Eren in Japanese sounds like Ellen to (mostly) native English speakers. You didn't seem to pick up on the joke, so others jumped on board lol. I could be wrong though, I just like watching this show. Know nothing about the Fandom or whatever
NGE has not 1 but 2 great endings while aot has a terrible ending. NGE also has more developed and fleshed out characters than AOT. also the artwork of NGE clears AOT
I've started watching it and stopped because I didn't really like it. Like I said comes down to preference and I found AOT artwork a bit better than the Episodes I watched of NGE.
the first time i tried watching it that happened to me, i would suggest giving it another chance. everything from the earlier episodes starts to make sense the further you get into it and the more you find out, it went from boring me on my first watch to becoming one of my favorite shows
