Even if it was desperation. I don't think Luz would agree to kill palismans to keep herself alive. She'd probably just try to find a different way, and if she can't, just accept it and try to live the rest of her days the best she could.

I agree, desperation could make you do terrible stuff. But a more true to character situation would be if Amity or Eda found out about Luz's condition, and tried their best to convince her to kill the palismans instead. She'd say no of course, then they'd try to trick her to take in the palismans' energy by killing them themselves. We'd still get the situation in the panel above but it'd be more of a conversation that Amity has with herself. "Oh no, Luz is dying, but we're out of Palismans, what do we do ? Amity, think, Ghost is everything to you, but your wife is dying, what do you choose ?" A little dark, but it'd fit the characters way more

I like to think of it like this AU's Luz descended slowly into desperation and greed. Her need of palismans is so constant that it overtime overrid all her other cares and worries (like it seems happened to Belos), and now she's trying to manipulate people because she only cares about more palismans. Amity stayed with her because it was a gradual change in Luz, and this is the ultimatum of that change. That's my headcanon anyways.
