Old school guys would say you don’t want say a catcher on the bases because he’s in theory doing nothing since he can’t run well. Dusty baker has used clogging the bases.
The strikeouts break my heart. Most of the time they just stand in the box and don't bother swinging like it's the episode of South Park where the kids are trying to lose. I'm Randy in this scenario
I used to root for Bellhorn to strikeout when there were men on base because it was better than a double play.
He would refuse to swing until he had 2 strikes, and then try to tallywack anything thrown at him. Spoilers, he struck out 177 times in 2004 vs 88 walks and 138 hits.
And he played 2nd base like he was wearing a boxing glove.
Frankly you aren't wrong. The league leaders in double plays each year are teams with the most people on first base (95% of double plays are with a man on first) where there was a scorching hard ball hit right at someone (if it is hit soft, the batter can get to first before you can turn two). In general, the teams with the most GIDPs tend to be among the best in MLB each year for this reason.
it's like how most car accidents happen within 2 miles of your home when that's where a vast majority of everyone's driving
more opportunities for something to happen will generally mean more of those outcomes will happen
It’s fine Cashman still hate watches the 2017 World Series DVD every night before going to bed because *that* is the reason why we haven’t won a World Series and not because we constantly allow a dud GM to handle hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
The Yankees now sit in last place, four games under .500 and nine games back in the wild card. They are behind the *Angels* in the standings.
Guys, I think that they might very well be in a spot of trouble
San Diego has a solid roster yielding a +57 run differential and somehow contrived to go 6-19 in one run games and 0-10 in extra innings to squander it.
The Yankees, on the other hand, are outplaying their Pythag by a game and their BaseRuns by two, have the record that a stars-and-scrubs roster ends up with when the stars are injury-prone and get injured.
I'm straining to think of a professional team in any sport that has been so statistically good and has been so absolutely ass in game outcomes. *Maybe* the 2018 Steelers (or the 2021 Padres...), but this Padres team has gotta be close to historically anti-clutch.
Defense can't give up yards or points if Special Teams allows historic amounts of both. Offense goes right back out, too.
A pitching staff could put up some good looking ERA/WHIP numbers if the fielders behind them gave up enough errors.
Moving up in the draft order is honestly the most we can hope for.
Hell maybe they can lose out the rest of the year and secure a top 5 pick like the Red Sox do every couple of years.
"I wanna thank Brian Cashman... Aaron Boone... the entire front office... THIS IS OUR FUCKIN' CHRISTMAS. And we not gonna let anyone dictate our happiness. Stay blessed! ✊🏾"
Yep, this is just Yankees fans on copium thinking that they can even hate their team better than others can hate them.
No chance they hate the Yankees more than Sox fans do. If Judge somehow put them on his back again and they ran off 12 in a row and were challenging for a wild card spot, you'd still hate them, but all these Yankees fans claiming to hate them would be right back on their nuts like they never left.
What do you don’t realize is that the worse the Yankees do, the more likely it is that Cashman and Boone are actually fired, and competent people come in. Then a new GM and Manager get to leverage a $250-$300M payroll with some decent pieces in the majors and minors, along with an owner who says “buy everyone, I’m sick of being an embarrassment.”
Then, all of a sudden, the Yankees are back and you can point back to this point of this season to realize when it started.
So yes, let’s get in here because hopefully - just hopefully - we keep losing and it forces change.
Yeah Hal has no backbone and Cashman has been part of the yankees since the 90s so theres no chance of him leaving anytime. I think I remember hearing Hal say that firing Cashman was out of the question. Best we could hope for is Boone getting fired but we’re still left with a bad front office and a terrible injury prone lineup
The only thing that might be a saving grace is that the losing streak started after this was said. With how this last month is about to go, things are going to get real ugly in the bronx in September. It might be enough to change Hal’s mind
It’s definitely enough for a normal owner to fire Cashman but this is Hal. He knows nothing about baseball and has no passion unlike his father. He couldn’t care less about the scores as long as they are making money. The only chance that Cashman gets fired is if ticket sales plummet
This is going to be their worst season in like 30 years. They will not only miss the postseason, but they will also finish under .500 for the first time in forever and last in the division.
If nothing changes this offseason it will confirm what we already knew, that Hal simply couldn't give a singular fuck about winning
The nationals have been playing better baseball than most team post All Star break. They aren't there yet but they sure are scrappy. If they can take the first two games Yankees would have a 10 game loosing streak.
1995 back when they had some guy named Costanza in the front office and they were wearing cotton uniforms? I remember that sad time for this storied franchise.
Saw a Yankee fan in the stands wearing a jersey with a World Series patch on the sleeve. It was in really good shape considering how old that jersey must be.
I'm a Jays fan, but you win that exchange.
Also I don't want to seem like I'm being nice to pander for upvotes, so I hope you never get to witness another playoff Yankees team.
I mean we've all been repeating the metaphor for years that rooting for the Yankees is like going to Vegas and rooting for the casinos, so they can just rename themselves the Casinos I guess
Hello! Billy Mays here with a very special announcement!!! Hello MLB pitchers! Are you a new, young pitcher who needs to build confidence? Are you an old journeyman with a 6+ career ERA? Or are you a Cy Young award winner who needs an easy game in between your record setting year?
Well say no more! We’ve got the perfect solution for you! All you need to do is have a game against the 2023 New York Yankees offense! Work on your ground-ball inducing double play pitches, or just watch your breaking balls fool the entire lineup! Watch your ERA and peripherals decrease by as much as 1 whole ERA! Now THAT’S thinking outside the box! Our $300 million dollar staff of professionals will be on the clock to fix your woes! Don’t believe us? Just listen to some of our satisfied customers!
“I was a young gun with not much experience in the bigs. I wasn’t a believer until they grounded into a double play on the second batter of the game! Now I think I can strike out Babe Ruth!”
“I was a former all star who hit a slump. But thanks to the 2023 New York Yankees I was able to bring my ERA down half a point in one day! Thank you, Yankees!”
Order within the next ten minutes and we’ll throw in free, Anthony Rizzo’s brain!
I flew up to NY for work last Thursday, and wore a Braves hat to my hotel, and had an Uber cancel on me after greeting me at La Guardia. So in honor of that dude, I’m laughing my ass off.
[i'd say *most likely* a Mets fan lmao

Refusing service to someone over a baseball hat is wild. I'm going to book a flight to LaGuardia and go to ground transportation to see if a taxi will take me
That dude is lying, uber drivers aren't driving out to LaGuardia just to cancel and turn around because of a hat. Odds are the driver isn't even a baseball fan
Idk if LaGuardia is like some other airports where Uber drivers have to wait in a queue to pick up rides that could mean sitting in a lot for 30+ minutes. No one is getting to the front of that line and cancelling for no good reason.
Also who tf cancels a ride when the person is right at the car
I saw Atlanta @ Boston a few weeks ago wearing my Braves hat and everyone was super nice, from randoms in the hotel, Uber drivers, and even the Boston fans around us. It was a super awesome experience.
I went to a couple games wearing Braves gears in Philly last year and it was an absolute blast. Their banter is fun and can take it as well as they can dish it. Fun stadium to see a ball game.
It’s crazy to think that the team who’s won the most World Series in the American League is under .500 right now, I wonder how the national league team who’s won the most World Series is doing right now.
This statistic (and the one about “below .500 this late for the first time since…”) just makes me hate the Yankees soooooo much more. An 8 game losing streak should not be this significant lmao.
I'm leaving NYC soon and finally went to my first Yankees game last month.
It was against the Orioles, when we lost 14-1.
Glad I could support my local team...
Stranded two with no outs in the ninth. Rough stuff out in the Bronx right now.
Honestly that's good for the Yankees. Normally there would be a double play in there.
Double play or two non-competitive strikeouts, which is worse?
Strikeouts are worse, at least with double plays you get rid of that bad traffic clogging up the bases
Always leave the bases exactly as you found them when you're done, make sure to clean up after yourself.
Leave no trace
It's like wiping off your gear after going to the gym. Even if you went til failure it's still proper form.
I don't get this, when people say "traffic clogging the bases", is it a joke? Has Boone said that he doesn't like people being on base?
It's a joke yep lol. Of course you want dudes on base
Dusty Baker doesn't think it's a joke. And who are we to question his wisdom?
Old school guys would say you don’t want say a catcher on the bases because he’s in theory doing nothing since he can’t run well. Dusty baker has used clogging the bases.
Yes.
The strikeouts break my heart. Most of the time they just stand in the box and don't bother swinging like it's the episode of South Park where the kids are trying to lose. I'm Randy in this scenario

Well good teams hit into double plays. /s
Frankly you aren't wrong. The league leaders in double plays each year are teams with the most people on first base (95% of double plays are with a man on first) where there was a scorching hard ball hit right at someone (if it is hit soft, the batter can get to first before you can turn two). In general, the teams with the most GIDPs tend to be among the best in MLB each year for this reason.
sounds dumb but youre mostly right. yankees actually ground into the least amount of double plays of all teams.
it's like how most car accidents happen within 2 miles of your home when that's where a vast majority of everyone's driving more opportunities for something to happen will generally mean more of those outcomes will happen
You hate to see it, but more than that, you love to see it.
Just smile. It's your year! ...as long as you don't have to face any Jeffrey Maiers.
I told you *never* to say that name in my presence!
Take a deep breath and imagine Eddie Murray raking doubles. You'll be ok.
Pinch hit an .098 hitter down to their last out
He was due for a hit
I have the same methodology sports betting the A’s to win
You took all the money you made and bet it *against* the Harlem Globetrotters?
The Generals were due!
They don't call it the "gambler's fallacy" for nothing.
He made contact at least!
He was already subbed into the lineup in the top of the inning and the bench was empty
He was already in the game
That's a decision.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
The risk they took was calculated, but man are they bad at math.
It's right in front of us
--things you hear before impact
Seeing The Yankees struggling really does put a smile on my face.......
Pepperidge Farm remembers three weeks ago, when the Cubs were surely trading them Bellinger for some lint from Cashman's couch cushions.
Ah, that's like a daily occurrence now.
They went to the ALDS in 95. Perhaps I am the world’s biggest cynic, but somehow I don’t see that happening this year.
Maybe Boone will show the big losing streak from 1995 as motivation like he showed them the BoSox big comeback this past ALCS down 0-3.
It’s fine Cashman still hate watches the 2017 World Series DVD every night before going to bed because *that* is the reason why we haven’t won a World Series and not because we constantly allow a dud GM to handle hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
Cashman will ask Altuve to come speak to the Yankees about how to hit walk off HRs with players on bases
He's way too shy to do that
his wife wont let him.
Seriously what the FUCK were they thinking with that?
Yeah you're really kinda negative there. I mean its right in front of them!
The turnaround is coming
Tickets might be pricey but I think they can still afford them
Damn, I was going for a rematch
yes please tell me more about the 1995 ALDS. Did anything really cool happen?
Angels, Athletics, and Mariners were the ones to provide those 8 losses in 1995.

Burn it to the ground

AL Best
Sounds like a rough road trip
r/TheALBest
Now this brings a smile to my face
I’m just glad we could be a part of something so special [wipes tear]
The 2023 New York Yankees may never win again.
🤞
👍 maybe Hal would actually fire cashman
Wait no! They should suddenly go on a run and miss the playoffs by a game!
As a Blue Jays fan, I approve
The Yankees now sit in last place, four games under .500 and nine games back in the wild card. They are behind the *Angels* in the standings. Guys, I think that they might very well be in a spot of trouble
They're still doing better than San Diego. A.J. Preller better be working on his resumé... lol

I’m surprised the 2010 Chargers weren’t the first thing that came to your mind
I had the same thoughts. Weren't they first in offense and defense for the longest time that season?
The whole season, actually. Number one offense and number one defense. Missed the playoffs because their special teams were atrocious.
Defense can't give up yards or points if Special Teams allows historic amounts of both. Offense goes right back out, too. A pitching staff could put up some good looking ERA/WHIP numbers if the fielders behind them gave up enough errors.
Too bad their special teams cost them on more than a few occasions, iirc
#FUCK YOU, SPANOS!
It was for me, but also Fuck Dean Spanos. \#1 Offense & Defense, but the worst ranked Special Teams... ugh.
2020 Mets But who knows what a full 162 would’ve yielded
Man imagine swapping the two haha
I think that’s optimistic. BoMel will probably end up taking the fall.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. It’s literally right in front of them.
Bruh cmon we hurt enough after last night. Don’t need to be catching strays.
concerning
what the hell, it's like people don't like us
Have you tried not sucking?
We don’t like them even when they’re not sucking
I definitely like them more when they are sucking, if you can call it liking anyway
They are ALWAYS sucking, even when they aren't sucking The Yankees suck. That's like, what they do.
*sees flair* No, that doesn't seem right.
I almost fell bad for you guys .......... Almost
Let's go for 10! I really think this Yankees team is special and they can do it.
Moving up in the draft order is honestly the most we can hope for. Hell maybe they can lose out the rest of the year and secure a top 5 pick like the Red Sox do every couple of years.
That's our specialty. Win a WS or make it far, then burn everything to the ground the next couple yeas and be absolute dogshit.
This is my World Series
"This jersey don't say Red Sox. It say AL East"
proud of you guys right now.
Just for a few minutes we can all be friends except the Yankees fans.
Hey man I just got here
Fine, we can see if you pass the friendship test. Fuck the Yankees? Yes or no.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again That’s what the log cabin is for
"I wanna thank Brian Cashman... Aaron Boone... the entire front office... THIS IS OUR FUCKIN' CHRISTMAS. And we not gonna let anyone dictate our happiness. Stay blessed! ✊🏾"
Dis is our fohkin' division! Ain't no Jankees gonna dictate our standings!
This is *all of our* World Series'
We are all World Series on this blessed day!
Why would you just want to be a piece of metal?
It is a step up. As a little boy, I wanted to be a fire truck!
No one hates the Yankees right now more than Yankee fans do.
I feel like it's still Sox fans
Yep, this is just Yankees fans on copium thinking that they can even hate their team better than others can hate them. No chance they hate the Yankees more than Sox fans do. Hi I'm here
What do you don’t realize is that the worse the Yankees do, the more likely it is that Cashman and Boone are actually fired, and competent people come in. Then a new GM and Manager get to leverage a $250-$300M payroll with some decent pieces in the majors and minors, along with an owner who says “buy everyone, I’m sick of being an embarrassment.” Then, all of a sudden, the Yankees are back and you can point back to this point of this season to realize when it started. So yes, let’s get in here because hopefully - just hopefully - we keep losing and it forces change.
Cashman has tenure
Maybe he can be fired when Steinbrenner winters in FL. FL banned tenure.
Florida Has Gone Woke
I was torn, never want to get swept by the Sox but maybe this lights a fire under Hal’s ass to actually fire Boone and Cashman.
This is going to be their worst season in like 30 years. They will not only miss the postseason, but they will also finish under .500 for the first time in forever and last in the division. If nothing changes this offseason it will confirm what we already knew, that Hal simply couldn't give a singular fuck about winning
Boone will be the first scapegoat. Cash probably still has another year unfortunately
Welcome to the club
Great work everyone keep it up
Who's got next? Ugh, the Nationals. Well, they took two of three from the Sox, so maybe they can extend this skid.
The nationals have been playing better baseball than most team post All Star break. They aren't there yet but they sure are scrappy. If they can take the first two games Yankees would have a 10 game loosing streak.
The Nationals, who are closer to a postseason spot than the Yankees.
I'll allow it
Old school Brooklyn fans are smiling 😀
My grandpa was a Brooklyn fan before they moved. I’m sure he’s happy right now.
Does he cheer for the cards now?
No, he stopped watching baseball after the dodgers left lol. My dad was from near StL tho, which is why I’m a Cards fan in upstate NY.
There are still some elderly Giants fans who still root for the Giants despite having left in 1957
1995 back when they had some guy named Costanza in the front office and they were wearing cotton uniforms? I remember that sad time for this storied franchise.
God, they were awful. Took them 6 games to win the world series
8 games in a row..... so far!
Today was a good day
You love to see it
Oh no. Anyway…
Saw a Yankee fan in the stands wearing a jersey with a World Series patch on the sleeve. It was in really good shape considering how old that jersey must be.
At least it’s 16 years newer than a blue jays World Series jersey 🤷♂️
I'm a Jays fan, but you win that exchange. Also I don't want to seem like I'm being nice to pander for upvotes, so I hope you never get to witness another playoff Yankees team.
Let’s see 9 baby, Washington you have one job to do let’s see it
At this rate they’ll be moving to Vegas by end of September
'The New York Athletics'
I mean we've all been repeating the metaphor for years that rooting for the Yankees is like going to Vegas and rooting for the casinos, so they can just rename themselves the Casinos I guess
Damn right

Hope they didn't have a bonus waiting for an hour for that pick up
No Yankee fan gives that much of a fuck about the Braves lol. Your hatred should be geared towards the Mets
I saw Atlanta @ Boston a few weeks ago wearing my Braves hat and everyone was super nice, from randoms in the hotel, Uber drivers, and even the Boston fans around us. It was a super awesome experience.

Ahahahaha, fuck 'em.
Love to see it
it’s beautiful… 🥹
Let's hope for another decade of front office mismanagement
They have not lost 10 games in a row since 1913. We could be witnessing a miracle.
Be a real shame to go double digits...
That’s nothing. You only know winning. You merely adopted the dark. I’m a Mariners fan. I was born it, molded by it!
when i see that the yankees are in last place and on an 8 game losing streak, i think to myself "yes"
Both NY baseball teams are bad. Reminds me of a time when that was normal for 2 other teams in the same city
You mean the Jets and Giants most years?
This statistic (and the one about “below .500 this late for the first time since…”) just makes me hate the Yankees soooooo much more. An 8 game losing streak should not be this significant lmao.
[Good, good](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsQBeOQfB9g)
ESPN currently has Detroit with better odds in making the playoffs. This has been a weird year.
I'm leaving NYC soon and finally went to my first Yankees game last month. It was against the Orioles, when we lost 14-1. Glad I could support my local team...
You love to see it.
Start spreading the news I’m **LLLLLLLL**eaving today
Friendly reminder that they won 20 of their championships when only 2 teams made the playoffs.
This brings me joy
Inject that shit into my veins.
neutral baseball fans looking around like the avengers in endgame when all of thanos' army turns to dust
New York Baseball is a joke.
love to see it
There isn’t enough dirt to keep them buried for as long as they deserve. I will enjoy these next few weeks while I can.
Goddamit so their gonna win the next 8-10 WS now aren’t they? Just let us have this one and repeat the 95 season.
