The fact that it aired in two parts (well I guess sorta three) makes me feel like it’s already two seasons in 😂. It already feels like so much has happens (which is a good thing imo)
Man these shows using part instead of season really confused me some time. I was so sure that S2 was airing. I assume it is because they are so much linked together they name it part instead. Who knows the announcement might be for 86 part 3
Facts. The episode from this week packed such a heavy punch and felt like was in the works for so long (storyline wise, not talking about the literal wait).
86 will go down as my AOTY 2021.
Really man, its a new entry. And it beat AoT with a really emotional episode with big events, with 9% votes, something demon Slayer couldn't do with its insane popularity. I'm looking forward to watching it (since I can't watch anything when AoT airs, everything feels mediocre).
I kept seeing comments like “I’m glad we’re back to action, all the talking was so shit”. Like wtf the context and character building done over the last two episodes was amazing? It built this tension that other shows don’t seem to rival and the pay off was sooo worth it. I hate when people are disparaging episodes just because they have a focus on narrative and characters.
The funniest thing is, they didn't even use the 3 month delay to do anything good for WEP. Social media post leaks from Chinese contracted animators revealed that final episode was only made literally 1 week before it aired at the usual death-defying breakneck schedule.
Because that show suffered on a conceptional level.
When you have a script writer whose first endeavour into TV anime is this project, is known to touch quite the heavy topics and apparently be hard to work with it's hard to establish a proper base.
Add to that a very ambitious but small team who got way too ahead of themselves to the point where the schedules caught up hard on them and you have the recipe for a production meltdown.
Also usually these delays aren't exactly the saving grace people think they are because people do not exactly have free schedules to invest more hours aside from the next project they need to head to.
Kinda feels like a passing of torch moments for me. Now that aot soon ends (hopefully) and a new interesting show that will hopefully take it's place as the new war anime
>will hopefully take it's place as the new war anime
~~Just saying that love is~~ **~~war~~** ~~airs exactly one week after aots final episode of the season~~
Well 86 is almost done as well. There is only like 3 episodes left, it just got delayed in winter season and they had to push the last few episodes back due to timeslot restraints.
For real, that episode somehow had *everything*. How do you make 30 minutes of dialogue feel like 5 minutes? Apparently you just need to be a genius arthouse director in the making lol
The author Asato herself met the anime director for giving suggestion on dialogue-based scenes that's why dialogue feels so natural and filled with emotions.
She attends every production meeting for each episode and also writes original dialogue for the anime-original scenes. The ending of Episode 9 where Lena runs out into the streets as Spearhead is leaving was anime-original. [She wrote 3 pages of dialogue for that scene and gave it to the director.](https://twitter.com/Asakura_Toru/status/1401520819121967113)
> She attends every production meeting for each episode and also writes original dialogue for the anime-original scenes.
That is an impressive level of involvement, and a good example of how not all adaptations are equal. When the author is that involved, the anime and source start to become merely different expressions of their original vision.
If even a fraction of adaptations got the love 86 has gotten then we would be eating so fucking good. It’s honestly a perfect adaptation that enhances the source material through original content and the medium.
To me it was the opposite. Felt like watching the individual phases alone was already enough to conclude the episode. It was THAT impactful, my god. I always check the remaining time and was surprised that there was more.
Ninym and Wein are probably the only couple where I am actually, truly okay with them not “officially” dating. What an amazing relationship!
I started Tensai Ouji at the start of the season for the character designs ~~definitely not because of Ninym’s thighs~~.
I was expecting it to be another fantasy harem, where the romance angle is frustrating af. Even in the latest episode I was pleasantly surprised at how it handled that aspect.
>definitely not because of Ninym’s thighs.
One thing I was shocked about this show is that it has barely any fanservice for what would seem pretty fanservicy character designs
can you elaborate? i hate it when there's 'romance' in a show but the writers avoid making it official by any means necessary through various ridiculous means.
[Tensai Ouji Spoilers]>!Both the characters consider each other as their most important person. They’ve outright said it to each other too. They even have intimate moments together. Both aren’t “tsundere” with their feelings either. The only reason they both aren’t officially dating, is because of the difference in their standings and the reputation of the girl’s race!<.
Lena looks perplexed that she’s on top. You definitely earned this one.
I personally have re-watched the episode several times to appreciate the way they used the cinematography to enhance the story.
> Lena looks perplexed that she’s on top. You definitely earned this one.
''Uh? Where am I? Oh yeah I was supposed to be here some months ago. Guess I got kinda lost.''
Since the episode has come out, I've rewatched all of 86 at least once, all of the 2 season twice and the last episodes 6 or 7 times
No, im not addicted
86 pulling a surprise attack like Eren did against the Warhammer to clinch the first position. Did anyone see this coming? I was expecting it to be 2nd.
I remember a few others saying that, after the delay, 86 was going to absolutely bomb, either from people forgetting about it or not being aware that it was back. So I’m very glad to see that it did so well.
Honestly, I see the anime landscape and see everything profit oriented garbage except AoT and a few. 86 is something I'll watch as a replacement for AoT. It gives me hope.Make it popular, we need all of it adapted.
Phenomenal episode that made me remember again why I really considered Eighty Six my Anime of the Year. Totally deserved!
Also brought back ~8000 votes. The hype was real, and 100% **worth it**!
It still feels surreal to see this episode perform the way it did.
86's anime staff are people everyone needs to keep an eye on, especially Toshimasa Ishii. He storyboarded and directed this episode after all.
Absolutely, he did an incredible job. I saw people saying that it was his directorial debut too, though I didn't see any sources for that so I'm not sure if it's actually true. Amazing episode either way.
It is his directorial debut (you can check MAl and Anime News Network for the list of anime he worked on).
He however, has worked as episode director for a number of shows so in a sense 86 is his debut as a series director.
Lmao you described some of 86’s genres
It’s definitely sci-fi
It has some thriller elements
Also it has some horror elements, though if they decide to adapt more seasons, there’s gonna be more horror elements
Priconne making it back to top 10 brings a tear to my eye.
This season has been a banger with most episodes being spectacular. So it's a darn shame it barely broke 1k upvotes with each passing discussion thread.
I fell behind after the Misaki/Suzuna episode and I totally foresaw shit hitting the fan the episode after, but goddamn I just got done catching up and I did not expect it to hit the fan THAT FUCKING HARD.
All it took for Attack on Titan to finally be dethroned was one of the best anime from 2021 to come back with its best episode. Even with Attack on Titan having a great episode, 86 was a very deserving winner this week. And for reference, I believe that 19.02% is the highest non-Week 1 percentage we've had for an anime not named Attack on Titan.
It's also nice to see Vanitas continue to hold a Top 3 spot and Takagi to get back into the Top 10.
You really should give 86 a try if you haven't. It's one of those rare shows that takes full advantage of the animated medium by making clever use of it's direction and cinematography.
I’m as big of an AoT fan as they come but that 86 episode was just too good. Next week’s AoT episode will be fucking insane tho. 86 finale and AoT penultimate episode, gonna be a fun weekend!
See I see ranking of kings all over the place on YouTube and Reddit but like is it actually good to watch the art style reminds me of those children books you would read with the gold colored spine
It’s incredible, and has a mature and compelling story which kind of subverts the art style, and still delivers incredible fight scenes that Wit is known for. The second OP might be my favorite ever.
I’d say the character development is all over the place in cour 2. It is still phenomenal in animation and story line though. Cour 1 was a legit masterpiece that had my emotions all over the place.
Not surprised at all. But I still think [Vladilena Lena Milize](https://myanimelist.net/character/150824/) of 86 is one of the most underrated female characters in anime I have seen.
Her anime design looks like those ditzy fanservicey female characters from ecchi anime but she is the exact opposite as far as her character goes.
Witnessing her character growing up from 'someone who did not know' to 'someone who willingly became part of it' has been simply a phenomenal experience.
Full of grit and valor, yet compassionate and kind. Anime needs more strong female protagonists like her.
I went in largely blind. I had seen one or two clips, but by the time I finally got round to viewing it, I forgot they came from the show. It's an enjoyable show to watch without preconceptions.
The reaper himself dethroned the devil. But OH man did I cry when [86]>!Lena showed up and everything turned out to be alive!<. I CAN’T WAIT FOR SUNDAY!
Vanitas, D-UD, Bisco, Salaryman club, and Ranking of Kings they were so good. And glad to see Takagi-San breaking the top 10
man i've gotta be honest with sabikui bisco for a moment
It looked super promising from the opening and from the lore of everything, with the flying whales, the Mushroom Keeper clan stuff, the clothing, the cities, the badlands - it all looked like it was going to be super fleshed out and interesting
But we barely get any of it. Instead, we get a semi-average duo with a semi-average old guy coach and two super average female side-characters. And probably the least interesting bad guy I've ever seen, *ever*. The animation was good, even great sometimes, in the first half, while the mushrooms were still interesting. But when you got used to everything and they stopped doing anything new, it just became so lackluster.
Idk if it was just me who felt like it because everyone seems to find it pretty great, so would love some opinions on it
> everyone seems to find it pretty great

Plenty of people think that the show has developed some serious problems in the writing department.
Personally, the writing/directing in those episodes completely ruined the show for me.
86 casually strolling in after a 3 month hiatus to remind everyone how fucking amazing it is. Just the usual. On an emotional and artistic level it’s the best episode of the series. Crazy excited for the finale and praying for a season 2 announcement or tease.
AOT keeps dropping here. Vanitas I get because highest highs mean lows must happen. Though I’m on edge about this arc. Genius got a healthy bump. Everything else dropped 1-3 thanks to the reintroduction of 86 and Genius gaining ground.
Real MVP is the picture choice this week. All on point and from great moments in each episode.
There were production delays near the end of winter so they decided to miss some weeks rather than rush out low quality episodes. Eventually they ran out of time slots (since most anime air on broadcast television) so the last two episodes got delayed until now when some airing slots have opened up.
the delay was fucking worth it
When will the last ep of this season air? This weekend?
Yep! Tomorrow
Perfect, thanks ! :)
And for the anime's anniversary they mentioned an announcement coming in April.
> an announcement coming in April. *please be season 2...*
86 just dropped like a nuke straight to no.1
Really man, its a new entry. And it beat AoT with a really emotional episode with big events, with 9% votes, something demon Slayer couldn't do with its insane popularity. I'm looking forward to watching it (since I can't watch anything when AoT airs, everything feels mediocre).
Demon Slayer was airing when AoT had its best eps. With all toxicity around AoT recent ep. It just doesn't feel good
There was toxicity? I was hyped to have two GOAT animes on at the same time. Sunday was the best.
This recent episode of AoT was really good, though. I supppose the controversy of the last 2 or 3 bled into this one as well, which is a shame.
Attack on titan always did it this way. If it was just nonstop Action scenes for the finale, itd feel very off and drag the series down.
See? THIS is how you do a delayed episode. WTF Wonder Egg Priority.
Wep fell so hard bro it was sad to see as someone following it from the start
The funniest thing is, they didn't even use the 3 month delay to do anything good for WEP. Social media post leaks from Chinese contracted animators revealed that final episode was only made literally 1 week before it aired at the usual death-defying breakneck schedule.

Sadly the creator of that show was in and out of hospital due to stress from overwork I think. I cut them a lot of slack. Still loved that show though
That fucking comeback
86 stonks
Nearly doubling Attack on Titan is an absolutely absurd feat.
To beat the **Devil**, sometimes what you need, is a *Reaper.*
[Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 1] >!Marley: Damn, why didn't we think of that?!<

It legit felt like a movie. Can't wait for tomorrow
Absolutely deserved, and I say this as one of the biggest AOT simp lmao
yeah, that 86 episode was one of the best directed and most powerful episodes ever imo. Absolutely deserved
Kinda feels like a passing of torch moments for me. Now that aot soon ends (hopefully) and a new interesting show that will hopefully take it's place as the new war anime
>will hopefully take it's place as the new war anime ~~Just saying that love is~~ **~~war~~** ~~airs exactly one week after aots final episode of the season~~

Facts
Good timing, seeing as how the 4th season airs next month.
Well 86 is almost done as well. There is only like 3 episodes left, it just got delayed in winter season and they had to push the last few episodes back due to timeslot restraints.
Not 3 but only 1 episode left, which airs tomorrow.
Pain.
Even bigger AoT simp, can confirm, 86 deserved it
The ep was nutty

86 has excellent direction and adaptation, a lot of LN don't get direction like 86
If even a fraction of adaptations got the love 86 has gotten then we would be eating so fucking good. It’s honestly a perfect adaptation that enhances the source material through original content and the medium.
To me it was the opposite. Felt like watching the individual phases alone was already enough to conclude the episode. It was THAT impactful, my god. I always check the remaining time and was surprised that there was more.
I started watching 86 two weeks ago on a whim. And I'm so glad I did, looks like I chose the right time to get on the 86 hype train.
Surprised some shows managed to increased their % with 86 taking 1/5 of the votes People really like Black hair Ninym
The slice of life banter between Wein and Ninym is gold and we were blessed with half an episode of it this week.
Every time a scene opens with just the two of them in a conversation suitable location, I'm all "whooo time for the *good* stuff!".
Its just spice and wolf vibes when it happens, and I am all in for the good stuff.
> People really like Black hair Ninym Everyone just wants to touch it!
You can't it will ruin the dye!
Ninym and Wein are probably the only couple where I am actually, truly okay with them not “officially” dating. What an amazing relationship! I started Tensai Ouji at the start of the season for the character designs ~~definitely not because of Ninym’s thighs~~. I just realized that the most fan service-y scene is Ninym saying Nya.
can you elaborate? i hate it when there's 'romance' in a show but the writers avoid making it official by any means necessary through various ridiculous means.

my friend that is watching the anime with me is a huge black hair Ninym simp. I think you might be onto something
Voice of the chord is living in my head rent-free and I'm loving it
Its my ringtone right now, but i almost tear up every time someone calls
*Its 86 with a steel chair!*
I love that basically all the comments here are praising 86 lol. WELL DESERVED!
Some small minority seem to be hating on it tho, as usual in this sub.
AoT: Damn, how'd they beat us? 86: [Here's The Answer](https://youtu.be/GI2sMndjYf8)
Geez Shin almost doubled SnK in votes, idk about top 4 the only appeal seems to be Nimyn
Lena looks perplexed that she’s on top. You definitely earned this one. I personally have re-watched the episode several times to appreciate the way they used the cinematography to enhance the story.
> Lena looks perplexed that she’s on top. She was probably under the assumption that nearly all the people who might vote for her were dead!
> Lena looks perplexed that she’s on top. You definitely earned this one. ''Uh? Where am I? Oh yeah I was supposed to be here some months ago. Guess I got kinda lost.''
The borders, the lighting, the character expressions, everything was just so *meaningful*.
Since the episode has come out, I've rewatched all of 86 at least once, all of the 2 season twice and the last episodes 6 or 7 times No, im not addicted

That episode of 86 was phenomenal! It gave me chills and goosebumps. I'm hoping it gets a season 2.
Especially the symbolism
Yes! Everything about that episode was top notch.
Our girl Lena appearance and Shin breakdown, well done, worth the wait
Just had a marathon of 86 yesterday and it really does deserve that top spot! Can't recommend it enough!
86 pulling a surprise attack like Eren did against the Warhammer to clinch the first position. Did anyone see this coming? I was expecting it to be 2nd.
Counter attack mankind
For the people wondering why Eighty-Six came out of nowhere and doubled the best numbers: Yes it was THAT good.
I remember a few others saying that, after the delay, 86 was going to absolutely bomb, either from people forgetting about it or not being aware that it was back. So I’m very glad to see that it did so well.
And to be fair people were waiting for this.
I just watched it, I can't believe people waited 86 days for this it must have been hell counting down
It took forever, and it was worth every second.
It helps that Marin, Jeanne and Ninym held the Fort for me while waiting.
Was it actually 86 days?
Since the announcement of the delay it's exactly 86 days.
Honestly, I see the anime landscape and see everything profit oriented garbage except AoT and a few. 86 is something I'll watch as a replacement for AoT. It gives me hope.Make it popular, we need all of it adapted.
Ranking of Kings is very far from "profit oriented garbage". This show has a soul and the art direction is gutsy
I agree. That show came outa nowhere.
Calling everything "profit-oriented garbage" after 2021 is kinda... weird. Did you not watch any anime last year or what?
86 IS HERE BABYYYYYYY but also ending, RIP
Good to see 86 doing well
Phenomenal episode that made me remember again why I really considered Eighty Six my Anime of the Year. Totally deserved! Also brought back ~8000 votes. The hype was real, and 100% **worth it**!
Yeah I had hoped it would still do well after such a long break, but didn't think it would do so well. Super pleased, to say the least.
~~If~~ Fuck that, *inhales hopium* When Eighty Six Season 2 gets adapted, I hope he comes back as the director.
Is 86 worth watching? I usually prefer thriller/horror/sci-fi anime
Lmao you described some of 86’s genres It’s definitely sci-fi It has some thriller elements Also it has some horror elements, though if they decide to adapt more seasons, there’s gonna be more horror elements
> there’s gonna be more horror elements So much of this if Season 3 is green lit. Volume 4 almost made me throw up on the latter half of the LN.
Damn I never got close to that in volume 4… but volume 5 made me a bit queasy in that one scene
> sci-fi anime Check it out then!
86 has Sci-fi. There is a bit of psychological aspect as the series progresses, and if they adapt more, that aspect will ramp up as well.
Definitely. It's a great sci-fi war anime.
Hell yeah it is!
just 86 nothing to say more
What is 86 Eighty-Six about?
It is a military drama involving themes of fascism, racism, genocide, PTSD, and survivors guilt. Also best waifu of the season.
LETS GO 86 FINALLY BACK
I love both 86 Eighty-Six and Attack on Titan so i see this as an absolute win!! 86 really deserves #1 for last week episode...
FUCKIN' GLORY TO THE SPEARHEAD SQUADRON! Well deserved.

86 dub and vanitas 3rd yessir
86 worth it
That distance between AOT and 86... WOW! But that 86 episode was really amazing. A satisfying answer after all the waiting!
86 watched AoT bullying the other great shows on the chart and said: "LISTEN UP, TROUBLEMAKER!"
All it took for Attack on Titan to finally be dethroned was one of the best anime from 2021 to come back with its best episode. Even with Attack on Titan having a great episode, 86 was a very deserving winner this week. Honestly didn't think I would see the Day It's a feat. I should Probably start watching 86.
You really should give 86 a try if you haven't. It's one of those rare shows that takes full advantage of the animated medium by making clever use of it's direction and cinematography.
I want to see this list two weeks from now without AOT (it will be on a break), it will be Vanitas time
Vanitas needs to shine now it deserves it this part 2 has been amazing I hope more people give it a chance.
NGL 86 deserves it. Love that anime.
Now I'm really hyped to see 86's episode
Number 1 is absolutly deserved. That episode felt like a movie
I’m as big of an AoT fan as they come but that 86 episode was just too good. Next week’s AoT episode will be fucking insane tho. 86 finale and AoT penultimate episode, gonna be a fun weekend!
86 is a W, now give us that second season
See I see ranking of kings all over the place on YouTube and Reddit but like is it actually good to watch the art style reminds me of those children books you would read with the gold colored spine
It is a great anime. Amazing characters and good story. And best boy.
It's great
It’s incredible, and has a mature and compelling story which kind of subverts the art style, and still delivers incredible fight scenes that Wit is known for. The second OP might be my favorite ever.
I know the story is good so I'll gonna binge watch it when the season is complete.

86 taking its rightful spot lol The last episode arguably could’ve been the best episode of 2021 if it showed when it was supposed to.
86 on top and Princess Reconnect making it back to the top 10 [](#awe) I love to see it.
Something tells me I made a good choice to hold off on 86 until it finishes airing so I can binge it all in one go.
Finale is tomorrow so looks like you’re good to go

underrated? isn't she like best girl on animecorner spring 2021? but yeah lol i rarely saw anyone talking about her outside of the fandom.
Definitely adding 86 to my watch list even though I don't know what it's about.
I went in largely blind. I had seen one or two clips, but by the time I finally got round to viewing it, I forgot they came from the show. It's an enjoyable show to watch without preconceptions.

> everyone seems to find it pretty great Have a look at the episode discussion thread for Ep 8 and 9: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/t3i7nn/sabikui_bisco_episode_8_discussion/ https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/t8rr6j/sabikui_bisco_episode_9_discussion/ Plenty of people think that the show has developed some serious problems in the writing department. Personally, the writing/directing in those episodes completely ruined the show for me.
Think it's time to watch 86
86 be like: # I'M BACK
Raking of kings was really underwhelming... And somewhat of the plot was kinda dumb
Welcome back, 86, albeit for only 2 weeks. Absolutely phenomenal episode! Masterful directing
> Genius gaining ground. All hail soldier girl Zeno
86 LETS GOOOO
86- i think its a well deserved spot this week. the episode was absolutely breathtaking.
Fantasy Knockout is so fucking good. I'm glad it's in the top 5. It deserves recognition. I haven't laughed at an anime this hard since Konosuba
I absolutely love 86, it always make me think of the line and poem. "Because I could not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me." - Emily Dickinson
Well deserved, 86!
Kings Raid is a lot better than I was expecting
What happened to 86? Why are the episodes airing so late?
There were production delays near the end of winter so they decided to miss some weeks rather than rush out low quality episodes. Eventually they ran out of time slots (since most anime air on broadcast television) so the last two episodes got delayed until now when some airing slots have opened up.
Production issues
I just watched 86 s2 since it came back, I can't wait for the last episode of the season
You should be proud of yourself hits f'king hard xD, + 1 anime that managed to make me cry
I'm thinking of the AE86.
Makes sense, the episode they dropped was pretty darn fantastic, imo it was worth the wait, I only wish they measured out the delay to exactly 86 days
My Dress Up Darling and Takagi-san are 1 and 2 in my heart and that's all that matters.
I know deep down bisque is killing it on other pollings but Ill gladly allow 86 and Vanitas to shine on anime corner
