like both of them but I'm not looking forward to DC trying to ape the MCU concept. They already tried once with Snyderverse and failed. Worst case scenario being that every DC and MCU movie becoming yje sane generic quipfest for the next 50 years. The MCU cannot make a RDK or Logan or Spiderverse because of the nature of CUs being marshall by 1 guy.

Umeshpunk

>The MCU cannot make a RDK or Logan or Spiderverse because of the nature of CUs being marshall by 1 guy. DC cannot make infinity war or endgame. We already have spider verse, thanks to NWH

sudevsen

But why would I want IW/EG if I already got it and gonna get Avengers 4 and 5 next? I dont want MCU to rehash IW/EG either. Unless its going for something totally different in style and tome. Plus DC already made their crossover mega teamup JL and JLU animated shows ages back and it still rocks. Copying Marvel means that its gonna be MCU-but-worse or exactly-the-MCU and we already have the a LOT of MCU. I would prefer more of stuff that don't follow the MCU like Logan/Spiderverse/TDK/Joker. Fuck even Snyder Cut was alteast different and unique in its own way.

SherKhanMD

>DC cannot make infinity war or endgame. Wow, how unfortunate for them. Those 2 movies are the pinnacle of cinema. Marvel fanboys are just sad ...

Umeshpunk

Oh no, Anyway

korevil

This Zaslav guy is starting to sound like a dick.

lostpawn13

WB needs to clean house with DC and get rid of Hamada too. He’s a part of the problem, the majority of his DC projects have been bombs. Cancel everything and have a fresh start. They also need to streamline how they work on their properties so the releases can be more strategic.

redbullrebel

what i find incredible is that you have 80+ years of comic book stories in your fault and warner cant make shit happen. really unbelievable if you think about it. but what i do not understand how they screw up superman so much. just get superman to a different planet. with new enemies, not lois lane again give him a new love. just get him from earth. he is way to overpowered to make him believable on planet earth. when i saw batman vs superman it felt like watching prey. you try to level the power level. but it clearly does not work to make it believable .

MGD109

They might actually making a Zatanna movie? Alright! I've been hoping for that for years now.

1defense

Wow ppl stopped watching their countless shit projects , who woulda guessed it
