Vampire Survivors.
EDIT: Actually I don't know if this is such a good recommendation. It's nearly impossible to just do "one quick run". Beware of the addiction potential of this one.
This is an extremely good answer. Fun, easy to understand, easy to get good at, lots of decent challenges once you've become familiar with the game, and plenty of easy-to-hit targets that you can blow through in a 30 minute or hour-long session.
>in a 30 minute or hour-long session.
I laughed out loud at that, it starts off, only going to be a quick game ....
4 days later, you realise you're hungry, you've not showered or slept, the wife and kids have moved out, and work left a message not to bother turning in since you've been gone so long.
I'm in the process of trying to get game Devs to ban me from the game, so I can get my life back.
It's addictive, to say the least.
It depends. You figured if you complete the run it’s 30 mins
The problem is when you fail a run you go “fuck this I’m going to try again” repeat repeat and next thing you know it’s been 3 hours.
The game is addicting.
Came here to say that! I am not a fan of pixel graphic games but this one (and Children of Morta that’s sadly not on GP anymore) are better / more fun than many AAA titles.
Forza Horizon is perfect for this. You can just drive around for hours. Jump off stuff, crash into others. If desired you, can join a race.
The best part is it could be months between playtimes and the controls are still the same. No need to remember where you are in the story or anything else. Just drive.
It really depends on how you set it up. You can make most everything manual and it becomes a lot less arcade style in the mechanics of playing even if the play itself it pretty arcade.
*Slay The Spire* \- I've put close to 200 hours into that game across Switch and XBox, is probably in my Top 10 of all time. Very moreish, the best card-game-as-video-game I've ever played, and something where you can happily jump on to spend a quick 10 mins, and then find yourself playing for a couple hours.
*Dicey Dungeons* for much the same reasons, though I don't find that it has the legs or 'freedom' of *STS.*
Man, I think I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t enjoy Slay the Spire that much. I love rogue games, I love card games. Hell I love some mobile rogue deck builders. But Slay the Spire just doesn’t do it for me and I’ve tired a lot.
That’s the beauty of games. You tried it and it’s not for you. I am not good at it at all and I’ve only successfully done a run one time. But I keep wanting to try to beat it.
But if you don’t like it, that’s ok.
I've got it on iOS and xbox and can confirm dumping equal amounts of time on both. best is that the iOS version doesn't consistent connection to play, great if you have a subway commute
O yeah. There's 20 ascensions for each character getting harder as you beat the game on each of them. Then there's an act 4 if you get all the colored keys and fight the true boss of the Spire
There’s some campaign games where I didn’t focus on the story and spent time just killing bad guys.
Games like Nobody Saves the World, Archvale (leaving gamepass this month), and Sunset Overdrive. Basically all 3 of these games allow you to kill enemies and level up your weapons.
But then you have games with no real storyline where you just play time and time again until you get the perfect run. Games like Gunfire Reborn or Slay the Spire and Monster Train.
Then You have online games like Chivalry 2 or Halo Infinite and just join lobbies for hours.
You might also enjoy You Suck at Parking. It has a multiplayer option as well as a “campaign” which is really just the multiplayer but solo. It’s basically a mix of Mario kart and Mario party
The original Dooms continually receive community made add-ons, which just makes it feel like there's endless doom gameplay for me. It's easier than doing it on your PC, downloads in game. Awesome.
Highly recommend Doom Zero addon.
Vampire Survivors, monster train, slay the spire, warframe, black desert. Those games were great time wasters which you can drop and pick up pretty easy.
ive prolly put 600 hours on black desert and while i do regret some of the hours ive put in it, its easily a great game for picking it up, play for a few, then put it down which is what i did for most of my time with it but damn it can be addicting
Gunfire is like dead cells but first person. They spent all the money on the gameplay systems don’t let the art style dissuade you. Super fun game. Don’t sleep on it
The 4x games on PC are kinda like that. Time will pass if you play them. Humankind is very similar to Civilization. I've recently been playing Crusader Kings 3. It's the easiest to understand out of the paradox games on gamepass. Victoria 3 just came out about a month ago, it looks fun but I don't have the time to learn the mechanics. Slay the Spire is good for making about an hour per run pass. Spelunky 2 is very fun but also very challenging platformer with very little story of any. If you like sports games they are easy to spend a few hours playing and most of the recent/last year titles are on gamepass.
O also I've been playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and that game is basically Battlefield but Star Wars. But, instead of vehicles you can play as the Heros or Villains from the movies.
Any of the simulator games are like that I really enjoy playing snowrunner and farming simulator and this is coming from someone who isn't really into trucks or farming they are both surprisingly satisfying and addictive once you get the hang of it
I have played everything since Halo 3… still have no idea of nothing of the story, I pay little to no attention to the story. I’m just shooting at aliens. They talk about stuff that happened in Halo 5 and for the life of me can’t remember anything so don’t worry
That i can't do. I have to know the story if there's a story. I want something laid back just jump in and shoot some guy have fun and out. Could do multiplayer if there's a good community online.
What type of games do you like? Do you like to just shoot / hit stuff, do you like to build / plan stuff, do you like rpg elements and character building stuff (rogue like or deeper), etc.?
I don't know man i just wanted something to explore and thought no man sky would be it but from the get go it wanted me to do this and that. I just wanna explore maybe shoot some guys and find something to share with others. I don't know what I want. I just download some games and then don't have the mood to play with them. Don't know what it is.
No man’s sky is pretty fun you jus have to get ur ship built first up then you can do the things you are saying you wanna do I could help you with it I play some no man’s
Yeah I'm at that part and just felt like nah this ain't my cuppa tea but you saying it's amazing so.im gonna try get past that ship thing now. Thank you and have great cake day.
Lots of it pirates sentinels and lots of discovery, most of the game is exploring and killing pirates and doing missions to make millions of quik silver
Then the Legend of Tianding might be something you’d like! It is a side scrolling action beat em up game that has exploration within and outside level segments. There is a story but they provide a recap at the start of every session (so even if you don’t pay attention, you’ll have a general idea of what’s going on)
Come to think of it, Dragon Quest 11 does the same thing (story recap every time you restart the game) so if you prefer 3D RPGs, that’s a great JRPG that I would highly recommend.
If jrpg isn't like Pokemon games where I've to select everything then I can have a blast.
I was actually looking at legend of tiading just now and it was giving me shank vibes just in the good old days.
Easy to play but hard to master is how it feels to me. Sometimes I don't get why the other guy is so much faster than me with the same weapon. It's just skill.
Lonely Mountain: Downhill
TLDR; Single Player, Challenging, Relaxing, Scenic, Deep
Time per game: 5 minutes+
Basically you ride a mountain bike down various scenic and well designed mountains. There are various challenges to unlock and navigate such as getting down the mountain as fast as possible, without crashing, or by following a set path under a time limit. There are many different bikes you’ll unlock that handle very differently and absolutely impact how you might approach a jump or obstacle.
Frankly, this is a hidden gem and is perfect to quickly pick up and play a round or two without recalling a complicated backstory. It also works well with cloud gaming; sometimes I’ll play a round or two from my phone.
While thematically completely different, I get a similar feeling from playing Geometry Wars 2 (not on GamePass, at least until the Activision deal closes, hopefully). If you like games like Geometry Wars, then Lonely Mountain is for you.
For what it’s worth, I unlocked the levels without paying. Maybe they changed it? I just completed the challenges and as I went more and more of the levels unlocked.
Forager might be a good and mindless game for this that has quick progression without having to invest too much and you can have as long or short sessions as you want!
You could also use neat game randomizers such as the "Surprise me!" button in the Xbox Game Pass app (PC or Console) and see if a game comes up that you like. Or you could use another service called [Gamepasspicker.com](https://Gamepasspicker.com) \-- there are a few of these.
Slime Rancher. 2 is on game pass. It's like Stardew in that it really doesn't matter if you min/max. There is no fail state. Just play however you want. Collect slimes. Collect plorts. Make cute largos. save and quit whenever
Vampire Survivors is the game but Turbo Good Racing is really fun to jump in and play fast online competitive races and get some nice skins to tune up your car. Just started second season!
I'll always stand by State of Decay 2. Jump in and loot or clear zombies. Jump out. With Quick Resume you don't have to worry about returning to your base on every run
I really enjoyed Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (T.A.B.S.). There are a few missions late in the game that will take some time, but generally they are all 5-10 minutes (or less in the early game).
TABS has a slight element of puzzle, but it's mostly just kind of lighthearted strategy. You choose units to fight against your opponents, and then you can just hit go and let them fight or if you want you can go first person and control one of your characters. It also has a bit of a goofy style, I thoroughly enjoyed it, though might not be for everyone.
DEEP ROCK GALACTIC!!! Man oh man. There’s a little learning curve. Set it to public when going on missions and learn from the community. Stay close to your team and have the time of your damn life 😂 ROCK AND STONE!

I'm in the process of trying to get game Devs to ban me from the game, so I can get my life back. It's addictive, to say the least.
I said "can" blow through, but I didn't say it was likely!
Now both of you made me REALLY curious!
It depends. You figured if you complete the run it’s 30 mins The problem is when you fail a run you go “fuck this I’m going to try again” repeat repeat and next thing you know it’s been 3 hours. The game is addicting.
Came here to say that! I am not a fan of pixel graphic games but this one (and Children of Morta that’s sadly not on GP anymore) are better / more fun than many AAA titles.
that’s the goty right there
Jesus Christ I have lost hours to this stupid game but it’s so god damn good
Ah you got here first haha. Great shout
I was coming here to also suggest this.
Man I first thought what s stupid game this is then I ended up playing for hours.
Thanks for introducing me to my new addiction.
Forza Horizon is perfect for this. You can just drive around for hours. Jump off stuff, crash into others. If desired you, can join a race. The best part is it could be months between playtimes and the controls are still the same. No need to remember where you are in the story or anything else. Just drive.
Same with Burnout Paradise. (If you want a more arcade-style approach with a similar design to Forza Horizon)
What’s not arcade-style about Forza Horizon? ;-)
I need to go to rehab for this game. It’s addictive as hell
Yeah totally. You can hop *in* pretty easily, but you ain't hopping *out* any time soon!
Man, I think I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t enjoy Slay the Spire that much. I love rogue games, I love card games. Hell I love some mobile rogue deck builders. But Slay the Spire just doesn’t do it for me and I’ve tired a lot.

How do you feel about Monster Train? I loved Slay The Spire but couldn’t quite get into Monster Train, although I do love the card-altering mechanic.
I've got it on iOS and xbox and can confirm dumping equal amounts of time on both. best is that the iOS version doesn't consistent connection to play, great if you have a subway commute
I've just finished Act 3 and got the credits screen. There's more to It besides finishing with every chracter?
O yeah. There's 20 ascensions for each character getting harder as you beat the game on each of them. Then there's an act 4 if you get all the colored keys and fight the true boss of the Spire
And I got sad thinking I've had finished the game too fast 😅 Thanks for the heads up, time to get back to It 💪
I got most of the achievements on Steam now I'm gonna have to get them again on xbox :')
Seriously I can't let myself play or else I get sucked in Who's your main?
There’s some campaign games where I didn’t focus on the story and spent time just killing bad guys. Games like Nobody Saves the World, Archvale (leaving gamepass this month), and Sunset Overdrive. Another vote for Nobody Saves the World!
I'm kinda guy If it's a story I'm gonna go deep in that but i want online or offline that i can jump on like playing side games to my main game.
You might also enjoy You Suck at Parking. It has a multiplayer option as well as a “campaign” which is really just the multiplayer but solo. It’s basically a mix of Mario kart and Mario party
This is the perfect 20 minute game.
Prodeus
I came here to say this. Extremely fun mindless shooter that you can jump into and out of easily. I have had such a blast with this one
I love this game
Vampire survivor is easily the best option. It’s now my new go-to when I just want to turn my brain off and have a quick session.
It's not on Game Pass, but that game for me is Rocket League, which is free though.
Dead cells
Is this on game pass
yeah it is - happy cake day by the way
Thank you my friend I haven’t seen it idk if it’s on the pc one :(
NVM I FOUND IT HAPPY 😃
Chivalry 2
Somerville. 3hrs completion time so you can finish it in a single sitting plus it's from the Inside developer's
I was just going to say this. Its great for a 10 minute random break.
Just completed that and now I want something free to play like I'm.just exploring and stuff no complicated stuff like no man sky has
Try inside, limbo and tinykin.
I just don't know about tinykin. I will see what it's like. Just completed Somerville, now that's a story and a game.
Tinykin is mostly about exploring inside a house where you are a tiny human who wants to go to his home planet.
Similar to pikmin if you’ve ever played
3 hours?! I've spent 3 hours bumping into things.
Every doom game.
Yeah it consumed me for a while.
Disc Room is a great game if your looking for a short challenging experiencing with more to offer incase you liked the experience.
Tabs
Great game
Let's build a zoo.
Powerwash simulator. Plus it's and easy 1000G
Easy yes, long as all hell also yes
Deep Rock Galactic ! Rock & Stone brother !
Yes! Season 3 just launched today too!
Did I hear Rock and Stone?
ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE!
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
Gunfire Reborn
Is it story based or something like play and go ?
A bit like Hades if you've played that before. You're killing enemies and leveling up until you die and start over but you keep your level ups.
Meant to play Hades but it got removed so here I'm thinking what to play.
So far I love it
Hades would have been ideal for what you are looking for. Absolutely not my kind of game on paper but I loved it
Gunfire is like dead cells but first person. They spent all the money on the gameplay systems don’t let the art style dissuade you. Super fun game. Don’t sleep on it
I don't care about the graphics, just something fun and good to play.
Are you good at shooting for the head? You’re gonna love it
Sounds fun gonna give it a try, does it have multiplayer?
4player coop. This is the way
Will try it. You playing? Any chance of playing together?
Sure but I’m level 130 so you’ll have a rough ride. Look me up
Haha looks like you've to carry me.
I also recommend Gunfire Reborn, so fun! Single or multiplayer, both great times.
The 4x games on PC are kinda like that. Time will pass if you play them. Humankind is very similar to Civilization. I've recently been playing Crusader Kings 3. Grounded. Log in, build a base, smack some bugs, log off
Rocket League, easy 3 minutes matchs without any padding.
Definitely gonna try and be better at that.
I agree, but matches are 5 min plus breaks for goals. Maybe you're thinking of Rocket League Sideswipe for mobile?
Prodeus. Had a fun time with that. Minimal story fun og doom like shooter
Forza Horizon 5
Played that didn't get that feel on it like for a game nothing to do in it.
Hades
I Don't have the money.
I didnt realise they took it off GP that sucks :(
Yeah man it was 2-3 months back
Assassins creed
Any of the simulator games are like that I really enjoy playing snowrunner and farming simulator and this is coming from someone who isn't really into trucks or farming they are both surprisingly satisfying and addictive once you get the hang of it
Persona 5 royal it's a fantastic game the only thing that some people don't like it's a very long game about 90 hours
I find sometimes there are long spots between save opportunities. Might not be great for jumping in and out
Halo infinite is my recommendation whatever the answer after the winter update
Haven't played any of the previous entries. Would it hinder me?
I have played everything since Halo 3… still have no idea of nothing of the story, I pay little to no attention to the story. I’m just shooting at aliens. They talk about stuff that happened in Halo 5 and for the life of me can’t remember anything so don’t worry

Yeah I'm at that part and just felt like nah this ain't my cuppa tea but you saying it's amazing so.im gonna try get past that ship thing now. Thank you and have great cake day.
You’ve got this one of the best space games I’ve played tbh so much to explore
I'm just gonna hang around cause you said so If I don't enjoy it I'm gonna come back here and personally tell you that.
Do it, the game isn’t for some but I’ll tell you this fix ur ship and you can go to any planet there are like unlimited amounts
Is there shooting and discovering something new?
Lots of it pirates sentinels and lots of discovery, most of the game is exploring and killing pirates and doing missions to make millions of quik silver
You're making it more and more interesting my man
Not free, but can't be too much- fallout 4, Witcher 3 (still expensive for how old it is)
It's on Gamepass so yeah I can give it a go but not a huge fan of rpg.
Witcher ain't that expensive. Not for the amount of content and it has and how well it still holds up.
TMNT Shredder’s Revenge
Played that and had a heck of time with friends. Yeah something like that but in exploring and beating an up setting.
Then the Legend of Tianding might be something you’d like! It is a side scrolling action beat em up game that has exploration within and outside level segments. There is a story but they provide a recap at the start of every session (so even if you don’t pay attention, you’ll have a general idea of what’s going on) Come to think of it, Dragon Quest 11 does the same thing (story recap every time you restart the game) so if you prefer 3D RPGs, that’s a great JRPG that I would highly recommend.
If jrpg isn't like Pokemon games where I've to select everything then I can have a blast. I was actually looking at legend of tiading just now and it was giving me shank vibes just in the good old days.
Chivalry 2
What's it like?
Medieval era multiplayer. Basically call of duty but medieval
Sounds interesting might give it a try
Easy to play but hard to master is how it feels to me. Sometimes I don't get why the other guy is so much faster than me with the same weapon. It's just skill.
Deadcells. If it’s on there still?
Yeah it there but hear it's hard
Ehh yes and no. Like yeah you’ll die, but that’s part of the loop. Once you figure out what weapons are good you can spam through a lot of enemies
I smell haxs
Noo, i think that’s a fart
Rocket league
I'm going to throw Dead Cells in there

Lonely Mountain: Downhill TLDR; Single Player, Challenging, Relaxing, Scenic, Deep Time per game: 5 minutes+ Basically you ride a mountain bike down various scenic and well designed mountains.
I've actually played this but it got only one level unlocked and others are paid.
For what it’s worth, I unlocked the levels without paying. Maybe they changed it? I just completed the challenges and as I went more and more of the levels unlocked.
Might download and grind through it again
Overwatch and rocket league are my in and outs.
Vampire survivors and Gunfire reborn have been that for me lately.
Definitely Vampire Survivors!
Unpacking, I love playing that
Slime Rancher. 2 is on game pass. It's like Stardew in that it really doesn't matter if you min/max. There is no fail state. Just play however you want. Collect slimes. Collect plorts. Make cute largos. save and quit whenever
Diablo 2 Resurrected or Diablo 3 great game for casual play and to zone out. Great game for 40% attention while watching a movie too
Vampire Survivors is the game but Turbo Good Racing is really fun to jump in and play fast online competitive races and get some nice skins to tune up your car. Just started second season!
Tetris Effect.

What's it like?
You play through a few different characters in a stylish top down shooter. I’d recommend having a look at the pics on game pass
I'll always stand by State of Decay 2. Jump in and loot or clear zombies. Jump out. With Quick Resume you don't have to worry about returning to your base on every run
You might be onto something
Lapin is the only accurate answer.
Played that. Good game
Candy crush
Sadly not on Gamepass
Whoooooooooooosh
I really enjoyed Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (T.A.B.S.). There are a few missions late in the game that will take some time, but generally they are all 5-10 minutes (or less in the early game). DEEP ROCK GALACTIC
Immortals Fenyx Rising or Skyrim might fit that bill.
Oh yeah the Zelda copy is there might just try my Hand on that
Try to look past the similarities. It's a great game.
