i'm sorry but what the actual fuck!? it feels like the ridiculousness of this anime's story just keep escalating as the episodes goes and i love it!
also, i can see the animators were having fun in this episode with all those different art styles and funny faces, not to mention all those random characters making appearances throughout this episode
> i'm sorry but what the actual fuck!?
The *Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* experience in a nutshell lol
> it feels like the ridiculousness of this anime's story just keep escalating as the episodes goes and i love it!
They were definitely going gentle on us for the first two episodes that aired, after that they hit the gas and never looked back lol
This show has some of the smartest, nimblest and most able writing and it's also very hard to know how to recommend it to people given what an oddball show it is. I mean, the straight forward recommendation is fine - if you like manzi comedy and beautiful animation, it's the others for whom it's tricky.
Still, it's a real treat.
Absolutely nuts -- and I loved it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I expected this to be more "realistic" -- somewhat in the fashion of the (equally delightful and equally neglected) CUE! But it has turned out quite differently.
After today's episode, I can safely say that this is the most slept on show this season. This is literally one step away from being a total shit post of a comedy in the best way possible. From the set-ups to the animation and everything, this is one of the best pure comedy anime I have seen in a long time.
> After today's episode, I can safely say that this is the most slept on show this season.
I'm with you on that. *Phantom of the Idol* is also very close because it's more accessible than *Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* and has more emotional depth, and it's a bit easier to track the characters.
*Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*, however feels like the work of mad geniuses at this point in time, and for once a creation like this has actually got the animation it deserves.
Superb stuff, and it's a massive shame it's not hit a wider audience, although the barrier to entry with this one is pretty high for a range of reasons.
I'm also watching Kami Kuzu. For a couple of episodes, I felt like it was very confused about its target audience. What was it trying to appeal to? Male idol fans? Non-idol fans? Female idol fans?? One moment it was cynical humour and the next moment it was wishy-washy emotional moments. I *almost* dropped it by episode 3-4, but I stuck with it. Now it is one of my favourites this season as well.
Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on the other hand, has a much higher barrier of entry but it only takes one crappy idol game styled character introduction episode before its brilliance starts to show. Both are very good as of now though.

What's your feeling for its audience now we're almost at the end of its run?

I wonder what the political assassination episode was like? In some ways getting to the Full-Teppen15-Experience faster seems to have worked out better.
I am 2 episodes behind on Kami Kuzu, but I think its target audience is people who don't particularly like idols doing idol activities, but isn't averse to stories about showbiz. As in, they don't "unironically like idols I guess." I still skip all of the performances because I'm just not interested, but they started to integrate a lot more dialogue instead of making me watch CGI boys dance for 2 minutes.
Regarding Teppen 2: the lost episode, From the synopsis I read on their page, it looks to be pretty decent. I can't see how it can't be funny to be honest.
After a packed Saturday of seasonals, best way is to cap it off with some Teppen!!!
That guy doesn’t look 60+ at all lol. Glad he and Barbera-san got reunited after all this time. All the detective Komen play stuff had me dying. The humour definitely isn’t for everyone but if you have a grasp of Japanese culture, this is hilarious. Fun episode!
[Love the girls designs so much](https://imgur.com/a/aFggl0c)
Another fun episode - I live how they are dojng anything but manzai and the joy from this show is not the comedy but the ridiculousness of their story and characters.
Piano phobia lmao
> Piano phobia lmao
That one got me too. Those insert gags are quite meta in that they're both the character commenting in-universe, but they're also the character doing comedy inserts from out-universe lol
Another week and another totally-different style. The overall structure was a little predictable for me, but the episode still delivered some funny unexpected punchlines.
I love it when shows double-down on the silliness. Nothing in this episode made sense, and I'm all for it.
I still can't say whether this show is "good" or not but I look forward to it every week. it's like an anime amuse-bouche. the girls are cute, their antics are funny, low stakes, feel good, heavily varied.
There's got to be some shopping show or something that Toichiro's show is a parody of, that is lost on Americans, because it reminds me a whole lot of Tanaka's Amazing Commodities from Persona 3. It's almost got to be either a reference to that, or some real shopping show.
Today's episode was very funny
It's got reference from The Inugami Family.
So I am halfway through this episode and I got bored and wandered over here to let you know I got bored and wandered over here.
For a show that is supposedly a comedy it is really having trouble delivering the laughs and I think I am a pretty easy guy to please when it comes to comedy. The only thing that has kept me coming back to it is the opening, which is a real banger. But the actual show isn't capitalizing on that.
Also, it looks like its rating on MAL has dropped below 7 which isn't a great sign. Give it a season and I'll probably only remember it as a mid anime with a banger opening.
They make a lot of references to obscure Japanese culture so a lot of jokes just go over my head. I feel like this is a great show but I am unable to find its greatness.
Perhaps, and I was hoping the comedy would come through despite the language and culture barrier, but sadly it hasn't done so.
I would like to see if it works for a Japanese viewer because I feel laughter is universal. If a joke doesn't land is it the fault of the recipient or the source?
Perhaps as you become more familiar with Japanese culture, more of the humor will register?
