One of Armenia's biggest problems, culturally, is that we have a tendency to overrate our history and we tend to be pre-occupied with it. Maps like these, particularly if they're in a university History lecture hall, are not about territorial claims. It instead suggests a different flaw in Armenian culture. The reaction to these maps by Azerbaijanis suggests a difference between Armenian and Azeri culture. I suspect, when Azeris post a map that includes both Azerbaijan and south Azerbaijan, the intention is different. Case in point the "Whole Azerbaijan" map: "The idea of "Whole Azerbaijan" was formulated by Piruz Dilanchi in 1991 [1] and defined in 1992 by Azerbaijani president Abulfaz Elchibey (s. 1992-93). In 1991, Dilanchi founded the SANLM nationalist organization and in 1997 Elchibey founded the "Whole Azerbaijan Union" "

kenwool

Let's be honest, that map does not have the practicality to be used in history classes. It is placed there so that every student entering class can see the "True Mighty Armenia". It is just one of the methods of brainwashing students. Btw, we don't hang unified Azerbaijan maps on our university halls.

Admirable_Novel3702

>Let's be honest, that map does not have the practicality to be used in history classes I know it doesn't. That's why we should stop using them. >It is placed there so that every student entering class can see the "True Mighty Armenia". It is just one of the methods of brainwashing students. I don't know about that. I've never been to Armenia but when we went through the material during Saturday school (and keep in mind I barely paid attention), it was taught more in a matter of fact way. X and Y happened, here's a map of the region in Z year. In all honesty before the 2020 war happened I didn't spend much time thinking about Armenia or Azerbaijan. >Btw, we don't place unified Azerbaijan maps on our university halls. Because the unified Azerbaijan flag, as per its use in the 90s, has a different intention. This one is about historical LARPing. I agree Armenians should stop doing so much historical LARPing.

G56G

This map is psychological torture of these young Armenians. A false hope and a pipe dream. A distraction from their real problems. This is a big part of their national idea Russians are utilizing since the day one. Tragic.

Literaly historical map of azerbaijan(or azeri state etc ı dont know how to name it) on a history book... How the hell is this a wet dream ?

[deleted]

it's not a "historical map of azerbaijan", historical azerbaijan is located in modern-day Northem Iran, What we today call Azerbaijan was historically called arran/shirvan or caucasian albania.

CrazedZombie

The notion of the Saffavids being Azerbajiani is hotly contested but let's disregard that. You do realize what you said applies directly to this post? This is a historical map of Armenia in 50 AD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Armenia_(antiquity)#/media/File:Roman_East_50-en.svg

memaati01

Yeah and we know the historical map of ottoman empire too but we dont hang maps of ottoman empire to everywhere and say "these lands are under the illegal occupation, one day we will take these lands back and rebuild stronk ottoman empire again" unlike armenians Even after first karabakh war armenians claimed "we got artsock back, bakukert and western ancient armenia is our next Target"

CrazedZombie

But you literally just justified doing exactly that but with the Saffavid Empire. Somehow it's a wet dream for Armenians to post a historical map but it's not for Azerbaijan.

GoldenHope_

I think he was trying to point out that the image shared for "Azerbaijanis do it too" was from a history book (same way how it's perfectly fine to show to kingdom of armenia in history book cover), while the Armenian one is on a random classroom in university.

G56G

Sure, but Azerbaijan has not achieved the same level of degree and intensity that Armenia has. Nothing can be ruled out in a region ruled by Russia, but as of now, the difference is clear. The Georgian church also circulates such maps. I think the country behind all this is clear.

[deleted]

They literally claimed that they want to annex iran's historical province of azerbaijan during the military parade in baku, they even call it "south azerbaijan"

Democrowel

"They literally claimed that they want to annex Iranian Azerbaijan". How can you lie with a such a confidence? What a bullshit. It is just one of the many sad poems which depicts separation in Azerbaijani literature and it says "they divided the Araz". Not we will annex İran.

[deleted]

>"They literally claimed that want to annex Iran" Now you are twisting my words, i said that they want to annex Iranian azerbaijan, learn to read.

Democrowel

I edited, you clown. Answer my question. Where did you see it claims annexation of something?

[deleted]

ChopperVonSavoyen

You are downvoted but you are right. There is no logic to pursue irredentist ideas but many states in the Middle East couldn't get over the nation-building phase because you are either too young or you opened your country to the world after a dictatorship. Azerbaijan and Georgia have great potential, they have done many things even though their resources are wasted by the corrupt system for two decades. Let Armenia be isolated with their creepy ideas, you are not in the same classification with them. However, you are distracted by the issues created by them and their puppet masters. I don't want to give the impression of defeatism, but you are shaping your daily agenda as the people wanted to see it this way. It's great to see Azerbaijan finally liberated its occupied territories, but don't let revanchism disrupt you.

You know this is a piss race, I will say Hocali you will say Baku, and these counter-arguments will date back to a hypothetical date. Ask a Russian/Ossetian why Russia had to intervene and he will write a book to you, but a third-way perspective will say it was because of Georgian alignment with the West. If you can't separate your historical animosity from the modern conjuncture, you are doomed to be trapped in a circle of violence and humiliation. If you ask me, screw all Caucasus, Middle East, and Balkans. All of us are just cannon fodder of politicians.

[deleted]

Pogroms against Armenians Predates Khojaly, Nonetheless Both of them should be condemned.

ChopperVonSavoyen

>Nonetheless Both of them should be condemned The whole point is this. Human beings are tended to become savages, and this isn't selective to a specific race and nobody should have to defend those who committed those crimes against humanity.

ToghrulM

If you really want to get in arguments about this whole issue as a georgian objective guy you should research more on problem. If you want to know about deportations I can prefer you to check 1948-1953 and 1988-1991 deportations.

kenwool

That's just a random map of the country that existed in the area of modern Azerbaijan on a 5th-grade History book (it has been now [redesigned](https://www.e-derslik.edu.az/portal/book.php?id=447)). 5th grade Azerbaijan history classes do only cover nations that lived in the region before Turks. This is the real hypocrisy of their mentality.

Ottoman Empire maps are normal when it is History class, we don’t even have territorial maps of the Ottoman Empire(at their peak) in any classroom at all.

We only have Turkey maps here in Turkey. we don't have ottoman, sultanate of rum, or any other

satpower21

satpower21

This is probably a history class(I think someone said that it is in another comment under this post), but the position of the map & how it is located makes me assume that this map is an aspirational map more than a historic one. However this is just making assumptions about a map based on it’s position, which might be entirely wrong. Also, I gave the example of the “Ottoman Empire at their peak” to make the point that we don’t have historic “Greater Ottoman Empire” maps in a classroom at all, even in a History class. At the end, almost everyone in this sub is pissed off about the hypocrisy of the West, including me.

rodoslu

It was not thousands of years, it was only between BC 83 - BC 71

putinDavachan

Who says its armenian map lmao

huseynjabbar

yeah because there is a 3d map of Madagascar hanging on the wall in Baku State University

putinDavachan

There is also a globe, world bizimdir?? Lmao

ToghrulM

Globe shows all countries but this massive map on the wall shows 4 countries' lands as one land.

FashionTashjian

Which, thousands of years ago, yes, this is was Greater Armenia looked like. Yes, before Turkic tribes came, the penulisa was our under control. This is all in relation to a history class. We don't have banners or signs of historical Greater Armenia being flown on billboards or thought to legal students as our rightful lands. This is literally history.

That-Fondant-7562

ahahaa you are an excellent comedian

Still-Mongoose-1200

Why is everyone here so confused. This is a map of Armenian Kingdom of Ararat under Tigran the Great. No where is it claiming that Armenians have aspirations or regaining these lands. The brainwashed ones are the Azeris that truly believe to be native to the Caucasus and think Armenians came there in the 17-18 centuries. The funny thing is that after so many lies none of them tie together anymore. Your Wikipedia articles about our church (founded in 301ad) and our alphabet and our cities and our temples all mention accurate dates yet when it comes to Armenian history the chief brainwashing officer is able to convince Azeris of the funniest dreams. Somehow it’s always left out that Turks came from Central Asia tk the region in the 10-11th centuries.

disappearance331

When it is about the land, we are not native to the region. When it is about ethnicity, we are only small percentage turkic and dominantly locals who got turkified. Can you armenians please decide on one opinion ?

YungVarti

No you’re being to rational. It is a tradition on this sub to take examples, generalize and misinterpret Armenians to the furthest extent from a completely hypocritical standpoint. It’s actually pretty hilarious. It’s funny really, they will take some stupid Twitter post or something post it on their sub and then make comments in range of “they are” “this nation” “these people” etc

[deleted]

It's the kingdom of ancient Armenia. Whats the problem? People do not complain about maps of the Ottoman Empire either
