Picturing Cole and Boone in the clubhouse after getting ejected trying to remember the Apple TV password to watch the rest of the game

twec21

Well that got a spit take out of me

phrique

"fuck, I need iTunes too?"

BaltimoreBadger23

Lol!

upandb

Boone got tossed, too

TrapperJean

I'd like to think all he said was "he's right though" super calmly right before that haha

swamppuppy7043

“Excuse me blue, I apologize for his conduct you were within your rights to toss him but I just wanted to add that you are, in fact, blind as a fucking bat.”

797java

Respectfully.

swamppuppy7043

lol “with all due respect of course”

icecreambandit7

Ricky that doesn’t mean you get to say whatever you want to say to me Sure as heck does! It’s in the Geneva convention, look it up!

797java

Your honor, I'm not saying he's a bad umpire and blind, I'm respectfully pointing out that he couldn't even find his own ass with a flashlight, guided instructions and a map, much less a strike zone with his own judgement.

swamppuppy7043

Lol I never pulled off anything that eloquent but I did get tossed a few times in high school for asking similarly well-tempered questions. Got tossed once on a full count for just turning and staring at the umpire after a pitch halfway into the lefty box. Many umps don’t audibly call obvious balls and he took my stand as showing him up (correctly). In my first plate appearance I led off the game and had that exact scenario happen. After like two seconds I took it to mean obvious ball 4 and tossed my shin/elbow guard and started running to first only for the dude to yell out “striiiiiiiikeeee three.” He stared me into the dugout like I had showed him up running out of the box before the call and I just resolved to not let it happen again. Apparently waiting for the call wasn’t appreciated either 😂. Assuming the ump is not blind -> jail. Assuming the ump might be blind -> jail.

AhLibLibLib

“I’m not questioning your eyesight Brian. I’m denying it’s existence.”

Texan_Tiger817

“YOU’RE GONE TOO”

E51838

Reminds me of a soccer game I played in in high school. Kid on the other team got mad he was called for a foul and yells to the referee “that call was fucking bullshit!! Sir.” Immediate red card but it was hilarious.

BillBelichicksHoody

except didn't the broadcast go back and the pitch was a ball?? so he wasn't right. and this by no means endorses the ump who was missing calls all night, just in this case the pitch cole was angry about was legit.

NotNiceMan24

Jomboy breakdown incoming.

fxxftw

LETSGOOOO

adventurepony

LETSGOOOO whooo LETSGOOOOO *double whooos

MeatTornado25

THAT'S HORSE SHIT

Avbjj

Boone THROWS HIS GUM

NukaNukaNuka111

SUDDENLY JOMBOY’S FACE APPEARS INSIDE OF BOONE’S MOUTH, GIVING A SHOUT OUT TO ROMAN.

Inocain

This and Cora at the 8th inning or whenever when he was like "Wow. Wow." I fully expected Cora was going to get himself run too.

p8nt_junkie

Play of the game for Boone.

robshot295

What else is new?

MeetLawrence

Boone just got the hook too, with Knight saying "Get away from me!"

LesserOfTwoWeevils13

What a prissy little turtle.

DeemsMemes

Uploaded this so fast holy shit

JanitorOfSanDiego

practicing for #61

Sea_Elk1964

Ump was off all night... shit was bonkers.

CaptainCraig92

That strike three call in the 9th made me feel bad about winning that game

purplegreenredblue

I hate that feeling, when the umps so bad it makes a win feel tainted

Brady331

Kermit, don't swear! Think of the children!

Macandme

Everytime I hear his voice I just can't believe it's real

stereotypicalginger

The children are starving this season

Jimalo69

The red sox never win games anymore thus not feeding the children

Brady331

:(

Bradcam3

Man the fuck up Cole.

swamppuppy7043

Ehh waiting until your start is over to sound off is relatively reasonable. If he’d lost control and gotten tossed in the 3rd that’d be selfish and childish. What’s the harm in letting the umpire know how you feel when it can’t hurt your team?

amatom27

Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like he likes to bitch a lot

ThreeStringKa-Tet

Mad about giving up the 3 run shot, takes it out on the ump. Kinda what he does.

amatom27

The one where he bitched about the game starting like 1 min late kinda irked me. Like dude, come on bruh lol

NYBulldog

that was opening day lol

MrsPuffSmashedMyFoot

People ain’t gonna like this. But if Kobe had bitched about a game starting late, it would’ve been put in a highlight reel about his competitiveness

zamend229

Same would be said for Cole if he wasn’t giving up the most HRs in the league lol

I_Nut_In_Butts

Yeah and if Gerrit Cole was at all comparable to Kobe Bryant, people might say the same lol

Jimalo69

Yeah cole isnt a rapist

I_Nut_In_Butts

LMAO you got me there

J3DI_M1ND_TR1CKS

It wasn’t one minute. It was delayed 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

tartestfart

na i think hes mad about walking devers when 2 pitches in the same spot got different calls back to back

fadetoblack1004

I think he says "That's fucking 5." implying either 5 strikes or 5 outs.

ThermosbyThermas

I know the umpires in the league can have some soft egos but my god so can these players

NevermoreSEA

Cole isn't known for his ability to handle intense situations.

Takonoumi

I think he'd be better off if he took a lesson from the Paul O'Neill school of destroying a Gatorade cooler when you're mad about something that happens on the field and then moving on instead of letting it get to him.

Joshduman

See, I remember Sean Rodriguez beating up that Gatorade cooler in 2015.

BillBelichicksHoody

*baby back bitch

St_SiRUS

Behaves like he’s got a hand up his ass

robshot295

You sound totally sane to me

Brucedx3

He likes to give it, but he hates taking it. Source, I was friends with him in high school.

AhLibLibLib

Tbf he’s a pitcher not a catcher

conker1264

He’s a manchild, honestly glad he’s gone

TheDukeofVanCity

Well you can afford to be glad hes gone with your stacked rotation

conker1264

Yeah Framber is definitely a great Cole replacement

[deleted]

I’ll never forget the end of the 2019 World Series when that titty baby pulled that shit with the hat.

SirDinkleDink

Yep, couldn't stand his attitude when he was with us. Never seemed like he was into being part of the team.

conker1264

He definitely wasn’t, he literally switched to his agents hat the second we lost the World Series

bikemonkey40

That Boras Corp hat when hitting free agency literally minutes after losing the World Series was so fucking funny. I'd also be pissed if I was an Astros fan.

TourrrettesGuy

To be fair he probably knew about the Astros cheating at the time. Fuck the astros

MegaManXanax

Well he was also cheating. Also lied when he said he didn’t know about them cheating. And when asked about spider tack.

TourrrettesGuy

They were all cheaters on that blessed day

Hufflepuff_Baseball

That’s because instead of bringing him in to give you the title (he was still automatic because of the tack and beard) Hinch decided to roll with Will Harris. It’s not what I would’ve done, (the hat), but I get it

shotty293

That shit pissed me off so much.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Is there a reason he’s even mad? Like a justified reason or just mad he keeps giving up home runs?

jackhole91

He's mad that a pitch that was just out of the zone wasn't called strike 3 right before

Rob3125

After judge got called for it multiple times

MelissaMiranti

Maybe after he wins the Triple Crown he'll use his wish to change what the umps think his zone is.

Claeyt

He's going to go back in the clubhouse and watch it with the lines and realize it was just outside and a good call. It wasn't like it was down the middle.

blueshirtfan41

The pitch before was sorta borderline and called a ball. Though to be fair the ump was calling it a ball all night.

tartestfart

i think hes mad about the walk to devers. back to back pitches in the same spot. first one was a strike, second walked him with 2 outs. i dont think the ump is terrible but that was pretty inconsistent

FeloniousDrunk101

I saw that happen and was thought the same thing. Cole probably pitched ball four exactly there because the previous one was a strike.

ssteel91

He has? He’s called a few of those strikes (including against Judge) and a few balls. This dude has has an atrocious strike zone and quite inconsistent which is annoying as fuck for a pitcher. That being said, gotta not throw your 5th fastball in a row directly down the middle right after and pick yourself up.

Oceanhippo1

It wasn’t a strike though. It was clearly low.

ssteel91

I think his issue is that it was called a strike at times tonight. This ump has been atrocious and incredibly inconsistent. Still gotta pick yourself up there though.

Thomas_Pizza

According to a couple of pitch trackers it was actually *very* close, but still just barely low. I wouldn't call it "clearly low" though, it's really close. [Somebody posted this video](https://streamable.com/7wsk42) which shows the pitch Cole was (presumably) mad about, and shows him even starting to walk back to the dugout because it would have been strike 3 ending the inning. Instead it was a ball and Verdugo homered on the very next pitch (a fastball pretty much right down the middle). According to the strike zone on the live AppleTV+ broadcast (or whatever they call it) you can see in that video that they show the pitch was just slightly low, and [MLB's gameday tracker also shows it as just *barely* low.](https://i.imgur.com/4HjltjA.png)

BigBlackSabbathFlag

Has "framing a pitch" always been catching the ball and moving your glove to the center of the strike zone as fast as possible? I thought the art of framing had a lot less glove movement. Not a catcher, so if someone can educate me on this.

Freeze__

When framing you’re taught to move your glove into the zone as you catch it so it looks like you had to come into the strike zone to catch it The guys that are bad at it catch and then pull the ball into the zone

DickySchmidt33

It wasn't even borderline.

Thomas_Pizza

[Pitch 4 here (the pitch in question) is extremely borderline,](https://i.imgur.com/4HjltjA.png) and is low by like a centimeter. It's very very close, certainly "borderline," but it just barely missed the strike zone. I mean it was only ball 2 (and it was, in fact, a ball), it's not like it ran the count full. Cole should be a lot more angry at himself than the umpire, since he (Cole) is the one who threw the very next pitch basically right down the middle and Verdugo clobbered it.

Feisty-Cockroach-104

all he has to do is not throw it right down main street

God_Boner

The only consistent thing this ump has been all night is inconsistent

Yankeeknickfan

He keeps giving up runs despite there being like 3 pitchers in baseball with better stuff than him Dude doesn’t understand what’s going on

upandb

He thought he had strike 3 on Verdugo, but the pitch was called a ball. Verdugo then hit a 3 run homer.

xXxDickBonerz69xXx

So fuckin sick of this guy. Step up or shut up.

Yankeeknickfan

And do what?

ClearSights

Keep his cool

hungovercyclist

Man! The fuck up, Cole.

DASSSSSA

Remember cole literally crying about not being able to cheat anymore? Pepperidge farms remembers

Andujar4CF

The ump literally yelled at him

saylormouth

At 103 pitches. Not like he was going back in. Best to speak your mind

Hochseeflotte

Don’t give up over a homer a game you fuck

throatbutterz

He's lucky if he only gives up one.

swamppuppy7043

Honestly impressive his era and other numbers are as good as they are considering.

morelikeaaronfudge

His SIERA and expected stats say he's been better than that ERA and those home runs suggest. I do think he's being a bitch here. But he is a work horse.

swamppuppy7043

Oh I know man he’s a beast I fucking hate facing him. Honestly I might be in the minority but I don’t have anything against the guy. His attitude seems pretty most of the time. In the whole him vs Bauer saga it was hard to know what exactly was good between the two of them but now we know at a minimum Cole wasn’t doing whatever the fuck we’re going to call the shit Bauer was doing.

morelikeaaronfudge

Hes honestly got a good attitude most of the time but people are going to hate on him. He's probably a giant douche but there's some really terrible people in sports who get way less shit.

Andujar4CF

Cole and Bauer hated each other from back at their days at UCLA, so Bauer constantly singled him out during his crusade against sticky substance. With all the stuff thats come out about Bauer, I’m gonna trust Cole had good reasons to hate him.

wokenupbybacon

While Cole has a case here - the amount of low balls called strikes on the scorecard tomorrow will be telling - this just... isn't a good look. You've dealt with inconsistent umps your whole life, the middle middle fastball is still on you.

MeatTornado25

> the middle middle fastball is still on you. As were the last 2 men he let on base in the first place. We would've been fine with a solo homer, just would've been annoying. But as soon as he brought the tying man to the plate, we knew what was about to happen.

BaltimoreBadger23

Every time a call is missed we act like umps haven't been inconsistent for 140 years. It's an impossible job to do perfectly yet we somehow demand perfection (while hitters get millions for getting a hit 30% of the time)

garlicrainbow

Your name and flair confuse me.

BaltimoreBadger23

I'm from Wisconsin (the Badgers) but I live in Baltimore. If they let us have two flairs, the O's would be there.

kungfoojesus

Crazy take. Umps are better recently than they ever have been. But our ability to measure their performance has massively increased.

LiteratureNearby

It's the same in all fields of life. Technology and social !edia has just raised expectations of quality a bit too much. Perfectionism is the antithesis of fun

BaltimoreBadger23

If by crazy you mean 100% accurate, yes , a crazy take.

God_Boner

This is a terrible analogy

Commercial-Rub-6552

To each their own. I love this look on Cole. It’s a leader and a winner mentality.

heff17

I generally dislike the term ‘rent free’, but the numerous examples of Cole melting down facing the Sox lead to no other conclusion.

sonofabutch

I think half the home runs he’s given up this year have been to you guys, so he’s a bit peeved.

PENGUIN_WITH_BAZOOKA

They just discussed this on the radio broadcast and I think Suzyn said it was 13 of 30 or something like that

AL3XD

When he found out that he was adopted and Rafael Devers is actually his father, it probably really bothered him

heff17

Devers can’t be a dad, he’s 9 years old.

kkronc

Man he's already 9? Guess he has been in the league for a few years now hasn't he

LiteratureNearby

The amount of gum in his mouth sure make it look like a 9 y.o. just stole all the gum he could and is hiding it hamster style lol

xXxDickBonerz69xXx

He melts down over everything against anyone

BroncosandBarbells

He melts down facing himself

DymonBak

Yeah, the ump sucks. Pretty inconsistent. But the pitch he’s mad about didn’t touch the zone.

swamppuppy7043

Honestly, it seems like he’s probably just blowing off all the pent up steam from the game knowing his night was over anyway. In that context “fuck Brian!” seems understandable.

Mikeandthe

Is it really "fighting for your guy" when he's going to get pulled anyway, and gets the boot before you?

[deleted]

It’s not about the game situation. It’s about the respect in the clubhouse. The players like to know the manager has their back

swamppuppy7043

And the theory that giving a guy enough hell about shitty calls might influence him to second guess his garbage calls.

jackhole91

Maybe work on not giving up 30+ homers a start before bitching about borderline pitches Jesus i just saw the replay too and it was a fucking ball anyway, he's such a whiny baby

Commercial-Rub-6552

Maybe lose the Yankee flair if you’re gonna talk shit about the Yankees on r/baseball without having a clue. If you watched the game you’d have seen that pitch called a strike on Yankee batters repeatedly before this. Including Judge.

jackhole91

Sorry that you can't handle somebody talking poorly about your favorite baseball team but yeah I'm gonna give the $300M pitcher shit when his ERA is 3.5, he gives up nearly 2+ homers a start and he gets rattled whenever anything doesn't happen to go exactly how he wanted it. Hopefully he does his job in the postseason but he hasn't inspired much confidence, especially seeing as he's had nonsense like this happening since opening day

The-Pharcyde

Cole throwing a tantrum? Noooo waaaayyyy

AL3XD

IDK man, maybe don't groove a fastball right down the dick?

WhatImMike

If this was any other pitcher, like Scherzer, you guys would be eating it up.

toxichart

If it was strike called a ball and then the following pitch was a homerun, I'd be all for it. But it was a ball, plain in simple. And followed it up by throwing a 100 mph meatball a few inches from middle/middle. Cole was a whiney bitch in this instance.

jimboslicedu

They’d be on their knees for daddy scherzer

jmr098

This sub always says they hate the ump show but this reaction has everyone clutching their pearls? Really???

Andujar4CF

Cole bad

[deleted]

[удалено]

BaltimoreBadger23

That was after Cole immediately said "Fuck [inaudible] Brian" and I'm guessing the inaudible part was "you". That's a spot where I wish there was more penalty to an ejection than a guy who was leaving the game anyway getting tossed.

tartestfart

umps already dont have any accountability, the least they can do is get yelled at every now and then 🤷‍♂️

pardonmyMFthang

the pitch he wanted was low despite the ump missing others during the night Cole is honestly insufferable tho. He is a child

gamedemon24

Good for Cole, Knight has been in the clouds tonight

Brysamo

True but he did not cause that HR.

gamedemon24

I don’t really care what led up to it, if an ump is being a dickhead all night then it’s nice to see them get bitched at

BaltimoreBadger23

It's amazing that you think they are trying to be bad.

gamedemon24

Even more wild to see people defending shite umps

BaltimoreBadger23

Did I defend any calls? No, I just said they, like pitchers who serve up meatballs down the middle, aren't trying to be bad.

gamedemon24

Okay, and did I say they were trying to be bad? No, so here we are

BaltimoreBadger23

>if an ump is being a dickhead all night

gamedemon24

Thanks for bringing my receipts for me lol

Fyne_

who cares what they're "trying" to do lol what matters is what actually happens, i don't care if you have a lower strike zone just call it every time then

BaltimoreBadger23

It's almost like they are human beings.

Ok_Consequence_666

Don’t call them that

NoSleepTill-Brooklyn

I don't think the ump is trying to be a dickhead lol Umpiring is incredibly difficult. See the same borderline pitch 20 times and you won't call it the same every time even if you're trying to have a consistent zone. Take it up with the MLB for not implementing robo umps yet if that's your point of view, not the individual umps

[deleted]

Yeah but this guy has been really bad all night both ways. The zone changes every inning

gamedemon24

“Exactly” ~ CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez

ellivretaw1

This is an awful look for Cole lol. He conveniently waited to bitch out the ump after he let up a game tying 3 run homer.

gamedemon24

No it’s not lol

ellivretaw1

Yes it absolutely is. You’re being a homer.

SubElitePerformance

What was your opinion on Sherzers antics? Just curious 🤷🏻‍♂️

gamedemon24

Nah

Yankeeknickfan

CC sabathia did this once

AL3XD

Oh for Pete's sake

swormer

Did the ump yell something prior to Cole's outburst?? I think he did, if so he should face some punishment himself!!

pizan

Yes, you can see it at 0:25 in the video. Cole was walking off the mound and doesn't say anything until the ump starts it.

Ballsacthazar

watch the start again, and then watch from 0:25. you hear the "FUCK, BRIAN!" before he takes the mask off, Cole started it

[deleted]

for some reason all the qualities in cole that annoy other people just make me love him

Invasivetoast

I agree, nothing wrong with showing emotion. I'm sure everyone that has pitched past Highschool has had a meltdown or two. I know I've had my fairshare lol. You think about your start all week then fuck it up, go back to the dugout slam your glove start screaming obscenities then by next inning your back to a normal person. Pitching will turn the nicest guys into maniacs for 3 hours every 5 days. I think most people on reddit just don't understand cause they haven't been there.

rBaseballSoCorny

I love Cole lmao

BPAfreeWaters

Cole just mad his sticky stuff isn't what it used to be. What a bitch

term3186

So is it like a thing for the Yankees to by such whiny assholes? Do they lead the league in ejections for arguing balls/strikes when they LEAD THE LEAGUE in umpire favor percentage and are second behind the Diamondbacks for total umpire favor? And it was properly called a ball too.

Oceanhippo1

Fuck him. It was clearly low. What a bitch.

ScyllaGeek

These clips are always more funny to me when the guy getting worked up is totally wrong about his own spot lmI

ArtVandelaySZN

Guy seems really angry lately since they banned spider tac.

Not_Smrt

I've never liked Cole he always seemed like such an insufferable aashole. He might be a really cool guy, but it sure doesn't show.

johnnyavocadoseed

Ridiculous. You've been getting that low offspeed pitch all night. You gave up a homerun, take responsibility for that. Now you got yourself thrown out and it puts your team in a weird spot. So disrespectful, take responsibility for your own pitching

jaykell6ix

What’s the weird spot he put the team in?

Yankeeknickfan

His team isn’t a in a weird spot, he was coming out of the game which is why he lashed out

JuicySealz

Not a great look

Forsaken-Cake6122

He’s the biggest baby in baseball

tintwistedgrills90

Cole has no one to be angry at but himself. The pitch was legitimately a ball and then he grooved a fastball down the middle of the plate the next pitch.

blueknightgoldknight

Ughhh Gerrit you're having a subpar year bub. Get ur shit together for postseason let's go for a quick Ayahuasca trip c'mon.

sporkemon

red sox radio announcer said the sox live rent free in cole's head and he's right

Sickpup831

This makes no sense. He’s literally pitching to the Red Sox, I sure hope he’s thinking about them.

menusettingsgeneral

He was mad about a close pitch that didn’t go his way, but it was definitely not a strike. He had no reason to get on Brian Knight.

[deleted]

This ump has been horrible both ways all night. That same pitch had been called a strike several times before. Hill had a few high strikes called early and then the ump stopped calling it. The zone just keeps changing

Drnedsnickers2

What a hot headed twit. I look forward to this ability to meltdown amidst any adversity in the playoffs.

BaltimoreBadger23

Adversity (unless you are saying he's also a racist - but I don't think you are). Unfortunately for you, it seems it's mainly the Red Sox he melts down against.

jaykell6ix

This thread is about Gerrit Cole not Alek Manoah.

Drnedsnickers2

Yeah, remember when Manoah started out of the dugout to start something…and then didn’t…oh right that was Cole too. Cole’s almost as embarrassing as Donaldson.

jaykell6ix

You’re right Manoah is just a level headed guy that never tries to start anything, my mistake

mcpawski

Boone got tossed too and was arguing on camera but on Apple you only find out about that after the break.

i_liek_mudkipz

I misread the caption as Gerrit Cole tosses home plate at umpire and was highly disappointed when I watched the video

Hochseeflotte

I’m so fucking sick of Cole man. I have defended him this whole year but I just can’t anymore. Learn to fucking pitch you asshole. Maybe if you didn’t just pump fastballs all day you would be good

tableTennisRocks

This is a bad take. His fastball is elite and regardless, he has three other great pitches.
