3 weeks ago, I payed off my car. 2 weeks ago I upgraded the suspension. Last weekend, my engine exploded
By - KaladinThornblessed
Guess you should have gotten one of them extended warranties they're always calling about
We've been trying to reach you regarding your vehicles extended warranty.
Not interested, I just paid it off and the suspension is upgraded, I'm all set.
Yeah? How does one get a car to do that to them? Asking for a friend.
It’s part of the Pleasure Giving package
It's a flesh light shoved into the exhaust pipe.
That causes anti-matter
LMAO, have a upvote
“This is why you pay us money.”
**Don’t make us do it again.**
Engines blows? Must be a Subaru.
So about that extended warranty....
Hello, we've been trying to reach you regarding your extended warranty on your extended warranty.
I bought one of those from the dealer when I got my current car and it saved me around $350 over the cost of the plan when my fuel pump went out.
In 1971 I had a $300 car (1950 Chevy). Water pump goes out, I go to the junkyard and get one (you find the car and remove it yourself) for $5. Put it in myself with basic tools (tons of room under the hood). Now, it’s some ridiculous $1,000 event.
On the other hand I have a driving appliance that gets 30-40 mpg and I’ve done nothing but oil and filter changes in 50k miles. It just runs.
Hondas have several models with the water pump inside of the engine. It's a maintenance item to replace the timing belt at 100k miles, at which point most people opt to change the water pump at that time. It cost $870 to change water pump and timing belt. If I would only change the water pump it would be closer to $800.
Of course you couldn’t drive 100 miles without fixing a tire on a 50s car. I have a couple of Toyota trucks with 200k + on them and unused spare tires. Haven’t had to break out the points file, either.
There is literally nothing better about 50s,60s, etc cars.
And that 50's car would turn you to mush in a head on collision.
The styling was awesome, but that’s about it.
We still do that. It's a dying art. Saves us tons of money though.
One day the world will realize car salesmen are jus crooks lol
Everyone already knows they are, but they lobby congress so they can remain crooks
It's kind of telling the man to be able to defeat their dealership scam scheme and unlock ship car to door was Elon Musk, should have been a red flag, ominous choir chanting in Latin and all.
This is a final courtesy before my implosion
Or spent the suspension money on a service.
It's really his own fault, they've done everything they can do to reach him.
Generally, the clutch disc is considered a wear item. Most new car warranties don't cover those either.
Isn't the whole fucking car a wear item?
"My engine just blew up!"
"Ooooh, sorry man, that's normal wear and tear."
Yeah bad credit lenders make you get an extended warranty incase something fails on a vehicle, and you can’t afford to pay for the repair & car payment. Burn your clutch out? You’re an idiot that doesn’t know how to drive a stick. torque converter go out? Not your fault 99% of the time, can cost thousands to repair, covered by extended warranty.
This is like being upset that they won't warranty your brake pads. Guess this is your first car?
Lmao, good luck finding a warranty that will cover a clutch
A clutch is never covered under any warranty? It's a wear item. Unless the car is under 10k miles they'll never replace it, plus it's super easy to prove it was user error burning it out not a mechanical one.
Unless it's proved the clutch is defective (aka design problem). Ford (eventually) paid for 2 clutches on my 1989 SHO. The 3rd clutch was an improved design (finally).
That said, in general you are correct.
That car is between 12 and 15 yo, they don't offer warranties for that.
I have never met a Mazdaspeed3 owner.
I have, however, met multiple *former* Mazdaspeed3 owners.
They are actually Ford's.
This is the correct answer lmao. The 2.3l turbo i4 in the Mazda speed 3 is extremely similar to the modern 2.3 ecoboost. Just yknow... about 15 years older and way less powerful and reliable...
Doesn't the RS have an unreliable Turbo i4 as well??
Short answer: yes
Long answer: yes
My dad almost bought one of those.
Ended up with an FR-S. Whined about it the whole time.
You know what he wasn't whining about? A blown engine.
My friend owned one and I rode in it a few times. That thing was falling apart as it went.
When he bought it from the dealer it was missing the driveshaft and nobody told him about it, he had to find that out himself
I would fucking hope his front engine FWD car didn't have a driveshaft???
Maybe I'm thinking of another model then. His was AWD and he went a few weeks with FWD only because the drive shaft was missing. It was a Mazda Speed...something.
Edit: Looked it up, it was a Speed 6
Lmao I was gonna say, if he installed a driveshaft into a speed3 I'd be pretty thoroughly impressed
My neighbor has one that seems to be leaking oil, you can smell when it’s coming down the street
Are we talking the MZR L3-VDT or that Austrian with the bad moustache?
They tend to get the same sort of language.
The mzr. I’m sure the mustache man lasts longer
He was shooting for a thousand years.
Didn't work out.
The Mazda was only looking to hit 5 or 6 but that didn't happen either.
What happens this weekend? Find out next time on Dragonball Z.
Sounds like an engine swap.
I dunno, sounded more like an engine explosion.
That was last weekend.
I don't need another fucking LS swap video
Here I have a Jaguar XJS V12, I'm completely incompetent and trying to solve problems and learn new skills is not my wheel house, I have a slight oil leak coming from the rocker cover gasket, you know what that means....
Just drill some holes here in this plastic plasticky structure part and bam new motor mounts.
Is that the sound of an LS crate being opened?
ahhhhhhhh Ahhhhhh AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Next weekend, set fire to it in an insurance scam.
Also, how come "payed" is becoming more and more common at the moment? It's "paid".
Payed doesn't get autocorrected because payed is actually a word, so it's a spelling error that doesn't get corrected like other ones.
Can you elaborate on the difference/usage?
Paid is the past tense of pay when speaking about money.
Payed is the past tense of pay when speaking about handling a cable or rope, it's the word for letting out by slacking.
Interesting. Payed has to be an antiquated, or industry specific term. Because I've never, and will never hear that word.
It’s a naval industry’s word. To pay out a line (rope).
E.g. “I payed out the line an hour ago, so it should be fine.”
As a former engineer in the merchant marines, hearing a mate say "It should be fine" is one of the scariest phrases to be spoken.
Haha yea… but seamen will be seamen
They're both a past tense / past participle of the word pay. Pay however has multiple meanings, notably one financial and the other nautical.
Paid is the past tense for the financial term, "I paid my taxes last week"
Payed is the past tense for the nautical term, "a seam between the planks of the deck had to be payed with tar"
You'd also use paid for "giving attention to" or "suffering misfortune as a consequence of ones actions"
Edit: you also pay out rope / cable, i.e. letting out slack. This uses payed, e.g. "The contractor payed the cable for the telephone lines". Apologies for forgetting this one!
Hmm I think I'll start using payed for laying stuff out, or sealing seams in general.
I have to pay the peak of my house roof
You've probably never had a use for the word "payed" in your life. It has to do with tarring boats or something.
>seal (the deck or seams of a wooden ship) with pitch or tar to prevent leakage.
"an open groove between the planks had to be payed by running in hot pitch from a special ladle"
sounds like a grammatical error
It’s actually spelled payedd
two D’s for the double dose of this pimpin’
A pimp's love is different than that of a square...
It is a fascinating world though
That line and his face when he’s saying it is etched into my soul.
Fun fact about Upgrayedd...
He was played by the rapper Scarface. The song in the beginning of Office Space when Michael Bolton is [rapping in traffic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XASNM1XEQPs) is by [Scarface - No Tears](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCb40h_gI3I). I think Mike Judge might be a fan.
No we're having fun fellas.
And he is/was in Geto Boys who sing ["Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta".](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIoPlLEXM2Y)
Mike Judge's love for southern rap is real
As real as a pimps love.
> More and more of us have become reliant on the calculators our maths teachers told us we wouldn't have in our pockets
The importance of studying mathematics is more or less the same as exercising. You don't spend an hour each day deadlifting and whatnot because you will be deadlifting frequently in your everyday life.
That kills me about Reddit.
"Schools need to teach real skills like balancing a checkbook!"
They do. It's called addition and subtraction.
Something tells me their spelling and story have a bearing on one another
Now that’s the kind of sober analysis that I expect from Tacitus!
Glad you asked this so I didn't have to.
Thank you for asking I have to keep checking o see if payed is a new word. Sadly it's just the dumbing down of society.
I mean, as explained above, yes, it is technically a word. But it’s never the word you want.
> Also, how come "payed" is becoming more and more common at the moment?
Well, that's what he sayed.
> how come “payed” is becoming more and more common at the moment?
This is a relatively new practice, but some banks keep track of the debtor’s obligation by visualizing loan payment schedules as markers at 1-foot intervals along a length of rope. As the borrower makes payments, he pays out a proportional length of the rope from his reel back onto the bank’s reel—kind of like an audio cassette, but much bigger of course.
When the last bit of rope is payed out, the borrower is free of debt, but sadly still saddled with being ignorant of how “paid” is spelled.
I like you.
Misspellings and misheard phrases spread like wildfire on social media.
“The way she goes”
Fuckin' way she goes he says
Sometimes she goes, sometimes she don't.
The way of the road, bubs
I feel this in my soul. Just spent $1600 getting a brand new set of tires and replacing two tie rods, $350 on tag and fees, and another $80 on an oil change to have our fully paid off vehicle blow a head gasket and break down. Life is a cruel mistress at times.
Damn, sorry to hear it man, you feel like doing it yourself or sending it off to a shop?
It was a 2009 Dodge Journey with around 119k miles on it, so we decided to trade it in. We have gone through so many high mileage cars over the years that we wanted something newer to hopefully avoid getting something different in the next two years again. Scored a 2017 Kia Niro with 19k miles on it, hopefully it'll be with us for a while.
The Kia is a safe bet, dodges aren’t really known as high mileage cars, sorry yours definitely wasn’t
Well there’s your problem...
Life do be like that sometimes
Curse of paying off the loan. Never fails for us. I've warned my daughters and one whose getting ready to pay hers off decided she's going to go look at trade ins this coming week. As soon as she decided that she felt like hers was wobbling funny, tire rod was about to snap so first it sits at the mechanic's.
The tie rod is a minor repair, work and cost wise. That's still far cheaper than taking on a new vehicle loan.
Toe rods are also easy and cheap to do yourself.
Firestone wanted $320 to replace 1 inner tie rod, 1 outer tie rod, and both accordion boots on my 20 year old winter / road trip / hauler vehicle. Instead I replaced both inners, both outers, and both boots myself for $160 and 1.5 hours of my time. Easy.
Did you get it aligned afterwards? Not a bad idea to do so after tie rods replacement.
Yeah. I have a "lifetime alignment" through Firestone. I got the tie rods close and then took it in for an alignment. The tech asked if I did the work myself because everything looked clean and was close.
"Lifetime alignment" through Firestone is more like "toe 'n' go", at least according to the service managers I worked under years ago:
>me: "Hey, this car needs bushings, rear camber is out and not adjustable"
>sm: "Uh, yeah, it's just a lifetime alignment, just set toe and get it out, they aren't gonna buy anything."
>me: "But it needs parts..."
Repeat ad nauseam.
So glad to be out of that industry.
The one near me doesn't do that. I've had my alignment rejected twice because the car needed parts to do the alignment properly. Also I've always been given a before and after spec sheet. Firestone might not be the best but my tires have always worn evenly so I can't complain.
Used to have a 74 FJ40 Land Cruiser...thing had 6 tie rod ends, a pitman bushing, and a center bushing...if any one of them was worn out it was downright scary to drive. Had a few friends help me swap power steering and it made it so there were only 4 rod ends afterwards.
That said, replacing stock to stock isn't bad, though make sure you make real good measurements of the original position before you remove them so that you can realign it well enough to get it to a shop for an alignment afterwards.
Even if you add in the money for a trolley jack, jack stands, breaker bar, sockets and rent the more specialist tools for the tie rods and the lubrication, you’ll still be in a decent position for most other minor repairs.
I just paid off our 2013 Caravan last week (84 month loan - don't do that, kids).
Taking it on an 800 mile road trip tomorrow, so I gave it an oil change and a pre-trip lookover. Found one of the plastic Y-pipes that splits flow between the front and rear heater cores was leaking and getting crusty. It's a known infamous issue - thankfully an easy fix - but the part I ordered immediately after finding it isn't coming until later this week. I packed a handful of tools, a length of heater hose, and a couple jugs of coolant if I need to bypass it in the middle of the AZ desert...
Are transmission still complete garbage on caravans? I really wish that stow and go was on the Sienna.
The 62TE isn't terrible, you just gotta keep up on maintenance. It's effectively an upgraded 41TE with three extra gears (5th + 6th + a second 4th gear, geared slightly lower for downshifts).
It doesn't have a dipstick, but it's got the tube... There's a couple guides on YouTube and forums on how to mark up the oil dipstick for transmission usage.
And yes, if Toyota implemented some form of fold-flat seating like stow and go, I'd trade up.
That’s not a reason to replace the car though. You could fix that on your own if you knew how to.
Walk it off
Rub some dirt on it
Take a salt tablet.
Turns out those salt tablets were horse crank
Just get some rest, it’ll heal right up
*picture of 4 guys around an open car hood that doesn't show any actual damage*
I see 4 guys that look like they can clear a 7-11 out of all its Doritos and Monster, but can't even tell what kind of car he apparently owns.
No, peak Reddit is you having to explain that and having it be in the controversial section of the comments. This is a shit post if I've ever seen one.
This is driving me nuts. In the last year I see the word "payed" almost every other day now on Reddit.
People get all bent out of shape when you correct em too nowadays. That's why we keep seeing "could of" more and more.
Personally, I’d love for people to correct me online given that it’s anonymous—then I don’t have to worry about it going forward. If you don’t care about making mistakes in your writing, move on and ignore corrections, but for people like me who often write in professional/academic settings, it’s actually quite helpful.
*looks closely for mistakes*
Your last sentence is a run on.
god i hate that so much
Don’t read “no country for old men” then
Don't forget possessive apostrophes everywhere they're not needed. Like holy fuck people.
Junkyard engine time?
I also have a gen1 speed3. Any engine mods you think contributed? This is my greatest fear and I’ve had the car for 7 years now
HPFP and a pro tune and you'll never go wrong. Check out more info at r/mazdaspeed3
My focus has a similar motor and I hear that the worst thing is to floor it while in a high gear.
Isn't flooring it on the highway what these cars are...for?
Not in high gear. You downshift then floor it.
It's called lugging the engine and it's the worst for almost all cars.
I’ve heard many stories of people blowing their engine cruising along in 6th gear with cruise control on.
lmao, i totally feel ya. had a reliable daily with my '93 Impreza, upgraded the measly 1.8 to a 2.5 with 2.2 heads, and fucking destroyed the trans. rust was gonna finish it off, but its life got cut short. i'm sure you can find a junkyard engine from a crashed one, though. keep 'er goin'.
Which is why increasing the power output (more correct: torque) should be the absolute last upgrade, after brakes, suspension, transmission, bracing, weight reduction... (in no particular order)
It's possible (likely i'd say) the transmission gave up for other reasons though. Can't imagine the second engine having so much more torque. It's not like you went from a 1.6l to a 5l twin turbo :/
It does have a noticeable increase in low-end torque with that setup, but I think it was more just that I accelerated age-related issues by doing that swap. The 1.8 was so low in power that it probably would've been able to last quite some more time.
was it the mesh that failed?
You forgot #1: tires.
If my 01 Outback ever needs a new engine I'm going to WRX swap it. Luckily, I suppose, that wagon is extremely reliable and runs like new. So I have no real reason to do the swap.
The 2.5L + 5MT in that wagon is a pure mechanical drivetrain with a permanent 50/50 split and a LSD in the rear. [It's unstoppable in the snow.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6xwrf4UW5c)
I'm gonna step my dead 2.5 down to a JDM 2.0, supposably it will be less prone to commiting engine suicide
BACK TO THE PILE
Both of the people on the left half of the photo look like characters being played by Jack Black.
They look like a Toto tribute band.
Gotta love the MZR... Mazda dudes are always posting about zzb (zoom zoom boom).
At least motors aren't too crazy expensive
yeah i had a rod go in an 06 ms6 and put a hole in the block. it was just clutch in, and then no more engine.
Man they're shocking ay. I know 3 guys that have blown up 2.3s (non turbo) and my NC mx5 has blown up a 2.0. I think the 2.5s are solid though, or at least I hope so cause that's what'll be going in the mx5 if it goes pop again.
Three 2.5 that was in my '18 CX5 cracked the block after 50,000km.
That’s a sky activ, not an MZR I think.
Time for an LS swap.
This picture is fucking meme worthy though! At least you got that
Exactly. Engine explodes. Friends happy!
Well were you driving like an idiot? Engines don't explode out of nowhere....
What the hell is this picture even?
Here let me add on to it - it's "paid". The word is paid. Not payed.
You guys look like redditors
This looks like a promotional poster of an early 2000’s movie
Guess it's hard for people to spell the past tense of certain words... "Paid"...
Why did it explode?
That also would describe it operating correctly.
It most likely blew the seals in the turbo and quickly consumed all the oil. I had one consuming a quart every 400 miles with minimal smoke at idle being the only symptom. They have multiple internal engine issues.
At least you have friends
I swear, vehicles wait until you pay that last note for everything to go wrong.
You guys look like a podcast I'd actually listen to.
How did you owe money on a 15 year old car?
There’s a lot of soy in these boys
One of us, one of us...
See you over at r/mazdaspeed3 for the part out thread.
Doesn’t r/wellthatsucks have a rule where the situation has to be apparent in the photo? All I see is 4 happy dudes and a totally intact car... how can we even tell whether any of your story is true?
This is what its like having a HP laptop
The HP laptops don't even wait til they're paid off though.
How do people do this? My sister goes through multiple laptops annually.
I travel for work, my laptop gets tossed around, I have it in my car a lot for projects... I'm on laptop #2 after a decade, and the old one is still in 100% functioning condition.
Damn dude, I feel you. The day I paid off my car, a guy in a golf cart hit me in a parking lot. Have a cold one and try to laugh it off.
Great story progression. Keep us posted on next developments.
you did something and didnt upgrade high pressure fuel pump
Flatbiller in a Mazdaspeed 3 blew an engine? No way!
Maybe next weekend you’ll learn how to spell “paid”?
Please post this to r/roastme
This week your weels get slashed
