Finally in my own truck. Getting to this point has been a HELL of a journey.

Here’s the story…
I was hired on August 2nd of this year. Before my hire dat, I had to go get a DOT physical. No problems.
I did 3 days of zoom training. Then I was flown out to Florida for SFC. That’s the Snap-On Franchisee Conference. Think of it like SEMA for Snap-On. New item releases. LOTS of promotions. And LOTS to see. I got to meet a lot of the franchisees I will be working with.
Then I was flown out to Dallas for my ASMT (Associate Sales Management Training). Upon landing at the airport, I got a call. “While at SFC you may have come into contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of Covid. You need to get tested immediately.
Dun dun dun. Tested positive. I was quarantined in a city 1500 miles from home. And I couldn’t go to my ASMT. After a few days, I started feeling worse and once I even completely lost consciousness and dropped like a rock to the floor. At that point I checked myself into the hospital. Almost immediately upon leaving the hotel I was at, they told the trainers “gather his items, he can not come back here if he has covid”. Nice… Thanks.
After about a week, I was released. But I couldn’t fly home because I was under quarantine orders for another week. So I had to rent a car and drive my happy ass home. Oh yeah. Did I forget to mention that this was during the transition time from my last job to the new job so I didn’t have medical insurance? Yeah. I’m looking forward to that bill.
When I got home and after I was out of quarantine, I got a call from HR. “We know you just had a DOT physical. But we would like you to get another just so we know everything is OK.”
DOT CERTIFICATE DENIED!! Apparently elevated blood pressure may be a lingering side effect of covid. As the doctor said “We just don’t know.” But it was like 166/122.
So after I got my insurance card, I found a new primary care physician. She got me started on a blood pressure med. it’s been about a week and a half now and I got a new DOT physical on Friday. Blood pressure is looking good.
“But how’s your sleep?” Fine… why? “Do you have any issues with snoring or waking up at night because you can’t breathe? Do you need a CPAP machine?” No. I don’t need a CPAP. I breathe fine at night. I have never woken up because I can’t breathe. I have been told I snore a little bit, I never hear it. Ha ha ha”
“Oh. You snore? Well. I want you to get a sleep study done by your primary” What? Why? I sleep fine. What does a sleep study have to do with my 7am - 5pm job? “I just want you to get a sleep study. And because of that, I can only issue you a 3 month DOT certificate”
You can imagine the words I wanted to let fly…
But now I am in my truck (with a trainer) until I can do my ASMT in the first week of October.
I tell you, this has been the most difficult start to a new job I have ever had. But if this is the worst it gets, then it’ll all be worth it.
I’m hoping this will be the last job I ever have and I retire from Snap-On in 20 years.
Don't worry about the bill, the hospital will do you just like the snap-on truck, $20 per week for life. Joking aside, glad you are recovering and it is finally working out
1500 miles is the length of 19007952.76 'Bug Bite Thing Suction Tool - Poison Remover For Bug Bites's stacked on top of each other.
I hate your conversion s
Thank you. Hopefully I can do it justice.
Where will your territory be? I never get the rock and roll truck, it finally showed up to a shop I worked at 2 monthes after I quit
I am in Las Vegas, parts of Southern California, St George Utah, and the “River cities” on the border of California and Arizona
Oh shoot, you will probably come my way eventually then.
Who is your Snap-On franchisee? I’ll see if he’s in my area.
Ahh ok. Yeah, he’s definitely in my area. I met him at SFC. I don’t have an event scheduled with him yet, but I just started driving the truck yesterday. I’m going to try scheduling an event with him soon.
I figured you would know him. He sells a lot of snap on... More than most
Cool I'm on the opposite side of the country, VA. I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and hopefully you find a few tool whores such as I lol
I just have to ask. Can I get a discount?
That’s the main benefit to the Rock & Roll program.
BUT, you can only get discounts when the R&R truck comes to town.
That’s awesome! Pics of inside please 😂
Pretty awesome! Sucks that you had to jump thru all the hoops, but if it was easy everyone would do it.
How's the truck and roll thing work? Is it easier to get into than a tool truck? You only sell boxes correct?
Those dot physicals can be a little bit of a pain depending on where you go. I had an injured knee last time I took mine and didn't wanna mess around. I went to a local Dr that didn't even check my BP
When you say “Get into a Rock & Roll truck” I’m assuming you mean get the job to drive the truck and not physically climbing into the truck.
If so, I’d say it is easier as all you need to do is apply for the job via the Snap-On website. It is a corporate position, so they own the truck and everything in it. You don’t buy the franchise like you do with the tool truck.
And you are correct, to a point. I don’t physically sell anything. I am basically a mobile showroom to show off the boxes and I help facilitate the sale with the franchisees. When I roll into tow for an event (when the franchisee rides around with me, it’s called an event), I am able to get the franchisee a better deal on the Roll Cabs which in turn gets you a better deal.
Oh, okay. That's exactly the info I was interested in. I was trying to figure out. I thought you were like a franchise and owned the truck. Thank you
Ok I need some price checks please……
Unfortunately I can’t make quotes unless I am with your franchisee. That’s how the program works.
Yes I know the deal. Congrats on the franchise
One note though. The Rock & Roll truck is actually a corporate position. It’s not a franchise. I work with all of the franchisees in my area.
But thank you. It is a pretty cool job.
Now that I look better I see it’s a rock and roll truck. That’s cool. I guess it’s better to be a corporate employee than franchisee.
That's is a nice ride. My Snap-On guy tried to rape me by showing up with one of those trucks. He almost got away with it. Haha
What’s his name? I’ll have to have his business manager talk to him. LOL
In all seriousness, there are some fantastic deals to be had on the Rock & Roll truck.
Good, i need to buy some stuff....
Sorry, didnt mean to be selfish. Congrats man. I have no idea how that upgrade/promotion system works, but from what i do know, it takes a lot.
Actually, I just applied for the job. I worked at a dealership before this. Anybody could have gotten the job. I was one of 3 finalists being considered and they must have liked what they saw.
