Someday, when you least expect it, [Shouta's dad](https://imgur.com/PEv6Xye.png) will blink.

Those eyes are staring into my soul and I feel uncomfortable

When demon lords or chaos dragons could easily be antagonists in Dragon Maid, but it’s actually corporate bureaucracy

The eternal enemy of all mankind....

You awake, heart pounding. As your gaze shifts from the ceiling to the foot of your bed, standing there in the gloaming is Shouta's dad. His face slowly turns and asks, H̷̪͔̍ä̴̱̭̳̑v̸̺̞̍̎̈́͜ę̵̹̅̄ͅ ̸̭̿y̴̢̛̻̎͆ȯ̴̩͎̈́͠ȕ̵̹́ ̶̢̼̗͐s̴͍̎͑ë̵͓́̓ê̶͍̅ṉ̸͇͗̈́͠ ̸̤̘͚͘m̷̗̋̃̈́y̴̧̗̓̄̕ ̴̢͎̘͆̃͝e̴̛̖͑͜͝ỷ̵̮̳̺ě̸̗̬͒b̵̳̣̃̽̚r̷̭͖͔̓̋̇o̸͔͝w̷͔̙̚͜s̶̤͈͑̾͂?̷̪͑͆̈

What's worse than a heartless boss is a heartless boss who is also an Master Sorcerer with "magic spells" like logic and fallacies to take you down if you ever think of standing up for your worker rights.

Also, he knows you personally and deeply cares about his son that can just spin Kobayashi and her neighborhood as "the enemy". He's definitely the sort of guy Tohru's dad is warning her about.

Love that the mater Sorcerer is going somewhat along with my idea that what is happening to his son is a good lesson in summoning backlash that he will never forget and in the future he will be sure of what he is summoning and sure to know how to control it. Plus family tradition to care for what they summon.

Maybe he's from the Galar region? He reminded me of the Police Officers from Pokemon Sword/Shield.

Literally expecting him to say "Be not afraid" lol. Dafuq are with those big void-gazing eyes

Had to go get changed into my formal wear for this Elma episode.

This Wednesday calls for my Sunday best

My man!

Elma babysitting the kids was pretty fun to watch lol

Pretty sure Shouta was the babysitter in this episode.

he was just happy Lucoa wasn't there to pester him XD

Honestly Shouta and Lucoa are both very fun and enjoyable characters as long as they're *not* around each other.

Shouta's interactions with Kanna and Saikawa are so adorable, even if they're mostly background stuff. I wish we could get more of that and less of Lucoa sexually abusing him.

This episode was hilarious. I loved it when she was frantically running in the forest and kept hitting progressively bigger branches. The bear scene also killed me - such a pleasure to watch Elma!

And her PTSD: Pre-Tohru stress disorder, already imagining all the possible worst ways in which Tohru would shame her.

The scariest part of this episode was Shota's dad's eyes.

He looks like a Titan

I think its about time Kyoani start making full blown action anime

They already did.

Which one?

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. Arguably Beyond the Boundary as well.

The Second Raid even to this date is considered a magnum opus of mecha. Helped by the fact Arm Slaves are more mobile and fluid than your usual somewhat clunky Mobile Suit or Variable Fighter, the speed, crispness and attention to detail in TSR is rivaled by very few works, doubly so considering it doesn't use CGI in any meaningful capacity - which Gundam Unicorn does to a notable extent and makes work, but not as amazingly as TSR. Also, they did Fumoffu! too, which is debatable as to how much "action" it is. FUMO!

TSR has aged beautifully over the past 16 years. I'm still a bit bummed that Invisible Victory went with CGI mechs, especially since Horiuchi was the Chief Animation Director like on all previous seasons, but I can see why since the landscape for mecha animators is so different now compared to even the mid-00s

Invisible Victory made the CGI ASs work (if anything, they look like actual machines when compared to humans, with the CGI giving off that metallic synthetic vibe next to the drawn people), but yeah, TSR is definitely on its own level.

Yeah the IV mechs looked really good, Xebec's dept did good work

Fullmetal Panic

Also, in addition to Full Metal Panic (TSR and Fumoffu) which I promote every chance, Chuunibyou is also actually really action heavy, even though it's in the imaginary world.

Chuunibyou is great and I found it hilarious when they switched between the imaginations and the real world.

Do it again!

With how much they've flexed doing dance animations before I'm surprised they haven't done something like an idol anime either. PS, Lantis put up [the preview for the *L・O・V・E* character song album earlier today](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRTj4YP3M5s). It's got a Fafnir & Takiya character song called *Cursed Treasure*, haha.

Gimme that kyoani berserk adaptation

From futilely forming a worker's union for sweets to traumatizing a bear then fighting one crazy gorgeous battle with Tohru just to reconcile with her. Should've just called this episode Elma's Wholesome Adventure

Elma is quickly becoming my favorite character of the entire show. She was introduced late in the first season so I never really got a chance to get attached to her. Season two has done a really good job of developing her character as well as Shouta's. In the first season, I saw him as nothing more than a victim of Lucoa's sexual harassment. But now he actually seems like a very capable and competent mage.

If you're an Elma fan, I recommend the manga

honestly a super fun read but terrible to read at night since you'll be starving like crazy before sleeping XD

Especially Elma's Office Lady Diary spinoff.

Bro Elma’s been my fav since the S1 OP.

Damn, Shouta was a bit of a badass today. Super slick how he just put Saikawa to sleep like that, on top of blocking Elma's clairvoyance and knowing his way through the forest.

His mage skills really impressed me as well. It's often downplayed as a joke how he wants to become a competent mage, but he definitely pulls his weight today!

I'm starting to fear what his father is capable of, if Shouta is this competent already . . hidden secret boss anyone?

In Season 1 Torhu mentions that it's not uncommon for humans to fight on her level. We also know that even some dragons aren't powerful enough to cross worlds by themselves, but evidently papa shouta is capable of that since he knows who Elma is and what Lucoa is and doesn't even bat an eye.

>In Season 1 Torhu mentions that it's not uncommon for humans to fight on her level. She said that many humans are capable of feats like that when she was playing with Kanna, who's a child dragon and the weakest of them. Tohru also said this was on the level of harmless playing around when Kobayashi freaked out. Elma-Tohru were fighting on another level and both certainly pulled their punches.

But they are old dragons and their family has tried for generations to return I think he knows them either from old books or Lucoa told him about them

Yea I also assumed it was more of a knowledge is power thing for him. Also love that his response to Lucoa is "Shouta summoned her, it is his problem."

He has gotten so much better back from when he almost summoned an actual demon by accident (thankfully Lucoa answered instead).

She is not a demon she is just a former god that fell from heaven due to her wicked de-- oh...

That Saikawa save is smooth af

Poor girl. Shota was talking about ley lines here, magic there and she thought the whole time, he was making things up.

I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that this whole time Saikawa thought Shouta was a chuunibyou.

She's a 3rd grader. I don't know, if japanese kids that age would classify each other like that, I assume she thought he was pretend playing as a wizard.

Both Kanna and the second flower and Shouta with the sleep spell. I especially loved that he immediately caught her falling body (and struggled with the dead weight), reminds me of Reigan in S2 of Mob when he protects the back of his head after getting punted by a psychic blast.

He's so smooth today. It looks like Shouta's dad wasn't lying when he said having Lucoa around would help him in his education consideirng she's the reason why he learned how to block Clairvoyance spells xD

He probably learned how do to that in a pretty short period of time too, considering it was just a few episodes that he was still surprised she knew what he was doing all the time.

Yep teach in a way the boy will never forget never summon until your sure you sure you know what you are actually going to summon and your sure you can control it. And shouta mainly embarrassed in no way traumatized. Plus family tradition to take care of summons might actually be true.

Looks like he could use an arm workout though. Either that or Saikawa is kinda heavy. https://imgur.com/RfzmzCc.png

Hes still like ten years old. He hasn't had time to get swole yet.

Yeah, one of the best parts of series getting second seasons is that they can expand on the side characters a bit more. It's nice to see that he's more than just "kid who gets assaulted by ex-goddess on the reg".

Right? Now I kinda understand Lucoa.....

Dude, I expected him to be a chuunibyou and that his mage skills were nothing like this. I was wrong.

He on top of his game

[Are we just gonna ignore this scene?](https://imgur.com/R6nwLFF) Tohru gonna start a cult lmao

It's hilarious to see her just casually teaching the staff dark magic all for the sake of making the food taste better.

The horrified looks on their faces when casting the spell is what sold it for me

With the other maids in the background taking notes.

That scene was hilarious

[Elmaposting. Plenty of apples today 💙](https://imgur.com/a/h3u0MeF) Elma do be saying worker's rights and unionize doe It's an Elma episode of course it'll be excellent. Kyoani again flexes their animation by yet another fighting scene which has no right to be as good as it is Someone also pls make a gif of Elma bopping her head on the cake shop

Hello fellow man of culture, I see you have good taste. It pains me that a lot people slept on Elma until these episodes. But at least shes getting the attention she deserves. Also, [i did my best](https://imgur.com/8OAkreD)

And showing without making us totally depressed why unionization has a hard time catching on in Japan even though it should after all with their labor shortages labor has the advantage and Japan does have some unions like the automobile industry. At a minimum they should force the company to open it's books and procedures fully to union experts and if it really needs that much effort for the business to be successful Union wants owner ship stakes and seats on the board.

You are doing the lord's work

One day I'll be able to make it through an episode without crying. Today wasn't that day. That moment that Elma told Tohru she just wants to be friends like they used to be got me all choked up.

That fight scene was so unreasonably extra. I love it!

What I love about this anime, it can go from Yuru Yuri to DBZ in a second.

With a dash of Yuru Camp today

The camping bit also felt a bit like the one in Nichijou (similar area,…).

Considering who's directing it I wouldn't be surprised if it's the exact same location.

When they first showed the area, I instantly thought "oh, it's the Nichijou rocks". Then the curry and rice stuff was the same too, though I expect that's somewhat standardized culturally.

> unreasonably extra No such thing for KyoAni, going the extra mile for quality is what they do.

They dont need to went that hard with the fight scene, but they did, respect+

[We don't deserve KyoAni](https://i.imgur.com/Fy29JJF.jpg)

For a second I thought I was watching a battle shounen anime. The animation was smooth af

You thought this was a slice of life anime... but it was me battle shounen.

Not even battle shounen looks this good

You know shit's serious because Elma didn't even touch her parfait during her meeting with Fafnir.

And the fact that Fafnir decided to hear Elma out in the first place.

It was hilarious how he immediately peaced out once he realized that the conflict b/w the two had been resolved and this wasn't going to be some bitter showdown.

[**Fafnir:** *Yare yare daze.* ](https://i.imgur.com/HVQD1n5.jpg) [](#laststraw)

Fafnir: so it's the same kind of stand as Star Platinum.

Same for the picnic episode. She was so worried that the bear got away.

"You, challenge me? Well, fine. I **am** hungry." NOPE NOPE NOPE

Absolute knockout of an episode. [Really appreciate the extra mile KyoAni went into animating Shouta's face when he catches Saikawa.](https://imgur.com/a/fuc1gXj) It's maybe on screen for a quarter of a second but it really makes that cut expressive and detailed. One of the neatest details I picked up after rewatching was [during Elma and Tohru's fight at the end.](https://imgur.com/a/9bKYI2A) Elma launches Tohru into the sky with the explosion of her spear and they spar for a bit. The scene is dynamic with the momentum of the explosion propelling pieces of the land into the background. Then everything and everyone is kept frozen in inertia when Elma begins her confession. Once Elma finally confesses her true feelings to Tohru the gravity of the situation and Earth finally return to snap them back in and begins to freefall everything back down to the ground.

The direction on that scene was ducking nuts

Similar to Elma's face when being blow away by the CEO, and some really detailed individual frames when Elma is running through the woods hitting every branch. They drew in a beetle on one of the tree trunks that probably no one will notice.

That poor bear.

it's honestly the bear's fault for still trying to kill Elma even after the warning

I feel pity for him even if he's to blame.

Kana might have just ate the bear just like she has ate everything else so lucky bear to run into Elma.

all three parts of this episode were great in their own way, but god damn last one was just spectacular. and lol at Kanna fishing for Anaconda's

STAFF: **Storyboard/Director:** Minoru Ota **Animation Director:** Kohei Okamura **Key Animation:** Tatsuya Satou, Ryo Miyagi, Yuriko Ono, Tamami Tokuyama, Aya Hikita

Elma Rights Matter! Almost as if it's reflective of irl working conditions... Anyways, Elma is based. Holy shit Kanna's little peace crab signs were so damn cute. The kiddo trio were awesome this episode, especially Shouta with his mage skills. Really impressed me as usually his skills are downplayed as a joke. We saw him previously make a gift in previous episodes, and now casually blocking clairvoyance and putting Saikawa to sleep?! Very proud. We've been seeing tons of Elma this season, and I'm all for it. And huh hello! The water animation was honestly really gorgeous. The fight scene had crazy sakuga as well!! > this battle is reassuring to watch Just another day for Kobayashi. Just another excellent episode for all of us. Blessup. And only 3 episodes left!? Gonna miss this show, definitely one of the high points this year.

> Holy shit Kanna's little peace crab signs were so damn cute. Yeah, I thought that was such a cute little flair of animation. There's lots of grand scenes with stellar animation as usual for KyoAni, but I really appreciate them putting the effort in for tiny things like that.

I like KyoAni for keeping animation really fluid. Even small moments like hair fluttering in the wind, or moving backgrounds, little bubbles in water - it all adds to the atmosphere of the shows that their building.

[Don't forget Elma vibing](https://i.imgur.com/TLdVbUL.mp4) [](#uwaa)

> I really appreciate them putting the effort in for tiny things like that It's especially that stuff that makes their work shine for me. You can always crowbar some some big flashy scene into a series but being consistently so good about all the tiny stuff that *could* be ignored is special in its own way.

> The water animation was honestly really gorgeous. [We Aquatope now.](https://i.imgur.com/TB1B2F2.png)

Where my mind went to, always liked seeing water nicely animated so having this and Aquatope is a nice treat.

If you want to see beautiful water animation, i recommend Children of The Sea. It has the most beautiful animation (not just water) from last few years and maybe more.

Artwork in aquatope is fantastic. Can’t get enough of that

This was honestly the best episode so far. Incredibly sweet how Elma professed how she loves Tohru and wants to be friends like before. Kobayashi saw this coming from far away, hence she did not stop the fight.

She knew they needed to fight it out to get past that

Sometimes homies have to [duke it out](https://i.imgur.com/FrBAaqv.jpg) to let the [repressed feelings out.](https://i.imgur.com/CjOkBzF.jpg) [](#TOMODA)

Agreed - I teared up a bit during that scene. The fight was incredibly done. Oh how I've missed KyoAni!

I was seriously not expecting the feels from that fight scene. It kinda makes all the information you've learned about their relationship click.

[The effects](https://i.imgur.com/w4JmmFm.jpg) for the [attacks](https://i.imgur.com/Pxe7n6D.jpg) and the [still shots](https://i.imgur.com/4E7BNH2.jpg) between the action frames were just [gorgeous.](https://i.imgur.com/I7p0fAc.jpg) [](#wow)

I wasn't a fan of their bickering, so seeing their relationship taking a wholesome turn was the best thing in this season for me. [](#feelingloved)

Can't go wrong with Elma episode, she's masterwork

I hadn't noticed until episode 5 how much better episodes with Elma in them tend to be. I agree!

It's either this one or Episode 5. Both absolutely amazing episodes.

I forgot for a second that I was watching a SOL show during that fight scene. Kyoani is going all out with the animation. Elma truly is best dragon.

Why yes indeed, Dragon Maid is my favorite action anime, how'd you know?

Watching that moment when Elma just puts her feet in the water I thought "That's an animation flex..." And then they go and do that fight later that just leaves in the dust all the animation in this whole season of anime... Kyoani do be like that.

If there is an easy way to determine the animation quality of an anime, the water animation test would be a decent standard of measurement.

Also [cabbages](https://imgur.com/a/2Bt2C).

Reading that is so funny, it's all these high quality drawn cabbages and then of course shaft just put in a photo of an actual cabbage

they want photorealistic cabbages, we'll give em photorealistic cabbages

I first learned about this a little over a decade ago and have been giggling at every cabbage I see in anime ever since.

I never knew this existed. Thank you for sharing this wise information. I've become enlightened at this very moment.

Based Elma trying to improve japan work condition

Tohru seeing her fail miserably: [pathetic](https://i.imgur.com/tgIQBtD.png)

A formidable opponent for [Principal's Skinner meme](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/022/017/thumb.png) has appeared.

It is a good meme in it's own right, but it is hard to compete with Skinner.

So tasks are too hard even for a powerful dragon

Boy do I have a book recommendation for Elma.

Is it red and written by some beardy guy ?

Another delightful episode from start to finish. All Elma -- in 3 totally different situations: at work, at play (ostensibly babysitting) and fence-mending with Tohru. Each segment was wonderful. For feels, the best moment was the reconciliation -- but overall my favorite moment was Elma sitting on the bank, totally zoning out while splashing her feet. Lots of *Non non biyori* vibes again at various spots in this episode.

aww Fafnir

Yay, Faf-kun!

JUSTICE FOR FAFNIR Also missed the last couple, and really liked Kanna and the fairy and LOVED Illulu and the table. I wonder how much furniture Kobayashi had to rebuy?

Kyoto Animation... that fight scene was so cool to watch

Can any shounen fight even compare this season? I ask because I'm not watching any this season.

This season? Hell no. Bones isn't letting My hero be good anymore so they can make movies so the only contender would be a break out fight in one piece.

Some of the fights in Magia Gaiden S2 have come very close to the level of flashiness in this fight but aren't quite as technically impressive or fluid. KyoAni was really flexing here.

Smug Illulu is frickin great, but the friendship between Tohru and Elma is even better. Tohru says she wouldn't make fun of Elma.....yeah I'm calling doubt on that I could see her easily bringing that up randomly in future arguments. It was real nice of the guy in front of Elma for only getting one snack because I don't think Elma could have handled that. Though I like to think anyone seeing a person wanting one that badly would let them have the last one. Also once again this slice of life show has better fights than some action anime. Time to search for fighting compilations hopefully someone has made one.

###Stitches! * [Serious Elma](https://i.imgur.com/yyTWLmE.jpg) * [Fishing Kanna](https://i.imgur.com/ilAX3at.jpg) * [Smug Ilulu](https://i.imgur.com/DeBNwaE.jpg) I already knew from the preview last week that this is going to be an Elma-centric episode but I didn't expect that [we'd start off with Elma trying to improve work conditions!](https://i.imgur.com/avaVwLz.jpg) Watching Kobayashi [laugh at Elma's proposal](https://i.imgur.com/7BTcU8J.jpg) just hits too close to home especially since that part of Elma's proposal [is about expanding personnel.](https://i.imgur.com/AbmRh4W.jpg) And it just keeps on hitting too close since [they either use obscure or obsolete programming language](https://i.imgur.com/NClM3aw.jpg) at their company. I didn't feel like being personally attacked today but here we are. It looks like Elma's proposal [have gotten so bad](https://i.imgur.com/DESY9M2.jpg) that they've finally attracted the attention of the executive director of the company, [aka Shouta's dad.](https://i.imgur.com/vxPIpAo.jpg) I love that he's not even mincing words and [straight up calls Elma by her title in the other world.](https://i.imgur.com/7VN9MII.jpg). It's also interesting how he thinks that [Lucoa is good for Shouta's education.](https://i.imgur.com/87ulE9L.jpg) I wonder what kind of education would that be... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Seriously though! [Shouta's dad is fucking terrifying!](https://i.imgur.com/TruMy4F.jpg) It looks like even after that meeting and after making new proposals, [Shouta's dad would just masterfully find flaws in them](https://i.imgur.com/vMB31DW.jpg). What's hilarious is all of this effort is apparently just so [Elma can go home and but some limited time sweets!](https://i.imgur.com/wcrCRvL.jpg) xD [Elma going picnic with the kids!](https://i.imgur.com/sI1PyJc.jpg) Looks like Kobayashi can't go since she's working and [Tohru is helping out in the maid cafe.](https://i.imgur.com/INx5gXf.jpg) Good to know that she hasn't completely left the place and helps out every now and then. I really love how [the girls are the ones fishing](https://i.imgur.com/nZWfA92.jpg) while Shouta is just being reliable and setting up everything for them in the background. [So that's why Shouta joined them!](https://i.imgur.com/4VJXbwL.jpg) It looks like he wanted to research some ley lines in the mountains. [Elma's just having so much fun](https://i.imgur.com/Cacw5qg.jpg) playing in the water that she doesn't even realize the kids she should be watching over is gone. xD Apparently, [Shouta is now at the level where he can block clairvoyance.](https://i.imgur.com/KJL0r5n.jpg) That's some powerful magic if he can block Elma's clairvoyance but apparently he's been learning a lot since Lucoa does this a lot to him. Turns out Shouta's dad was right about Lucoa being good for his educaction! Watching Elma [running around in panic](https://i.imgur.com/iwmEOC3.jpg) while looking for the kids is hilarious! [That poor bear](https://i.imgur.com/5GBvLCK.jpg) and [poor snail](https://i.imgur.com/kyn3opE.jpg) must've been scared to death after what they encountered. I absolutely love how badass Shouta is this episode, first he blocks Elma's clairvoyance and then he [quickly puts Saikawa to sleep](https://i.imgur.com/ezQUJzm.jpg) when Elma transformed. He's surprisingly amazingly competent today and I love it! [Giving Elma a flower as an apology was sweet.](https://i.imgur.com/jNiyopu.jpg) And I love that Kanna is already expecting Saikawa to make a big deal out of it [that she already have one ready for her](https://i.imgur.com/XmY9p6F.jpg) just in case. xD [Taketo trying to sneak a peek](https://i.imgur.com/mIXoN6N.jpg) on Ilulu's cleavage and [Ilulu being smug](https://i.imgur.com/g815NaP.jpg) when she caught him was so good! Looks like Ilulu is becoming a bit more aware now of what boys his age are like. [That final part though...](https://i.imgur.com/RAV0gOb.jpg) I'm sure everyone was already expecting a fight between Tohru and Elma when we were brought to that empty field but holy fuck! I think this is the one of their more intense fights [considering they've reached underground lava](https://i.imgur.com/ALkDyEZ.jpg). Also that [top-down perspective of their fight](https://i.imgur.com/FQ4wvQW.jpg) was so slick! Feels like something out of a kung-fu movie! Turns out Elma is just being lonely and [misses being friends with Tohru](https://i.imgur.com/B8CRhZ8.jpg) like back when they were travelling together. Seeing her cry out like that definitely made me tear up a bit. [Look at the two of them finally make up.](https://i.imgur.com/xbhP3Y1.jpg) Although I doubt this will stop any of their bickering in the future, it's just nice that we know that they're really friends <3

Thought I'd let you know I always look for your comments in all discussion threads I check out. Thanks for the stitches!

For some reason I love that one sequence of her running through the forest and hitting her head on everything.

Yea I was pretty amazed by shouta as well. Wasn’t he also the one that cooked the curry?

Man Shouta dad big ass eye looks unsettling af lol

Not even dragon can fight the Japanese horrible work culture huh?

Just work in general and that's why I'm 4 years out of work due to mental issues

Elma just wanted to stay friends with tohru like back in the day. I’m happy that that was finally brought up and their beef squashed. This was a great Elma packed episode.I’m hoping for another in the future.

So, when I need to refer anyone to a nuanced, multi-sided procedural and psychological discussion of workers rights and business realities, I point them to Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S episode 9. With bonus apocalyptic dragon battles. Got it.

Especially worker reactions in Japan where with the worker shortages they should have management over a barrel but culturally don't. There are Unions in Japan like auto industry but most countries white collar not unionized. But also good to show things are not cut and dry that management might have points in their favor.

Kyogre vs Groudon looks different than I remember

Elma is too damn pure for this world >.<

Captain here .for anyone curious about the last phrase of the episode .it meant magma=μάγμα (as the hot liquid resting at the bottom of the earth) and its Greek. Flies away

Man, that fight scene was gorgeous! More dragon fights please!

Sasuga, comrade Elma, you were a victim of corporate anti-union culture. Seeing her get worried about losing Kanna was hilarious, like I can assure you they were all fine.

Yep its confirmed, TohruxElma is the true otp all along

I like how Shouta can actually use magic spells now.

Yeah that was really cool! He's getting so good at them too!

It is out of necessity as he explained

That Tohru vs Elma animation.. Bruh

I loved that one part where Elma stopped that bear chomp dead in its tracks with just two fingers. I think one of the interesting parts of this setting is that any of these dragons (even Kanna, adorable as she is) could completely devastate the countryside if they really wanted to let loose, but they choose to live peaceful lives co-existing with all these regular humans. It's especially interesting with Elma because in her past she used to leverage her power to live with the humans, but that power worked against her because the power difference separated her from the humans; they only wanted to placate Elma or seek favors from her rather than be friends, and in the end, Elma was only able to make a friend in Tohru who matched her raw strength.

It was at this moment that the bear realised ... [it fucked up](https://i.imgur.com/5GBvLCK.jpeg)!

Damn, that kind of put into perspective how that fight between Kanna and Tohru in season 1 really was just “rough housing.” Tohru fighting her equal was much more destructive.

Am i dreaming? Another dedicated Elma episode? Hell yeah!

An Elma focused episode. Sweet. Just another day in the life of Elma the Office Lady. She does it for the sweets. All for the sweets. And seeing that one guy in front of her at the sweets chop cave in at seeing her panicked face made for a good laugh. And just like that they just answered some of my concerning questions in passing about how Shouta's parents feel about Lucoa. I see the maid cafe is still at it with their unique style of moe moe kyun. Well, I'm sure that uniqueness is doing wonders for their business model. Elma got fished once huh? So, wonder what kind of bait they used. Worms? Blood Dough Balls? A Manwich? Crack? Interesting background detail after they ate. Kanna showed Saikawa a strange bug and Kanna said "Spicy", meaning that Kanna had eaten that kind of bug before. In a grizzly situation, Bewear of Elma. Woah, Elma didn't touch her parfait when she was with Fafnir. That's a sign of something. And we end this Elma focused episode on a Mak'gora. A very good one at that.

Elma: Pathetic meme tohru isnt real, she cant hurt you. [Pathetic meme Tohru](https://i.imgur.com/CTSCWmV.png)

This kind of episodes are the reason to watch anime. What a fucking masterpiece in all aspects, such elevated attention to every single detail. What a rollercoaster of feelings. Elma just did a ride through the fantastic topics that this anime delivers and all of them culminated in the fight of the season

once again, elma is peak moe

More please

That tickling scene at the end - that felt like the pure *Peak Happiness* of anime.

I quite liked how Shouta's dad defended Lucoa and at first we are led to believe it's a joke about her "leading him to manhood" or something of the sort, but then the very next skit shows off just how dependable and strong Shouta has become since Lucoa came around. When he's not getting teased by her he's quite the mage, he'll be a total badass in the future. But holy shit this episode was the best, Elma has been my favorite since her introduction and even though she still doesn't have a person, and likely never will since Tohru is basically her person, her getting all this focus was amazing. To put it simply, Elma continues to climb my all-time best girl rankings, and I want every episode to just be like this.

Great episode, Elma is adorable!

Elma is so unbelievably cute, even tied with Kobayashi for me this episode

No wonder Elma got 2nd spot behind Kanna in character popularity, goddamn she adorable af

With next week demonstrating why Kanna is in first place.

Ever since season 1 I've been playing a little game of trying to figure out the last icon in the list of icons during the transition. I think I only got 4 out of all them so far.

Ngl, I want to read more of Elma's detailed report on her coworkers. I would be terrified if she had done that to me though.

I don't know man... this Jujutsu Kaisen OVA was a bit confusing.

Man, Elma fighting for labor conditions is one of the best Elma's out there. Good to see it animated. "Kanna-san, what are you fishing for?" "Anacondas." LMAO Smuglulu is best Ilulu. Deep down, all Elma needs is her best friend back.

Visually stunning

Wholesome Elma Episode! As well as Kyo-Ani really flexing their animation prowess to show that they're still one of the top anime studios out there despite all the stuff that's happened to them. Fun fact: Elma's VA Takada Yuuki plays another OL, Aoba in New Game, which also has atrocious working conditions sugar-coated in SoL comedy. Maybe Takada is channeling Aoba's suppressed frustrations as well when voicing Elma's grievances with the company's working conditions? XD Didn't realize Kobayashi's boss is actually Shouta's dad, and even more amazingly, looks like he's also a mage (humans from the other world?), no wonder he didn't mind all the explosions in the house caused by Shouta trying to concoct potions last episode, as Shouta was simply following in his dad's footsteps. Still, wonder why he decided to move to this world and start a programming company instead (and one that exploits their worker like any exploitative Japanese "Black Company^TM " would)? Last season, we learned that Kobayashi's company uses Python (fitting because Pythons are reptiles just like Dragons) from some of the code seen in certain scenes, yet this episode Kobayashi is already implying Python is becoming obsolete as a programming language. Just what year is it in this story? I'm still a complete noob when it comes to coding, but AFAIK, Python is still popular as an entry-level language? Was expecting Elma to interact more with Shouta and maybe get Shouta to convince his dad to improve working conditions that way. And finally, what better way to express one's feeling with your ~~yuri crush~~ BFF than through a good ol' epic dragon battle? Some people keep asking why Elma doesn't have a "human sidekick" like the other dragon characters. The answer is simply that Elma also shares her human sidekick with Tohru, even though neither Elma or Tohru will ever admit it. It's a friendly yuri triangle, though Tohru gets most of the spotlight since she's the titular "Maid Dragon" of the show.

The code thing will become important to the story later. Since the first season was in 2017, and the code thing hasn't been reveal yet at that time, they probably just made it a well-known language like Python

Whoa! KyoAni flexing their action scenes yet again! And this time it’s yet another of the “casual” dragon fights for nothing whatsoever, glad to see Tohru and Elma managing to close out their millennium feud like that huh. Nice to see them putting all outs in a situation that doesn’t need them to demonstrate their powers at all, and in the end they both chuckle about how naive both of them were that caused their misunderstandings to stay for so long. In other news what a strong impression Elma has pulled in today, both in how she managed to push company labor policies for *that* much with her being in the lower flanks of the company, with no experience at all in forcing the company to respond. Then on the other hand she managed to get lost in the forest like that…LOL! Heck her begging for the last sweet and her “sparkling hair” act while lost in the forest reminds me of a certain r/anime Best Girl (hint - see A Certain Scientific Railgun S1 EP1) too…that’s adding a lot of personal impression points for me into Elma. Wait Kanna’s school trip is to New York!? Wow…? I wonder what happens next week…

KyoAni did NOT need to go this hard. Legends. Also, one of the best episodes so far, if not the best one. It's either this or Episode 5.

I really liked the visual gag of Kanna having a second flower ready to satisfy Saikawa without even missing a beat. I wonder if they'll decide they can trust her with the secret about the dragons and magic or if the show will keep using the joke of having her write everything off as chunibyo. I'm OK with either.

Poor Elma. She tried to reform her workplace, but it seems she's still as naive as ever. It's a pity she was pitted against such a sophist as Shouta's dad. Well, better luck next time, Elma (if there is a next time...) Also, we finally meet Shouta's dad! We've seen hints of him before, but it's the first time we've met him in person! We can finally see where Shouta got his capitalist Monopoly attitude from... They even have similar auras! More Elma is always nice, and more Kanna is cute as well. Having Shouta away from Lucoa gives him more time to shine as well. Did Elma forget about the river incident when she was seen by Kanna and Saikawa? It's hasn't even been that long! And once again, we've got more of that Kyoani flexing with another Tohru and Elma fight scene, this time in human form. It's easy to forget how much damage the dragons could do if they ever fight each other full out. Kanna did say they wiped out three islands before. Althought I sense some ship tease between Tohru and Elma... :) Maybe the true companion of Elma wasn't food after all. No, wait, never mind.
