What part of your scaphoid did you break? I did the proximal pole, the part with the least blood flow. Mines not displaced and I have time so I’ve been taking my chance avoiding surgery and doing a cast. Im 9 weeks in. Going tomorrow to see if anything is happening or if I should get surgery.

Quesadiaz42

Broke it right in half. Did the surgery and cast for 3 months.

JollyOlDiggerNick

Are you all fixed up now? Back to using it? How do you feel?

JollyOlDiggerNick

Woohoo! Just got back from my appointment today. Proximal pole fracture fully healed after 9 weeks

Quesadiaz42

Nice no surgery needed then eh?

JollyOlDiggerNick

Nah. But my doc pestered me for the last 2 months saying it’s highly likely to be a non union and then need surgery. He wanted surgery from day 1. I have nothing against the surgery or anything but I read a couple studies with around 50 patients and the union rate of non displaced proximal pole fractures without surgery was around 90%. Good enough odds for me to try and it worked out. Doctor was surprised. I was surprised too because in the cases that a proximal pole does reach union without surgery, it’s around 12-14 weeks. I’m at 9 weeks, so I did not go in expecting to come out of the cast today.

I was hyper flexible in it beforehand so it healed pretty well. When it's cold it hurts but overall it's good.

Hey I have one of those too! Fucking hurts doesn't it?

Lucky, I blew mine into pieces and had to have it pinned for 3 months with the pins sticking out of my hand. Was told if i break it again they will fuse it. Stupid bone not getting enough blood.
