I’m no expert, but I reckon the old rebar machine may need a safety guard on it…
I'm no expert but the holes in the table indicate it used to have one.
Don't think those holes are for a guard, more like for tool attachments.
The bolt sized ones on the side, not the big bar ones.
Would think those bolts just hold the side panel on, doesn't seem like this machine ever had a guard.
A tool such as a guard
Could be but no, if you look up any rebar machine, you'll find the only guards they have is for preventing you fingers getting pinching in the rollers. Rebar just rarely snaps like it did here, these machines aren't built with this in mind.
I'm no expert, but I think that's how you make a high speed projectile
I’m no expert
I’m an expert! Not at any of this stuff, but yea!
I’m no expert butt.
Just a butt plebeian
I am butt expert
Would that mean you’re a smart ass?
I am an expert and those holes aren't for guards. They for pins to use as a backstop to hold the rebar from spinning around like a helicopter blade when you try to bend it.
Source: 6 years of rebar fabrication experience and counting.
PS: there's a breakout zone where you should definitely not be standing and the camera man's position was not in it.
Wrong holes, talking at the side of the table where the shroud bolts on.
It's nnot he did not feed enough rebar into the turntable. This accident is operator error.
It didn't pop out because of the end, it broke where it was bending further up the rod
I've never seen one of these have a guard, I'm pretty sure they used a wrong type of metal because it should just shaped it without storing pressure.
But I'm also no expert just a guy who took a few years of shop class
Im no expert but should not the iron be heated to be easier bendable? This looks like room temp.
Plot twist: he was making the safety guard
I'm no expert, but the camera guy is down a testicle I think.
I am no expert but what could stop that kind of force
I'm an expert so trust me when I say that the guards was there, but as you can se it was blown away by the impact.
Shit don't break like that.
Chinese steel does
Average tofu dreg opposer: 😎😎💪💪
Why was it necessary to robot voice those 4 words? Fuck that annoying robot voice.
On a 7 second video, we do not need to be told to wait for the end.
I came here to say this. Do people really have that short of an attention span that they need to be told to wait 7 seconds? It's happening more and more and it's making me nuts. It's like the unnecessary red circle around the obvious thing.
> Do people really have
ye... *oh look shiny*
You didn't say 'read to the end' so all I saw was *Do* and the ADHD took over
No, people just add it to their til tok bullshit because the last video they saw it did the same and "got likes". Just more sheep doing what the other sheep do
I checked out after three words. Kind of gross that you came here.
Damn I guess I'm canceled. Sorry world.
Good thing it was there because I would have only watch 5 seconds otherwise
I never need to be told anything in that shitty robot voice.
I thought it was just me that hated that voice, something about it makes me cringe.
It’s fucking weird, I can read
It feels like it tries too hard to sound real and ends up falling into the Uncanny Valley. Most screen readers just sound robotic and I can handle that, this one doesnt.
For the blind
It’s a video tho
If it were for the blind, it would describe the whole video. Not just say "wait for the end" because then you're just a blind guy listening to a screech and a bang with no context.
It can be so dangerous for operator
Nah, that’s more like, I’m lucky that didn’t cut me or my friend in half and that reality is a bit much to swallow right at this moment
"Wait till the end"
Ok, I know the average attention span is decreasing, but this video is a few seconds long wtf
Wait what happened, I couldn’t wait that long
Me too. I was like a whole sec in, and nothing happened.
Damn you made it a second in?
I sat through the whole video and still don’t know what happened.
I blinked as it happened I think
Just sheep copying sheep for "likes". Same shit as that annoying ass noise every blond dumbass Kyle in the US keeps making... Sounds like "shiiiiiiiiit"
Really luckiest cameramen on earth!
Fr. You gotta be some kind of fool to stand in the danger zone of a piece of machinery that already has it's safety guard removed for some reason
Those machines don't have safety guards to stop rebar from flying.
Is... the guy okay? Doesn't really show because it's cut off. It looked like it connected.
Considering he was still standing filming, imma say he’s unscathed. Any other outcome would’ve dropped that phone as quick as the rebar broke.
I have the most irrational loathing for text-to-voice. It makes everything worse, it's never necessary.
Life must be really hard for you.
That's 2" rebar? That would have been deadly.
Yup looks like it’s #18 bar. By aci code, you need 10x the diameter of the rebar as a bending diameter to make form a hook.
This guy rebars
I believe this may be the first and only time someone has used “rebar” as a verb
That's definitely not #18 rebar more like #10 which is 10/8ths of an inch or 1 and 1/4 inches
No I agree with the original comment. The rebar diameter looks like at least 2”. Also after No 8 rebar, the diameter of the rebar doesn’t strictly follow the size number divided by eight. So 10 rebar isn’t 10/8 diameter, it’s 1.27 in. which doesn’t sound that much different from 1.25 but it is when for example, you calculate As to find bending strength of the foundation from soil pressure, especially when it has 40 #10 rebar plan in one way then using 1.25in to calculate As can really underestimate its bending strength so you might end up over designing it
Trust me i used to easily simplify diameter of #10 is 10/8” and that’s how i got points off of one question about calculating bending strength in my mid term of reinf. conc 1 class 😉
Well I'm just a rebar Fabricator but if you've ever seen #18 you'd know that that radius on the tooling is way too small
At least. It could cut several people in half.
Lol I love Reddit “experts”
Well, I happen to work in a foundry, so…
Yeah, people die there.
A lot of missing fingers, in whole or in part.
I love when people without a clue call someone with a clue an "expert" mockingly.
I promise you without any doubt this wouldnt “cut several people in half”
So, you’ve never experienced flying metal?
Yeah I have. Have you ever seen “several people cut in half” by it?
weird hill to die on hope things get better
I ain’t dyin, not today
Um, no. We have safety protocols.
You happen to work in a foundry so youre qualified to know that this would “cut several people in half”?
So, you have never experienced the power of torque on steel? That broken rod didn’t fall to the floor. It spun outward at an extraordinary rate until it hit something solid. Anything soft, like a human being, would be sliced like a plum.
Mmh a plum 😋
Lol. It would seriously mangle someone but you’re exaggerating the power
Nah dude, you're overdoing it a lot, I think it would crush someone, but it's not sharp enough to cut a person in half. It's dangerous enough to kill someone or several people depending where it hits but with how round that bar was i dont think it would "slice someone like a plum" (and i mean if it hits the torso, legs and neck i think could be sliced).
You don’t need something to be sharp to cut through things, you just need enough speed. There’s machines that use water to cut through stuff. So this bar could definitely slice through anything with enough speed. Also, you said this wouldn’t slice a human and then immediately contradicted yourself by saying it would?
for me "slice someone like a plum" would mean it will cut them in the torso, and that's what i dont think that metal bar could do, sure if it hits the torso it will crush someone internally and kill them, but i dont think it was sharp enough to cut someone in half, i get that bar at that speed is enough to kill anyone but not enough to slice a person like a plum, and a leg, a neck and an arm are the weakest part it can hit and really cut.
and if it hit your arm or feet it would jus break a bone or toes ? if that mf were to hit anyone at that rate it would send their body flying in pieces
I’m wondering where did it end up?
Probably in the wall somewhere.
Right into the unlucky sound guy’s nutz
Or more accurately the unlucky guy's nuts are stapled to the wall across the room by a piece of rebar.
It was a fucking 7 second video. Did they really have to say "wait til the end"?
Here is your video at 0.25x speed
^(I'm a bot | Summon with) ^"[/u/redditspeedbot](/u/redditspeedbot) ^" ^| [^(Complete Guide)](https://www.reddit.com/user/redditspeedbot/comments/eqdo8u/redditspeedbot_guide) ^| ^(Do report bugs) ^[here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=adityakrshnn&subject=RedditSpeedBot%20Issue) ^| [^(🏆#19)](https://botranks.com/) ^| [^(Keep me alive)](https://www.buymeacoffee.com/redditspeedbot)
Even at 0.25x speed the glove literally just disappears.
Thank you for letting me know you can do this
It's missing two safety guards, turn it off.
It's not missing guards. If anything was sticking out of those holes the rebar would run into them when it bends. Those holes are for placing back stops to bend the rebar from the other direction.
Source: 6 years experience as a rebar Fabricator
It is not missing safety guard he simply did not feed enough of the rebar into the turntable. We have a similar machine in our shop no safe guards on it.
I'm pretty sure it didn't slip out, it snapped. Either the material isn't suitable for bending that much, or there was a fault in the material. Or it was too cold.
There's a slightly different colour you can see being fed through shortly before the snap. Could that be a weld joint?
The bar broke. Higher grades break easier and the best way to avoid breakage is just too bend it at a slower speed. Temperature doesn't have any noticable effect.
Anyone else notice the machine is called Rebar Macentire
That could have been a very, very serious injury. Even fatal.
So when it comes to any machinery there is almost always a danger zone that you never stand in for example a handsaw it's directly in line withe the wheels spinning the blade on the side cause if the blade breaks it could come shooting out the side, or a table saw which would be directly behind whatever your cutting cause it can catch and come flying out and the speed of a bullet not joking. So yeah avoid danger zones and don't be this guy.
At my shop we call that machine the widow maker
Wait till the end videos literally 7 seconds long
I’m no expert, but how come nobody got hit. 🤔
he was lucky af. that could have easily cut that man in half.
“wAiT tiL tHE EnD~” 🙄…
Tragedy narrowly averted!
WhErE iS mY Scroll?!
Isn't the machine bending the rebar? Why would it snap back like that?
It looks like there was an area of low quality steel, so when the rebar was being bent, it popped off, and since the bar was already under high stress, suddenly there’s nothing keeping the bent part in place, and the stress falls back into the elastic region (where materials snap back to their original shape) and shoots off
It slipped out because the safety guards were not there to prevent it from happening.
No the rebar clearly snapped, it's just faulty material, probably too hard/brittle.
Probably high silicon. Also means when it’s fed it has a tendency to not run straight. Not surprising as I own a steel wire manufacturing company and the quality of steel over this past year has gone down exponentially
These machines don't have safety guards. We have a similar machine in our shop. This was operator error.
I want some Mt dew now
Somebody prob died
I’m no doctor but I think if he was close enough. That persen would been cut in half.
When the "Professional" operator is wearing a Mountain Dew shirt, you might consider another location.
Well the camera is certainly lucky, I don’t see any evidence of the cameraman.
Should probably get that fixed
Aftermaths on MMC
Why do I feel like the camera man was cut in half and his top half fell right after the video ends
Why the fuck is there a “wait till the end” message with that fucking annoying voice in a 7 secs video.
How do you knows hes lucky? All you can see is it didn't kill him instantly striking the head
Bro that’s two in rebar being flung at a crazy speed. If that hit him **anywhere** he would be dead.
Nice mountain dew shirt.
He’s fine the thing was going next to him so he was lucky but safe too
Make sure you wait until the end of this 7s video. If you only watch the first 5s then you’ll have wasted those seconds.
How loud was that
The camera man got hit but he just shrugged it off
As legends says, A CaMerAmAn never DIES.
Cheap chinese metal
Anyone else that sees/hear it say “wait until the end” just skips to the end?
Old vid. I hope the camera person won a lottery that day.
And that’s when I’m putting in my two second notification.
*Camera man's torso proceeds to slowly separate from the legs
>Luckiest cameramen on earth!
this video doesn't convince me the camera man wasn't terribly injured.
And the that how they discovered guns
These things [really dont have safety guards](https://www.camelway.co.za/dm-content/uploads/rebar-bending-machine-1.webp). Still pretty stupid to stand at that side of the table though.
The torch wasn’t turned on
I have no idea what I’m watching here or what happened.
Maybe push the bar more before bending
doesn't steel need to be heated in order to actually bend it
Dude threw his hands up like a kid who hit his brother too hard with something and wanted to pretend it wasn’t him when mom comes around the corner
If it wasn't for that message, I may have gotten bored and stopped after 3 seconds!
"wait till the end" It's a fucking 7 seconds video
I have a feeling that the video ended to soon and the camera man slowly slid in half like they do in the movies
Shut the fuck up, bitch, I can read for myself. What the flying fuck? I hate this fucking voice more than anything on earth. I don't have tiktok, so Idk can the creators turn that shit off or does it speak automatically.
I swear to god guys, this video is most likely coming from TikTok and that's the main reason of the "wait till the end" quote, people skip over TikToks at the earliest sight of not being interesting. It's a shitty formula but it's not that uncommon.
When you try to hide your boner lol
Can someone tell me how this video ended? I dont have the attention span to watch a 7 second video, even though typing this out took like 3 times that amount of time.
Obligatory /s just in case.
Is this the anime moment where the cameraman takes two steps back before his upper body slides off?
Its a fucking 7 second video. Tf you mean wait til the end
Jeez! That was more affective than the alarm in the morning
Jeeez this could have easily cut a person in half
That's what you get for using tiktok and that stupid voice over shit.
Someone sample that sound and make a fire beat.
remember bois the more carbon % means less ductility
Tried bending it on the wrong plain of the bar.
That vibration probably hurt that dudes hand so bad
I am Rebar Fabricator with 6 years experience. Ask me anything!
Good thing that glove was there to slow it down!
What just happened
This is why u always gotta stay alert and keep ur distance anything could happen outta nowhere in a shop my god if that thing hit him that’s it game over
Quick story : I was working in a body shop in Tampa and my boss didn’t put the car on the lift correctly he didn’t put the lock back on one of the arms of the lift. (a 2014-15 Lexus rcf ) I was standing right under it I heard a weird noise an and decided to move out the way the car fell literally 2 seconds after I moved out the way. Itwould’ve crushed me I had it on security vid on my old phone I wish I still had it u could see me jump out the way it was wild. We ended up having to fix that car for free(beautiful car btw Lexus did a good job)💀🤣💀🤣 it was for a dealership
That was about to be a faces of death video
I hate that voice
I worked as an iron worker for 10yrs and yes it does need more guarding. Thats a small company for sure the big ones are crazy with safety. Was a crazy dangerous job and very physical . Young man's game for sure .
Could that have ripped a huge gouge in the camera man’s chest if that hit him? And also why does that metal bend back to it original shape? Shouldn’t it just bend normally?
I dont know much about this but I would install a safety guard
And then I would make sure the metal I’m using works for that kind of thing, if it can’t be bent that much maybe heat it up so it’s soft?
I had an issue when I was cleaving wood with a hydraulic wood cleaver, my grandpa’s cleaver was modified to not have the safety guard to make it quicker, one of the extenders wasn’t a properly installed extender it was just a piece of wood by the press, when I tried to cleave a particularly hard piece of wood the thing snapped and sent a 3kg piece of wood flying towards my face at an extreme speed, the hydraulic wood cleaver fell to the ground and I blacked out, I wasn’t seriously injured as it just missed my eye but I remember having a severe headache and a very swollen left cheek that made it so I could barely talk for several days
I don’t mess around with stuff like that anymore if the machine ur using needs to be hydraulic to be strong enough to get the job done it could probably hurt you very seriously if something goes wrong
Don’t let people in Mountain Dew tshirts operate anything more advance than a microwave for their hot pockets and pizza rolls.
Yup, saw that coming. I would bet there's probably a warning on that machine that tells you to stay clear of that side
Why does everyone thing camera operators are men?
