He goes to Fuji International Speedway to work on a story, and he meets the highschool F4 racer Haruka Asahina. He suddenly finds his heart racing after not feeling much for a long time. With that, he starts supporting Haruka and the "Komaki Motors" youth team to help Haruka achieve his dreams.
>Original Anime by Kadokawa x TROYCA
I didn't know Kadokawa produced originals.
But this looks cool, an Ei Aoki racing anime with an older journalist. ~~Now let's get some Eurobeat music~~
I can immediately think of at least two Kadokawa-produced anime originals (A Place Further Than the Universe and Deca-Dence), I'm sure there's many more
Good shit. I'm glad they didn't straight pump this kid up to top-level racing like some other shows would do. Lots of potential for a junior series story.
Raikkonen too
"He had less race entries than even Max Verstappen! (23 vs 41) He jumped from Formula Renault straight to F1. It's too soon for him! He'll be a danger to himself and everyone on the track (actual comments about his F1 debut)!
He got praised by 3 time Ferrari World Champion (2000 Michael Schumacher) during testing and recommended by the 2 time McLaren World Champion (Mika Hakkinen) too to replace him? Protag syndrome clearly!
And the best thing? He was matching Nick Heidfeld on his debut season and then immideatly got a Mclaren seat the year after, then not winning the WDC in both 2003 and 2005 because the Mclaren was a literal ticking time bomb.
Then move to Ferrari in 2007, win the WDC and after that treat the sport like a hobby.
or Raikkonen, who only had 23 car races of experience before getting a superlicense and getting into F1. The critics at the time included FIA president Mosley.
Hamilton is truly an anime protagonist. Tons of gigantic rivals (Alonso, Vettel, Rosberg, Verstappen).
Fighting for title in rookie season against defending 2 time champ.
Childhood friend and rival Rosberg also makes to f1 and at first they are big friends in f1 until they become teammates where their rivalry spirals out of control until they hate each other while fighting for championships.
Eventually becomes king of the sport, until a newcomer kid comes along and beats him in an incredibly controversial season and finale.
You can make a like a 5 season show (anime or live action) or even longer just to tell his story so far
No one believes me when I tell them the stuff going down in F1 is.. better than the movies, honestly. You don't get this level of adrenaline, suspense, absurdity, comedy, politics, intrigue, angst, stake anywhere else.
Hamilton is a living anime protagonist, Charles is a tragic hero the majority of the fandom would love primarily, Max is the rival turned anti-hero turned villain turned whatever the fanbase will write essays about debating, and Latifi is the undisputed GOAT.
When I didn't knew shit about F1 I thought the accidents were the highlights, unironically.
Now that I started to watch this past season I found me praying for a safe race every race.
F1 is the shit.
Yeah the only relatively reasonable progression would, if the anime was only going up career wise, Piastri, Leclerc or Russell type-careers would do.
If however we are going for the multi-season anime approach, then we can also have a Nyck de Vries type career: struggle around the many junior series, then do Formula E before getting the big break as a reserve by sheer luck (and a missing appendix from the grid) and then finally getting an F1 seat.
Though assuming about this anime, it could either go the traditional F4 Japan-F4 Italian-FREC-F3-F2 route, in which case the entire anime after F4 Japan goes to Europe, since Europe is where everyone in single seaters needs to be for F1 (not even Indycar is good enough nowadays, see Colton Herta). Or they could go the Super Formula route of Super Formula Lights-Super Formula. Then after Super Formula either F1 if the season is extremly good (Gasly route) or Super GT (Super GT being very large in Japan) in other types of seasons.
I thought so too until i re-read the synopsis several times. I'd like to think that Koya is just in a creative slump and the racing kickstarted his creativity and drive ( no pun intended ) to continue his passion.
Seriously. I know it's a business decision and probably wasn't their choice, but it's hard to get excited for a Troyca announcement that isnt Bloom into you 2
Yaoi or yuri baiting typically isn't done for LGBT viewers as much as it is the opposite sex viewers of the characters, generally speaking I'd say most all mainly one sex cast anime have some sort even if it's very, extremely small. Some sort of fanservice for BL/GL fans.
In any case, for this particular one I think they're reading the synopsis as his heart starts racing over the other guy. I figured it's beating for racing in general but idk, I'm not really super interested in the first place just like the poster. I don't trust amazing original anime posters since Appare Ranman lol
"Character drafts" (which I assume means "original character designer") are credited to Takako Shimura, who is best known as the creator of Wandering Son and Aoi Hana. They pretty much exclusively write LGBT stories, so I would assume that this is why it looks gay. Though Shimura was in the same role for Aldnoah.Zero and Battery, which are not very gay afaik, so who knows.
>Takako Shimura, Aldnoah.Zero
My first impression when I first glanced at the visual was "Inaho becomes an F1 driver?!", and then I took a look at the Twitter page where the [character designer even jokes](https://twitter.com/takakoshimura2/status/1616415325846917122) that the MC is a hybrid of Inaho and Slaine.
Yeah nothing after that has been translated, they release one every couple months so sure it's a bit slow but it's always been releasing at least. A couple years ago i looked up the raws but without the text it just doesn't work the same.
Wow i had forgotten about this anime completely since i watched it on tv when I was like 8 or 9. I don't remember much of the plot but I do remember that I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for reminding me.
Don't get your hopes up for MF Ghost. If it's anything like the manga, and its animation doesn't improve from the trailers, it's going to be a shitshow.
I'm still going to watch it.
Now we just need an anime about SCA armoured combat and sports anime would be complete
Ironically, I just found a manga of it recently so it's (hopefully) just a matter of time
I did background search and the series is done on F4. I know we may get Suzuka and Fuji Speedway tracks. You will not see any F1 anime because Liberty Media hold the “F1” trademark.
That is true. I do know Capeta and I love it but I have longed for a more recent depiction of Formula racing for quite a while now - it is a lot to ask for a F1-centric series given how quickly advancements are made and rules change and simply how dynamic it is, but I feel like if done well Overtake would be a tasteful addition and genuinely enjoyable series.
I will keep in my dreams the concept of anime Vettel blasting through Singapore, or on-track duels the likes of Rosberg and Hamilton.
A fellow vettel fan? We could be best friends
Jokes aside (maybe not a joke), I agree thay it would be a huge undertaking to do a full f1 centric series. The quality of animation would have to be high. And well. If it's actually f1 licensing would be costly.
Maybe something like superformula? Cuz it's based in Japan and would make sense for an anime
>Maybe something like superformula? Cuz it's based in Japan and would make sense for an anime
I could see it. It makes much more sense to reference Japan-centric championships such as F4 too in this case when researching and gathering info on the technical aspects and much more. I am quite unknowledgeable about this category since it is fairly new - hasn't even been 10 years since FIA had it officially running as a transparent ladder, in mind, for future prospects to gather points for the superlicense. So in a way, it makes it quite exciting, ngl. Yuki Tsunoda won the F4 Japanese Championship in 2018. I see it as an opportunity at unraveling potential details on feeder series, which otherwise would be quite eclipsed.
>A fellow vettel fan? We could be best friends
Seb may be retired, but his legacy lives in making new friends online. Never tho I will end up talking F1 on r/anime. Yet here I am.
This, I have been looking for someone who has seen this gem of a show. While it's definitely more sci-fi than a real racing series, I think the show (especially the later seasons)is really good at capturing the essence of motorsport.
Let's hope it's not ~~autobiographical~~ based on Yuki Tsunoda.
Wouldn't make for a very exciting F1 anime lol
Edit: I was just making a dumb joke guys.
Yuki won some lower racing series though. In 2018 he won the Japanese F4 championship, and this anime is a story based on F4 (I'm not sure if it's referring to the same F4).
I'm a sucker for anything motoring related since the genre is spread so thin. I don't even like motorcycles and i LOVED supercub and Bakuon. This will be a pleasant new entry for me.
I showed it to a friend and he loved it so much he bought the trail bike from the show. My other friend thought it was the dumbest show he'd ever seen. If nothing else, it's a hilarious 12 ep. Honda advertisement. The animation of the bikes is good though imo. Characters/dialogue on the other hand, probably not for everyone. I think it's worth watching.
You got me curious and I looked it up. I might give it a try.
Have you seen Kino's Journey? It's not about racing, but more about travel, philosophy and experiences, but MC has a talking motorcycle!
I can't recommend it enough. It is the perfect anime to binge in the winter time with some hot cocoa. I love everything about it. The atmosphere, the characters and their developments, the locations are pretty spot on recreations of real stores and roads. I'm not well versed in motorcycles, let alone scooters, but i learned a TON about them through this anime.
I’m a bit sceptical of another TROYCA original anime after *Shinobi no Ittoki* turned out to be a huge disappointment but at the same time, Ei Aoki returning to direct a TROYCA production since 2017’s *Re:Creators* does make me interested.
A very reasonable opinion for most shows… except realistic representations of the lower Formulas, it’s all kids. If you’re 20 you’re on the old side and 20s without a championship you’re just barely hanging on due to your family’s money
F4 has literal high school children. There was a 17 year old that jumped to F1 8 years ago. (now he's a World champion)
F1 in modern age is turning into bunch of bishounen men driving fast cars so I was surprised they hadn't capitalized on that before.
Oh this is quite exciting! It's been so long since I've seen Capeta, I've needed another F1-like anime. Awesome that it also has a great director behind it.

They do sometimes, Love Flops was just last season and this season they are the 2nd investor on High card
Kadokawa producing original anime? No, I don't want that! I want them to just keep producing anime adaptations, for 10 years at least!
I can immediately think of at least two Kadokawa-produced anime originals (A Place Further Than the Universe and Deca-Dence), I'm sure there's many more
Good shit. I'm glad they didn't straight pump this kid up to top-level racing like some other shows would do. Lots of potential for a junior series story.
if Hamiltons career progression was made into an anime I bet people would be complaining it was "unrealistic" lol
Or Max really. "This kid hardly won anything worthy at 16 and they are giving him an F1 seat, skipping F2? Gimme a break. Protag syndrome."
"Wait-..what he won the world title?? What in the-...No, Michael, nono." It is called plot armor, Toto. We went protagonist route.

People that said that don't know wheel. Max destroyed in Karting.

F1 is a real life soap opera that happens to drive cars really fast sometimes
They'll explain it in an OVA that shows the hundreds of hours he did testing at McLaren.
Yeah the only relatively reasonable progression would, if the anime was only going up career wise, Piastri, Leclerc or Russell type-careers would do. Ah the Max's special, straight to the top
Oh, Ei Aoki himself.
Director of Fate:Zero, ID:INVADED, Re:CREATORS, Ga Rei Zero etc., for those who don’t know.
Thats one hell of a roaster NGL *Added to watchlist
He is the studio head. Formed after he left ufotable.
God I saw Re Zero almost twice in that comment. S3 brainrot lol
You mean Fate/Zero, Ga-Rei: Zero, and Re:Zero aren't all part of the same Zero franchise?! My life has been a lie.
No that's a common misconception! However, Re:Zero and Re:Creators *are* both part of the Re: series.
Don't forget the harem series "Girls Bravo".
OH SHIT now I know we’re eating good
Sounds like he has a thing for colons and zeroes
Guaranteed this will look good because of Ei Aoki directing this. Top-tier CG btw.
I can't wait to see posts about this anime show up on /r/formuladank
Man the F1s in that PV are NOT looking good lmao I'm hoping it's just early production stuff but cgi cars ain't looking positive
Those are F4's, but yeah I'm personally also not a fan of CGI too.
>Man the F1s in that PV are NOT looking good lmao Because they're not F1s.
I sense a yaoi bait. Will watch anyways
I thought so too until i re-read the synopsis several times. I'd like to think that Koya is just in a creative slump and the racing kickstarted his creativity and drive ( no pun intended ) to continue his passion.
Is there some automatic assumption among many fans of media that 2 same-sex leads have to be LGBT-baiting or is it just me?
It's just a vibe I got from the synopsis. If it was opposite sex characters I would say it's a rom bait too.
I got the same vibe myself
Troyca did Bloom Into You so maybe? Btw: Bloom Into You season 2 please.
Seriously. I know it's a business decision and probably wasn't their choice, but it's hard to get excited for a Troyca announcement that isnt Bloom into you 2

Feels like both yaoi and yuri baiting are done for female viewers. Usually the shows with yuri bait are female oriented already
it’s not an assumption here—usually when someone’s heart is racing upon seeing another person, it means they have a crush. what else would it be…?
It could be in the context to seeing the racing that his heart starts racing
Could just be a translation thing, might mean something else

Always wanted to see an F1 style anime
*Glares in Cappetta favourite anime*
Capeta is fucking great and didin't deserve the anime ending it got. Manga is sick AF.
I have the 27 volume of the manga and I can't find anymore
Yeah nothing after that has been translated, they release one every couple months so sure it's a bit slow but it's always been releasing at least. A couple years ago i looked up the raws but without the text it just doesn't work the same.
Was trying to find the rest of the manga while I'm here but not any luck
As a F1 fan I always wanted an anime/manga like this.
Wow i had forgotten about this anime completely since i watched it on tv when I was like 8 or 9. I don't remember much of the plot but I do remember that I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for reminding me.
My inner F1 and racing junkie self is going insane. Double W.
Between this and MF Ghost releasing this year, really feels like a homecoming for car and racing fans ever since Initial D concluded.
Don't get your hopes up for MF Ghost. If it's anything like the manga, and its animation doesn't improve from the trailers, it's going to be a shitshow. I'm still going to watch it.
Now we just need an anime about SCA armoured combat and sports anime would be complete Ironically, I just found a manga of it recently so it's (hopefully) just a matter of time
Do share the manga, I'm curious.
Not quite complete. Gotta toss in USPSA/IPSC style practical shooting, since we already have precision shooting with {Rifle is Beautiful}
Nah us Nascar fans need a stock car anime, but I'm looking forward to this anime
Formuladank is going to be all over this
I did background search and the series is done on F4. I know we may get Suzuka and Fuji Speedway tracks. You will not see any F1 anime because Liberty Media hold the “F1” trademark.
People don't know Cyber Formula
One day we'll be able to have a motogp anime... Man I freaking love motogp japan.
Capetta has joined the chat*
….are we actually gonna get some sort of semblance to any form of open-wheel Formula racing anime?? Finally????
Capeta exists. But the manga is better imo (anime was limited by the cgi of the time)
That is true.

Future GPX Cyber Formula is close enough but it's more scifi/drama rather than pure racing.
Still one of my favorite racing anime
The sound track is great.
Yep, also I love the visuals in the Double One op with all of the stuff going into preparing the cars for a race.
This, I have been looking for someone who has seen this gem of a show. While it's definitely more sci-fi than a real racing series, I think the show (especially the later seasons)is really good at capturing the essence of motorsport.
Will it have some S🅱️inalla??

Looking forward to the weird F1 dank and anime memes.
What about the Magic Roulette?
Rawe Creek?
Just when I started to have an interest on F1. Hopefully the vehicles aren't horribly animated.
From the trailer they look like PS2 era CGI.
Nevermind the trailer, the poster's car looks kinda terrible too
It looks like they took a CAD model of the bottom of the car and just drew the cover on top
I watched the initial D this shit can't be worse right
Yeah, but that sound though, fire. I'll take the bad CGI if the audio is on point.
😬
Finally they telling the story of Goatifi.
>Original Anime I'm sold.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past.
Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us....
'take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.'
Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’

Let's hope it's not ~~autobiographical~~ based on Yuki Tsunoda. Wouldn't make for a very exciting F1 anime lol Edit: I was just making a dumb joke guys.
it'd be pretty short
It's about F4. OP has put links.
The guy seems too tall on the picture to be based on Yuki
That's just mean lol
> autobiographical based on Yuki Tsunoda. Since he's not the author it couldn't be.
Adjusted my comment.
Ah interesting, I neither like bikes but have supercub on my watchliat because, it is atleast something with vehicles xD so you recommend it?
I showed it to a friend and he loved it so much he bought the trail bike from the show. My other friend thought it was the dumbest show he'd ever seen. If nothing else, it's a hilarious 12 ep. Honda advertisement. The animation of the bikes is good though imo. Characters/dialogue on the other hand, probably not for everyone. I think it's worth watching.
You got me curious and I looked it up. I might give it a try. Have you seen Kino's Journey? It's not about racing, but more about travel, philosophy and experiences, but MC has a talking motorcycle!
I have not seen that, but it sounds amazing! Thank you for the heads up!
I can't recommend it enough. It is the perfect anime to binge in the winter time with some hot cocoa. I love everything about it. I'm not well versed in motorcycles, let alone scooters, but i learned a TON about them through this anime.
Haha okay :D thanks I am exactly looking for cozy cute anime á la Yuru Camp, DiY and the like, and this sounded similarly nice
For anyone who doesn't know, Capeta is a great manga (has a decent anime but it's quite dated) that goes from karting to formula, it's amazing.
Racing Anime, that's a style I've never heard of.
Time to watch Initial D!
And Wangan Midnight
And Redline!
And Cappetta!
And MF Ghost (soon)
Isn't that initial d 2?
Same author, same universe, different characters and setting
Speed Racer?
Future GPX cyber formula.
BOX BOX...S SS STAY OUT STAY OUT

I’m a bit sceptical of another TROYCA original anime after *Shinobi no Ittoki* turned out to be a huge disappointment but at the same time, Ei Aoki returning to direct a TROYCA production since 2017’s *Re:Creators* does make me interested.
Hello, racing anime? RACING ANIME??? Formula cars???? Is this going to be the first good racing anime since Capeta and Initial D?
Get in there Rewis
Looks good. Hopefully this come out in 2023.
After seeing how bad the CG looks in the PV I'd much rather they work on it longer...
I'm all win for a Formula anime
First MF Ghost, then Highspeed Etoile, and now this? Cool.
Am I the only one who read it as OVERTAKEI at first? I'd watch that.
Siiiiick, more racing or car anime is what I want
F4 anime? Sign me the fuck up!
An animé about racing? Fuck yeah!!

A very reasonable opinion for most shows… except realistic representations of the lower Formulas, it’s all kids. If you’re 20 you’re on the old side and 20s without a championship you’re just barely hanging on due to your family’s money

We’ll see how the mentor relationship goes, maybe some older drivers around too and how much focus those things get
F4 has literal high school children. There was a 17 year old that jumped to F1 8 years ago. (now he's a World champion) F1 in modern age is turning into bunch of bishounen men driving fast cars so I was surprised they hadn't capitalized on that before.
I see that r/formuladank has leaked into r/anime.
Oh this is quite exciting! It's been so long since I've seen Capeta, I've needed another F1-like anime. Awesome that it also has a great director behind it.
LETS GOOO NEW RACING ANIME Hope it doesnt turn out a disappointment like MFG
Oof that would be a 50k fine incoming for the mc already /s
Expect to see a proper document on how many penalty points are earned throughout the season
Awesome, Shimura Takako did the character designs again. :)
A realistic take on youth motorsport training? I'm all in.
Fuck yeah, racing anime!
That looks very similar to the Tatuus F4 chassis. Is this anime going to be about the junior formula?
:O Now I'm interested.
As a motorsports photographer myself, this should be a fantastic watch
Finally a new car anime thats actually about cars
Now that's a spoiler
The inner F1 fan in me is screaming right now!!!
My tyres are gone, Bonosuke!
Hopefully there'll be even more auto racing anime either car or motorcycle There'll be also an upcoming girl car racing anime Highspeed Etoile
About damn time
I’m intrigued
Please?!? I need more car anime after Initial D and wanagan midnight club
Overflow spin off
