I don’t know why people dismiss the lover album because there are so many songs that are so well written! My favorites, with powerful lyrics : - The Archer : All the king's horses, all the king's men Couldn't put me together again 'Cause all of my enemies started out friends Help me hold onto you - False God : The altar is my hips Even if it's a false god We'd still worship this love - Daylight : I once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden - Death by a thousand cuts : if the story’s over, why am I still writing pages? + paper cut stings from our paper thin plan - Afterglow : Why'd I have to break what I love so much?

I used to hate that line from the archer cause of the Humpty Dumpty reference but I've grown to appreciate it. My personal favourite is: >I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost. The room is on fire, invisible smoke I feel like it perfectly captures the feeling of anxiety.

My personal favorite is "and all of my heros die all alone, help me hold on to you" it's so vulnerable it knocked my breath out of me the first time I heard it

I think about this line all the time. The Archer is one of her most hard-hitting songs and it's devastating to anyone who's had similar feeling as expressed in those lyrics

As you can see, I agree. Most underrated lyric ever.

if you love that lyric listen to "all my heros" by bleachers, jack antonoff's band. the archer, all my heros, and perfect places by lorde all carry the theme of heros!

New York by St. Vincent. Lethargy by Bastille. Idk for Taylor (and perhaps Jack) but most of those have Bowie in mind regarding their hero lyrics. There's actually lot of artists that have referenced Bowie around/after his passing.

I still don’t know who these heroes are and it bothers me so much.

That line hit so hard on my first listen - I pointed it out to my partner and said blondie definitely has anxiety because of how simple but accurate it is. The whole song is anxious! The Humpty Dumpty reference I love (I'm glad it's grown on you, so many people hate it!) because it reminds me of the song Einstein on the Beach, but also because I remember being really distressed by humpty dumpty as a kid, the illustration always showed him cracked but still alive and I just was so anxious about it as a child, like is he alive or dead if he's cracked?? His brains are on the ground! So it fits the anxiety of that song extra well for me 😂

This is a very random aside to your comment, but if your inner little kid is still stressed about this, read After The Fall.. it’s a children’s story about how Humpty Dumpty got back up again, and it may surprise and delight you to see how it all turned out. Sincerely, An Elementary School Librarian

I think False God may be her best lyric achievements, or at least on the top 5. The entire song is filled with imaginative images and so much symbolism. She not only compares her love to religion but is able to capture perfectly the sense of shame and guilt that comes with sinning. I also love how she says “staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town/im New York City” and then later “your the west village”. AND THERES SO MUCH MORE IN THIS SONG IT IS A MASTERPIECE UGH

Lover really does have some beautiful lyrics.

Lover has some truly incredible songs / lyrics! I will never get over DBATC, Daylight, & Cornelia Street

That line from The Acrher hit me so hard. If you’ve ever felt that, you’ve FELT it, you know?

I second this. Lover is a pretty well written album, in the sense that it truly brings out the maturity and depth of blondie's emotions.

DBATC is my favorite!!! Catchy song and it’s also so well-written!!

It’s definitely my fave from Lover. My heart, my hips, my body, my love Trying to find a part of me that you didn't touch Gave up on me like I was a bad drug Now I'm searching for signs in a haunted club Our songs, our films, united we stand Our country, guess it was a lawless land Quiet my fears with the touch of your hand Paper cut stings from our paper thin plans My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust Trying to find a part of me you didn't take up Gave you too much but it wasn't enough But I'll be all right, it's just a thousand cuts

Yes I immediately thought of DBATC

YES you picked such beautiful lyrics from each 😍

Soon you’ll get better is written so well it’s difficult to listen to. The lines about her hair being caught in her coat in the doctors office and the holy orange bottles that she now worships are some examples of that songs devastating and real imagery!

my mom has metastatic breast cancer like andrea, and this is my favorite song of all time. the first time i heard it those lines made me stop in my tracks since it fit my experience perfectly.

I’m in a similar position, my mum has stage 4 bowel cancer. It’s heart wrenching to hear this song but it’s just so beautifully written. It perfectly captures how you feel as a daughter or son of a parent with cancer. The best day gets me good as well!

Love the best day too. Can’t really listen to either bc they make me cry haha. Hope you and your mom are doing ok!

Thanks so much. Sending all my best good vibes to you and your mom 🥰☀️✨ I know what you mean, I have them saved in a separate playlist for when I can handle it or when I just need to cry haha.

My parents have both had cancer— dad currently has it. I’m not close to my parents at all but the first time I heard this song, I SOBBED. So powerful.

That song to me will always be about my cat who died. I had so much hope he would get better. I was so alone and isolated in a city where I knew no one and had no purpose, and I used to cry so much to that song driving around and sitting in parking lots. “Who am I supposed to talk to? What am I supposed to do, if there’s no you?” I still cry just remembering it.

I remember being in high school and just blown away by Treacherous. Amazing songwriting.

“Put your lips close to mine/as long as they don’t touch/out of focus, eye to eye/till the gravity’s too much” oh my god it’s so good

I love love love “I can’t decide if it’s a choice, getting swept away// I hear the sound of my own voice, asking you to stay”

I am absolutely disappointed with my late highschool-early college self for sleeping on this song and actively avoiding it whenever it comes on shuffle (was not into the title of the song itself for some weird reason back then). A few weeks after Red TV came out, a powerful typhoon struck my country (Philippines) and our area was left powerless for almost a month. During this time, my sister and I would sing random songs from the album on early evenings just to pass time and she was legit surprised I couldn't sing Treacherous with her as I don't have the lyrics memorized. When she got to the bridge, listening to the lyrics I was like "damn, this song's really good". Whenever I could get a chance to get my phone charged, I would spend a few percent of it listening to Treacherous on repeat and holy sh*t, that bridge is soooooooooo addictive. Why have I been avoiding this jewel for most part of my Swiftie life? And the way she manages to fit the "But you're friction" line in a way that it makes sense to the lyrics preceding it. Is she a physics teacher or something? Lol.

I am SO happy to hear that you love it now!! I'm sorry about the typhoon! But we're closer than I thought lol (I'm an American but I'm in Taiwan). Keep enjoying treacherous!

To throw it even further back, lyrically I think Last Kiss is one of her strongest. Could be a poem, it’s packed with so many poetic devices. (Along with ATW but we knew that already)

“So I watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep/and I feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe” 🥲

one of the most heart wrenching lines she’s ever written

100%. Last Kiss walked so ATW could run.

Yes yes yes. *Last Kiss* was a top tier ballad.

- ATW could mean "All Too Well", a track from *Red* (2012) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/Dida_D](/u/Dida_D) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

YES, THIS SONG IS SO INTENSE! If you listen closely to the bridge, her voice is wavering between the first and second line, like she was close to tears when she was recording: “And I hope the sun shines, and it’s a beautiful day / and something reminds you, you wish you had stayed / you can plan for a change in the weather and time / but I never planned on you changing your mind” So. Freakin. Good.

And I keep up with our old friends just to ask them how you are…..hope it’s nice where you are

😭 omg it’s so good I forgot how heart wrenching it is

Yep, this one right here.

I love Cornelia Street and Back to December

Those are my top 2 faves!

I think Clean from 1989 is an absolutely beautiful song.

Clean is one of the most important songs to me *in life!* I have to listen to it a million times after a relationship ends or any other kind of disappointment. The writing is so good

It is like balm on a wound.

This is what I was coming to say! Clean is so deep and so powerful. It especially spoke to me when I was leaving my high-demand religion. It totally captures that nuance of being free but still missing parts of that old life.

Clean has always been my favorite, and it’s really unique for that album but foreshadowed the kind of dark soulfulness we got so much of on folklore and evermore.

Clean is on my top 5 ugh it helped me move on from a break up

You should’ve written and also not “all too well” . I’ll go with dear John, Cornelia street. State of grace , treacherous , come in with the rain

"All the girls that you've run dry have tired lifeless eyes 'cause you burned them out. But I took your matches before fire could catch me, so don't look now. I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town" is *fantastic*. A+, 10/10, platinum, 🔥. I actually started a note on my phone of my absolute favorite Taylor lyrics. This made the list.

Yes! Also this one “Long were the nights when my days once revolved around you” the contrast between night and day was so clever

Oh it's also like a double meaning! "My days with you were so dark, they were night" and "I would lay there awake at night, worrying and thinking and being upset abourt you."

Dear John is so, so, so so good. “And you’ll add my name to your long list of traitors who don’t understand - and I’ll look back and regret how I ignored when they said, *run as fast as you can*.” Masterpiece.

Lol, I actually wanted to include that in the title but I thought I was maybe cherry picking too much. Know what, screw it. I'm going to include that as an edit. I really want people to think outside the box! Thanks

Haha no It’s your post do whatever you want , I just predict that a lot of people thought all too well was the best written song even after folklore/evermore came out (I personally think folklore has her best written song). So I felt like u might see most people saying all too well

This song is so good 😭

I think the writing in Speak Now is my favorite, I mean there is back to December, last kiss, dear john, long live, haunted, … But I also love the writing in - Dancing with our hands tied, the lines where she says “I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted” is one of her most romantic lines and the whole song is so beautifully written - Treacherous is just flawless masterpiece - Holy Ground is definitely top 5 songs in her discography “Tonight, I'm gonna dance For all that we've been through But I don't wanna dance If I'm not dancing with you Tonight, I'm gonna dance Like you were in this room But I don't wanna dance If I'm not dancing with you” Is simply one of her most beautiful bridges and the whole song is just💯 - shoutout to begin again, daylight, you are in love, blank space, cornelia street, so it goes and Forever & Always

Hi I think you're me? All of these are correct, including the shootouts. Fucking TASTE.

oooooh thank you

I sang Holy Ground in middle school for a talent show over any of her more popular songs because it just speaks to you, you know?

I definitely understand. Every line in that song is so good. The pace, the melody and the production.

Speak Now (the song) is SUCH A FUN SONG.

Yes to Holy Ground. So much yes. Yes to that line from DWOHT, too.

I feel bad that no one ever appreciates sad beautiful tragic. The lyrics convey everything perfectly . Words, how little they mean When you're a little too late I stood right by the tracks Your face in a locket Good girls, hopeful they'll be and long they will wait In dreams I meet you in warm conversation And time Is taking its sweet time erasing you

For me, it’s the *very* next line. “And you’ve got your demons, and darling, they all look like me.”

That lyric is probably my favorite of all time. It’s incredibly haunting and beautiful

I love the bridge… captures the end of a relationship so succinctly. Kiss me, try to fix it Could you just try to listen? Hang up, give up For the life of us we can't get back

I've never been in a relationship this song actually reminds me of my ex best friend

You’re right this definitely fits different kinds of relationships when you just can’t get back to the way it was before even if you try, and it’s hard to forget

But i still waited so long for her to maybe reach out to me and say she misses me too .. good girls , hopeful they'll be and long they will wait ...

I will die on the hill that Better Man is the best song Taylor has ever written. It's got all the elements of a classic Taylor song, staring in the mirror, up at 4AM, and just the line 'i just wish you were a better man" is so biting and honest.

I wish you were a better man is just the sickest burn I can think of. Like that song is literally “we could have been something great if you had been an all around better human” and that cuts deep. In the most satisfying way.

Its one of my favorite things to think about the fact that it's "we'd be great if you weren't so shitty" I love love love the way she did this song

It takes quite a songwriter to say nop Better Man is not going on this album.

You didn’t mention I Bet You Think About Me!

Nothing New has become my favorite song. So incredibly moving and I'm glad this one came when it did.

Daylight or New Year’s Day! But also treacherous. It’s hard to pick.

Daylight and New Year's Day are beautifully written! Her spoken part at the end of Daylight is one of the most memorable moments in any of her songs

I will die on the hill of Death By a Thousand Cuts. That second half is fire. Also I’m a big fan of innocent too.

“ I ask the traffic lights, if it’ll be all right, they say ‘ i don’t know’”

Yep! DBATC is my FAVORITE song of hers… besides pretty much all of folklevermore, that is.

I get drunk but it’s not enough cuz I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s NOT! GENIUS

dbatc is in my top 5 on lover. also her perfromance of it on npc tiny desk was amazing wtf 😬 obviously one of her most underrated lives

And the Live in Paris performance

need to go find this performance….. dbatc is a recent obsession song and i had it solely on repeat for weeks

“Paper cut stings from our paper thin plans.” Just so good!!

I second innocent. It was an instant favorite for me

i will die on both of these hills. absolutely.

The entire bridge of DBATC… a million times yes

I LOVE innocent. I never see it talked about!!!

I have been obsessed with Better Man.

Better man is a quiet hit that doesn't get nearly as much attention as it should

Me toooooo 😫 It’s such a good song!

Red (the song) is amazing. Literally all of the metaphors and comparisons. Never once have I heard someone talk about it

Red is one of my favorite songs. Great lyrics, great melody.

this love, its literally a poem

omg one of my favourites 😭

I think “The Archer” has got to be one of her most poignant songs to date

Yes! As a fellow sag (dec. 15) it was honestly a perfect description of the way I view myself

For me Debut: Tim McGraw Fearless: White Horse Speak Now: Dear John Red: All Too Well 1989: Blank Space reputation: King of My Heart Lover: Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince

Yes miss Americana is so underrated, there are so many allusions, allegories, metaphors, and the production and arrangement is unreal.

Yes, Blank Space is SO smart and has amazing lyrics. I think it's easy to get desensitized to now because it was such a hit.

You All Over Me! Incredible song

Such such powerful imagery in this song! It could be a novel it’s so beautiful

Basically the majority of Speak Now. It’s definitely her strongest album for me. There’s incredible story telling the whole way through, plus you’ve got Never Grow Up, a song that manages to break me every time I hear it.

Totally agree! I feel so connected to the story just by hearing it. Also, Last Kiss, Dear John, Innocent, and Back to December. Speak Now was really just a perfect album!

It really was! Even the sequencing was perfect.

getaway car is imo her best but I might be biased since we saw the behind the scenes on how she wrote some of the lyrics

BLANK SPACE!!!!!!! Guys…listen… In my opinion, ALL of the lyrics in Blank space are sooo good they’re just so smart and witty. There’s no better feeling than driving on a sunny day and screaming out “Cause you know I love the players, and yOU LOVE THE GAME”

And the fact that it’s satire on her love life. Pure genius.

i would say last kiss or innocent

Sad Beautiful Tragic is written so evocatively. It's a collection of vignettes of this relationship that went off the rails as she waits for this guy by the tracks.

Taylor’s singing on that song sounds like she is about to break down. It is such an understated track.

Death by a Thousand Cuts, Death by a Thousand Cuts, Death by a Thousand Cuts, Death by a Thousand Cuts, Death by a Thousand Cuts!!

i always say that “this love” could’ve been on folklore.

There are a surprisingly large number of older songs that with Aaron Dessner instrumentation and production would fit very well on Folklore or Evermore. New Years Day, The Archer, Daylight, Soon You’ll Get Better and Its Nice To Have A Friend. Actually quite a bit of Lover could be reinterpreted like that.

i absolutely agree with you on all of those. lover is some of her best song writing as well, cornelia street is a masterpiece, along with the archer and daylight. and i also feel new year’s day could’ve been on folklore.

Haunted from Speak Now and Wonderland from 1989 for me :)

YES!! My two favorites!!! Both super slept on!

It could just be the fact that this song UNFORTUNATELY hits close to home for me right now, but.. Red “Loving him is like trying to change your mind Once you're already flying through the free fall Like the colors in autumn, so bright, just before they lose it all”

Soon you'll get better has some of the most devastating lyrics and unlike other songs the whole power comes from the lyrics

“and i hate to make this all about me. but who am i supposed to talk to? what am i supposed to do? if there’s no you.” KILLS ME. tears right now just from typing it…

It’s so beautiful but i CAN’T listen to it cause i can’t emotionally handle it!

Why is everyone sleeping on “It’s nice to have a friend”?! The imagery, the double entendre, the simplicity, the vocals. I cannot. Love that song.

Great song! It’s like Seven’s upbeat sister.

Miss Americana is well written and one of my favorites of hers. Others: All Too Well - "They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new Hell every time you double-cross my mind" "You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes Sipping coffee like you're on a late-night show But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come And he said, "It's supposed to be fun turning twenty-one" Clean- "The water filled my lungs, I screamed so loud But no one heard a thing" "Rain came pouring down When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe And by morning Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean" Cruel Summer-"Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes What doesn't kill me makes me want you more" "Said I'm fine, but it wasn't true I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you" Out of the Woods- "I walked out, I said, I'm setting you free. But the monsters turned out to be just trees." "You took a Polaroid of us Then discovered The rest of the world was black and white But we were in screaming color" Dancing With Our Hands Tied - "I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted." "I'd kiss you as the lights went out Swaying as the room burned down I'd hold you as the water rushes in If I could dance with you again" New Romantics- "I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me." "It's poker He can't see it in my face But I'm about to play my Ace" Call It What You Want To-"My castle crumbled overnight, I brought a knife to a gun fight, they took the crown but it's alright." Most of my favorite lyrics are on evermore.

I don’t like Miss Americana at all but all the others you list are some of my all time favorites!! So funny how we all vary so much

KOMH is pure poetry. When I first listened to rep I thought this was a lyrical masterpiece and still do.

Most well written, not necessarily my faves but the songs I think are very well written: Dear John, Whitehorse, blank space, treacherous, call it what you want, clean

Sad Beautiful Tragic, and I'm always so shocked it doesn't get half the attention it deserves! The lyrics are so mature, especially considering it was written back in 2011/12. One of my favorites, for sure!

I mean, I'd put the entire Speak Now album on the same level as folklore and evermore. The woman is a lyrical genius

Definitely one of my favorite songs ever!

I am a less than pretty, cis-male and pretty hetero but Dress makes me want to be her, to be a beautiful woman taking off a Schipiarelli dress and just being in love and impassioned and vulnerable.

You know you can be cis and hetero and still "dress up" sometimes if you want. Just saying ;) My favorite lyrics from dress are the bridge. 🎶 *Inescapable, I'm not even gonna try And if I get burned, at least we were electrified I'm spilling wine in the bathtub, you kiss my face and we're both drunk Everyone thinks that they know us, but they know nothing about* 🎶

My wife has told me the same. Now to find a 7x dress.

Definitely Dear John. It could easily have been on folklore or evermore.

The amount of times I've sing-shouted, *I'm shining like fireworks ovER YOUR SAD EMPTY TOWNNNN.* Dear John is definitely a top 5!

I second this!!

And I third.

Don't You. I never see it talked about but the chorus is brilliant songwriting using "Don't You" in different ways. But don't you Don't you smile at me and ask me how I've been Don't you say you've missed me if you don't want me again You don't know how much I feel I love you still So why don't you, don't you?

Dear John Last Kiss Long Live The Best Day The Moment I Knew Fifteen Sad Beautiful Tragic Blank Space

DBATC. Enchanted. Treacherous.

All of Speak Now 😭

Nothing New is pretty good. I like Clean as well. And Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince is a pretty good lyrical piece as well.

Soon you’ll Get Better completely conveys my feelings from when my mom had cancer, I get emotional whenever I listen to it. (my mom is 2 months in remission now)❤️

TREACHEROUS! and begin again! and enchanted! all of speak now is beautifully written and it’s amazing because it’s an album she wrote completely on her own getaway car is also insanely written… and the other side of the door has one of the most powerful outros ever

Better Man. It’s so heartbreaking and such a slap in the face… “We might still be in love if you were a better man”

It's Dear John for me

sparks fly, lover and mr. perfectly fine!!!

Dear John 10000%

I Know Places is such a well-written and catchy song.

MAATHP gets so much love here and I think it’s so bad 😣 the lyrics feel soooo try hard without actually saying anything meaningful. It’s catchy don’t get me wrong I don’t skip it, but I would NEVER show it to try and impress a non-swiftie Dear John, Call It What You Want, Dancing with our Hands Tied, and The Archer are some of my faves lyrically!

I mean all too well ten minute version is obvious. I really like Nothing new: “criticize the way you fly, when you’re soaring through the sky. Shoot you down and then they sigh and say she looks like she’s been through it.” But honestly the entire song is stunning. Everything has changed: “and all I feel in my stomach is butterflies, the beautiful kind. Making up for lost time, taking flight making me feel like” plus Ed Sheeran’s verse is 10/10 Story of us: “but you held your pride like you should’ve held me” that line alone makes me cry like a baby And there are so so many more but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head :)

This Love from 1989. The extended metaphor for describing a wave like relationship - ups and downs, decisions and timing, learning and growing... and additionally, the VOCALS in this song - we ascend to heaven

story of us the way i loved you tim mcgraw dear john last kiss begin again state of grace wildest dreams lover nothing new now if we are talking about lyrics that give good imagery, my list would be different. obviously i missed a lot of good well written songs, but these are my favs

*Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh* *We can follow the sparks, I'll drive*

It's Nice To Have A Friend.

Cold as you. How a young teenager wrote that when i couldn’t even put my feelings into words in a relationship exactly like that at 24 is just…. Her mind

That's the song that got me into Taylor. I heard it for the first time and I was like who is this???? It's incredible

Put my name at the top of your list

Cowboy like me!

That’s on evermore lol

omg I was thinking too fast :')

Yeah, that's on Evermore. But DEFINITELY on of her most well written songs ;)

All Too Well, no questions asked

all too well is like the obvious answer

I agree with your take on Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince. It is a great political metaphor. One candidate for best lyric would be Nothing New. There is not a single line wasted on that song. However (and despite my flair) I will have to go for Dear John. It’s a long song and it definitely tells a story and thanks to Taylor’s co-writers it is one of her best.

daylight, treacherous, sad beautiful tragic, nothing new

Lantern, burning Flickered in the night, only you But you were still gone, gone, gone In losing grip On sinking ships You showed up just in time Thank you.

all you had to do was stay. no i’m not taking constructive criticism at this time. but genuinely: dbatc, dress and mine are my all time non-everlore lyrical favs

Honestly even in her first 2 albums there are songs that,, to this day, are some of her best written. Cold As You, Tied Together With A Smile, The Way I Loved You All, You All Over Me, and Come In With The Rain come to mind. All convey a spectrum of emotions beautifully, lyrics like "and you come away with a great little story, of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you" and "Talk to the wind, talk to the sky, talk to the man with the reasons why" are just so beautiful and she was SO YOUNG. From Speak Now and RED, I would nominate Dear John, Never Grow Up, Enchanted, Last Kiss, State Of Grace, Treacherous, ATW, Holy Ground, Sad Beautiful Tragic, The Lucky One, Better Man, Nothing New, Forever Winter, and The Very First Night. These songs are all just... exceptional, it's insane that there's so many that are THIS GOOD in writing. For her pop albums, I would say Blank Space, Out Of The Woods, This Love, I Know Places, Clean, ...Ready For It?, Getaway Car, KOMH, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Dress, New Years Day, The Archer, MA&THP, Cornelia Street, DBATC, Afterglow, INTHAF, and Daylight would all be considered some of her most well written, imo.

Last Kiss and New year’s day!

- Clean - New Year’s Day - Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince - False God

I can’t mention MAATHB now…. But I agree I might have to single out Nothing New for its thematic content. It feels like she’s talking to another individual and the general public at the same time.

Wonderland has some gorgeous lyrics that really pack a punch Dear John I mean shining like fireworks over your sad empty town is just wow Back To December is really well done Sparks Fly the visuals she creates

Afterglow 💕💕

Every Speak Now song is a masterpiece. They are all well written with emotional stories told.

I think Never Grow Up is extremely underrated, it’s the perfect description of growing up (at least for me). I never really wanted to grow up (well, I stopped wanting to once I was like 15). I also really connect to it because of my little brother (11 years younger) and my impossible wish for him to never grow up, never get hurt, never get his heart broken etc. Not only that but I got extremely depressed my first semester at college and really felt like she did at the end of her song in her new apartment. I’m on my fourth year out of five, I go home every Thursday and yet every Sunday when I go back, I get anxiety attacks and a physical pain in my heart and a knot in my stomach and throat. I feel terrible for saying this because I know many people suffered but I loved being at home during the lockdowns because I was with my two best friends in the whole world, my mom and my brother. And to be honest, the way that the song flips at the end from “darling don’t you ever grow up” to “oh I don’t want to grow up, wish I’d never grown up”. I guess maybe me wanting my brother to stay little comes from my own desire to stop growing. Maybe it’s an irrational fear but that song was written so perfectly that it describes how I’ve felt for the longest time and still feel daily.

Aww, this is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard! 💗 I agree that's one of her best written songs ever. The lyrics are so incredibly descriptive and paint a picture of what it's like to have to grow up and enter the big bad adult world. As a perennial man-child myself the lyrics resonate with me too. I'm constantly having to force myself to grow up and do adult things I'd rather not do. That's sweet you're so protective of your younger brother and you have a good relationship with your mom. College will get easier and you'll grow stronger and stronger the more you face your fears :)

Aw thank you! I really hope so because I feel like life is dragging me into adulthood and I’m holding onto the frame of the door with every fiber of my being. I just hope that I can continue to have the heart of a child. As long as I become the Phil Dunphy kind of adult I’ll be better. And yeah at least I only have two semesters left(not including this one) and I plan on getting a job close to home and staying at home for quite some time. (Obviously once I have a professional job I will help with mortgage and other expenses and not just depend on my parents and be a freeloader but I am not ready to leave my family). With that being said though… sorry for blabbering haha…. I hope that growing up is something that also becomes easier for you and that you achieve all of your goals and dreams and have the best adulthood that you desire🥺🤍🤍🤍🤍

Nothing New!! To me, it sounds like it belongs on evermore/Folklore because of the lyrics. Chefs kiss.

I Bet You Think About Me is one of her most cleverly written songs. It's not sad, it's simple but still poetic, kinda like Our Song. Especially those small roasts to Jake and even to herself

Dear John Treacherous Dancing With Our Hands Tied Death By A Thousand Cuts

Cornelia Street!!

False God - it encapsulates the makeup sex vibe perfectly and is part of a theme across a bunch of different songs across albums (see: Afterglow for the post-nut clarity of False God) Ditto Miss Americana Nothing New & Forever Winter if vault songs are allowed - just for the sheer honesty and vulnerability of the negative emotions that don’t come from heartbreak Cruel Summer - the word play and turn of phrases foreshadows the more poetic lyrics in evermore and folklore “devil roll the dice, angels roll their eyes” “he looks up grinning like a devil” “always waiting for you to be waiting below” “no rules in breakable heaven”
