I heard some people have changed their name from a Arabic one to a Somali name
Maybe by disassociating from arab beauty standards and clothing standards imposed by religious indoctrination?
By wearing traditional Somali clothes and dressing the way our ancestors did?
Do you guys have anymore suggestions?

Not naming my kids if i have kids with arabic names. i wont change my name, but i will stop the cycle.
Growing out my afro similar to the Somali nomad on my profile pic, rocking a full neat beard instead of the unkept Salafi beard. Clothing wise I wear mostly casual western clothes but when I visit Africa I wear the universal African Dashiki instead of the Arab Kaftan, and been experimenting with the Ethiopian modernised Gabi made out of cotton. The Rwandan Tutsi diaspora have really taken back their identity and culture post-genocide, one of their most successful fashion designer Moses Turahirwa created a brand called Moshions which is a fusion of Afro-Futuristic modernity rooted in their Pastoralist culture of the Cattle herders in the Great Lake regions. As Somalis we have to encourage the new generation in diaspora and back home to forge a path as designers and creatives so we can recreate our ancestral elements with a modern twist.
I just wanted to correct you Sufism isn’t the answer in Somalia it is still ultimately Sunni which means we’d be close to other Sunni countries which is horrible as we have seen from terriost groups. My solution is Mu'tazilites they would accept secularism and are deemed Haram by others which means like Shiism in Iran we can’t be influenced religiously Plus unity of a country is something supported by Mu'tazilites which means we now have a greater religious support for greater Somalia. They are mostly thinkers so unlike salafis and shias they can have philosophical positions on things and thinkers are greatly needed in Somalia Since there would be no other country with Mu'tazilites that means like Iran it would mix with our culture but our culture would do dominate and we won’t be close to no more Saudi which is great also.
The Mu’tazillities were declared heretics and the sect doesn’t exist in the modern world, so that’s not even feasible for Somalia.
No it’s is! Lots of sects and religions have died or decayed until a political revolution put them in. That place buddhism? Practices were very little until countries like Vietnam and Myanmar got independence and they made it there political duty to revive Buddhism. In Syria most people are Sunni but are becoming Shia because assads best friend is Iran so because of his political will Shi’ism is becoming very popular in the country
I don’t think you understood my comment or Islamic history for that matter but I don’t have time to break this down further, read up on the “Apostate” wars after Mo died and all the subsequent different ideological movements that sprung up after and what happened to those individuals, why those ideas never took off in the Islamic world…. Good luck!
Yes but mu’tazilities still exist what do you think zaydi Shi’ism is?
They don’t exist in the modern ummah and I think the same thing I think about other sects in Islam:- same shit different toilet…
Yep but do you think Somalis Gonna abandon Islam? No they don’t they’ll kill for the idea. Moving to a less shitty toilet would bd way better and makes a huge difference
No I don’t think they’ll abandon Islam, but I also don’t think it’s realistic that they’ll be ditching Sunni Islam for a tradition that’s akin to heresy and that hasn’t been seen since the 10th century… also I have no interest in what they believe people have the right to make their own choices, that includes Muslim’s
True but salafi islam needs to be gone ppl get forced to be bold or else
Also some Shia sects like zaydi for example are actually descendent from mu’tazillities
Thanks for breaking it down for me.
are baatis Somali?
Verrrrry much so ! …… the printing technique for the fabric is probably from south east Asia. Quite frankly though, it’s still top 5 indigenous Somali things :)
YES!
I think that’s the best way
Getting my name changed legally soon. That’s my goal.
