NeroHeroBlaster

parasj9

Any music related anime, that's not CGDCT, already watched shigatsu wa Kimi no uso, kono oto tomare and nodame cantabile.

meowy123456

Mashiro no Oto is pretty good.

H-Ryougi

White Album 2

soracte

A few off the top of my head: * On-Gaku (this is outsider animation, but I think it’s pretty good) * Beck * Given * Kids on the Slope * Nana * Princess Tutu * Macross, in general

parasj9

Thanks, will give them a try

soracte

Cool! They vary wildly (except that none are CGDCT), so with luck at least some of them will be to your taste.

Castramia

No but seriously how are we so spoiled this season !! I just discovered High Card another unique and fun anime to add to my already fulfilling watchlist. I'm at 14 now between what's airing and the new stuff on Netflix and I normally only watch 4-5 per season. That's generally what tends to hold my interest. But this time around each anime is so enjoyable in its own way, I keep thinking okay one of these has got to bore me but nope it's just love, and love, and more love all around! I feel like a happy spoiled kid that's stumbled into heaven and the blessings keep falling only for the universe to tell me "more, there's still more for you, your abundance is infinite!" Ha ha I wonder if it's just me who feels this way.

JollRoints

I just realized 2023 is going to be GREAT year for anime.. I'm mainly excited for Attack on Titan (Season 4, Part 3, Part 1), Bleach TYBW (Season 2), Chainsaw Man (season 2), and Arcane (Season 2)...I know Arcane isn't considered anime but it still amazing

AdNecessary7641

>Chainsaw Man (season 2) I highly doubt it will come in 2023.

JollRoints

Who knows, hopefully either late this year or early next year

Cryten0

> Attack on Titan (Season 4, Part 3, Part 1) This is what happens when a show calls its new season Final but it ends up covering more content then all previous season combined.

JollRoints

Hey they're trying their best over at MAPPA🤣

KaleidoArachnid

What's another show like EroManga Sensei? I know people say the show was trashy, but I kinda enjoyed it anyway.

Vindex101

Imouto sae Ireba ii is another one that seems trashy, but is really enjoyable

baquea

Oreimo is by the same author and shares a lot of similarities. Other than that, it would help if you elaborated on what parts in particular you liked.

KaleidoArachnid

Well I liked seeing a bunch of fictional writers come together, e.g. Elf and Masamune seemed to bond with each other due to being light novel writers, and they had good chemistry with each other therefore.

rinmperdinck

How do I get into Bocchi the Rock? I watched the first 3 episodes and it's kinda so-so right now. Not trying to hate, the last time I asked a question about this was about Lycoris Recoil, someone said to "watch it like a buddy cop movie" and all of a sudden it clicked with me.

entelechtual

Just watch it for the story and comedy. I don’t think I really appreciated it until Episode 8, and even then I’m not raving about it like many people. But I enjoyed it enough to watch week to week.

cyberscythe

Have you watched other slice-of-life or "cute girls doing cute things" series? It's a different experience from something like a battle shounen or a plot-driven series; personally, I find it's more about finding a group of characters that you can vibe and hang out with. That's going to be a bit tough in the beginning because they're still introducing the characters, but I find that a series really hits it stride once it has fully introduced its cast of characters. Another thing that could change your perspective if you're not already aware: this is a seinen 4koma series. It's targeted towards adult men who are nostalgic for that period in their youth, high school often being thought of as some of the best years of their lives. I think the main thing that separates this series from others in the same subgenre is how much effort the crew put in to sell jokes. It feels like a work of passion following the rock music spirit, and there's a lot of experimentation that happens in Bocchi the Rock where you'll see more things like mixed media elements driving punchlines. It still follows the shape of the source material, but it feels like sometimes someone on the crew just had a wacky idea and they decided to go full-ham on it instead of going the safe route, and I feel like it lands more often than not.

aniMayor

First and foremost it's a comedy. It's making a new joke every couple minutes. There are some musical performances and some people identify with the main character's social misgivings, but those are just sprinkles on top - the core focus of the show is still on delivering a punchline or doing funny cinematography.

OGDYLO

Goddamn I just finished stone ocean, it might be my favorite JoJos part as an anime only. Before I liked part 3 the best for the characters, part 4 for the writing and villain and part 5 for the overall story and atmosphere but part 6 has bested nearly all aspects minus the setting and villain. Part 4 still has the edge because Kira is just more charismatic and menacing than pucci but the final act of part 6 was much more thrilling and unnerving than that of all the other parts. My only two real critiques are that 1. [Stone Ocean spoiler] >!Jolyne and the others breaking out of prison felt and was exhibited to be way too simple considering the hell they went through in it. Jailhouse Lock was a scary ability so I thought there would’ve been a bit more to their getting out than just transitioning them to outside the prison!< 2. [Stone Ocean end spoiler] >!This is more minor but I would’ve liked if this part had 39 episodes. The ending was great but I feel like an additional episode could have made it feel less rushed and then fleshed out the happy ending of it with some more scenes with the gang and a scene with emporio talking to jotaro about what had transpired. Kind of sad that the last we see of jotaro is his head getting split open like oingo had predicted. He is the face of jojos and the original universe so an additional sentimental scene or two of him following the universal reset would have made this part a near masterpiece for me. !< I enjoyed the supporting cast a lot more than I thought I would. Really liked Anastasia, emporio, and weather report. [Stone Ocean spoiler] >!I was expecting to like FF more than I did but their death was good. Hermes was a whatever character to me. She was kind of goofy/not that smart so she added some humor and her stand utilization/importance for the final battle was cool but I’d say she’s the weakest/least likable jobro. !< Overall this part is like a 8.5 or 9/10 for me. Really enjoyed it start to finish, Jolyne is probably my favorite JoJo and [Stone Ocean spoiler] >!as a conclusion to the original JoJos universe. It’s going to be sad to see when part 7 airs that the original joestars are no more in the same vein they were involved as they were prior to part 7. !< I’m also not really sold on the artstyle of part 7+. JoJos part 1-6 had somewhat of a same face syndrome with the males akin to dragon ball but each character still was brought to life with their unique designs and personalities. I’m sure araki is still capable and exceeds this for part 7 and 8 but the faces really just make me think they all look inbred. Hopefully the translation to anime/the adaptation still makes it feel like JoJos and that part 7 will release by 2025.

What's a good resource in seeing what anime (all genres) was most viewed/has been good the last 5 years? I'm....out of the loop since like 2016, lol.

I guess I'm in the mood for some 2000s harem VN adaptation nonsense as I started [Operation Sanctuary](https://www.livechart.me/anime/6922) and didn't immediately quit after the childhood friend woke up the main guy since he was late for school and he nearly walked out the front door with a piece of toast in his mouth.

KingPufflePuff

I suddenly thought of this meme where these 3 girls in panda onesies were dancing around this guy trying to get him to guess which one was his mother but I can't remember which anime it was from. If anyone knows please help. Thanks!

oh, you're right. for some reason I keep thinking pandas. probably too much Kaede Azusagawa.

Spiritual_Lie2563

Since the XBox Anime Month sale started, Reverse Recommendation thread: I narrowed down the stuff I'm on the bubble for whether I want it or not, and what I'm asking for is to be talked out of (or into if you think it's good). My bubble list is: Tsugumomo, Prince of Tennis U-17 World Cup [I saw the original series that made US TV, but nothing since], Tamayomi Baseball Girls, Shoot! Goal to the Future, Scared Rider Xechs, Sabuki Bisco, RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne, Requiem of the Rose King, Re-MAIN, Raven of the Inner Palace, Otherside Picnic, Obey Me! One Master to Rule them All, Legend of Mana- The Teardrop Crystal, Knights and Magic, Juni Taisen- Zodiac War, Dance in the Vampire Bund, Crest of the Stars, Peacemaker Kurogane, Ascendance of a Bookworm season 3 [watching season 1 on Crunchyroll right now], Aria the Scarlet Ammo and AA, AMAIM- Warrior at the Borderline, ACCA. Of them, anything to steer me towards or away any of them could help. [Relevant notes for 'what I watch': I prefer comedies but will watch anything as long as it's good. Notes for the list: I have Crunchyroll already, but prefer to own series to watching on it.]

Verzwei

The ones I've seen in entirety*: * **Tsugumomo** - Safe to skip unless you are *really* into what it is. It's kinda trashy, kinda pandering, and has fine-but-not-amazing art, which somewhat pales when stacked up against the source material, since the original manga art is considered to be *extremely* good, even if you dislike other aspects of the series. It also looks like the MS Store doesn't even have the second season (and that season was never dubbed, if that matters to you or not) so you can't get all of the anime. * **Raven of the Inner Palace** - One of the better shows from last season, honestly surprised me a bit. The banter between the leads, and the protagonist's haughtiness, give it major Spice & Wolf vibes. I was a little let-down by the ending, but what was there was certainly enjoyable. For $5, if you prefer to own licenses rather than stream them, it's definitely worth it. * **Otherside Picnic** - Hrng. This is a tough one, because I kinda-sorta have a love-hate relationship with this anime. First off, let me say that I was introduced to this series by the anime, which got me into the source novels, and they have become my favorite piece of Japanese media. I absolutely love them to bits. I love the world, I love the characters, I love the story. It's basically "Japanese The X-Files, but Mulder and Scully are both college girls and much more obviously into each other" which is like 5000% in my wheelhouse. The catch here is that for anyone who this series isn't explicitly made for, the anime is kind-of... not good. The character performances are fantastic, both in English and in Japanese. The OP, ED, and OST are all great, with the OST in particular giving off Silent Hill vibes. The art and animation are *bad*. It overuses awful 3DCGI even in places where it's totally unnecessary, and the 2D stuff isn't very good either. The anime also messed up the chapter order from the novels and then didn't bother trying to cover the plot holes introduced by that reordering. As much as I adore the franchise, and I've bought the novels (some of them twice because the ebooks come out faster than the print omnibuses) and the manga, but I haven't seen the BD for the anime get cheap enough for me to buy it. If **I** was into digital libraries, for $5, I'd probably snag it. I'm waiting until the BD hits $20 or less. * **Dance in the Vampire Bund** - This is the easiest thing on your list for me to recommend *against*. It's just not very good, it's not very interesting, it's got loli vampire nudity for no reason, there's some needlessly creepy sexual stuff as part of the plot, this one is just all-around bad. I practically *forced* myself through it because it was way back when I was "no-drop" on shows. It's not worth the time to watch it, let alone the money to own it. * **Aria the Scarlet Ammo** - Entirely forgettable. Just a very mediocre action series with a bit of flirting. Then AA is a prequel that has a different protagonist. It's watchable, I'd put it above Vampire Bund (but I'd put nearly anything above Vampire Bund) but there's nothing exciting nor remarkable about it, and there are plenty of other action series that may or may not be "turn your brain off and grab the popcorn" that look better and/or have more compelling or fun characters. \* I have also seen Crest of the Stars but it was so long ago and I have absolutely no memory of it, so I can't say if it's any good or not.

Spiritual_Lie2563

Excellent- luckily Vampire Bund was only on the list because I bought so much I was getting to stuff that was even in the dregs of the dregs. Thanks on the Tsugimomo part too, since I prefer to have the full series if at all available (the only reason that Prince of Tennis and Ascendance of a Bookworm were on my bubble list because both weren't complete.)

Verzwei

Yeah, something went weird with Tsugumomo. Funimation had and dubbed the first season. Then CR (pre-Sony buyout) ended up with season 2. Then the CR acquisition by Sony happened like half a year after the simulcast, and the show apparently fell through the cracks. It never got a dub, nor did it get a BD release. There was also some controversy surrounding it because the NABD release from Funimation for season 1 used a mix of (censored) broadcast footage and (uncensored) Japanese Blu Ray footage.

Spiritual_Lie2563

Yeah; I have had questions for buying series that get split up in the past. I ended up getting things I just couldn't refuse like Teasing Master Takagi-San and Kaguya-Sama season 2 [1 and 3 aren't available], but some worthwhile series like Log Horizon 3 were in the "I need to pass due to how it won't totally be there" (not to mention problems where, for example, Promised Neverland 1 is not on the XBox store but some weird series that never happened is.)

Durinthal

Forgettable at best: * Tamayomi Baseball Girls * Requiem of the Rose King * Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal * AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline From those what I've seen and really *liked* are Crest of the Stars, Ascendance of a Bookworm, ACCA, and Raven of the Inner Palace.

Spiritual_Lie2563

Excellent; and I can see the one I watched of the four- Ascendance of a Bookworm was good from early watch (only going to the bubble because only season 3 is available on the sale.

Nomar_95

out of the ones I'm familiar with, ACCA is the best on here.

TheBigIdiotSalami

How exactly did Production I.G. manage to wrangle Hans Zimmer and Mark Mancina for Blood+? This was post Batman Begins and the year Dead Man's Chest, The Holiday and The Da Vinci Code were done. This would have been a huge get, but I can't find a story behind it.

Cryten0

Hans was a producer, IE he was only involved in the hiring out of his staff of which Mark was the lead. But yeah we do not have anything more to go on other then their expertise where hired for the project. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2005-08-28/hans-zimmer-and-mark-mancina-do-blood+music It was uncommon but occasionally a western star was hired for some music. Though most often just using an existing recording for endings such as Ergo Proxy with Paranoid Android. But sometimes there is not much to talk about.

medstudentfiona

any recommendations for my highly selective taste? i prefer the ones without too much fight scenes nor love scenes, so far i’ve watch Yuri on ice, Land of the Lustrous and Ranking of Kings and liked them all, but am struggling to find what to watch next. Thanks!!

meowy123456

Wave, Listen to Me! and Occultic;Nine.

Nomar_95

Ghibli films

Ornery-Code-6249

Can anybody recommend an anime with good fight scenes that are animated really well? I loved JJK, opm, mob psycho and chainsaw man as well as the later black clover episodes. Interestingly even though demon slayer fight scenes are good I don't like it bc I didn't really like the story. If anybody recommends seven deadly sins I'll go insane

Tanya852

[Soul Eater](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3588/Soul_Eater)

meowy123456

Rokka no Yuusha.

jonnovision1

movie rather than series but you might want to check of Sword of the Stranger if you haven't. some really well animated sword fights throughout. Other than that, some series with some enjoyable fights animation-wise imo are Bungo Stray Dogs Attack on Titan Bleach TYBW (specifically this arc, previous series' animation quality is much more average) HunterxHunter Fire Force Blood Blockade Battlefront Samurai Champloo

isthatsoudane

Demon Slayer has some pretty great animation

Ornery-Code-6249

Hated the story and the characters. Unpopular opinion, I know. But that blonde fella annoyed the shit out of me.

No_Golf9689

I’m looking for some good underrated horror anime, any recommendations?

meowy123456

Denpa Teki na Kanojo.

throwaway95135745685

Machikado S2 Ep 6 slapped so hard its probably the best episode in the entire series. I was really not feeling S2 in the first 2 episodes but now its so good. I need more shamiko.

Syokhan

I adore Machikado Mazoku S2, but yeah, if I had any complaint it would be that the first couple episodes had too much crammed into them and barely gave you a moment to breathe and appreciate the jokes or developments. I think it was a common complaint back when the season was airing last year.

throwaway95135745685

Im loving Riko so much. She is the greatest addition to the cast.

cyberscythe

Every series that makes it to season two has a nostalgia card they can use by playing the S1 OP/ED, and I think Machikado Mazoku used it well. [](#justright)

SnooComics8618

Hello, I few years ago I found anime gif (long one like 5 minutes) with story about boy and dog. It went like this boy loved his dog and dog loved him, but they got somehow separated, they fight to find each other and once boy finds him he turns into big scary monster, then the boy wakes up. I don't know if my description is good enough but maybe someone will help me :P Thanks

Gamerunglued

Going through last week's Pokémon was weird because I totally forgot that Cilan is voiced by Mamoru Miyano, so when he came in I was just like "why is Okabe solving Pokémon mysteries" before getting pulled back into reality. That guy really just shows up everywhere, it feels weird to see high profile voice actors in Pokémon. Also reminded me that the Hatterene line is absolutely fucking terrifying, they will just straight up murder you for feeling things.

Abysswatcherbel

I didn't start the Ice cool romcom yet, but why there's a fox girl there? Lol

Gamerunglued

Because many characters in the show are descendants of yokai. The titular ice guy is an ice guy because he's related to a [yuki onna.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuki-onna) The fox girl is descended from a kitsune, and it's ambiguous as to weather their boss is descended from the Buddha.

Abysswatcherbel

Thanks, thought it was just a normal workplace romcom

seandkiller

About halfway through re-watching Kumo Desu and I gotta say, while the dub doesn't have Aoi Yuuki, it's pretty good. That said I question if I might want to just switch back to subs every time the ED comes around.

Raviel1289

Hey everyone, looking for recommendations maybe with a mythological and fantasy ish sorta genres. I'm not the biggest anime watcher so any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the Fate franchise. Really enjoyed recently Castlevania, Blood of Zeus, and Record of Ragnarok. Thanks in advance!

soracte

Sword-slinging for-adults fantasy action ala Castlevania: * [Ninja Scroll](https://myanimelist.net/anime/617/Juubee_Ninpuuchou) * [Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust](https://myanimelist.net/anime/543/Vampire_Hunter_D_2000?q=vampire%20hunter%20d&cat=anime) (some sf elements) * [Sword of the Stranger](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2418/Stranger__Mukou_Hadan?q=sword%20of%20the%20stranger&cat=anime) * the '97 [Berserk](https://myanimelist.net/anime/33/Kenpuu_Denki_Berserk) * [Kurozuka](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5039/Kurozuka) (some sf elements) * [Garo: Honoo no Kokuin](https://myanimelist.net/anime/23311/Garo__Honoo_no_Kokuin) Relatively serious urban/modern supernatural/fantasy ala Fate: * the Garden of Sinners films, starting [here](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2593/Kara_no_Kyoukai_Movie_1__Fukan_Fuukei), if you've not yet tried them (they're related to Fate) * [Zetsuen no Tempest](https://myanimelist.net/anime/14075/Zetsuen_no_Tempest) * [Darker than Black](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2025/Darker_than_Black__Kuro_no_Keiyakusha) * [Devilman: Crybaby](https://myanimelist.net/anime/35120/Devilman__Crybaby) (particularly gory & unrestrained) * [Sirius](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37569/Sirius) I hope that's helpful, and gives you some things to look into that you might enjoy! Others here might well have other useful suggestions too.

Raviel1289

Thanks heaps for your reply and suggestions! I'll definitely check them out!

soracte

No problem, glad to help. I hope you enjoy them!

new-user4

hi, i'm new with anime. i just finished nanatsu no taisai (seven deadly seans) and i want more like that theme. could someone recommend some series?

JimJamTheNinJin

Fullmetal Alchemist has the 7 sins as characters, it's another fantasy action show as well.

Ornery-Code-6249

Its not exactly the same, but if your favourite aspect was the whole devils/ demons then you might like black clover. It does take a while before animation and story gets good though.

tohru7

Hi, I just finished watching Akatsuki no Yona and I loved it. I’m wondering if anyone could recommend another cool action/romance anime with a nice art style?

soracte

Yona's particular thing—an action/conflict-driven story with romantic subplots but tilted a little more towards a female audience's sensibilities—isn't, I think, super common in anime. Though I could mention * [The Vision of Escaflowne](https://myanimelist.net/anime/182/Tenkuu_no_Escaflowne) (if the art style strikes you merely as being old, at least give it an episode before making a final call on it) * [Romeo x Juliet](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1699/Romeo_x_Juliet) * [Inuyasha](https://myanimelist.net/anime/249/InuYasha) The manga [Basara](https://myanimelist.net/manga/974/Basara) might very well be up your street if you liked Yona, and if you can track it down or are happy to trample upon the laws of the sea; I'd skip the fairly inadequate and partial anime adaptation. And [Twelve Kingdoms](https://myanimelist.net/anime/153/Juuni_Kokuki) rules, but is lighter on romance.

tohru7

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! The recommendations look awesome and I’m so excited to check them out. :)

soracte

I’m glad this was helpful, and I hope you enjoy them!

Chief_Bigbutt

Is there a site that just shows me raw news about the animes i tell it im interested in? Anime News Network used to KINDA do this for me, but its stopped working on my end and there was a lot of pointless crap too like gossip and rumors. Basically the number one reason i want this is because my favorite animes keep making movies and similar things where the story continues and its completely random that i figure out they exist.

Siqueiradit

Not really what you're asking for but, the MAL app notifies me for every new entry related to something on my list. Only the notifications outside the app though, those notifications are nowhere to be found inside the app or on the website.

hello-spidear

Hi I'm getting into anime but prefer stuff that is serious or dark/gritty in nature, but I don't know what's out there Any recommendations would be a huge help

remmanuelv

Other people will recommend shows here's some movies: Sword of the Stranger Ghost in the Shell Akira Perfect Blue Grave of Fireflies Garden of Sinners (7 movies but some are short) A bit of a deep dive but Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel (3 movies)... but you will need to watch Fate/Zero (26 episodes TV) which is fairly dark and Unlimited Blade Works (26 episodes TV) which is a bit more light hearted but still a serious action romp.

hello-spidear

Thank you for these suggestions, I have started the dive into the fate/stay series and am enjoying it so far.

Codtahasabir

Which other shounen anime with supernatural things is announced for the period 2023-2024? Blue exorcist Jujutsu kaisen season 2 Demon slayer season 3 Kaiju no 8 Chainsaw man season 2 (hopefully)

BarbaricGamer

Prety sure Fire Force has a next season confirmed too.

Codtahasabir

How is Fire Force?

jonnovision1

if you can look past or you just like the fanservice, it's a pretty solid battle shonen with interesting world building and some creative powers considering every single one is based on some level of fire manipulation

BarbaricGamer

I'm watching it right now aswell and have 1 more episode to go in the first season. The plot is alright, bit to shounen for my taste but I'm impressed with the amount of fire related powers the author could come up with. The animation is good and the sound design is especially impresive. The big complaint I have with it is the fan service, I'm personally not a big fan of fan service but if you don't mind it than you will like it if you're into battle shounen anime.

Codtahasabir

Neither do I. I remember I couldn't even watch first episode of Fairy Tail because of it.

BarbaricGamer

The worst part about it is the way they implement it, like there is some big serious fight that just gets interupted by a titty grab. It's mostly just one character though tbf.

Codtahasabir

I see.

octopathfinder

Massaman95

>Chainsaw man season 2 (hopefully) I wouldn't count on it

Abysswatcherbel

People are completely clueless if they think csm won't have a s2 because of bd sales

Massaman95

Who said anybody about BD sales, and who said something about csm not getting a 2nd season..?

Silent_Shadow05

We just need to show them Vinland Saga and how it got a S2 despite poor BD sales (but of course the director and a producer had to work hard to make it happen). EDIT: Checking the comment again, OP didn't mean CSM not getting a S2 but rather CSM S2 isn't confirmed to be within 2023-24.

Abysswatcherbel

[I talked about others here](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/z5eo71/sao_progressive_crunchyroll_censored_vs_blu_ray/ixx81kp?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3), Vinland Saga is a good example but that was actually a big flop in Japan, not the case for CSM, the streaming success, a dozen collabs, selling of merch rights to Bandai, Sega and others, % on the OP disc sales and the YouTube ad revenue makes CSM a very profitable series, still not as much as they were hoping which could reduce their profits for a s2, especially in the collab area, it will be harder to make good deals in that front

Codtahasabir

Well, didn't the anime stop before a very important arc? Wouldn't be better to announce the next season early.

leakyshatter

Been a while since I've found a show that grips my attention. I can get into almost anything but does anyone have some sci fi adventure recommendations?

Neoragex13

[Kanata no Astra](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjvq6iRz_P8AhW5mGoFHaxRBPQQFnoECBkQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmyanimelist.net%2Fanime%2F39198%2FKanata_no_Astra&usg=AOvVaw3GTT__omIifGJfm5M9mTp5) In another planet, a group of kids were going to a camping site, but an accident happens and are tossed into exposed space, only saved by the sheer chance of finding a spaceship. After managing to get into it, they decide to return to their home, while trying to survive the trip with whatever they manage to scavenge from the planets they visit. Full adventure, adapted the whole story and had a pretty nice ending, overall one of my favorites.

leakyshatter

Thanks! Checking it out rn

Verzwei

Otherside Picnic, though I'd recommend the novels way over the anime. The anime is what got me into the novels, but the series itself seems tailor-made to suit my tastes, so I could overlook the anime's myriad production shortcomings.

Nomar_95

FlaminScribblenaut

Scythe Mech!?!?!? Tell me what Scythe Mech is from pls

Nomar_95

looks like Gundam Wing

Shimmering-Sky

This one's from Gundam SEED, actually. [](/u/FlaminScribblenaut) The Deathscythe from Wing, especially the [Deathscythe Hell](https://i.imgur.com/InZtEgX.jpg), is *way* cooler.

AmethystItalian

WAY cooler

cyberscythe

oh man, imagine how much space wheat you could harvest with that baby [](#rengehype)

entelechtual

Name checks out…….

FlaminScribblenaut

Oooooh I want that in my life so much But I literally do not have room in any way or capacity for Gundam and probably won’t for years Man

Shimmering-Sky

[Oh well.](#cantbehelped)

FlaminScribblenaut

Eh maybe I’ll just make my own watch order to suit my interests, The Sapphic One -> The Ones With DEATHSCYTHE In Them Surely that’ll be acceptable

Durinthal

For the non-Universal Century ones it makes as much sense as any other order.

Starry_Cupcake

Anime I completed this month: Title | Score :---|:--- Macross 7 | 10/10 Macross 7 Encore | 9/10 Macross Dynamite 7 | 9/10 Macross 7: The Galaxy's Calling Me! | 8.5/10 Macross 7 Plus | 8/10 Tetsujin 28 Go (2004) | 9/10 | Symphogear G | 9/10 | Senki Zesshou Symphogear G: Senki Zesshou Shinai Symphogear | 7/10 Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury | 6.5/10? I also started: - Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans - Symphogear GX - Macross Zero I've also watched a few episodes of the original Transformers, which according to Anilist counts as an anime. Which means I've finished exactly 0 of the anime on my shortlist for this year.

isthatsoudane

ZaphodBeebblebrox

Best Macross and best Symphogear in the same month sounds great. [](#utahapraises)

Durinthal

7 was a fun series, glad you liked it.

_Ridley

It's a little amusing to me that the thing people often ask for and treat as it were rare - a romance where the couple gets together early in the story - is pretty much the norm if you look outside of shounen romances. If people could just get past their reflexive dismissal of female demographic media, they'd find so many of the things they keep asking for.

LoPanDidNothingWrong

Is that really true though? Let’s take a couple of examples: - Kimi no Todoke - no - Ao Haru Ride - no - Our Love Has Always Been 10cm Apart - no - Chihayafuru - no If anything a lot of shoujo seems to revel in misunderstandings and barriers.

_Ridley

Well, I wouldn't say it's all one way or the other, but a higher percentage of shoujosei romance explores what happens after the love confession than shounen romances do. Not that there isn't a place for both, of course.

LoPanDidNothingWrong

I kind of want to map relationship progress vs number of episodes to create a velocity map for romance anime. But honestly it is just because I am weird.

_Ridley

Good luck defining relationship progress, but that sounds like a very fun idea.

LoPanDidNothingWrong

I’d probably be kind of superficial and use something like this: 1. Confession 2. Dating 3. Holding hands 4. Kissing 5. Sex 6. Engaged 7. Married 8. Children It won’t work for arranged marriages or gimmick ones like Tonikawa.

BarbaricGamer

Can't just say this and not give some examples.

_Ridley

Off the top of my head there's: * My Love Story * Say "I Love You" * I'm the Villainess * Snow White with the Red Hair But if we're talking manga, I'd say most of the shoujosei romance I see has them together by volume 3 at the latest.

BarbaricGamer

Yeah those were the ones I was thinking off, its just a shame how littlw those stories get adapted.

_Ridley

I'm reading so many good ones I'd love to see animated, but they all get dramas instead. At least we're getting Sacrificial Princess and Raeliana next season.

high card is a awesome new spy / fantasy anime taking place in today japan about playing cards that give special abilities it only has 4 ep out but is soooo good deff deserves a watch

isthatsoudane

Does it take place in Japan? Seems more like pseudo-London

jonnovision1

seems to have some very intentional Kingsman inspiration too, with an explicit Kingsman reference in episode 3

pandorasfemboy

Hi :) I'm looking for an anime focusing on chess, something like 3 Gatsu but focused on chess would be ideal.

KendotsX

The closest I know is a Jump [chess manga](https://myanimelist.net/manga/71691) from 2013, which didn't make it nearly long enough to get an anime.

pandorasfemboy

Thank you :) this looks good.

Manitary

Does such anime even exist? Chess matches appear occasionally (the only real example I got is No Game No Life, although that's...not quite chess lol), but I don't know of anime anime with chess as its focus. I quick search on [anidb](https://anidb.net/tag/2917/animetb/?cat.minweight=0&noalias=1&orderby.name=1.1&orderby.weight=0.2) seems to suggest that is the case.

pandorasfemboy

That's so disappointing :/ thanks for the help.

SladeWilsonXL9

Hey my best friend is obsessed with Anime. I like some of them but nowhere near as much as him. I want to watch one I’ve never seen before so I have something to discuss with him, but I’m kind of picky when it comes to animes. Out of all the ones I’ve watched, can I list the ones I like and the ones I don’t like and get recommendations based on that? I love: Dragonball Z/Super, Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, I cannot remember the name but the main character was the bad guy, he had a book that if he wrote your name you would die. I liked: Seven Deadly Sins, Food Wars, One Punch Man, Super Crooks and One Piece (I didn’t finish it though, too much for me to catch up on) I did not like: My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Attack On Titan, and Fire Force. Thanks in advance!

Ioxem

Kekkaishi Code Geass Tiger & Bunny

Shimmering-Sky

Seeing as how you loved Naruto and liked what you saw of One Piece, you might also like Bleach (the other one of the Big 3). Just make sure you look up a filler guide since it has some *really* awkwardly placed filler. My other recommendations are Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Jujutsu Kaisen. Maybe the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime as well (Brotherhood is the more accurate adaptation, but the original anime has its merits), though if you don't want to sit through similar-but-not-the-same content for a dozen episodes, I'd say just watch Brotherhood.

SladeWilsonXL9

Thank you so much. So Bleach? Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Jujustu Kaisen. Thank you. Will definitely give them a try. I remember hearing about Bleach since I was a kid (90’s baby). Is it the same one?

Shimmering-Sky

Hopefully at least one of these recommendations works for you! > I remember hearing about Bleach since I was a kid (90’s baby). Is it the same one? Yep! The original anime didn't cover the entire story of the manga though, so if you see a Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War anime around, that's the anime coming back after a decade to cover that last part of the manga. The first part (of four) of Thousand Year Blood War aired just this past season and was *insanely* good in the quality department, so tbh it's worth it to watch all of Bleach for that alone (not to say the original Bleach was bad or anything, I've been a huge fan of it since 2020).

jagiyaah

If i'm gonna watch the new trigun stampede, do i have to watch the older version/season?

everybageleverywhere

I’m watching Trigun Stampede without having seen the old version, and I’m having a great time with it.

Nomar_95

No, you don't have to. Still recommend it since it's great, but Stampede has nothing to do with it

throwaway95135745685

no

WeeziMonkey

Looking for cute / wholesome / fluffy / depression-curing / diabetes-inducing anime that will make even the manliest man squeal "kyaaaa!". Examples of what I've watched: * Soredemo Ayumu * Aharen-san * Sleepy princess in the demon castle * Takagi-san * The Clueless Transfer Student Is Assertive (yet to air) * Komi-san This season: * My neighbour spoils me rotten * Cool female colleague and ice guy * Kubo-san

LoPanDidNothingWrong

Then you should watch the manliest man! Watch Ore Monogatari - is it the most wholesome romance in anime? Maybe.

cyberscythe

> Looking for cute / wholesome / fluffy / depression-curing / diabetes-inducing anime that will make even the manliest man squeal "kyaaaa!". [Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost](https://myanimelist.net/anime/49160/Shachiku-san_wa_Youjo_Yuurei_ni_Iyasaretai) is a series that lit up the "nurture and care" centers of my brain.

Cheezemansam

Watch Chimimo my man, from this season. The show is pure joy and it is a tragedy that it has almost no attention in the west. It has a very "cutesy" artstyle but it really isn't childrens programing per se. It has things like the oldest daughter being a hot mess and the Chimimo's performing ritual sacrifices (they are hell babies after all). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgu54jj2kmQ

collapsedblock6

Considering they are almost all essentially romcoms: Tsurezure Children, Momokuri, Working, Acchi Kocchi, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun When it comes to diabetes stuff I personally prefer CGDCT, if you're willing to give a shot: Gochiusa, Kiniro Mosaic, Wakaba Girl, Sansha Sanyou

entelechtual

Shout out to the Momokuri fans in the audience. Underwatched show that is a delight to watch.

WeeziMonkey

I like both, but I feel like CGDCT (usually) spreads the diabetes out more evenly with a comfy vibe, while romcoms tend to use use intense moments for huge diabetes spikes.

Massaman95

Non Non Biyori

WeeziMonkey

If I had a nickel for every currently airing anime that I'm watching that is on hiatus, I'd have two nickels. Which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. (Nier and Isekai Ojisan)

Siqueiradit

Are you watching Kubo-san? Episode 7 won't air at the original date it would.

Omoshiroineko

I just finished watching Ideon: Be Invoked. While I expected more from this movie, it clearly inspired End of Evangelion and was itself heavily inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey. The ending was very unexpected but a nice surprise for such a bleak movie. Overall a 7/10. I definitely recommend this one if you're into mecha anime like Gundam or Macross.

Quiddity131

One of my all time favorite anime movies!

entelechtual

> This is the place! Looks like it’s ready to start Farming in Another World as a Gundam

Shpaan

Haven't watched anime for years but have been enjoying Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man recently. Any other animes with similar maturity, animation quality, likable protagonists and overall style? I don't need it to be about killing demons at all but both of those shows just ooze quality.

everybageleverywhere

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) is the obvious choice. Excellent animation, very likeable characters.

isthatsoudane

besides mob psycho which was recommended, I'd say...Cowboy Bebop, actually! a little different, but perhaps...Vanitas? oh, and Vivy!

Shpaan

Not gonna lie, Mob Psycho's art style, at first sight, isn't my cup of tea. Not saying I won't give it a try since two people recommended it but I prefer a more... classic anime style? I know about Cowboy Bebop I'm a bit scared how well it aged since old animes often have poor animation quality (at least from what I've seen) but I know it is a cult classic. Both Vanitas and Vivy actually look exactly like something I could enjoy! Can you tell me a bit more about them?

isthatsoudane

>Not gonna lie, Mob Psycho's art style, at first sight, isn't my cup of tea. Not saying I won't give it a try since two people recommended it but I prefer a more... classic anime style? I agree with the sentiment below...I'd say give it 5 episodes. I personally found the first 3 episodes...not bad, but it didn't suck me in. But episode 4 and 5 did. I think by that point you'll have a sense of what the show is about, though I will say that it just gets better and better, ultimately delivering some very powerful emotional moments. But I get that the art may not be what you are looking for. But I will say that the *animation* is very good. Especially seasons 2 and 3...and I think the art helps that, because they have the flexibility to do some really cool things and they very much *do*. Like I said: watch through episode 5 and you will know what I mean. >I know about Cowboy Bebop I'm a bit scared how well it aged since old animes often have poor animation quality (at least from what I've seen) but I know it is a cult classic. Both Vanitas and Vivy actually look exactly like something I could enjoy! Can you tell me a bit more about them? maybe /u/KendotsX and I shoudl be anime friends b/c I agree with them again :) If you're down with episodic, Cowboy Bebop has held up *very* well. And the movie has some fantastic sakuga. Honestly, if you just want incredible art/animation, watch Akira. It's sort of about vibes over story, but like...it was done in the 80s and it's still a high water mark for amazing animation. >Both Vanitas and Vivy actually look exactly like something I could enjoy! Can you tell me a bit more about them? Hmmmm, Vanitas is sort of about sexy steampunk vampires...I guess that description is unfair, though for some people (like me!) that was why I watched it. But it is well done! The characters are very interesting, I think their interactions are good...and one thing I would say it has in common with CSM is sensuality? I think a lot of anime strives to be "sexy" to varying degrees of success, but few shows understand the subtlety of real sensuality. I think Vanitas is probably the "sexiest" show I've watched, but not in a horny way if that makes sense? But closer to how CSM was (I personally thought one of the most interesting parts of CSM was the sort of intensely psychosexual vibe that suffused a lot of it). But it also has a pretty well done fantasy storyline. Noe is great. Vanitas is great. Jeanne is amazing. I dunno, haha, it's hard to distill a show down. Heh, as I wrote this a song from Vivy actually come on my playlist...it's hard to say much about vivy without spoiling it. It's 1 cour and it's a very tightly told story. It's about a world in which there are non-sentient androids, and you follow a singing android (vivy) on...well...on quite a journey. To say more would be spoilers. what I will say is that something I love about the show is the exploration on interpersonal relationships...to say more would be to spoil the joy of the show. I dunno. I love the show. also, while there aren't a ton of fights, the fights that it does have are *very* well animated. some spectacular sakuga. again, not a ton, but some really really great fight animation at moments. I think mob psycho 100 is probably the "better" show, but vivy is shorter, more focused, and just...is a very well executed story that delivers on its themes in what I found to be a profound and meaningful way. Mob psycho was more ambitious, and took more time, and was able to deliver more because of it...but if you don't like the art, well, you don't like the art. I don't think that'd be a concern with Vivy. If you watch any of the above, if you like it or don't, post here and tag me. Would love to know what you think. And I mean even if you don't know if you like it, you really can't go wrong watching Akira. It's a movie (so not a huge commitment) and it's iconic for a reason.

KendotsX

>maybe /u/KendotsX and I shoudl be anime friends b/c I agree with them again :) [](#elderlylove) >If you watch any of the above, if you like it or don't, post here and tag me. Would love to know what you think I wish more people did that. Even if it's just to say "u/someone recommended me this show and it sucked!!"

Shpaan

>I think a lot of anime strives to be "sexy" to varying degrees of success, but few shows understand the subtlety of real sensuality. I think Vanitas is probably the "sexiest" show I've watched, but not in a horny way if that makes sense? But closer to how CSM was (I personally thought one of the most interesting parts of CSM was the sort of intensely psychosexual vibe that suffused a lot of it). That's very good to hear because that's something I enjoyed a lot too but had no idea how to describe it without it coming off wrong. Thank you for your tips! Added all the shows to my list!

KendotsX

Mob does look different, the art style can be off putting for people, but give it a try and see how it moves on the dance floor. [](#seasonalhype "Reigen's smooth killer moves shouldn't be legal") And Bebop is a great example that older anime had figured out the animating thing, the best and worst of animation haven't changed that much. I'd second it if you don't mind a more episodic series.

KendotsX

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Mob Psycho 100
