Hey, I've removed this post. Lashing out at everyone here isn't OK.

HopAlongInHongKong

It is hard to appreciate the stereo width of two speakers six inches apart, lava lamp or no lava lamp.

CountingNutters

Where's the lava lamp I only see a dildo

Basszillatron

You misspelled butt-plug.

Basszillatron

I think this is a great start! Are you married to this piece of furniture? Kind of feel like that’s what’s holding you back. I say put the turntable on top and put the speakers on stands somewhere else in the room.

Spiritual_Yam7324

When it is hot it becomes a dildon’t

jong9999

You lack wisdom and faith. Anything can be a dildo if you try hard enough

Spiritual_Yam7324

And brave enough. Then you can dildo what you want.

maz-o

it's the dildo looking thing.

Die_woofer

This guy skipped tube amps and went straight for LAVA L-AMPS

macbrett

Speakers are best at ear height when seated, and equally spaced on either side forming a symmetrical triangle with the listening position. Avoid putting the turntable on same furniture as speakers. Acoustic feedback can occur. At worst, when you turn up the volume, it can howl and cause excessive woofer pumping. But even before that it can muddy the bass.

Maybe OP is a lava lamp

alpacasb4llamas

Talk about ableist

parkjv1

At the end of the day, it’s all about this! Separate them and you’ll probably have a better audio experience!

_regionrat

Yeah, speakers should really be face down on the floor

parkjv1

You ask people to rate your first setup! What I gave was constructive feedback! No need to get nasty! If you can’t take what you asked for then maybe you shouldn’t bother to ask for suggestions!

soundsdeep

Haha your gross

quaefus_rex

Turntable seems awfully low. I’d switch the record and TT shelves if you have to use that piece

CreamyAlgorithms

The only thing better would have been if you had the speakers firing into each other.

Xaxxon

That's actually a thing for breaking in speakers (if you believe in that) Point them at each other, flip polarity on one and a lot of the bass will cancel itself out.

mintchan

Treat each speaker as an individual person. Give each of them a place to stand and breathe. Don’t tug them to the wall or the corner like they were being punished. Have them stay at your height like like you are having a conversation with them.

CountingNutters

I face them against each other, Only the strong deserve live

mintchan

And you don’t expect them to gang up on you? Even they were facing one another, you may be the one that suffer

HowSR

Low_Wrongdoer3480

Worst speaker positioning I have ever seen! Congratulations, you definitely win THAT prize.

Xaxxon

0.5 out of 10. edit: I was being generous.

Xaxxon

Wtf? Don't ask for a rating if you can't deal with it. Edit. Original comment personally attacked me and my family.

SaganWorship

I LOVED my Advents when I had them, they were also my starter set, enjoy!

olivecontroller

research how to put them in an equilateral triangle for the best stereo imaging - as for the speakers themselves, they look like smaller advents and can be very rough on amplifiers as they are 4 ohm speakers make sure that the woofers have good foam and the cabinets are sealed - these speakers need to have an airtight enclosure to work properly

cactuzz_jack

Nice gear, horrible placement, batshit Karen attitude.

hobbyass

Terrible

barfwaff1e

Terrible. You didn't say "rate my speakers," you said "rate my setup." Your setup is as bad as your attitude. Rather than shitting in helpful posters' mouths like you said, you should learn a little something about what you're doing. I mean, I know buying stuff is a nice substitute for a personality and girls just don't like you because they're too busy ignoring good guys like you for giga chads, but ffs, when you manage to break the lower threshold of even r/audiophile for bad speaker placement and room treatment, you KNOW you done fucked up. You'd get a better reception posting your comment history on r/AITA. And yes, YTA.

barfwaff1e

If I thought owning things was a flex, my gear would dump on yours. It's not the gear, though, that's just a function of how well/how long you've been playing the capitalist rat race game. What you do with it is a function of your abilities, which need to come up. I'm suspecting this is just an epic shitpost, in which case, well done.

ica_music

To be honest,”being” an audiophile is not a skill set/measure of ability. It’s an expensive hobby. But everything else you said is right. It takes ability to make music, not listen to it.

barfwaff1e

Heh, my bias is showing. Shoutout to you all for bringing the karma on my "hot takes about nerdy shit" account to the positive! LMFAO

[deleted]

The Slowdive flex might have been something 20 years ago, but its been reissued several times over now on vinyl.

vinyl_eddy

I would hate crouching down every time I had to change the record. I’d put it on the top, move the whole furniture over and decouple those speakers from the turntable by putting them on stands on either side.

Mr_Lumbergh

Thumbs-up for Souvlaki on the wall, but yeah, you should spread those speakers apart a bit.

FourthAge

Put turntable on top of the audio rack, speakers on stands & apart, facing listening position. 90% of good sound is speaker placement. You could have $5,000 speakers and they still wouldn't sound right sitting up there like that.

briskwalked

90%? you need good speakers to have good speaker sounds... i would put a very high end set of speakers over some cheap computer speakers with good placement..

FourthAge

Yeah and if your very high end set of speakers are face down on the floor they won't sound very good will they.

JackWaterfalls

😂

mtofsrud

Slowdive = upvote

Puzzleheaded_Copy_3x

Classy speakers B) bit too close together though

tacosauce8088

Well I certainly appreciate seeing Skinny Puppy in your collection.

Hrmbee

If it sounds good to you then it's a good setup. But if it's stereo separation you're looking for that could be a bit compromised.

Fixitboyblue2

Luv da lava lamp

Skid-Vicious

I do not love lamp. Feels forced.

youridv1

3/10. Mono set ups just don't make sense to me. Let's see what playground insult he fires my way.

PatiorSubCaelo

I already mentioned I’m working with low space….idk if you’re unable to read or something

SabihHaider

peachykeen_xlh

Which advents are these?

ForrestFireDW

Advent 3. Also known as the smaller advent. They have a dual firing tweeter. I picked some up at an estate sale previously and reconed them. They sounded alright, but as an acoustic enclosure fan, they did not meet my expectations and I sold them shortly after.

SkunkyMcNugg

2, maybe.

jmlandry77

I have a set of those advents. The famous fried egg tweeter, add a little bacon and you are in business!

Chrispyfriedchicken

You should Google ‘how to set up speakers’ because it really isn’t like how you think it is. To be fair I think most people on this sub could do with joining you too

welivedintheocean

Not a fan of the speaker placement, but Slowdive gets an upvote.

CarpenterPope

I Have some suggestions..have fun

EyesOfRuby1979

Slowdive automatically gives your setup a 💯

spish

Upvote for Souvlaki.

PatiorSubCaelo

keep in mind I’m working with limited space—if anybody knows the model of my advents that’d be real cool to know. I bought this cabinet right before college to fully consolidate my listening equipment, and it’s a real cozy fit. The only problem I face is I can’t have my speakers on listening level, only atop the cabinet, which is fine for now but ideally I know you want them on level with your ear.

ArmedDetectiveAgency

Put them beside your bed in stereo and lie down. You'll get a 'zero gravity' listening experience. That's what I did in my cramped dorms

Xaxxon

Don't post it if you have no ability to take any feedback.

OrangeZig

Exactly.

Alohapaints

Looks like The Smaller Advent Loudspeaker

furdterguson27

They’re advent/3’s! They were my first speakers as well. I really liked them. Like everyone’s saying though you’re definitely going to want to spread them out more and lower them if at all possible. You’ll understand why it’s so important after you do lol.

OrangeZig

Yes but facing them together like that makes no sense. Spread them out.

mourning_wood_again

Very nice. However the Lava Lamp is spoiling your center imaging.

lAmZodiac

A little too much metal for my taste. But you get points for having the velvet underground, Godspeed you black emperor, pixies, and the Souvlaki poster.

Shoegazer83

I dunno but cool souvlaki pic

rocks66ss

adammgrove

Souvlaki I see you have taste

willows_illia

My wife has the same color lava lamp

audiophunk

Achievement unlocked! Lava lamp acquired. ( I've got an identical one ) I get it, I don't have much room for my set up either. I know you like your cabinet, but it may not be the best fit for your situation. Move the cabinet so it's flush with the table to the right, put a speaker on that and procure a makeshift stand for the new space available by the window? Looks like decent stuff. Not familiar with the dayton audio. What's with the tubes? Wayy better than no system at all. Let the music play!

North-Persimmon2221

Nothing burgers

pheriwinkle123

I love Slowdive! Saw them in '92 or thereabouts.

Notquiteretired

Nice love the old advent speakers. Tube sound so much better to me without any harshness for the mids and highs. AT makes great turntables.

fullraph

Loving the Grande!

Deekmeister94

If I were to set up something like this with two speakers, I would use a stereo cable right? A mono cable lying around wouldn’t work would it?

starless23

Well as everyone pointed out the speakers should be way apart. But since you like Slowdive I'm going to give you a 6/10

LakesideMysteries

Slowdive!!

NiceGreenIsntUgly

Does the turntable lid hit the shelf above it? I had that situation once and installed a little hook to hold it open to change/flip records.

MarioCarter

Put the turntable where the CD's are

linkttimes

No bad, my first set up was like this w/ a generic head unit. Shit was bumping. Now I'm rocking a pair of 350 omni mirrages.

OrangeZig

Have a little research into stereo speaker placement… they should not be set up like that at all…

bcklup

So, is the Twinings Chai Tea any good?

PatiorSubCaelo

it’s alright

lasers8oclockdayone

You could really save room if you threw one of those speakers away.

iperblaster

You are just trolling

39pine

Like rig ,hate speaker placement.

Phalstaph44

Don’t know much about the speakers but i like the way they look

Amlan01

Lavalamp 10/10

zinloos_ttv

Should upgrade to a Crosley suitcase player

Alanpina

pretty nice

Unique-Feeling-4182

Love the classic Advents. You will have great stereo separation if you stand just in front of the lava lamp. Or try an open back headphone vibe by laying a speaker on each side of your bed pillow. Be a non-conformist 😉

GeorgeDoga

Is this trolling? 😂

blevingston89

Slowdive!!!

rebradley52

I had several pairs of these back in the day. I used them with my Marantz quad system. They were called the Smaller Advents. Great sound for small speakers as were the larger original Advents.

AmericanDervish

Groovy 👍🏻

beaster_bunny22

Looks cozy, I dig it
