What is the best rotation you can come up with?
By - sam_e5
Probably a wheel, I see no flaws with that
What about a turbine?
Just a high tech wheel
5 Brett Philips'
Or one 5 armed Brett Phillips
I need to sit down and think about this
I’ll take 1884 Old Hoss Radbourn. That’s it. He’ll pitch every game
I'd gladly take him over Tim Keefe
15 Jacob deGroms. Pitch them 3 innings each. Never lose a game.
i feel like if he weren't on the IL rn, more people would have him in their 5
Playoffs: Bumgarner, Matthewson, Hoyt, Koufax, and Cliff Lee
Five Logan Webb's.
And Pablo Sandoval to close
Chris Davis is the setup man.
Rizzo in long relief
Might as well close the post we have a winner.
But how will Bumgarner win the WS MVP?
Then how will he hit dongs? I'm so confused.
Honestly can’t believe I’m the first person to get Paige up there, he’s the first person I thought of
I would like to say that I did think about him.
Rizzo, Rizzo, Rizzo, Astudillo, Rizzo
How could you forget noted flamethrower Brett phillips
Part of the bullpen
Walter Johnson, Tim Keefe, Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Old Hoss Radbourn
They get to use the dead ball era strike zone and mound too. Good luck hitting that weird sidearm 92 from The Big Train when the strike zone goes up to your head. Oh and they’ve been using the same ball the entire game so it’s covered in dirt and spit AND CF is 600’, have fun.
I was thinking about W Johnson and Grove. It’s very difficult to just choose five. Seaver, Clemens, R Johnson, and Pedro were no doubters for me though for my rotation.
Phil Niekro is so much fun to use in The Show.
Walter Johnson fucked the DH, look at his hitting stats for a pitcher, his OPS+ some seasons was way above what it should be, 98 for a pitcher? LOL.
Pedro, Clemens, Randy Johnson, Gibson and Koufax
Relievers: MadBum and Rivera
Bartolo, Bartolo, Bartolo, Bartolo, and Bartolo
No one could HANDLE that much sexy…
Actually you're right. I'd like to change my answer if that's allowed.
Big Sexy, Substantial Seductive, Tempting Tremendous, Humongous Handsome, and Enormous Enticing.
Four RA Dickey’s firing on all cylinders and Roy Halladay just for the fuck of it.
Give me 3 Cy Young Dickeys, 1 Halladay, and one Speedrun Mark Buerhle
You've got the math wrong because there's a buerhle in there, but I want 3 Dickeys because I love the knuckleball not because I want to make the best rotation
Four Dickeys and one Doc? Come on!
Give me 3 knuckleballers and the back of the rotation is degrom and felix hernandez. degrom because he's amazing and felix because I want to see what he does to batters after they face 3 straight knuckleballers
Put Maddux in.
Gibson has the greatest pitching season of all time so that’s why I chose him over Maddux. Maddux was extremely close to being my fifth though.
no deGrom? you sure about that flair?
I have Seaver.
RA Dickey, Dick Pole, Dick McBride, Dick Ellsworth, Carlisle Littlejohn
Tony Suck would catch for them.
5 bloopers from super mario sluggers
Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, George Sisler, Shohei Ohtani and Randy Johnson, I wanted four great hitting pitchers and an amazing pitcher. No other rotation can hit like they can!
1. 2014 Kershaw
2. 2021 Scherzer
3. 2020 Bauer
4. 2021 Buehler
5. Jacob DeGrom
Throw out 20 Bauer.
2020 central division pitcher played against absolute hot garbage teams exclusively.
No recency bias whatsoever
1 randy Johnson
2 Felix Hernandez
3 Jamie Moyer
4 Pedro Martinez
5 Andy petite
Johnson (Walter), Clemons, Pedro, Maddux, and Koufax
Pinball Clemons. Bold choice. 💥
Ha! Definitely an under-the-radar guy.
Replace Clemens with Maddux
I'm going to use current pitchers in their prime.
Game 1: Kershaw
Game 2: Verlander
Game 3: Greinke
Game 4: Arrieta
Scherzer above arrieta
Fair, but I lived in the Midwest and have very fond memories of arrieta
That depends on how long a prime is. If a prime can be, say, one season long, then Arrieta is arguably the ace of this staff. If a prime is considered a minimum of two or three years, DeGrom is the obvious replacement, with Scherzer serving as the single most over-qualified #5 ever
If half a season can be considered prime then I'd agree, but I still think Greinke deserved the Cy Young that season overall, but didn't get it because the Dodgers split the vote
If half of a season is a prime then Flaherty and Darvish make the roster for 2019 ahead of our four HOFers.
Gimme that Philip Humber three hour prime
I have contained my rage for as long as possible. How can you have a rotation full of active pitcher in their prime and NOT have Jacob deGrom?
Because the team will magically stop producing runs
Nonsense, deGrom will drive in the runs himself.
I mean Prime Kershaw is already in the rotation, so that's already a factor
You’d choose Grienke or Arietta over Scherzer in their primes?
Grienke has likely the best season of any of them, being one of very few players since 2000 not named Bonds to have a 10 WAR year.
This must be regular season only because there is no way that MadBum isn't Game 1 in the playoffs.
MadBum is my game 7 reliever
No deGrom? ludicrous
Kluber over Verlander
Fair. I just wanted to get my thoughts out
I’d probably go Jeff Neimann, Fausto Carmona, Jake Faria, Roberto Hernandez, and Michael Wacha
Fausto "Fausto carmona" carmona
Using JUST Astros in prime seasons.
Pitcher | WAR | W/L | Ks per 9 | ERA & ERA+
Roger Clemens (2005) | 7.8 |13-8 | 7.9 | 1.87 & 226
Nolan Ryan (1981) | 4.7 | 11-5 | 8.5 | 1.81 & 195
JR Richard (1979) | 5.6 | 18-13 | 9.6 |2.71 & 130
Gerrit Cole (2019) | 6.6 | 20-5 | 13.8 | 2.50 & 185
Mike Scott (1986)| 8.4 | 18-10 | 10.0 | 2.22 & 161
I'd throw that rotation against nearly anyone
Aside from the jokes, there’s no reason anyone passes on Bumgarner. There is no one living or dead who has out performed that man to win championships in today’s game.
The reason someone passes on Bumgarner is because he’s not a top 20 all time pitcher, let alone top 5. Love the man forever but he’s not in the conversation for a best rotation spot.
Steve Pearce has the same number of WS MVPs as Bumgarner
use that information as you please
I would not sum up Bumgarner’s accomplishments as 1 World Series MVP though.
Randy Johnson, Scherzer, Kershaw, Koufax
Satchel, degrom, king Felix, old hoss, rodon, bullpen day
Max Scherzer since joining the Dodgers
Walter Johnson, Cy Young, John Clarkson, Kid Nichols, Christy Mathewson
I think people forget how good Kershaw was lol.
If I get all at their absolute peaks i’m going Seaver, Randy, Pedro, Kershaw, deGrom. (Fuck Clemens)
The 2021 Milwaukee Brewers
Satchel, Koufax, Maddux, Ryan, Johnson
1) Walter Johnson
2) Satchel Paige
3) Pedro Martinez
4) Bob Gibson
5) Nolan Ryan
