When a bill collector calls and asks why you haven't been making payments on time, what is a valid reason to give?

So, did you lose your job or get stupid with credit cards?

Because I spent all my money at taco bell and weed.

"I'm broke, but half the rest the bills are paid. Talk to ya next paycheck, bro." Lmao this is the suuuuuper laid-back way of handling it, but tbh I been there and done it. The worst they can do is try and bully you into forking over money, then all you gotta do is tell them straight up "I got one dollar and thirty-two cents in my account right now, that's my bus fair for the week. You want that? Is that enough to shut you up?"

Just ignore the calls. Your credit score gonna take some hits though

Usually they want to help you out if they can, no matter the reason. it's in their job's best interest to go back what they can that you owe them. I work in student loans (not in debt collection) and they do whatever they can to work with people

Tell them you couldn't pay cause you were in prison
