That person looks like they are about to be taken off the face of the earth
I’ve swam here - This is a beach on Nusa Penida Indonesia.
Im Australian and while we’re known for our beaches and are raised to be pretty aware of the dangers of the ocean, this beach pictured is by far the most difficult place I’ve ever swam.
The beach falls off at an steep angle so the larger waves from the ocean don’t break until the very last minute and it’s extremely difficult to get out of the water due to the immense amount of water “sucking” you back out with each wave.
It’s also about 2 hours trek down the side of a huge cliff on the other side of the main population centre of a fairly remote island.
A guy drowned while I was there - we got him out but didn’t manage to revive him and after 3 hours of CPR (we knew he was gone but his distraught friends wouldn’t let us give up) the “paramedics” got down to the beach only to reveal it was just 4 guys and a body bag.
I’ve stumbled upon this pic a few times and it’s remarkable how well it captures the power of the water on this beach. It’s immense and not to be messed with.
Oohh your description of it gives me the heebie jeebies
The girls i was travelling with had two motorbike crashes on the ride home from this day too. They were understandably distraught.
Penida is incredible but wild - it’s Insta famous status can make people think it’s an entry level destination when it really isn’t.
Is this Kelingking Beach? I'm literally going there tomorrow! I'm excited to go, but I'll stay clear of the waves I guess..
It is. You can’t really steer clear of them, just make sure to stay near the coast and keep track of the oncoming waves to time your exit carefully.
If you’ve swam in this kind of beach before you’ll be fine - it’s just this one’s Insta famous status that makes it particularly attractive to inexperienced swimmers.
I've been in some bigger waves, on the Australian east coast, but not this big and not this close to the beach.. Well be extra careful!
Are you alive
I am! I didn't get dragged out.
The waves were quite high, but not like in this picture 😅
Wait this can't be real? How's the wave so large near the shore, shouldn't it fizzle off by then?
This does happen in some places
Nah, there are plenty of high energy beaches see East and west coasts of NZ.
Shore break. When there’s a steep bank you get this, normally at high tide.
I got got by a shore break at gunamatta beach in Australia. Felt like several bags of concrete hitting me
That’s exactly what I said, sir
Garrapata, California has waves like that
I think this might be Kelingking beach on Nusa Penida island near Bali. I've been there and taken similar pictures - the wave shape, the closeness to shore, the colour.
There is a huge t-rex shaped rocky peninsula that you scale down to get to the beach, and its steepness allows you to get pictures like this without a drone
Google it and see what you think - it is an incredible place.
Oh if it is then I'll be going there tomorrow! I'm excited to go!
Search Nazare Portugal
That place is insane.
Looks like a zoomed in picture, and a tiny person added.
You might be used to carefully sculpted beaches with shallow inclines, and maybe even wave breakers.
Sharp rise in the seabed right next to shore perhaps? I’m just guessing though. 😊
Beach break. I lived on a beach like this. Not always this big, but always very harsh. We also had a lot of sharp volcanic rock so super dangerous if you over estimated your skill and underestimated the ocean. It was a pretty remote unpopulated beach and we had people break bones and drown every year there.
Um, is that person about to die?
He never learnt from King Cnut.
Actual photo of me the day after a holiday weekend getting hit with a crapload of work.
That person is about to be pummeled by that wave
Love this photo!
Photoshop. If you look carefully you can see a line around the figure and shadow.
Photos real, shes just not there but even if she was it would be fine
It’s a deceptive picture. As an artist, I’m ok with alterations, just not the lie of omission- that it was contrived.
The photoshop is strong with this one
It's not photoshopped it's a wave and a beach and a person
Zoom in to the person you can see the photoshop lines around them and the shadow
Literally breath taking!
Mans aboutta drown there
That's beautiful and kinda scary at the same time, I wouldn't like to be that person
Don't worry it looks like that was taken care of rather quickly...
Someone should tell that woman.
Does she know how hard it is to get sand out of your sinuses?
Happy cake day!
Why am I getting boss fight vibes from that wave?
Homie bout to get soaked
Was the picture taken with a drone ?
Can someone photoshop the person out lol
Yell louder, she can't hear you
Do not swim
Bro that person won't be seen again
Wow, those are impressive waves.
thats how my ass looks when i eat taco bell :(
Perfect image of typical monday.
Looks like a dope place to skimboard and bodysurf.
I just hope that person is s good swimmer !!
The waves are beautiful but i feel sorry for that guy walking up the beach.
I would love a large print of this. Gorgeous.
Reminds me of what the shorebreak in Cabo looks like
