Cran-Pita

I never thought I’d feel pain again like the way I did when Soroka’s Achilles went the first time, but here I am, and it’s worse.

NevermoreSEA

I honestly can't even remember the last time that I felt this sad about an injury to a player who isn't on the M's. Acuña is such an exciting player to watch, and he's looked like one of the most talented players of this generation over the past few years. It hurts to see him go down like this, but I just hope that he'll come back strong and get right back to dominating.

ZiiKiiF

I feel the same way. I hate that he’s on our rival team because I’d love to cheer for him. Just makes it hard when he hits dingers off our pitching all the time.

EsperBahamut

> honestly can't even remember the last time that I felt this sad about an injury to a player who isn't on the M's. For me, that guy in Tampa who broke his upper forearm on a pitch. Healed, rehabbed, tried to rebuild his career... and had it happen again in AAA to end his comeback and career. Just brutal.

Kevin-Garvey-1

At least I’m not as concerned about an ACL recovery as an Achilles. I’m scared that Soroka may never be an MLB level pitcher again.

Cran-Pita

I don’t think I realized just how bad Achilles was at the time - but now particularly with this second tear I really share your fear and that is extremely heartbreaking

howinthefrick

Achilles is waaaaaay bad. ACL at this point is surgery, rehab, you're good to go. As long as he doesn't rush it he should be good. With an Achilles it may never go back to being solid. It does so much more work than anyone realizes.

spyson

Achilles is worst because it leads to other injuries. An athlete trying to rehab the Achilles injury might injure something in his other leg due to overcompensation.

BrosefBrosefMogo

Achilles is worst because its the biggest tendon in the body.

Iweloz

or in reverse...Klay Thompson tore his ACL first, then tore his Achilles while recovering. DeMarcus Cousins though, yeah torn Achilles then tore his ACL later, although he did play for the Warriors between the two injuries. But Soroka tearing the same Achilles twice makes me think he'll never pitch again (and I really do hope I'm dead wrong)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Iweloz

definitely! I'm a Lakers fan so sadly I got to see first hand what an Achilles tear can do to a legend...I always figured if it ruined Kobe of all people it would take anybody down. KD for sure is an anomaly in that regard. Something that I think actually helped him was Covid interrupting the season. I believe he could have played in the bubble if he wanted to, but he didn't so his return in December was 1.5 years after his injury. Kobe got hurt in April and I believe came back in November/December? The time off definitely helped KD in his remarkable recovery. But still, for Soroka tearing the same Achilles twice, I don't know. Has any athlete ever done that and come back at all?

RiverRat12

Jake Burger is currently doing it for my team. Surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention in the baseball world. He’s had a great first week. Re-tore his Achilles just like Soroka, and he’s here now

howinthefrick

Countercounterpoint: Laurence Shahlaei (strongman competitor) retired from serious competition after borking his Achilles. It's all individual, of course.

[deleted]

howinthefrick

Countercountercountercounterpoint: That Achilles guy never recovered after his Achilles tendon injury.

HandRailSuicide1

the quality of tissue they're trying to sew together is described as a "mop head"

howinthefrick

That's a yikes.

Sweatsock_Pimp

Yes. Achilles are ridiculously harsh. I got downvoted to hell when Soroka first blew it out last fall. So many people were thinking we’d get him back in June or July, but it’s just not that simple, especially for a pitcher. Even without the 2nd tear, he wasn’t going to be 100% until after the season. While a lousy break for us and Acuña, I’m relieved that it’s “just” an ACL.

Teh_cliff

This will strike some as overly negative, but at this point I'll be surprised if Soroka is ever the top of the rotation guy he looked like pre-injury.

Vxmonarkxv

Man i think thats an optimistic view, it'd be surprising if he's ever a plus player again.

somegirldc

Retearing it simply walking is terrifying, and I can't imagine it bodes well

faithisuseless

ACL recovery is not as bad as achilles recovery. He has a higher chance of coming back and preforming at the same level. Achilles tears can end your career.

The_Pudge

Notably for Braves fans Chipper Jones tore his ACL in spring training of 1994.

Lobster_fest

It also delayed his full debut until 95 where we won the chip but he lost ROY to the goddamn Tornado.

Ancient-Ad294

Sorry man. Different sport but I remember when Novorro Bowman suffered that gruesome knee injury. It just shattered my heart. Acuna is a special player and he will come back 100%

zcd29

I was hoping he’d have one of his miraculous healing things and be good to go post all star game. Fuck injuries e: bc I’m an sd sports fan and I’m familiar with injuries, it makes every moment going forward feel like an “if only” which is so fucking shitty. Im drunk af but I get way too emotionally invested in baseball so I hope he comes back 100% and crushes it. The game is better for it

Brad_Edmonds96

Braves fans therapy session. Let it all out. This is a safe place.

Leading-Aide-8468

I’ve had season tickets since before he came up. Met him when he was a rookie and was surprised when he said “what’s up man?” in English. I’ve watched him do amazing things, and have more fun on a baseball field than anyone else every night. He’s the closest Braves player to my seats. He’s the best young player in the league, and loves playing baseball. I’m not alright tonight.

deltatangothree

Well, this fucking sucks

jyok33

Fuck the infield fly rule?

Law_Pug

Gimme the beat boys and yeet my soul, I wanna get tossed in a fucking hole and drift away

CybeastID

That is a good parody.

LP99

Did you make this? It’s good.

lamboat2019

Unfortunately no, but still good [source](https://youtu.be/7sK7z7b8r00)

subyforshort

Just fade us already, no need to wait

Total_Denomination

Yeah. Mods, please be merciful and put us out of our misery.

Ryuuken1789

Absolutely awful. One of the bright young faces of the sport competing for a MVP won't be able to see the campaign through.

Skaterkid221

I'm fucking depressed to see this. He's a rival but he's such a bright young face of this sport. One of the bright spots of this league. Fuck this fucking blows.

George_Zip1

I completely agree. Rival or no it sucks to see such a talented player go down.

Quotered

I’m glad to see Nats, Mets, Phillies, and Marlins fans in here saying his injury sucks. He makes any game he’s in more exciting to watch. There are so many injuries in the division that I feel like we’ve been robbed of watching these powerhouse teams beat the snot out of each other all season.

smallmouth77

The hater part of me keeps saying I wanted them to fail at full strength and my brain says this just fucking sucks. Regardless I certainly didn’t want to see this and am hoping he comes back with the same explosiveness.

88T3

You know it's bad when the team's rival feels bad for them

DrToadigerr

I think most teams would feel the same way about their rivals. Injuries are never the way you want to really win. Like sure seeing that you won't have to deal with a player for a single series and being thankful is one thing, but something like this is on an entirely different level.

gatemansgc

yeah we'd rather a player be out with something not-horrific, like a stomach bug or back tightness. not something that ends a season ):

jihyoisgod

I always want to beat teams while they're healthy, so there's no excuses

BillW87

I'd hope most fans of the game would feel this way. Baseball is more fun when the best players are on the field. Also, at the end of the day it's still a person wearing the other team's jersey who just had his career that he's worked his entire life for thrown into jeopardy with a significant injury. My fingers are crossed that Acuna has a speedy and complete recovery so that we can get back to beating the Braves with their best team.

Galactic

No baseball fan should be happy to see one of the sport's brightest stars hurt with a potentially career-damaging injury, regardless of their laundry.

Go_Mets

Acuna is just different man :( this breaks my heart

lookcloserlenny

Yeah, the NL East was better because of him. We need our rivals, and he was so damn good. This just plain sucks. I’m sorry Braves fans.

red_right_hand_

That’s so brutal

SterlingAdmiral

Absolutely brutal. Season goes from a maybe to 0 chance for the Braves. Better luck in 2022.

Quople

I wouldn’t sleep on them with this division but this certainly does not help

Teh_cliff

No Soroka, no Ozuna, now no Acuna? You can sleep on us. Or put us to bed. Whichever idiom you prefer.

Intervention360

Put us down. The suffering hurts to watch.

veloxthekrakenslayer

Yeah, just take us out back to the woodshed and Old Yeller us.

Conda3N

Seriously. Just grab a nice heavy pillow and do what you gotta do at this point. Fuck.

bamaman34

At this point two in the back of the skull is preferable to watching what is left

apatriot1776

don’t forget no d’arnaud

Marcus1119

It's honestly lose lose - if the division does continue to shit the bed collectively and you luck your way to the postseason, then what? Getting swept by the second best NL West team? I'm scared enough of facing that with the Mets at full strength, but for you all after all this? Death.

SterlingAdmiral

As they exist now they don't have it. Perhaps not impossible but without making a few moves at the deadline this team won't be able to win multiple playoff series. Take out Acuna and they're a league average offense, their pitching is average and defensively they're below average. The Braves certainly aren't at rebuild-o-clock right now but with the pieces they've lost this year it just ain't happening.

amatom27

This fucking sucks. I don't care if the Braves are our enemy I never wanna see anything like this happen :(

timidandtimbuktu

Mets fan here. This is a total bummer. You just hate hearing this news. I wouldn't wish this one anyone.

Sandwich_Crust

Genuinely tragic. Look back to 2019 and you saw Tatis, Vladdy, Soto, Ohtani as those big next gen guys and it’s incredible that they were all essentially the top players this year. Hopefully he makes a full recovery to rejoin them next year.

strcy

Holy shit this fucking SUCKS

DharmaCub

The worst possible outcome for any baseball fan. I have no affiliation whatsoever with the Braves, but this is a monumental loss for the sport.

Hg1146

I WANT TO DIE

[deleted]

First we lost the All Star Game. Okay fine, whatever. Then Ozuna went and tried to put his wife’s head through a wall. What the fuck? Will Smith is our closer. Can it get any worse!? *it does* Oh no, Maple Maddux’s Achilles exploded again. Are you shitting me? And now this. Fuck my ass. What’s next? Does our entire pitching staff get popped for sticky shit? Edit: d’Arnaud’s hand turned into the creepy guy’s from Scary Movie and Ynoa decided to obliterate his hand on a wall.

Hazelarc

d’Arnaud tore his hand Ynoa punched a bench Dansby fell off a cliff

Laney20

Y u do dis? I picked out a "designated huascar" shirt for my birthday. He broke his hand before it arrived. Awesome shirt, but now it just makes me sad to look at. Was wearing it when max fried got the walk off, though. It clearly has powers.

UnsungHero44

Almost as bad as my Ozuna Big Bear shirt coming in the day he was arrested.

Laney20

Damn.. Yea, yours is worse.

PanicVectors

Oof.

[deleted]

I know that feel. I got a shirt that says “There’s wind, boys!” from 2020 spring training when Freddie was mic’d up and scored from first on a bloop. They postponed the season and the next day it got delivered. Goddamn.

Wrinkle_Tinkle

It has to be only up from here right? We’ve had to have paid our dues to the Atlanta sports gods by now. How much more blood do they desire?

[deleted]

This is what we get for letting the Hawks make such a deep playoff run when they weren’t supposed to be there. We’ve angered the spirits.

PWNtimeJamboree

THIS IS ALL NIGHTY-NIGHT NATE’S FAULT DAMN YOU LLOYD FOR NOT DOING JUST ENOUGH TO NOT GET FIRED

smithson23

The Curse of Richard Jewell

ATLjoe93

I guess the embarrassing playoff exits haven't quite sufficed. That whole thing was pretty fucked, though. Poor guy suffered unnecessarily.

1869er

You jest but it really is remarkable how much suffering this town is forced to endure. Like most cities at least have the respite of the occasional title. I have literally never seen one of my teams win a title. So many collapses, heartbreaks, devastating injuries. Nothing to show for it Yes I am in full doom mode tonight

gwease23

Panthers/Hornets/Braves fan checking in. Oof.

roaringcorgi

at least Freddie Freeman isn't gonna be traded right guys

notsaying123

He's not being traded

I will personally burn down Liberty Media headquarters if Freddie isn't extended. That isn't a threat, it's a promise.

Seriously the most hellish year for a team I’ve seen in a long time. In any sport. This team was thisfuckingclose to the World Series last year and now this. Ugh. I’m sorry bravo fans.

Hopefully we get Acuna Revenge Tour 2022. Baseball is more fun with him on the field.

ScummyJoe11

r/MLBTheShow knows

JohnSim22

This is a fantastic crossover episode

TheMeleeMan

Was browsing the comments for this one.

Leading-Aide-8468

This really hurts, man. As a Braves fan and baseball fan, I want to hope he’ll be back for 2022. But realistically we’re looking at a complete lost season in 2022. He may not ever be the same player again. Maybe it’s just the massive pile of shit Braves fans have had to eat this year, but fuck… this feels like it’s going to be worse than bad, because everything has been so bad in 2021.

seigs_

Cutch seems to have fully healed at this point. It took him a while, but Acuña is a lot younger and should be able to recover

HB_Slam

It seems like in football a lot of guys comes back in 9-10 months fully healthy these days. I know this is a different sport but same surgery. Still makes me hopeful for Acuña and anyone else this unfortunately happens to Edit: idk why anyone is down voting you lol

FiveDiamondGame

Another thing to consider is his mental state after the injury and recovery. It may take a long time for him to stop being nervous or hesitant on the leg. Hopefully the tear is straightforward and easy to repair and he recovers well. He's an absolute stud and the last thing you want is for his career to suffer cause of this.

Viss90

Well, with the way you’re talking, at least he didn’t sign a 14 year deal worth 340 million.

BravoSarno

I would like to simulate the rest of the season like I do in The Show when my team is complete garbage.

09jtherrien

*runs simulation* Entire atlanta roster is injured. Braves promote entire AAA team.

Braves season done. All my fantasy teams done. Probably my enjoyment of the sport done until next year lol

Look on the bright side, at least you had some sort of enjoyment beyond the start of the season?

[deleted]

Have you seen the Braves season? 🔫

SubparMeteorologist

It’s hard to see from second to last in the AL :,)

ryandutcher

Rangers, Braves and Marlins are only teams never to be above .500 this season. So, no not much enjoyment for either of us.

GoatPaco

Cruel irony is that we may get there tomorrow

ryandutcher

Fool me once...

GuardianOfFreyja

I fully expect to get to 1 game over .500 tomorrow before we start sliding, because Atlanta sports is a cruel joke.

At least you’ll have a good draft pick lol And you get to watch Gallo every day

MaiqDaLiar1177

Just devastating for the sport as a whole. What a nightmare season for the Braves. I wish Acuña a speedy recovery

I feel just like I did when I was a kid and Griffey broke his wrist running into the wall. Not seeing him that year in TEX for the ASG was so tough for me as a young baseball fan. To all the kids out there right now.... hang tough, he'll come back. It sucks, but he'll come back.

I don't know if there's a specific origin to this, but I've seen this comment in like 5 different threads and it's so random that it never fails to crack me up. Nothing against the guy or the Sox either.

bumpofyeetler

It's a reference to some of the posts the WSox social media put out when he got injured that made it sound like he had died + at the time Abreu at least was pretty torn up about it and talking about how he'd "carry on his legacy"/ how "this game is for Eloy" so that just added on to the confusion and made some people think the man passed, even got #RIPEloy trending at one point lmao. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/miawao/the_white_sox_posted_an_interesting_tribute_to/ http://reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/miccf3/white_sox_screwed_up_eloy_jimenez_tribute_so_bad/

I don't know how I missed that, but that's pure comedy lmao. Thank you

salmon_3lla

Fucking awful news. Idc if it helps my team i will always hate to see a young exciting superstar lose a season to injury

currentlydownvoted

d’Arnaud, Ynoa then Soroka. Then Ozuna (for various reasons) and now Acuña. All of them out for months if not the entire year. This season ain’t it, time to activate “there’s always next year” protocol.

Anal__Hershiser

Marlins are bad juju

MisterOminous

Never want to see any player get injured. Wishing Acuna a speedy recovery.

legobmw99

Jesus. There’s nothing to say, it’s just terrible

WilCon24

What did the Atlanta Braves do to anger the baseball gods?

YouKilledChurch

Atlanta sports and the sports gods in general tbh Edit and to answer your question, it was the Olympics. They cursed sports in this city. Atlanta United snuck a fast one past the Sports Gods with a natty and they have been kicking Atlanta extra hard in the dick since then

ContinuumGuy

"We're gonna give you an all-time moment with Ali and the torch but after that we're gonna make you feel pain you didn't even know existed." - the sports gods, probably.

smithson23

The Curse of Richard Jewell. He got done dirty and the sports gods won't forgive until the AJC apologizes

StreetReporter

It actually extends past Atlanta, as Georgia blew a lead against Alabama in the National Championship

mikeSTWA

The actual city of Atlanta is just the tip of the iceberg

klako8196

In 1996, the soccer gold medal game was played at Sanford Stadium (UGA's stadium), so the Olympics curse extends to UGA too.

exexposfan

I’ve claimed they needed to burn Turner Field in order to get rid of the curse/it was built on Indian burial grounds. Sorry Braves fans, I hope Soroka and acuna bounce back well

droolingtortillas

I'd still trade all my teams for all Atlanta/UGA teams easily

YouKilledChurch

That's the fun thing about the Atlanta Curse, there are definitely cities with worse curses where they never even taste the idea of a championship, but in Atlanta it is always just so close, which makes it hurt that much more

Valkyrai

Well this shit always happens this year when they get to .500 So... Getting to .500

Grst

I'm straight up not having a good time.

Iswaterreallywet

I'm having a horrible fucking time

Skaterkid221

Man this hurts me and I'm a nats fan. Can't imagine how y'all feel right now.

dandystanley

He got a lot of shit and people thought he got exploited for signing the extension that he did but honestly you sign the extension for this exact reason. Good to have the financial security god forbid the worst case scenario plays out. Speedy recovery to him.

SexiestPanda

Turn injuries off damn it

Zloggt

It’s a real shame too, seeing Acuña avoid potential major injury after potential major injury…only for it to strike at the worst possible time…

FrostyBurn

WHY GOD, WHY????

YouCallMeBrave

I honestly don't know if I can continue watching this season. Every game will be a mourning. He reinvigorated my fandom so much. My heart is literally aching for him. Think I gotta take a break from baseball for a bit.

aes131313

Fuck

SubparMeteorologist

The Big Suck™️

iKnoJopro

Absolutely devastating for Ronald, the Braves, and the entire sport. So so so sad. Get well soon Ronnie, hope to see you kicking ass again some time next year.

Valkyrai

Shit like this always happens when we get to 500. Please stop getting to 500

cub1395

That is so fucking sad. :(

PeteyG89

I want to throw up. My favorite player in baseball. This sucks.

Taylorenokson

The light has gone out of my life.

Leading-Aide-8468

I’ve often used that quote sarcastically, but it applies here.

halfhere

I don’t even know what to say. Completely crushed. Goddammit. He doesn’t deserve this.

boomshakalaka85

That really sucks. I’m a casual MLB fan and he’s one of the few that I love to check in on because he just brings a good energy to the game. I really wanted to see him play in person this year too. Sorry Atlanta bros.

dopiates

Bro, I’m straight up not having a good time right now..

C0d3n4m3Duchess

There are few active players I hate more than Acuña and I promise that's purely from a place of respect and fear since he's on the Barves. This sucks, dude is a delight to see out there. Hopefully he bounces back as good as ever.

Butternades

This really sucks. I had a complete tear of my ACL playing soccer. I wasn’t able to fully run till like 6 months after my surgery and I still have lingering pains during air pressure spikes some times

Wrinkle_Tinkle

ACL injuries aren’t the end of the world anymore, absolutely sucks for this season, but it’s good to know this isn’t career ending nor alternating

ApeDosMatt398

This sucks so fucking much Luckily ACL is something that you can come back from, especially as a baseball player. Knowing Acuna he’ll come back better. This is quite obviously a cursed season for the Braves and even as a Mets fan I honestly feel for you guys. Always respected your team and players Maybe it’s easier to see from an outsiders perspective, especially a division rivals perspective but the Braves are the Braves and they’ll be back. Acuna will be back better than ever. Your front office will fix the bullpen. Your starting rotation is going to be healthy and gel. As a Mets fan I have no reason to not be scared of the Braves going forward. I know you guys will be back. I know it doesn’t take the pain away now but I wanted to say something

On3_BadAssassin

First thing I’ve read that makes me feel even a little better. Thanks, Mets bro. This is why it’s crucial that you win when you’re in the Postseason and don’t take it for granted. We blew the 3-1 NLCS lead last year and everyone said “It’s okay, you’ll be in contention for a while and have more shots at it.” Yet here we are, back to our usual ways — Acuña, Ozuna, d’Arnaud, Ynoa, Soroka (*re-injured) all happened this year, and it’s only July. Oh, and Freddie is in his contract year with zero progress toward an extension. *edit

PanicVectors

To the person who sent the Reddit Care Resources after me because of a suicide joke I want you to know that I am absolutely not going to do that but it's either really nice of you or pretty funny. Either way cheers!

clmthree

This is awful. Enjoyed his energy and personality, always liked the Braves too. Hope he recovers and bats .400 with 100 homers in 2022.

bukithd

Rounds of bleach at the chop house, on me.

Forsaken-Special-863

Fuuuuuck. Really feel for the braves this year

unitedairlineeeeees

Ugh this is awful for the game. I dislike the Braves very much but it’s horrendous.

FrosteeRL

I don't even know if I can happily watch the rest of the season

eye_panic

Baseball just got a little less exciting :(

ThatManAaron7

This sucks ass. Braves processed way better than us and deserve a chance to play injury free

jspell7575

He can take my ACL. He needs it more than me.

chair823

Man fuck this

Bluedevil1090

This fucking sucks
