Ohtani hits home run #44!
By - Blazingbee98
Ohtani giving run support to Ohtani
"Fine, I'll do it myself." - Ohtani
He is not fairly balanced, tho. Thanos would hate him.
He'll give up 6 ERs himself?
Yeah, it did age poorly hahaha
Fuck it I do it myself - Russ
Ohtani gave up 6 runs, 9 hits in 3.1 innings oof
Kurt Suzuki is a bum
Yes!!! How you going to get catchers interference in the MLB?
He did not have his stuff. But but bad defensive errors hurt him too. Angels game.
Who needs Jobu when you have Johtani?
He actually did say that during interviews before lol
I remember him saying how he wants to and likes batting when he’s pitching so he can help himself out pitching as a batter.
Since then I just imagine Shohei Ohtani patting himself in the back after he pitches and bats.
“Good job Shohei. Great outing.”
“Thanks Ohtani san. Thank you for the run support!”
"Is that how we take the lead, Shohei?"
"Yes it is, Other Shohei. Yes it is."
Mike… Mike… MIKE… MIIIIKKKEEEE!
This is getting out of hand, now there are—-oh wait no it’s the same guy.
shame the game hasn't gone well in the meantime ):
Yeah the Angels are getting curb stomped. Ran Ohtani out of the game easy enough.
well of course you're happy cause your team is winning!
Well duh...Never expected this batting practice game we having for sure.
Fuck it! We'll do it live!
3 away from tying the Angels single season record in home runs!
As the Angels finish below .500
The Full Season Tungsten Arming
We are all tungsten arms this blessed season
speak for yourself
I am all tungsten arms this blessed season
The ol Reddit tungsteroo
To be fair it's largely Ohtani's fault they lost today's game.
What does that have to do with his point lol, he's put an all-time legendary season on a team that has given him pretty much zero support
the defense and suzuki's pitch calling didn't help either
Sad but true. also astros are pretty damn good.
Imagine having Trout for a decade and Ohtani about to beat whatever’s he’s hit. Obviously Trout still a legend tho, but its just crazy to me lol
The thing with trout that makes him the best player is that he is good at everything. He is not a homerun hitter he is just a very good hitter that gets HRs while doing it.
Trout has never been about chasing the home runs.
Most his injuries seem like freak events. He hasn’t really had any “break of body” injuries
Wouldn’t those injuries be the freak injuries?
Sorry I think I left out down. Breakdown of body injuries. Him tweaking his finger on a slide on a his only other serious injury.
wow i thought it was gonna be trout, it was troy glaus in 2000.
Yeah Trout’s highest is ~only~ 45 but he also played just 134 games that season.
And he’s never gonna play that many games a season again the way his body is deteriorating every year
is the Angels health staff just bad or something? i fear for Ohtani’s future if Trout is already deteriorating
Already? He’s 30 and this is his 9th major league season. He’s deteriorating right on schedule
DO THAT WADE MILEY!!!!!
How many no-hitters does Ohtani have this year? Hmm?
Ohtani: sees Salvy and Vladdy catching up
He needed those rest days
Ohtani at Salvy and Vladdy: "Oh, so you're approaching me?"
He's pitching btw
not on that plate appearance he wasn’t
if you look closely you can clearly see a bat in his hands
He’s just pitching the ball from the home plate with his bat
Well he missed the strike zone then
I’m sad now ):
So he's giving up first inning home runs to the MVP? Not a good sign.
How did his pitching go?
With this sub you wouldn’t know unless it was good
Well who wants to post a “Shohei sucked at pitching tonight” post?
Astro fans, probably
I know angels fans don’t 😂
Great til the Angels defence shit the bed in the 3rd
First left-handed home run Valdez has surrendered this year
Only the second of his career too
I’d rather him give it up to Ohtani than someone like Jarrod Dyson
Before this game, Ohtani was also slugging 49 points higher against LHP than against RHP, ain't a better lefty HR hitter to give one up to.
just gave up another
I live in Houston and got removed from my sports buddy group chat right after Ohtani hit this.
I bet they'd welcome you back now.
I need him to keep the HR crown this year for the sake of trivia forever.
He's he answer to a lot of trivia
Most TB by a pitcher in a season
Most HRs too
Gotta check SBs and RBI
Has any other pitcher been intentionally walked? I'm assuming Ohtani has.
Only 28 others in history, most recent being Jim Kaat 1970
He heard some people talking nonsense shit the last few weeks and decided it’s time to shut them up.
Edit: He definitely was struggling as a batter post ASG but he was pitching tremendously to make up for it.
I had to look up his splits. Didn't realize there was such a gap between first half and second half. Power numbers and average are both way down. Everything else is pretty close.
is his obp at least similar?
.362 first half
.342 second half
so not a huge dropoff
He at least had a partially functioning Rendon and a good Walsh to protect him in the first half. He lost Rendon, Walsh hasn't had a good second half, and basically Phil Gosselin as his protection in the second half.
Angels, as a team.

Also, in game 137, the Angels starting lineup, without Ohtani, was Fletcher, Gosselin, Mayfield, Adell, Stassi, Marsh, Lagares, and Rengifo (Walsh out). Adell hit a homer that game. Rengifo and Lagares hit one in game 139. Adell hit another in game 140. Walsh hit one in game 141. That lineup has 40 home runs now, but was at 35 at the beginning of that game. Shohei was at 42 homers during that game.
And then you might say that his power-hitting teammates are out. Walsh was out that game (doesn't happen often), while Trout, Upton, and Rendon have missed decent chunks of the season. Basically, no one's coming to help.
Oh he’s not hitting well, I guess he’ll just pitch lights out. Nbd
Outside of Ohtani, Angels have been fielding a minor league lineup post-ASG. Doesn't help having no protection from Trout, Rendon, Walsh.
he'll hit another one tmrw. he's pretty good the day after pitching
Good of Ohtani to give run support to his pitcher.
He heard Wade Miley fans talking shit
And with this dinger, Shohei Ohtani now belongs to the immortals.
He has just broken Babe Ruth's 102 year old record of total bases by a pitcher.
Shohei Ohtani has raked more bases than any other player who pitched at least 10 innings in a season. Even with a threshold that low, he is still king.
He's the only player ever to pitch at least 10 innings while raking at least 288 bases. He's also the only to pitch 113 innings while raking 288.
Not even George Herman Ruth is the member of the 113IP/288 TB club.
We have all witnessed something that is 100% unreal.
lol that's nuts.
even if he only pitches for like 2 or 3 more seasons, he'll destroy the record books.
We'll see what happens
He bested Babe's single season record. But Babe is still ahead careerwise, obviously
In terms of pitching and hitting in the same season, one more season like this and Ohtani will be the best ever at that too.
From a POV
But I'll be monitoring if he can hit 714 HRs while pitching same amount of career innings Babe did
Well, he’s definitely not going to hit 714 HR, but he does have a shot at pitching more innings.
are you really gonna say that ohtani *can't* do something? will you mortals ever learn?
I'll believe it when I see it. And I really want to see it.
I mean, I hope he hits 800 HR, throws a perfect game, has 3000 Ks (pitching), the whole 9 yards, but everyone has their limits.
What I will say is that even if he retired tomorrow, he’s the most talented player of all time.
my comment was not serious in the slightest haha, he won't do any of those things
but yeah, I agree with you on the second part.
If he does surpass him in IP, then we won't compare him to him anymore, only to those with the same amount of IP or more
I’m not even a huge MLB fan but I’m super excited following him. To think we are witnessing an all time great season is really cool!
I love that I still get to hear Rich Waltz by watching Ohtani highlights
Was he well liked by Marlins fans? I’m liking him so far as our announcer
How many dingers has he hit this year while the starting pitcher? That's at least #2 but were there more?
I don’t recall more than that
I think this is his 10th
That was #3
So what, it's the most by anyone who pitched 100 innings
I'm not discounting the avchievement, I was literally just curious
He surpassed Ruth
I like turtles
There's this one vid where a dude attaches a gopro to a turtle, and it follows him swimming in the swamp
I think there's something wrong with your brain
You're the strange guy who commented about turtles in a baseball sub. Get help.
You missed the joke lmao
Get in lads we eating good tonight!
He’s not going to give up the HR lead so easily.
God he's so cool.
Barely even a flip. If Wade Miley had hit a home run he would have flipped that mfer to the cheap seats
He’s my hero
that honestly looked like the fastest homer I've ever seen. Is there statcast for that? Time from bat to landing?
I think the cast said it had an exit velo of 114 mph
You've obviously missed out on Springer & Altuve first pitch homers.
I turn the game on a few minutes late and am greeted by a Shohei bomb! I won't complain!
OHTANI HITS A HOME RUN!!!
^^^Angels ^^^lose ^^^in ^^^convincing ^^^fashion
Big Fly for Ohtani! Awesome!
Manly meat missile
That’s a piss missile if I’ve ever seen one.
I get physically delighted watching Shohei Ohtani hit. This man just doesn't
disappoint. You can almost hear him cheering "that almost got me!" as he
takes a ball 1. Two-strike counts don't faze him. Then he'll knock out a
laser beam on the 9th pitch. He's exhilarating. He's Shohei Ohtani.
I pride myself and think of myself as a fan of baseball, as there's a drive into deep right field by Ohtani and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 1-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to ever see a player this good again.
Do you want to apologize to the people that sign Ohtani's paycheck?
I feel like half of Ohtani's bombs this year are off leftys
I’m gonna be real, I haven’t followed baseball in a very long time. But I follow Shohei, and damn is it fun
Angels miss the playoffs!
MLB needs to make more Ohtani jerseys
american penis, so... so big
I am okay with this.
Imagine shohei on even an average team.
This guy is kinda good bro where’s he from?
One of his parents is Indian and the other is Japanese iirc, and he spent most of his career playing professionally in Japan before he got traded to the states
Edit; Indian as in dot not feather if that helps clarify sorry, nothing to do with my flair
[Yes, that famous Indian mother named Kayoko 🙄](https://i.imgur.com/u8LDPCe.jpg)
Genuinely wondering what's your intention here. Can't be joke or sarcasm
I am rooting for this guy so hard
That bat speed lmfao how
I thinks he might be pretty good at this baseball stuff
I love this man
Out of game already 3.1 inning got lit up for 6 runs tonight.
Mostly seeing eye singles and atrocious defense behind him.
Hey but he got the homerun...
Ohtani to Salvy:
Ohtani homer posts are the best part of my day.
Only a HR in 25 of 30 MLB parks
At what point do the Angels just DFA this scrub when he’s hitting such fraudulent “homeruns”???
That sounded amazing
Is that the lowest hr he’s had all year?
Only one short of Trout's career high!
My body has been waiting
A home run on a fastball? I was told he can’t hit fastballs
He hit the shit out of that ball. What was the exit velocity?
114mph exit velo
Didn't pitch great today but love to see the HR
So as someone who doesn’t follow baseball closely, how many is he on pace to hit this year?
depends on how hot he gets, percentages dont mean much. id say 52 max, 48 min
I've been reading this cool book about the history of Japanese baseball: "You Gotta Have Wa." But it was last updated in 2008, and all seems a bit like ancient history. Ohtani alone merits a sequel. So cool what's going on with Japanese baseball in the past 15 years. Maybe we will get a true World Series one day.
Imagine an army of Ohtanis. Just doing every position because they have to carry the team.
Jokes aside the dude is sorta good at baseball.
He sure is slowing down!
Greatest player of all time not sarcastic he will be
(…and the Angels are irrelevant)
You’re just mad that now the Angels get a chance to waste a great Japanese player’s best years.
Glad he had a great first half, but his second half has been pretty bad. Pitching today was terrible. I think his MVP case is slipping…
3.1 ip, 9h, 6r, 1so. Oooooohhh.
VLAD will win the Triple Crown!
