spectre15

Wow. I’m at a loss for words. That was a surprisingly great first episode.

MyLittleRocketShip

feels like flcl music edition but with sakuga that can make you harder than hentai. the action scenes and comedy scenes were so fun to watch, neverending enjoyment.

child_of_amorphous

for the record flcl does also have orgasmic sakuga

IndependentMacaroon

FLCL is already music edition

[deleted]

Visually stunning but story and characters arent doing anything for me yet, feels pretty bland in that regard. Hoping for more interesting and refreshing bits. Comedy wise i felt like I've seen/heard all those jokes before

melindypants

I felt the same way. I'm not sold on the show yet.

timoyster

Ngl the show’s pretty forgettable at best except for the animation Kinda bland and generic

Nefarious_24

I assume the final boss is at Carnegie Hall?

The_Parsee_Man

How will they get to Carnegie Hall?

Nefarious_24

Practice

obscureSFFreference

Any twosetters

III_Raijin_III

40 hours of it

8andahalfby11

To be fair, that's what Cosette argued they should be doing this chapter.

zairaner

40 hour eating practice?

koala_on_a_treadmill

That's where the Grand Maestro is, apparently. Also an amazing musical instrument. The grand piano, maybe? Something better?

DArkingMan

Better be a full on organ at some point.

FurSealed

Recorder

hoseja

[The finale.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG6EtT-mReM)

babla11001

The fight scenes are really awesome

Silent_Shadow05

The visual effects and the music also enhances it by a lot. I also loved the red aesthetic throughout the fight scenes. [This particular shot was my favorite one in the episode](https://i.imgur.com/QUQLkXt.jpg).

babla11001

Cossete red eyes are really beautiful

vlexz

Reminds me of zero two. I get what you're saying, but her eyes are blue, the eyeliner is what is red.

babla11001

That red eyeliner really suits her

vlexz

Absolutely! Zero Two got competition.

babla11001

Tough competition

Msyuu

This shot gave me goosebump, it felt soooo good !

kawaii_sugiru

Well, The Storyboader Takahiro Miura has storyboarded Infinite train movie, and Heaven's Fell. So, HE knows his stuff.

zerokosong0000

so that's the reason why it felt like watching a Fate series.

l_lawliot

Every time she pulled out the red thing it felt like EA.

Bigbadbobbyc

Every time she shot forward felt like saber

KelloPudgerro

i feel like heavens feel is a step above infinity train purely due to music, boom random unasked for opinion right in your face

Soap646464

I think if your looking at it objectively , it's very hard to say that Demon Slayer is above Heavens Feel (especially lll) , I mean it is Ufotable's Magnum Opus. If you like Demon Slayer more on a personal level , that's completely fine

Mundology

Heaven's Feel got some of the best fight scenes I have seen in all anime. A mesmerizing visual spectacle. [](#gintamathispleasesme)

hsaviorrr

the saber/rider was prob the best fight scene i’ve ever seen in anime

nuraHx

I don't think many people will remember this specific scene but that one quick cut of a closeup on Sabers face near the end of their fight with all the colors reflecting on her face and eyes is one the best looking moments of any anime I've seen. Idk why I resonated with that specific couple seconds so much and I doubt most people even know exactly what I'm talking about but that scene was so amazingly aesthetically pleasing to my eyes that I don't feel like anything I've ever watched has come even close to the feeling that scene gave me. I'm probably sounding super exaggerated and over the top but I just wanted to put it out there.

Izzius

[This?](https://i.imgur.com/1J3BzkL.mp4) I absolutely remember it. I agree, it was such a *crisp* frame, I was amazed at how much detail went into like half a second of movie. Ufotable just good with eyes I guess.

nuraHx

YES YES YES THATS THE SCENE! So fucking good dude. I wish I would have gotten into fate earlier so I could have experienced it in theaters but oh well. This scene is unforgettable for me.

hsaviorrr

oh yeah of course, the detail in her eyes for that particular moment was amazing. reminded me of vivy’s eyes if you’ve seen that anime, they do a lot of close up shots similar to that (basically the studio flexing lol)

nuraHx

Yup I've seen it too and you're absolutely right. Vivy was so damn good too. Jeez so many great stuff to watch lately.

hsaviorrr

glad i knew which specific scene you were talking about lol, but yeah vivy really spoiled us with those kind of eye shots and the action scenes and choreo were just as good as fate too!

rizo536

Yes! The way her eyes widen in surprise, the transition from the debris in the foreground, it's all SO GOOD DUDE

DustyTurboTurtle

I'm willing to bet most of the people who say that demon slayer is better than Heaven's Feel haven't even heard of Heaven's Feel lol It's a damn shame

GregerMoek

I think the type of story you enjoy will dictate what you think is better as a whole. But the fight scenes in isolation yeah I agree with you. Personally ofc I did very much prefer HF cause it was the one I was most hyped to see in anime form.

hyrulia

Even HF II is above Kimetsu

Ebo87

You are saying that like HF 2 is bad or something. First of all I would say all are great movies (Kimetsu included), and I think purely ranking the HF movies, for me 2 is the highest followed by 3 and 1. But again this is just personal opinion, and also kind of silly in the grand scheme of things considering all three are kind of parts of a whole. Can't really watch any one of them without the others, so it's really more like one epic 6 hours anime movie that somehow could have still used an extra half an hour (I don't think I'm alone in saying HF 3 was rushed in some parts).

MyAngelKami

I mean, i'd say Heaven's Feel is just way above Infinity Train in more than one aspect. If you like Infinity Train due to personal taste then it's fine. But i swear HF is just way better objectively speaking

Secure_Ad1628

I wonder if he left Ufotable? He occasionally worked outside of the studio but this year was fairly more frequently (he apparently was in the FGO Solomon movie, in TPN 2 and now in this)

kawaii_sugiru

He was highly involved in the fate franchise. And, Fate franchise has ended now, atleast from the ufotable side of things. So, ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Groenboys

*looks at the studios who are making the anime* I mean, are we really surprised by that?

i_love_rem

To be fair, the name Madhouse doesn't carry as much weight as it used to, sadly.

Manitary

A shame, always worth at least checking out at least their originals (just saying, the last in chronological order are sonny boy, yorimoi, death parade). It's also probably a staff thing mainly, I don't need to check to know that Chihayafuru s3 and Shoumetsu Toshi were done by different people.

SociallyAnxiousBoxer

Sonny Boy is such a gem

[deleted]

They are slowly getting better thoo. They are cultivating some great staff, and their producers are really good.

[deleted]

I mean, actually kinda yes? Most of the time it' s the staff that actually let productions be good, not much the studios, and It kinda shows. Madhouse, until a couple of years ago, lost a majority of their staff ( HxH staff going away to found their Volt studio, losing the Studio Nut people, losing a lot of Key staff to Mappa, Sunrise, Production IG and M2, ecc.). And even now, most of their best staff is all freelancers. Same with Mappa, but even worse. Even their best products, like JJK, are plagued with a LOT of problems ( in general, very terrible compositing. JJK got the short term of the stick. The photography and CGI of that show is really terrible, despite the amazing animated cuts. Without fotgetting the fact that, thanks to Mappa being such a terrible studio for their workers, the director of JJK barely worked on the first 10-11 episodes because he needed to andle God of Highschool, and they are devoid of any kind of good art direction, or general good direction in anything that isn' t an action scene where a freelancer got free storyboarding space). Case in point, the reason why this first episode looked so good, was also thanks to the fact that neither studios handled compositing ( all works of MadBox), and that the main action storyboarder was the guy that worked on the Heaven feel films, and his fingerprints are all over the place ahah.

TheHeroWeNeed01

Will madbox and the main action storyboarder will stay for the rest of the season or it was especially for this episode to impress?

[deleted]

MadBox is gonna remain for sure. The action storyboarder, eeeeeh. We don' t know. I know that he has contacts with the team working on the future CSM adaptation, so idk if he' s gonna go there or just keep working on Takt. Or maybe just go yolo and work on a Slice of Life ahah

Bazinga8000

Although miura, the storyboarder, did obviously influence a lot of the visuals thanks to some terrific action direction, we cant really say he was the reason behind the best animated scenes. That credit would probably go to Yuichiro Fukushi, the animation producer on the madhouse side of the show.

[deleted]

Absolutely! After all, someone NEEDS to male the actual animation ahah. But it' s impossible to deny that Miura really showed his stylistic experience here, more than everybody else.

cppn02

That must have been some loud ass piano lol. Good first episode. I like the main trio, visuals are GREAT and a surprising amount of humour.

PREM___

I never imagined I would ever laugh at someone just falling over but here I am

Calwings

We got a hilarious faceplant out of *both* main characters in the first episode, plus I'm loving the banter between the group too.

nuraHx

Stone cold face: "I failed" *faceplant*

tlst9999

The "COSETTOOOO!!!" sold it

buffdaddydizzle

Yeah, this is what turned a chuckle into a full on belly laugh for me. Just caught me off guard and I loved it!

mrbrinks

Her being mad at the donut made me laugh so hard and I have no idea. The three characters all have such a good dynamic.

DatSchaml

> I never imagined I would ever laugh at someone just falling over but here I am Same here! [And even Homer agrees.](https://youtu.be/byYybOZsGXQ?t=8) A great arrangement of music, humor & sakuga so far. Can't wait for the next episode, hoping it will continue on an equally high level.

MyLittleRocketShip

was expecting a more serious tone but im honestly liking the more silly direction theyre taking too. there arent a lot of shows out there that take a carefree tone and do whatever the fuck they want, and instead try to build up a deep and well-built plot. but the silliness matches the intensity and craziness of their fights and serves to keep the action going with slapstick comedy. is this what symphogear fans think their anime is?

mirrormimi

It's giving me mad FGO Babylonia vibes with the dialogue and type of humour.

Silent_Shadow05

>a surprising amount of humour. Loved that scene where [Cosette threw Takt](https://i.imgur.com/HGrpjtA.jpg) into the car, like he [weighed nothing](https://i.imgur.com/p1bs8zz.jpg) at all.

Msyuu

Seeing how she carried the Piano, Takt weight really mean nothing to her

razzec_phone

Just like his opinion lol

Teglement

Outstanding first episode, honestly. I kept my expectations in check with this one. The summaries made it seem like it could turn out to be some overly serious convoluted mess that tried to blend action and idols, but that seems to be FAR from the truth. I couldn't stop grinning through the whole episode. I think it's gonna wind up being stupid in the greatest possible way. I'm REALLY glad I picked it up and can't wait for next week.

ChiefSakeef

Takt and Cosette are psychos, I already love them.

MyLittleRocketShip

pays for a plate of pancakes, destroys half the diner. dinerworker: "thank god, we have help to save us."

E-tan123

I mean... it wasn't like they were gonna get many customers anyway. At least this way, they eventually got rid of the problem and gives the diner the potential to get customers.

BosuW

Yeah but it'd be nice not having to pay for a new window, especially since they're not making much income atm

MyLittleRocketShip

dont know about trying to justify the lack of care the citizens have for their property. they completely destroy a marketplace and its fine. the diner doesnt even know if they can properly get rid of the monsters and yet they destroy half of it without permission, instead of easily just exiting through the front door. there's nothing wrong though, it matches the silliness of the show. youre trying to justify someone destroying your house without your permission because they have a chance to build you a new one. its not supposed to make sense.

Mecha_Link

I'm getting fantastic Vivy-esque vibes from Cosette. More kuudere leads please!

ali94127

I got more Violet Evergarden feels. I'm guessing like the spirit of the Musicarts or whatever inhabit human bodies or something.

Brandon98765

I mean the theme is kinda similar to vivy too. Music + Action + Goated Animation but highly doubt this one will go dark.

OnyxPuma

Cosette and anna is literally the patrick and manray meme: Anna: so cosette, youre broken. Cosette: yup. Anna: and you want to kill all d2, but to do that, you still need to be fixed up in new york first. Cosette: makes sense to me Anna: so stop fighting d2 and fix yourself! Cosette: *sprints through a fucking wall straight toward d2*

Fuck_Taha_Emre

"This is music" Bruh you just used a rod and a sword to kill that guy wtf u talking about?

Atario

Making "knockin 'em dead" literal

Ghoste-Face

Yooooo the fight scene looks clean as fck, i also like the aesthetic and the coloring too. Sasuga MAPPA and Madhouse! Also finally get to see LAM arts on anime! This is probably one of those animes that’s going to make me motivated in practicing my instrument lol Cosette’s already a favorite… Actually all three of them are great. Music in this episode: - Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, “Fate” - Beethoven: Sonata quasi una fantasia, No. 14 in C# Minor, “Moonlight”, 1st Movement - -Beethoven: Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, “Pathetique”, 2nd Movement

PeepAndCreep

MVP

koreankimochi

I'm gonna look forward to this song list every week now yessss

ObjectiveEmotional

Hey man, I was wondering if you will mention the musics in anime until the end cause im going to make a playlist out of it..

superspy218

I'm in awe at the visuals. It's so nice. And my gosh [she's beautiful](https://i.imgur.com/ET2r1yd.jpg) as heck. Looking forward to next week's episode!

Bazinga8000

This first episode was done at madhouse! A lot of great action scenes through out the entire episode thanks to the also really great staff! I dont think im sold on the story just yet, but the characters do seem to have quite a bit of chemistry, so i would say its actually fairly promising, hoping for amazing things.

Manitary

Same, I hope the story doesn't get flat; for example, 11 episodes of travels to NY and 1-2 fights each epi with little development/new characters and/or repeating the "they just go fighting and don't listen me" joke to death. Other than that, I love pretty much everything so far, especially the character designs, Cosette and Takt in fighting stance are gorgeous and cool. edit: re-thinking about it, my actual worry is the enemies. The reason being, since this is gonna be a game too, I hope the enemies aren't just these random creatures and they expand the lore or make the interesting in some way other than their shape. This was also one of my gripes with Toji no Miko (another anime with a game), where most of the "trash mobs" they fight are kinda pointless and boring. Maybe I'm just overthinking, it may also not be a huge deal, as long as the main cast keeps being cool and entertaining.

Google-Meister

I think it will be more like Symphogear where these are the non-ending mobs that wont amount to much later into the story. I'm expecting a main villain or maybe even a musicist that went rogue to be their enemy.

platysoup

> I'm expecting a main villain or maybe even a musicist that went rogue to be their enemy. Didn't they mention some Grand Maestro or something? I bet he's gonna be the big bad.

CaRoss11

Was thinking something similar. The mention that he had promised to end this conflict years earlier implies a lot.

MyLittleRocketShip

dont worry. jojo part 3 came out 7 years ago. its over. dont worry. but fr, i dont think theres anything to worry about. the story seems to have an overarching narrative set up with the past flashback of the conductor holding a blond girl, their narrative of how they got together, their different passions, and mostly importantly different ways a single focused enemy of d2s can influence the environment. doesnt seem like a stand of a week formula.

MrkGrn

I'm guessing that bit where Takt saw Destiny die in his arms is gonna be important plot wise. Definitely enough nuggets to keep me interested past just looking amazing.

PREM___

I need a 1hr version of Casetto just falling over

SHINDEIRUDE

Wait a minute this show isn’t about tank tops and their destinies... Looking good though! Loving the character designs.

HayashiSawaryo

Btw, the character designs are done by LAM https://twitter.com/ramdayo1122

Anushkvijay

is LAM a famous character designer?

Silent_Shadow05

Check their [Pixiv](https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/17429/artworks). They have some really cool artwork. Prime r/streetmoe material.

Anushkvijay

Ah, these gorgeous eyes will awaken a new fetish in me

Atario

Oh shit, Ollie's mama!

Sedewt

In case you all haven’t realized yet, LAM is the illustrator/mama of Kureiji Ollie from Hololive ID.

HayashiSawaryo

They design some vtubers before They are also involved in quite some game character designs

PREM___

Man day by day I feel like I should just get into the VTubers thing

bcus_im_batman

Hololive Kureiji Ollie's mama, i supposed?

MyLittleRocketShip

music, glutton loli with pretty eyes that goes from blond and white, to the biggest performance dress of her life. her robotic but filled with personality voice too. im dead. 😩 also tank top onee san. this show definitely going to have some s tier waifus that dont wind down this season.

SolubilityRules

Wait, so... Madhouse + MAPPA = Ufotable? **a stunning result!** It has a good amount of mystery too, so the clues everywhere will keep viewers engaged

lock330

The ufotable style is probably because of the in house composition team at madhouse called Madbox there stuff tend to look very ufotable like.

8andahalfby11

> It has a good amount of mystery too Really? Between this and the OP, I feel like I've already solved everything.

[deleted]

i think the mystery is trying to figure out what was mysterious XD. /s yeah i agree, wheres the mystery?

SolubilityRules

Ok, then please answer for everyone: 1.) Why are the monsters surrounding the pianos? And not destroying them? (If they hate good music) 2.) Why does Cosette look like the girl in Takt's reminiscing? 3.) Why is Takt so obssessed with music? 4.) What is the connection between Musicarts, Composers, and the monsters? One monster could take on an imperfect humanoid form 5.) What are they doing travelling around USA? 6.) Why is there no English Dub?

8andahalfby11

1) They hate the music itself, not the device that creates them. They cannot distinguish that far. 2) The girl died. Plot Magic brought her back the way we see her as an Instrument. Part of why they're going to NYC is to see if they can get her memory/personality back. 3) It's his main hobby, but it became something more when the alien invasion started. 4) Already explained in the first two minutes of the story. It's all derived from the same space crystals, the msuicart/composer stuff from the orange ones, the monsters from the black ones. 5) They're trying to get to NYC, as stated in the episode. 6) Originals aren't backed by a guaranteed audience. No audience, no profit, no point.

Calwings

[Panty & Stocking season 2 looking lit af](https://i.imgur.com/HfEkRXs.png) But seriously though, that was an awesome first episode. The animation was fantastic in the fight scenes, the witty banter between the main trio was hilarious in the rest of the episode, and while we didn't get much story yet beyond "we need to get to New York, also there are monsters and we're righting them", I think the setup has a lot of potential to develop into something great later on. Definitely a passing grade so far.

moichispa

Yeah I also tough about that P&S reference, I hope we get more scenes like this one.

Calwings

I hope all of the "explaining what happened off-screen" sequences are animated in that style. It's funny.

SkullcrobatTheGod

I loved that part, glad to see more people mentioning it

Se7en_Sinner

I'm just happy the music for an anime about music doesn't suck. Now that would be ironic.

Bonvantius

It also helps that the sound design is on point.

koreankimochi

The little bits of sound effects from the weapons' starting up, and the random pings and jingles and crackles sprinkled around the fight scenes were so crisp and so satisfying.

Mockingbirdguy

When you have an anime about music its an absolute obligation to have the best music possible

SirRHellsing

Macross, Love Live etc the music for them are generally good in my opinion

LabMember069

Wow the first 5 or so minutes are 10/10. Cosette is psycho, who the fuck eats cookies like this.

LunarGhost00

> Cosette is psycho, who the fuck eats cookies like this. The same kind of psycho who hates donut holes.

dagreenman18

She’s just objectively wrong about the donuts. Really is a Useless Musicart.

Silent_Shadow05

Cosette reminds me of Shionne from ToArise with their gluttonous nature.

MyLittleRocketShip

seasonal waifus that wins everyone's heart with eating sounds.

HayashiSawaryo

Mappa madhouse really bring out their A game here Imagine animating all those fight scenes plus playing the musical instruments

Abysswatcherbel

With the storyboard in this episode by Ufotable's Takahiro Miura, which did the storyboard for Heaven's feels and a bunch of Fate episode/openings + Demon Slayer Mugen Train Don't know if he will be back for more, not unlikely Edit: Also worth mentioning Tatsuya Yoshihara as key animator, action director for Chainsaw Man and former Black Clover fanfavorite

redmage311

The MC reminds me a lot of Vanitas from last season. And Colette really needs to learn how to use doors—humanity probably can't deal with all the random property damage right now. *Man* those were cool fight scenes though.

zairaner

When I first watched the trailer (with the "unleash the sound" scene), I was honestly shocked afterwards to find out they have different voice actors

hellofrommarrrss

Haha he kinda does remind me of vanitas.

arcimillio

>The MC reminds me a lot of Vanitas from last season Vocally or character wise? coz Vanitas reminds me a lot more of Lelouch. This MC looks perfectly normal (keeping music love aside) and non hysterical.

fdajax

Man I am in love with the character designs, very crisp and the red eye shadow is 👌

LeonKevlar

###Stitches! * [Angry Anna](https://i.imgur.com/lsCdlld.jpg) * [Musicart Cosette](https://i.imgur.com/QtmuRsX.jpg) * [Cosette Yeeting Takt GIF](https://gfycat.com/dazzlingsinfuljavalina) [That storybook style](https://i.imgur.com/9RI5YEB.jpg) retelling of their world's backstory looked so good! I'd totally buy that if that was a real thing. Not gonna lie, the opening scene had me bamboozled! As soon as [I saw the mom reading the story to her kids](https://i.imgur.com/qHCSWCN.jpg), I thought the kids were going to be our protagonists and something was going to happen to the mom [when the boy wanted to wander into town.](https://i.imgur.com/MJycyWf.jpg) They make it seem like the boy going to be very important [since he finds the piano](https://i.imgur.com/RGQ1pzq.jpg). But nope! Turns out our MC [is this dude that presses the piano keys](https://i.imgur.com/saYhiWv.jpg) before the kid. Right from the get go I was wondering how a world without music can even exist but turns out music can [attract these monsters called D2](https://i.imgur.com/a3Gi1lr.jpg) and our dark-haired piano player here [is a Maestro](https://i.imgur.com/oNY1dMw.jpg) that works [with a Musicart](https://i.imgur.com/Yx4rg0B.jpg) to take down these D2s. And what an amazing opening fight that was! [Cosette pinning that D2 to the building](https://i.imgur.com/tcufO7L.jpg) was just too fucking awesome. It looks like this show won't be too serious though because as soon as the fight was over [we get to watch Cosette and Takt argue](https://i.imgur.com/M1Hca0T.jpg) which was really entertaining [especially when Cosette yeets Takt into the car!](https://i.imgur.com/VO7jU1U.jpg) xD That conversation while inside a car really establishes their personalities well! [We have Takt who's very much music obsessed](https://i.imgur.com/oJHgy0L.jpg) despite the dangers of D2 and [Cosette who's very robotic and a bottomless hunger](https://i.imgur.com/mmVYxuM.jpg) which I assume is because of her being a Musicart. [There's also Anna](https://i.imgur.com/MW8Muq3.jpg) who basically acts as their handler and Cosette's older sister. I already like them all especially Anna's design. <3 Of course that fight against the underground D2 in the second half of the show was insane! I love how Takt draws it out by playing Moonlight Sonata. And just look [how badass the two of them fighting back to back!](https://i.imgur.com/8GyxlhW.jpg) I did notice that [being a Maestro is very taxing for Takt.](https://i.imgur.com/PXFBRoq.jpg) That redness crawling out of his torso can't be good. They did manage [to beat that huge D2](https://i.imgur.com/QrwsHN9.jpg) and we get [my favourite shot of the episode.](https://i.imgur.com/OMH835t.jpg) This was fucking awesome. An absolute strong start and I can't wait what kind of crazy fights we'll see especially with MAPPA and Madhouse collabing for this anime project! I'm already hyped for the next episode!

Abysswatcherbel

You missed [the actual best shot](https://i.imgur.com/C6y6wPH.png) in the episode

LeonKevlar

I mean yes that too. God, Anna is so hot. [](#hnng)

Abysswatcherbel

And we have still a bigger Onee san, Charlotte, we are eating good this season

flybypost

That cut was so nice, especially with the sound of the wind. Just catching the last bit of sunshine in the evening.

Manitary

> Cosette Yeeting Takt GIF Thanks, that was an adorable yeet

SkullcrobatTheGod

I really liked the start style when Cosette was explaining what went wrong in her fight alone, i'm kinda surprised not many people are talking about it

StarmanRiver

> and we get my favourite shot of the episode. "I ask of thee. Art thou my Master?"

markevans7799

Not going to judge on the story yet, but if you're watching this mainly for the animation and visuals holy shit we are in for a treat

Bonvantius

So it's road-trip Symphogear with classical music and Red Saber? Sounds like my kind of party!

LunarGhost00

*Monsters blocking their path* Takt: I sleep. *Can't play music in this little restaurant* Takt: REAL SHIT?! Not sure where this story is going (other than New York apparently) but I'm liking the slightly dysfunctional dynamic these 3 have going on so far. Their priorities are all over the place.

heartscrew

Isn't this just a bigger budget version of Mappa's Listeners?

applebyarrow

Hopefully with better writing.

Koldman9

They said nah we will make it again but better (i hope) get the big guns(better animation/budget and madhouse)

laervn

lol also both series have openings made by vocaloid producers. Listeners had Jin and this one has (ryo)supercell.

metaaltheanimefan

Hopefully this wont derail like that ( i still dont get the ending of that anime )

CrashDunning

Mappa plagiarizing themselves.

The_Parsee_Man

Boy, season 2 of Your Lie in April is different. I guess we know what Kousei, Nagi, and Tsubaki are up to. I wonder what the other characters are doing.

maliwanag0712

"Will they reach New York? I hope they will."

laervn

oh no if this gets popular, all the classical piano videos on youtube will be filled with weebs again just like when your lie in april was airing.

HeirGaunt

I can't unthink this now.

redggit

Amazing animation but the premise of the story is kinda wacky. Hoping it won't end up like Wonder Egg Priority - good animation but bad story. Also mc looks like Vanitas.

WiqidBritt

WEP took a shot at a story that was bigger than they could handle. It wanted to highlight "Important themes" but ultimately didn't have much to say about them. That certainly doesn't seem to be a problem here so far. It doesn't look like they're being overly ambitious, and that's not a bad thing.

zairaner

I'm pretty sure that all of the fighting animation from the trailers was in this one episode, which is either a good thing or a really really bad thing. Regardless, apart from maybe fumetsu, this is one of the greatest first episdoes i have seen in a long time. Nothing not to like here. You can't have [shots like this](https://imgur.com/a/lxWCj1D) in your first episode and not expect me to be hyped, especially if the soundtrack slaps like that. I don't yet know what takt does exactly, but he [looks badass](https://imgur.com/a/TisE56p) [doing it](https://imgur.com/a/tyD9GWr).

MAPPA and Madhouse's baby looks amazing! I haven't seen so much red in ages and it's beautiful! Plot seems rather basic, but it feels like Symphogear on steroids. Awesome to hear Hondo Kaede again, her second role this season and she's supporting the main cast here as well. What's the second song's name? I've heard it a hundred times but I still forgot... EDIT: Found it, it's Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, 1st movement

Mechabeastchild

Man, the OP is so good. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the animation quality is crisp and clean. Mappa and Madhouse really be flexing hard with this show

uxragnarok

First this year we got Vivy, now we get this? What a time to be alive for music and fight scene lovers. Beginning of fall starting off pretty strong. I want to see this hype continue it's *crescendo*.

Takana_no_Hana

> Animation Producer > Yuichiro Fukushi > Wataru Kawagoe Bois we're in for a great ride. The first episode was fantastic, basically just Madhouse and MAPPA flexing their animations, you can see how much caring they put into the show. I also really like the couple's interaction, definitely looks more natural than what we had in Dead Detective. Overall a really solid start.

ValhallaKombi

As someone who has just returned to watching seasonal stuff and Takt opus destiny being the first original anime I'll watch this year (yeah didn't watch wonder egg or Odd Taxi), I must say I quite liked it. I love when they mix things up, like Shoukugeki did with Battle shonen/cooking/ecchi, this mix of battle and music as an excuse to show both the animation prowess and add in a music enthusiast into one setting. I like that there isn't any overexplanation. Pacing conveyed so much about the world and it was a great move to let natural conversation give us tidbits about the world, enemies etc. I have seen worries about this becoming like Tanmoshi, but eh, redundancy in anime has always been a problem so to someone like me who has just come back to anime, Takt opus destiny is looking to get a solid show to watch every Tuesday.

AmethystItalian

Wow that was a **gorgeous** pilot episode. Let's hope this quality can continue! Not sure I really like the MC but seems like he's competent enough. Really looking forward to seeing more Musicarts.

Lemurians

> Not sure I really like the MC Same, but given it's only been 20 minutes I'll give him room to grow on me. It's not like gacha game protagonists are known for their personality, so let's see how it goes. Setting aside the obvious quality of the music and animation, Anna hard carried this episode for me.

MrSeaSalt

Super impressed by this pilot episode. Animation is gorgeous throughout and the characters have some nice chemistry. It's surprisingly funny too. Don't know much about the plot yet but I'm hoping it delivers.

Koyomi_Siffredi

the music does not feel integrated at all. You would think that the playing of music would somehow tie into the attack motions of the girl. But during the actual battles there is no one playing music...just the guy waving his wand around not really in any meaningful way. While the animation is good....the fights don't actually seem to flow...or maybe the action does not match the music and that is what it is.

PirosJet

It goes without saying that the show looks gorgeous and the fight scenes are engaging but was I the only one that felt the "in-between" felt kind of lackluster? There was some exposition here and there but nothing really attention grabbing. I'm immediately not that interested in Destiny with her monotone and expressionless delivery. Takt I did find engaging and i'm curious to learn how his dynamic as a composer fully works. Anna was fine but mostly just a tool to deliver said exposition mentioned before.

icecubes99

The first piano scene alone sold me

Aerodynamic41

Hmm, I'm not completely sold on the story yet. I know it's basically about fighting monsters with the power of music along with a road trip to New York but they really need to explain how these Musicarts and Conductors actually work. But the action scenes and animation are awesome, and given that this is a music-themed show, of course the music is great too. I'll keep watching. Also, Cosette/Destiny is so adorable!

Happyhotel

Do we really need a guy reading off a Wikipedia article like “and then the arm transforms into music particles and…” For me at least that always takes me out of it, these people live in this world so they probably wouldn’t bother talking through that stuff. Personally I don’t mind a bit of mystery/left up to interpretation. EDIT: After thinking a bit more, I really loved the way exposition was done here. We know that she draws energy from him, and that process is getting screwed up by her inefficiency. This may be due to her being broken in some way, which they are on the way to fix. They appear to share senses, and that enemies can be detected/gauged by the amount of static. There are these stones which the enemy can draw power from. It seems like having the conductor directly involved in the fight lends direction and strategy to her, as shown by her goofy approach when he was absent. When she got hit by the big one his skin turned red indicating some amount of damage sharing. There was a ton of info here given to the audience without boring expo dumps, which I think is just about perfect.

Manitary

I'm on the same camp, we don't need a technical explanation of how conductors "fuel"/direct musicarts to fight. Also, maybe we'll get little bits every now and then, maybe when they get Cosette to her "mantainance", today we saw they "lose" a body part, both need a lot of energy, and the damage on the musicart reflects at least partially on the conductor.

Abysswatcherbel

They released a lot of details about the world and how everything works, [in the official site(SPOILERS)](https://anime.takt-op.jp/introduction/world/), all in Japanese, you can translate with chrome, they are probably explaining this on the anime later though This feels we are getting multiple flashbacks Edit: added a spoiler warning

PREM___

I feel like I am 65% sure that the second episode will start with (possibly a flashback) explanation of the period when the D2 attacked and the conductors/musicarts were formed. Else I don't see how the infodump will happen

Silent_Shadow05

The machine translation has me even more confused. I'll just wait for the anime to explain it.

PREM___

Use deepl.com/translator . It's better than google at the grammar so you can get a basic level of understanding

cppn02

Seconded. DeepL for the win.

27thPresident

>they really need to explain how these Musicarts and Conductors actually work. I don't personally like first episodes that are huge exposition dumps. The story will unfold as it goes along, no need to rush into things. I thought this episode was great

spectre15

They teased more powerful musicarts and a “Grand Conductor” so I hope that gets expanded upon later. Overall there’s a lot of potential for a good story.

Silent_Shadow05

From what we can see, Conductors lose their right arm *(or maybe any body part?)* and Magicarts gain a power boost from it. The stronger the lifeforce of the conductor, the longer the Musicart can fight. They also need to explain the origins of D2 and Conductor/Musicarts. From what I gather D2 and Musicarts both appeared from meteor showers (Black stones and Yellow stones). Is there an intergalactic warfare happening between these two? The story has potential so let's see where it goes.

PREM___

Reminds me of some shows where the first episode is just to show us the base of the world and characters and second episode is where all information and origins/explanations are done

DonThousand77

It makes sense. You need to hook your viewer before making huge infodumps.

kawaii_sugiru

>Musicarts and Conductors actually work That's something pretty obvious going on here. They LINK power to make things run. Conductor agree and transform the girl into musicart . The longer/ power consuming the link, the more conductor has to suffer. Musicart is probably a wordplay on music and mozart, so someone how plays music with mozart's grace.

Spartitan

My question would still be what to they do in actual combat aside from being a battery supply. The first fight showed something like it may highlight weak points but other than him visually adding to the scene I don't quite get how it contributes physically yet.

kawaii_sugiru

>The first fight showed something like it may highlight weak points but other than him visually adding to the scene I don't quite get how it contributes physically yet. In the lost fight, she clearly told how conductor's absence was once of the reason they lost. Conductor controls the fight flow, Most proabably, but the execution part is up to musicart.

Game2015

Are people seriously letting Listeners scare away from this show? Same studio does not mean exact same people developing this, so stop jumping to conclusions!

mike9184

Oh boy, reading the comments it's gonna be another anime where people write 5-page reviews about it with only one episode out right now.

MyLittleRocketShip

the silliness of the show kinda bothers me. lemme destroy the whole marketplace and carelessly blow up half your shop, and youre not even mad. lets go. but im not gonna deny the obvious truth that this show LOOKS FUN AS FUCK. the characters boucing off each other with playful hatred. sakuga that makes YOU NUT HARDER THAN HENTAI. and the waifus, im now sexually attracted to music lolis. **TO NEW YORK!!**

tlst9999

They live in a universe where music attracts monsters, and a crowd still shows up to gawk at a guy playing a piano.

Amauri14

Based on that weird name, I really did not know what to expect from this, but t[hat initial scene](https://i.imgur.com/Qt6FDuW.png) and how [Cossette and Takt](https://i.imgur.com/wqXRNn8.png) [behave](https://i.imgur.com/OCCBBxQ.png) sold on this show. But [poor Anna](https://imgur.com/a/js6IM8H) is going to end up going crazy [babysitting these two](https://imgur.com/a/7WlhBIL) all the way to New York.

DestinyUniverse1

Extremely disappointed. First off this is my first “music” anime but when I always thought of music anime I basically thought it would just have a shit ton of music in it combined with the animation and action. But this show does the opposite with having very little music and instead just having a music THEME or genre selected because the story is literally about “music”. I have to say I think anime original stories are getting more and more disappointing. Idk what there is about them but you can ALWAYS spot out a anime only. Personally I’d prefer anime stories to be created from scratch but generally they end up bad. Sonny boy was good but it still had that I’ll inspired nature to it compared to manga created anime. However I’m extra disappointed because of it being mappa AND madhouse. I expected god tier animation and while we got that I couldn’t help be feel 90% of the scenes were choreographed so poorly that the animation couldn’t shine. Or it was like the shitty animation that video games do for specific animated scenes like in tales of arise. It just looks off. A few clips shine for me like when she tosses him in the car that was sick. Or the ending scene where she transforms again into her music form and it’s this cool animation scene along with the scene where she takes her sword and jams it in the thick boii. But besides that it was just not good. I really want anime onlies to be successful but these animators just don’t come up with as good of stories as light novel and manga authors. Maybe it will get better like vanitas did after it’s super generic vampire first episode but I’m hoping this goes somewhere. The characters also seem super I’ll inspired and basic. I already know like 5 different characters that are the exact same as each of the 3 MCs. Hopefully they get more character and stuff because the red hair girl just seems like a poor persons misato, white hair girl is rei. And the mysterious blue hair guy is once again the same as any other anime. But I’ll give the main MC a pass purely because every MCs character is generally the same across all anime. It’s mainly about how the story and side characters effect him though that drives the story forward.

AlexDDragame

Anime original collab project by Mappa and Madhouse, that promised to be at least interesting. And first episode was...pretty damn solid! Yeah I wouldn't say that plot so far looks like something too unique, stories about humanity being under siege of monsters where only specific group of people can stop them aren't anything new, but execution matter more than "is it unique or not" and imo, execution is pretty good so far. Obvious out of the way- it looks amazing! Visuals are great, I like designs, action from what we saw looks neat, on that aspect- can't complain at all. As far as plot and characters go, well, at least so far it seems like we have a "road movie" about team of 3 characters who are trying to get to New York so they can tune Cozetta- musicart that can fight D2 (monsters that appeared from outer space comets). She is adorable, fun, eats a lot, kicks monsters asses and deadpan as hell. In other words- waifu. Along with her travels Takt (who is a conductor- human that can make Cozetta more powerful) who is often just as deadpan as Cozetta and likes music a lot (like, a lot a lot) and Anna, Cozetta's older sister who plays "straight man" in interactions with this couple of likable weirdos, and she's likable too. So we have nice visuals, good soundtrack, nice cast of characters, wonder if plot develops in something more interesting down the line, but so far I don't have that much to complain about. Good start. Actually after seeing "music" and "Mappa" together I got flashback to Listeners and well, I can say that at least so far it's definitely better than Listeners.

mr_baseballguy

guys this was soooooooo soooo epic !!!!!!!!

ThoricMeerkat

Gonna need to get some toast ready for episode 2, 'cause *this is my jam.* Kaede Hondo yelling for half an episode? Yes please! Classical composition shifting from diegetic to non-diegetic *and* changing genres when the fight starts? Fuck yeah! Sick storyboarding, great choreography and smashing effects? Hnnnnng- The first D2 and Cosette smashed through the roof and it looked like a piano! I'm in love. I almost feel bad for Heike, because I just found my favourite anime original of the season and we're just an episode in. "**SHADAPPU**" -Anna

dagreenman18

I shouldn’t be surprised that the Madhouse x MAPPA anime has great production value, but goddamn this looks so good. Not just the fights, though they’re 2/2 on badass fight scenes in this episode. This thing is dripping with an interesting cross between anime and Americana. On plot the episode is pretty slight. It’s basically pilot character set up. Takt is driven entirely by his desire to play music again. Kind of selfish and dismissive, but comes around from time to time. Cosette (or Destiny) seems to be a robot, though I think there’s more to that. The quick flashback near the end to someone who looks like her and this whole quest to fix her makes me think something happened to her. And there’s poor, cute Anna who has to get these dummies to New York. She’s my favorite. Other than the typical “random town that lets just get the plot set up and the rules of this world across”, it was just banger fight scenes and great animation. The creature designs are pretty interesting too. The first one had a bit of Eva Angel mixed in with hyper color neon. Second one was a weird bug thing but same overall theme. I imagine they will get really out there with the monster designs as they go, but I like it so far. Overall I’m in on it. It’s a great set up that will hopefully start to get into the meat of the story over the next few episodes. Plus I’m a sucker for a road trip story. This is on the watch list this season. Notes - I don’t know why but there’s also something so endearing to be about a character that eats an insane amount of food. She’s wrong about the donuts though. Donuts with holes means you get donut holes. Two snacks for one! - no surprise the music in this music based show is very good. OP is solid. - Interested to hear the logic behind the conductor losing his arm to power up the musicart. The power sets in this show are visually interesting but confusing. - The options really are “Drive through the monster infested Midwest” or “Deal with the South”. Personally rather go the monster route. - Making my guess here: Takt is resentful to Cosette because of something to do with that flashback. Maybe he loved the original her and something happened to make her a “robot”. Also doubt Anna is actually her sister. - Also, heh, her name is Cosette. Les Mis nerds make your jokes now. - She sucks up too much of his energy, he doesn’t have enough stamina. So let’s just assume them bonding makes them more powerful as they go along. - this is based on a mobile game?!

8andahalfby11

> Les Mis nerds make your jokes now. Food beyond compare. Food beyond belief Mix it in a mincer and pretend it's beef Girl is pulled from Fate, guy's from ZnT Won't you watch this ball of tropes again with me?

ImperialDane

Visually very impressive and the fights were great.. But beneath that i feel like there's a lack of structure and texture to really make this work. The characters themselves were hardly that interesting. Your typical kuudere that is also a glutton who does all the fighting and the absent minded music freak forming an odd-couple on their way to new york with a frazzled handler. Not much in terms of dynamics there really. Similarly the foe was.. not particularly interesting either. So while a solid first episode, with generally solid execution. It didn't have me go "WoW" either or really grab me. That said, just first episode and it's got plenty of room to grow with. Especially if it can keep up the visuals.

rchl99

As a person who rarely watch action anime, this anime does hook me up. The story is quite interesting for what I saw from the first episode, it is so long time since to watch an action anime that excited me, hope it doesn't end up like certain anime that release early this year.

SpamAccountLmaoo

I had no idea what to expect when I first clicked on this show. Needless to say, that soundtrack was amazing 👏
