So we wanted to run something by you before we get into Friday festivities. **TL;DR** How would you like us to approach stickying threads tonight?
We've got three shows tonight:
- **IMPACT Wrestling: Emergence**, which has their pre-show at **7:30 PM ET** and their main card starts at **8 PM ET**.
- **WWE Smackdown**, which starts at **8PM ET** and ends at **10PM ET**.
- **AEW Rampage**, which starts at **10PM ET**.
We can only sticky two posts at a time.
Our current prioritizations are PPV > Live Threads > Post Show Threads when it comes to stickies. This would then show as the following:
1. At **5PM ET**, the **Smackdown Pre-Show Thread** gets stickied.
2. At **7PM ET**, **IMPACT Wrestling: Emergence** gets stickied.
3. At **7:30PM ET**, the **Smackdown Pre-Show Thread** gets unstickied in favor of the **Live Smackdown Thread**.
4. **AEW Rampage Pre-Show DOES NOT GET STICKIED.**
5. At **10PM ET**, the **Live Rampage Thread** is stickied.
6. Due to PPVs and Live threads taking precedence, the **Post Smackdown Thread does not get stickied at 10PM ET.**
In the case that Emergence ends while Rampage is live, a Post Show Discussion Hub will be made that links to both Post Emergence and Post Smackdown due to Live Shows taking precedence.
Once all three shows are done, we will have Post IMPACT and Post Smackdown stickied due to one being a PPV and the other being a 2-hour show.
How does this sound to you? Suggestions? Feedback? As far as we can tell this is the most fair approach and gives each show their time in the spotlight, with the most time stickied going to Smackdown via the pre-show and live show.
I don’t know if anyone will read this, but use this thread as a Zero Fucks Friday opinion. Hopefully this won’t get deleted.
Fans calling other fans marks is the dumbest shit ever, people who constantly use that term seem like they believe they’re a part of the business.
It's wild to me that somehow AEW fans are the biased ones, overly praising everything, when the show gets shit for any segment or aspect that isn't ideal and people seemingly watching the show looking for something to criticize every week, when by now it's the opposite with WWE where people are going out of their way to find the slightest change and parading how good the shows are, despite those changes being nothing more than the potential that the product might be good in a couple of months.
I'm pretty sure the online consensus would have been ridicule had AEW brought in Kross or Lumis, how they're signing WWE rejects, no one cared about them on the indies, and them returning to WWE is somehow the beginning of a new era. For 3 out of 5 matches of Quake by the Lake, had any of them taken place on RAW, you would hear about it for weeks, have fans screaming at Dave for not giving it 5 stars and have it be proof how HHH is a genius booker, but somehow AEW is doomed and doing everything wrong currently
The more popular wrestling promotion has more fans more news at 10am
You're right, that's why your folks at SCJerk have been complaining about the WWE bias for the past couple of years. I wasn't talking the amount of fans but the way the products are critiqued by their respective fan base/ the wrestling community. But I'm sure that sub will now mock fans counting the amount of camera cuts per minute to prove the product has gotten better, as it's about poking fun at the popular opinions/promotions and totally not about tribalism
The Kris news made me think. She replaced Shida in the Owen. If that hadn’t happened, and the plan was always Britt vs Ruby, how do you think the crowd would have reacted to Ruby going over Shida? Same as when she went over Kris, not as bad/not fussed, or worse?
I really think that promo beforehand helped Stat a ton. It immediately got the people on her side, and they never budged.
Question: How much do you think it's on booking versus a wrestler's talent to see if they are able to be a superstar?
If "superstar" means "one of the greatest", than 50/50, because lack of one will prevent superstardom. If just a memorable character, than it's like 80/20 for either depending on the situation. For example, you can cut "Hard Times" promo, then you will be put in the Polka dots and then you will still look good in them. Or in the reverse you can have a memorable monster run or a fun midcard gimmick even if you don't have it in you to be one of the best. But you will never be called one of the greatest for Polka dots only or for one greatly booked run or cool gimmick with nothing else behind it.
A wrestlers talent can make them a star, it’s up to booking to maintain it. You can have the most talented wrestler in the world who’s over based on their own skill, but if you book them like shit, or don’t book them at all, that will fade.
I always thought it was the other way around:
Booking makes a star, talent is how it's maintained. Sizzle before the steak, in this case.
Well as I get it, the talented ones receive better booking. Buddy Mathews is a good guy to think of, his career booking has been pretty rough, but his overall presentation is always top quality. The powers that be know he's talented enough to do well in any role/position he's given. I think Austin Theory is another good example from WWE side
I ask because I watched a Cornette clip in regards to Wardlow, how he was over after the MJF feud, but is less so now.
Personally, I think booking is how you help a guy get over, and it's on the talent to build on that momentum, or keep it steady.
Orange Cassidy I think on the AEW side is booked solidly throughout, so he always looks to be on the edge of being a main event guy.
I'm not sure about Wardlow, he seemed actually much more over prior to actually wrestling MJF. He overcame what was *keeping him down* and has been unable to generate any type of reaction from me because there just isn't anything for him to go after right now.
Good point. He is a champ now as well.
Anything at this point is just title defense, which is hard to remain an underdog for.
Exactly. So for me the really really top notch guys don't need good booking, they'll shine in anything.
Having to learn that Tyler Breeze was single via upupdowndown and not from the dirtshreets is proof the sheets don’t know what info we need. /s
The PWT newsletter for the day is pushing at least two new “Johnny Wrestling is back!” shirts. Could mean nothing, could mean something.
I've been watching a 'Best of British Bulldog' video (it's a digitisation of an old WWF VHS) and man he was shockingly agile for such a big slab of muscle. I haven't seen anything of him for donkey's years and I'd completely forgotten that. Seeing him jumping over people and pulling off crucifix pins is just ridiculous.
Also how the fuck did Vince win the steroids trial with guys like him and Warlord on his roster ffs. The feds blew that one on a scale normally unimaginable.
Goldberg is absolutely turn off the TV when you see him now, but he's right when he says he's apologized for what he did to Bret. Even the safest workers in the world still get hurt/injure others. I was recently watching the DSotR episode about the Brawl for All, but in that episode there's a short mention of D'lo Brown talking about him paralyzing Puke/Droz and its just heartbreaking to hear D'lo talk about it and it reminded me a lot of how Big E handled Ridge's mishap.
I can't take JD MCDonaugh seriously. He is so cringe doing tai chi and shit, straight outta Fatal Deviation.
Speaking of things that are not cringe, hope we get some Maxximum Male Models action soon. I was listening to Club 69 thid morning and [this song](https://youtu.be/Wg1do1fWbKo) made me think of them.
i just watched the goldberg a&e documentary and my oh my it is certainly something lol.
he seems to be a really good dad and husband though, so props to him for that.
What channel is Smackdown on tonight? Football is on Fox.
If it's preempted in your market you should be able to watch it on the Fox Sports app.
Normally if it gets bumped it moves to FS1.
EDIT: that a regional thing? The only game I can find is on CBS.
Idk. I have charter and it shows the packers game on Channel 2
Weird, that’s the game I was referring to. It’s on CBS here, I have no idea what channel number that would be where I live as I have YouTubeTV.
Thanks. I will check to see if it’s on there.
The Rock is slipping into a new Rocky Maivia phase of his mainstream career. He's trying to be a good guy that everyone likes but a lot of people seem to be getting really tired of how corporate and stale he seems.
Was listening to a Talk is Jericho episode with Bob Mould of Husker Du which was really interesting. Bob Mould from the Fall of 1999 to the Spring of 2000 was part of WCW's creative team and gives some interesting insight of what it was like behind the scenes in that era. As a fan of his music he's a real smart guy who's a knowledgable wrestling fan.
Never talking to Vince Russo again
Young me used to think that all wrestlers sang their own themes like Cena and HBK. I legit thought Edge was singing Metalingus, Triple H was singing "King of Kings". "Time to play the game" and Orton was singing "Burn in my Light"
Triple H is really believable at least
Same. I think for me it was because Shawn Michaels "sung" his own, then after that I presumed all of them did.
When will Billy Corgan find some partners? Or at the very least make up with Dave Marquez. The NWA could be bigger and should be. Maybe Conrad?
Why doesn't someone challenge Jon Moxley in a First Blood Match. It would be pretty easy to defeat him considering he bleeds every week
With the supposed return of Top Dolla and Ashante Adonis, I just wanna take a moment to list off all the tag teams/factions that WWE have now. Since Triple H seems to be giving a lot more love to the main rosters tag division.
#RAW Tag Teams
* The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford)
* Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis)
* Rey and Dominik Mysterio
* The Judgment Day (Finn Bálor and Damian Priest)
* The Miz and Ciampa
* RK-Bro? (Randy Orton and Riddle)
#Smackdown Tag Teams
* Los Lotharios (Angel Garza and Humberto)
* The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E when he gets back)
* The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, and BUTCH)
* The ~~New Vicious~~ Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar)
* The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)
* Jinder Mahal and Shanky
* Maximum Male Models (Ma.çé and Mån.sôör)
* Top Dolla and Ashante
* Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs (whenever he gets back)
The Usos are on both shows now, but if they lose the belts they probably do get kicked back to Smackdown.
People are wild about joshi wrestling. "They have to bring themselves down to wrestle in US". "How obvious the difference in skill is". How hard is it to just like how they wrestle.
Hey a pretty random question but I’m going to my first WWE event ever (smack down) it starts at 445pm and was seeing how long the event lasts? 2 hours? Let me know! Thanks
There will normally be one or two dark matches before Smackdown starts, and one dark match after. So I safe bet would be 3 hours - 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
Last time I went to Smackdown I got there at 4:40pm (fellow Pacific time-zoner here) thanks to traffic & parking, and there was already a dark match in-progress.
Watching SummerSlam 1993, Steiner Bros vs Heavenly Bodies is a fun as hell match, with a white hot Steiner hometown crowd.
Wild Thing > Cult of Personality
Onita >> Moxley
Unscripted Violence > Wild Thing
Cult of Personality > Wild Thing
Okay, but hear me out: [Death Rider](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91CuUQHXE58)
Am I the only one who thinks it’s very anti-climactic if Omega returns to compete in a trios tournament?
This is the guy who is the true ace of the company, he should be in singles feuds with people like Mox, Punk etc.
I’m super excited if he is coming back but I’m not overly thrilled about him competing in the trios stuff.
Unless it’s due to him not being 100% still and he doesn’t have to do as much but if that’s the case he should just rest up until he’s ready to go properly.
Hopefully the "trios stuff" feels a lot bigger as teams are revealed and big returns like that speculated one
> Unless it’s due to him not being 100% still and he doesn’t have to do as much but if that’s the case he should just rest up until he’s ready to go properly.
That's not really possible.
So, kinda wanted to discuss something complex here regarding contracts. We've seen people who've wanted out in different leagues, NBA being a huge example of this, and now wrestlers are taking part in asking for release.
A contract should matter, shouldn't it ? If you've signed on the dotted line for x amount of years, you should commit to it. If you don't want x years, sign for less years. It's the gamble and the nature of it. It's not simple as that, but just want to start a discussion
Contracts all boil down to, "If I do this, you do this." For wrestling, we always just assume what's in the contract without ever actually seeing it. However, for purposes of this conversation, assuming it's as simple as "If I show up to wrestle, you pay me X," if you show up and demand more than that amount because you've outperformed the contract, it's a dick move and you should be called out for it. Likewise, if you're expected to take a pay cut because you're not at the level the company expected, that should be called out as well.
But if it's a matter of "I'm not happy here, I don't want to work here, let me out" or "We can no longer justify paying you this, you're released" I'm more inclined to side with the worker. There should be a way to come to an agreement for a release, but it shouldn't be unilateral. If forcing that release means you stay home without pay or you're left off the card and get paid to sit on your couch, so be it. You use whatever leverage you have.
And if the other side doesn't like it? Go file a lawsuit.
This is a really broad topic. No two contract discussions are alike, in any sport/industry. Even in WWE, we've seen Toni Storm walk out and get her immediate release, and we've seen Mustafa Ali/Luke Harper get held onto. A contract should matter, yes, but if you have unhappy talent who you are clearly either, a, misusing, or, b, have no interest in using, I think it's wrong of the company not to grant them their release.
Soccer is a good example of it given how player transfers work. Lots of players get sold to other clubs for raising a fuss, others just get buried in the reserves until they run their contracts out (Pogba to a lesser extent than what I outlined, but he certainly was never gonna re-sign at United and didn't give a fuck by the end). And in soccer, as it usually turns out, the classiest organizations usually are the ones that avoid the drama that Barcelona/United/other shitshow teams have.
Basically, what I'm saying is that the contract's terms need to be respected, but at the same time a contract should not be something that allows your employer free reign over your livelihood.
Contracts should also provide ways to terminate them early. In my job I’ve had the opportunity to at least review multiple contracts and they usually provide provisions for either side to terminate them early, given a certain amount of written notice, and there are provisions for how finances are handled, depending on which side terminates.
IMO, a contract that only provides a means for one party to terminate it early, but not the other, isn’t exactly fair. But at the same time you should also know what you’re signing.
Adam Coke? Pop.
Who came up with the name “New World Order”? I know Bischoff came up with the concept, but did he create the name/branding of it too?
This is speculative but it may actually have been Zbyszko of all people. He dropped the name on the go-home Nitro before Bash at the Beach, and he was the one who suggested Hall debut by coming out of the crowd, so he had a hand in the angle's creation if nothing else.
Jon Moxley no sells too much IMO. Watched the Jericho vs Moxley match tonight and I feel like no one should be able to withstand the Walls of Jericho for that long. And then a Judas Effect (a very strong finisher) AND a shot to the head with a bat?
Just too much no selling Moxley... It was great to see a big wrestler like Jericho tap out though. I'm a bit sick of the Hart/Austin pass out spot.
Floyd must be a nerf bat because I've seen at least two wrestlers get hit in the head with it and kick out of pin attempts right after.
Jon Moxley does not and has never had a problem selling. Him plowing through three finishers and a bat shot were planned spots agreed upon by both men and the promoter beforehand because for whatever reason they wanted to make him convincingly unbeatable in kayfabe ahead of All Out.
I agree that it was all a bit much, but I'll reserve judgment until we see the All Out main event.
I understand what you are saying but I still think he doesn't sell the effects enough.
Yeah that’s a misjudged booking call. Moxley sold everything like it was tearing him apart. I generally agree Moxley is too OP w shit like this. Would rather him fall out of the ring and Jericho unable to capitalize on the Judas effect or something.
I found the match overall engaging though. Too much blood. Could’ve cut the blood entirely.
Hikaru Shida is wrestling Suzu Suzuki, one of best female wrestlers in the world below 25, this weekend in Japan.
Meanwhile, AEW fans have to watch Jade Cargill vs Madison Rayne on TV.
A little eye opener for everyone.
I hope they give Mox/Punk 10-15 minutes for them to just talk. These two are masters of the craft, just give them mics and let them tell the story.
And I can’t believe we’re getting Danielson/Garcia 2 out of 3 falls and The Elite vs La Facción Ingobernable on the same show. We’re spoiled.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I can’t stand Chris Charlton on commentary. Wrestler + Kevin Kelly has been infinitely more enjoyable imo because the roles are much more clear.
Chris has a tendency to over explain things and try and make everything feel epic and he’ll randomly start doing play by play instead of Kevin Kelly.
I'm sure Top Dolla will have a lot of shit to say if he returns and him and Ashante get a nice push in the tag division.
I’d be shocked to hear Top Dolla has learned anything from all this
I'm excited for wwe to see the changes. It's been a solid week of wrestling and some good matches tonight
Whoo thatll be something
I think the next "big new thing" for MITB would be the MITB winner facing the WWE/Universal Champion in a title match (without the contract), losing the match but still challenging after the match to capture the title.
It's hard to set-up the title match and even the loser winning the title after the match, but I think it will be done soon.
Could have been done with Lashley/Theory if Theory wanted the US Championship.
I feel like they've teased this a few times, but it never happened. I seem to remember Corbin, Miz, and maybe Ambrose being in #1 contender matches, but none of them ever won.
I've always wanted the MITB winner to win a #1 contender's match as well as the Rumble. Then go on to Mania to face the champ. Lose. Call for his shot due to winning the #1 contender's match right then. Lose. Then cash in MITB and finally win.
Convoluted as fuck, but I like the thought.
I'd like the MITB holder to also win the Rumble, that could be fun.
Finally caught up on aew, and the amount of blood in that Jericho /Mox match really took me out of it. I don’t know if Jericho bleeding at the end was intentional or not, but the earring spot was just dumb.
Not only did Jericho repeatedly show that the earring was not a closed loop so he just pulled it out instead of ripping the ear, but they repeatedly showed Mox not bleeding! Then we come back from commercial and there’s blood everywhere EXCEPT HIS FREAKING EAR. Plus that was way too much blood for an ear injury.
TK man, control your boy.
**Unpopular Opinions on AEW**
1. Ricky Starks is not a main eventer. Powerhouse Hobbs is the man who is going to be elevated to the next level
2. MJF is overrated on the mic. He is not defeating CM Punk for the AEW World Championship
3. CM Punk should defeat Jon Moxley clean. This is coming from someone who did not want CM Punk as AEW World Champion
4. Jericho Appreciation Society is the best thing on AEW TV.
5. Jade Cargill is not a good talker. There is a reason why they have a manager for her
6. Jay Lethal is one of the best villains in AEW apart from Christian Cage.
7. Orange Cassidy should not be in the main show
8. Sammy Guevara is a future AEW World Champion. His act along with Tay Conti as his wife/manager reminds a bit of Edge/Lita . He would make a great foil for someone like Hangman Page or Darby Allen
9. Tony Khan does not have any long term stories planned out for the roster apart from a chosen few
10. Wardlow will lose steam very soon , unless they start pairing him with the right opponents
I agree with 5, 7, 9 & 10.
Wardlow's booking after MJF left hasn't been good and Tony has the most ADHD booking ever. When he does have a plan he rushes through it all.
I will second the MJF and Jade opinions for sure. Jade just needs to go away for a while in general because she isn't doing anything and shes not impressive in the ring. It'll help her to have some time away. MJF needs a few more years before he should be touching the title. Or maybe he just shouldn't have it with the amount of talent that is already ready for it AEW has.
Some of these are decently provocative bits; 7 and possibly 6 are trying too hard. Would be very funny to see Punk beat Moxley clean with a GTS no muss no fuss given what a transitive burial of Jericho it would be.
Punk should defeat Moxley with 1 GTS only (Punk should kick out of 3 Paradigm Shifts)
>Orange Cassidy should not be in the main show
He has consistently good matches and is over, He should totally be on the Main Show
I may not agree entirely, but I upvote your ZFF stance. Well done.
Only agree with 3, 6 and 7 (kinda).
MJF is fantastic on the microphone and perfectly rated as one of the very best in the business. JAS is a bit hokey. Jade Cargill is not fantastic but I think the way she talks is real and I prefer it to most of the women on AEW.
Jay Lethal is fantastic.
Screaming to the audience you fucking marks , does not make him a great talker. His back and forth with Punk was predictable
He took potshots at his UFC Career
He tooks shots that he never headlined a Wrestlemania
He took shots that he could not defeat Cena and Triple H
You're ignoring the story that stemmed from (and the promos that followed) that back-and-forth.
That segment was entirely designed to show how out-of-depth MJF is. Punk totally cooked him on the mic, MJF's potshots weren't nearly enough, and eventually, in the weeks that followed, Punk even rendered MJF speechless.
From there we got that excellent promo peeling back the MJF character's childhood trauma and really setting the blood feud into motion.
You can say MJF is overrated on the mic, but his ability to tell complex stories in the pro wrestling setting is unmatched by anyone in America right now, and yes, part of that are his promos.
You don't remember the promo correctly because he was yelling that at Tony Khan, not the fans.
And he has had other great promos, such as the promo about him being bullied. In fact, I think every promo he has done has been pretty great and the fact that he has ideas that he sticks to (makes his opponents jump through hoops to fight him) is fantastic.
> Screaming to the audience you fucking marks
He wasn't screaming that to the audience. He was screaming that to TK.
> Orange Cassidy should not be in the main show 8.
You're completely right. He should only be in the main show 1, 2, and 3 ONLY.
Nobody ever gets fully canceled unless they are arrested and charged. Except the Dixie Chicks.
Never forget that Sinead O'Connor was right.
So were the Dixie Chicks.
Honestly people being so convinced AEW wouldn't go to a lesser network or streaming service if Warner lowballs them is ridiculous. WWF left USA for the fucking NASHVILLE NETWORK to get paid in 2001. Like the MLS got 2.5 billion from Apple TV. If Warner are offering 100m for Dynamite and Apple or Paramount offer a 1 billion, you take the billion and figure it out. The point of the bigger platform is to make more money. You don't then turn down the bigger money just to keep the same platform.
Pretty much. When that Brandon Thurston guy was throwing around the 3-5x rate increase possibility as the outside number up top, it was always a streaming service like Paramount+ with its ViacomCBS money enticing AEW off of TV that was the idea there, not Discovery Warner Brothers. If you look at what they paid for 18 episodes of Halo across two TV seasons (est. budget up around $200 million according to the Guardian), $300 million for at least three hours of weekly live content sounds like a bargain.
All the obvious downsides of achieving audience growth on a streaming service with no TV deal apply...but might not for too much longer, with cord-cutting.
I wouldn't even call it much of a downside. The demo is on steaming. Sure there is cross over, some young people have cable and some older people are cord cutters, but the vast majority of each group is aligned in that direction.
Are there any promotions that operate in the DC or Northern VA area? Coulda sworn there was a DC promotion, I know MCW is theoretically close but they usually run shows two hours away from me.
There used to be several small ones in the DC area, but I think most of them went inactive during covid. Your best bet would probably be to keep an eye on the socials of wrestlers from the area like Trish Adora and Jordan Blade to see if they're booked for anything local and go from there.
[Also check out Phil Stamper's weekly list of indie events if you don't already.](https://twitter.com/TrustInPhil/status/1557397935335170048?t=xS6bn3Ekeqj7v-73a8HBkQ&s=19)
> Also check out Phil Stamper's weekly list of indie events if you don't already
Holy shit this is awesome. Does he do this every week?
Yeah! I only found out that he does it a few months ago from a random comment on this sub and was like how the fuck haven't I seen this before??
[Luchadb/LuchaRobot is also a great resource.](http://www.luchadb.com/events/thisweek.php) The vast majority of shows are obviously in Mexico, but there's always some happening in TX as well as the GALLI events in Illinois.
I live in the area and I was thinking about asking this same question. All the cool shit I see announced on this sub is either on the west coast or too far to the north or south of me. The DMV feels like a dead spot for cool indie wrestling
Yeah which is weird since MCW always looks so promising and they’re theoretically right next door, wish they’d try running DC or even PG County.
F1ght Club Pro Wrestling was announced as a DC promotion, but I can't tell if they're still active. There's also one in Richmond, VA, but that's probably at least 2 hours for you as well.
I’m honestly surprised CM Punks return on Wednesday didn’t get more of a reaction online. Obviously this sub loved it and I saw some stuff on twitter about it, but overall not seeing as much about it. According to google trends more people were interested in dexter lumis’ return on Monday then punk’s return which I couldn’t believe
i think it's because it wasn't too long and also he's still the champion so there's a piece of drama lacking. i firmly believe he should have been stripped. the interim thing is silly.
I was watching live and for some reason it also didn't pop off the way returns usually do. Hard to pinpoint exactly why
It's had 1.7 million views on YouTube in a day. It's been a pretty huge deal.
He wasn’t really gone that long.
It’s probably an unpopular opinion but I’m glad Kris didn’t win the belt yet. Imagine if she had gotten injured during her reign.
On the other hand, I think Toni beats Rosa at All Out.
Rap Sh!t and PLL: Original Sin are carrying HBOMax for me right now. Hope they don’t get canceled.
I want to believe HBO loves Issa Rae too much to cancel Rap Sh!t
I mean, it’s obviously gonna be Kenny that comes out with the bucks to fight LFI on Wednesday, right?
But… what if it’s MJF?
I'm not 100% sure it'll be kenny. The main reason I'm thinking it's not Kenny is that, if he's good to go, I'd expect them using him for singles action. Dude is the ace.
So, unless they have them losing in the first round (setting up him and Osprey down the line) or in the final for storyline reasons OR they just don't want Kenny in the title picture right now (which would be fair enough, I guess) and would rather he helped cement the new title... I dunno, I'm probably overthinking it
Miu Watanabe prayer circle tonight.
As sad as it sounds tournament season in puro has been the best thing for me (well outside doing my work) for past few years and I can't wait to sit down this Sunday to catch up on the GP, N1 and continue/finish the G1/Tokyo Princess Cup.
This year's G1 has really been pulling its weight in the mental health department for me lmao
[Ali casually pulling out a top-rope Canadian Destroyer on Main Event is insane. Both him and T-Bar need to get a bigger push soon.](https://twitter.com/AliWWE/status/1557787300536487942)
Main event new black and gold?
I am perhaps the only person excited for Top Dolla and Ashante being back. Go Terps!
(also, the Maryland football to WWE pipeline is wild; Droz and Mojo Rawley also came up through College Park. For a historically bleh program we're at least a decent feeder to the WWE)
Honest question: if Punk's debut Dynamite did 1.3m, isn't it pretty obvious that Dynamite's viewership ceiling about that? Like I don't think there's any magical "good booking" that's gonna pop a bigger number than Punk returning after 7 years.
Someone else said this a while back, so I can't take credit for it, but I think AEW's (Dynamite) audience range has found stabilization between 800K-1.2M. If they do more, that's a big deal, if they do less, then that's a cause for concern, or a show with a real shit timeslot.
My only question to that ceiling is, is AEW still new/young enough so that there's more potential for gaining new viewership so to speak. Like the 1.3m was for those that were aware of AEW or were big CM Punk fans. But if AEW gets bigger, is there potential for more?
But it's certainly an upper echelon for where they're at currently.
It's not impossible but the problem is when people make it seem like "the rating could be 3 million if Tony just booked better!" when there's no real historical correlation between "good booking" and ratings. Ratings go up through star power whether it be signings or celebrities. The point is then retaining that audience. But It's not "if you book it they will come", that's never been how wrestling works and it never will. Even the first few months after the NWO the ratings and buyrates didn't actually go up. It went up because of the Kevin Greene stuff, Rodman stuff and the Leno stuff. USA Network were gonna cancel RAW in 97 before they got Tyson in 98. It's NEVER just a booking thing.
Excellent points. A sad statement for wrestling but seems to line up pretty well with life overall.
It seemed to calm down but all those post trying to gauge if people in this sub will stop watching AEW were pretty interesting and amusing. It was almost like a contingent of WWE fans were asking " are you guys done with your lil AEW phase yet , u can come home now " .
The brand allegiances have always been weird to me, I watch both now and like both for different reasons…same way I did during the Monday Night wars. I also drink Pepsi and Coke and sometimes even a Faygo.
This. I don't watch WWE, but it's for reasons entirely unrelated to AEW, and even if I did pick up WWE again, I wouldn't drop AEW.
Coke in bottles. Pepsi from cans. It’s the only way.
This is an accurate take.
Also, Cherry Coke but not Cherry Pepsi
Stacked weekend for [CyberFight shows](https://twitter.com/misterhakusan/status/1557476393159897088):
* Semis and Finals of the Princess Cup
* GanPro show with Imanari's title defense against Irie
* DDT show with Akito vs. Janela in the One Light Tube deathmatch
also the N1
They're pumping out an insane amount of good stuff this weekend!
Akito's single lighttube matches are one of my favorite gimmicks, definitely looking forward to seeing how Joey handles that.
I'm curious what FTR's segment was going to be on this week's Dynamite. They advertised their return to Dynamite, and their return to Dynamite was to help Wardlow, but Wardlow only needed help because Jay Lethal and friends came out to talk shit about him, so what do they do if Jay Lethal never comes out?
They were originally part of OC’s patty-cake routine.
I haven't got watching the G1 this year. How would people say the new 4-block system has worked? It seemed like it would make things more predictable, but maybe would be worth it for allowing wrestlers to preserve themselves a bit better.
I've really loved it, honestly. It limits the amount of 'big' matches that you'll have, unfortunately, but the talent are probably healthier and the stories throughout the tournament have been great.
It's a shame AEW had their injury crisis when they did, I think the only thing that would've made this one better is replacing some of the lackluster names with one or two more overseas talent.
Kind of limits the available matchups and overall makes the tournament a little duller. We'll see how the semi-final matches end up though and if those can make up for it.
Is Goldberg wholly responsible for Bret's retirement? Or was it more of a straw that broke the camels back situation?
I've watched the kick many times and it was bad but I feel like I've seen many hits/bumps in pro wrestling that were just as bad if not worse. Could it have been all down to that kick? If he hasn't sustained that specific injury would he have been able to wrestle another decade?
Goldberg fucked him up, but WCW as a collective is who's responsible for ending his career. The fact that he continued working in the weeks and months that followed was a death sentence.
Not that I’m taking blame away from Goldberg, he did kick Bret straight in the head. But I think the biggest thing is Bret going out to wrestle the next week too and I think that’s when his concussion got really bad. Wcw should not have sent him out there after he got his bell rung the first time.
-I’m still sad Anna left the Dark Order man. It’s been weeks and I’m still a sad man.
-I love that FTR and Wardlow are still tight
-Dragon Lee finally in the Trios Tournament got me hyped. A shame they might lose the first round but I hope he makes more appearances
-Bob’s Burgers is mad fun man. I missed out on so much.
-Triple H, please bring back Tommaso. Ciampa’s fine but having the Tommaso part back would be ideal.
-Speaking of Ciampa, Gargano Escape nod got me emotional, I can’t wait to see where Johnny might show up.
Bob's Burgers is fantastic
ilja dragunov is only 28? That's crazy lol
Pretty amped for Nak and Gunther tonight.
I think at Clash we get a real Hoss fight with Gunther vs Sheamus
I am optimistic they give this the amount of time it deserves. Gunther needs to have his first real banger on the main roster tonight.
Gunther vs Sheamus will be incredible. They might just kill each other
Book it HHH!!!
True. Also, despite Triple Threat Matches being so over used lately, can you imagine a Triple Threat between Gunther, Sheamus and Drew?
My chest came out in welts just thinking about it
So since HHH came back into creative, obviously it's lead to people talking about changing NXT back to what it was. And whenever I talk about the subject, I always make the point that NXT doesn't need to go back to what it was.
NXT Black & Gold was great for a lot of years. But what NXT was was essentially a Super Indy with WWE production. That was the appeal of it. So HHH would stock pile this talent from the Indys & International scene, in part to take talent away. And he essentially turned the developmental brand into, again, a Super Indy. And this ideology obviously clashed with what the Vince wanted to do with the Main Roster. So while we got a great show and I wouldn't have changed it for anything, looking back, yeah, it didn't make a lot of sense to take a lot of veteran talent to essentially boost up the developmental brand and a brand that was clearly different from what the main roster happened.
So skip ahead to 2022 and people ask "should NXT go back to what it used to be?", I say no. Because now, Triple H has the keys to the entire kingdom. He doesn't need make the developmental brand the "edgy alternative". He can make the main roster that, or whatever he wants it to be. Now he's not going to sign guys like Finn Balor or Nakamura and keep them on the smaller brand for 2-3 years just to prop that brand up. Now they can go where they should be right at the beginning and that's on the main roster. Like if HHH went after a guy like Jay White, who I see him going hard after, he's not putting him on NXT for 1-2 years, he's going right to the main roster.
I guess what I'm saying is that at the end of the day, I loved Black & Gold NXT, but you could question it's existence. But now with HHH running the main roster and AEW existing, it feels like things are right now. And as for NXT, the problems with that show are more the direction of the show then the talent they use. Meaning how much they put on "SEX", even if they've downplayed that recently. But NXT going forward, from a talent standpoint, should be doing what it's doing already. Using trained athletes (like Bron & Stratton) along with younger Indy names (like Melo & Roxxane).
NXT can't go back to what it was anyway. The indie scene isn't really the same, Now that you have two major companies in the US again there is not a whole lot of indie stars waiting to be signed, The moment anyone has a shred of hype they will be signed to one of the two. Basically we aren't going to get 15 year veteran "rookies" to fill out developmental.
I'd love if one of WWE's three shows was a more extreme and experimental templated show.
Hello, where's this week's WON rating? 'Cause I've been waiting every Friday night here in 🇮🇩.

Recently I've been listening to a lot of live albums which makes me think that I think there would be a market for something like that for Pro Wrestling. Like imagine a cut of Wrestlemania with no commentary, POV's from like the front row or the stage during entrances, some camera changes but minimal camera cuts during the action, and really good Dolby Atmos sound.
I think heyman used to buy fancams for ecw for cheap and then resell them lol
I used to play all the wrestling games with commentary off and music playing in the background. I'd *love* to be able to turn off commentary for matches, regardless which company.
Well now I really wanna see Hate5six film a wrestling show.
Imma gonna DM him and ask him to do it hahahaha.
"MORE KICK BOXING, NO FUCKEN SURVIVOOORRRS"
Maybe something like this [house show between Shawn Micheals and Mankind?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjGWTzdAjOI&t=687s) No commentary, all shot from one camera, it's a very unique experience.
Yeah, something like that. I think with modern sound engineering and the atmosphere of a big stadium show it would be very cool.
Didn't they try something like this early on into the life of the Network?
[Drew hinting at using Broken Dreams for Clash 👀](https://twitter.com/DMcIntyreWWE/status/1558062473999269889?s=20&t=3LYKWDoBzDYwCJhTleC2UQ)
**Does Bryan Danielson vs Zach Sabre Jr happen in Japan at Wrestle Kingdom.**
Maybe Sabre Jr costs Bryan an important match which leads to Bryan flying to Japan to challenge Sabre Jr for a match at Wrestle Kingdom at the Tokyo Dome
I think interim titles are a much better way of dealing with injury than just stripping it and having a tournament or whatever. I do hope they don't have the winner carry around two belts like they did with the TNT title though... that was dumb
I loved that they did interim champ. If a champ is out for less that like 4 months, I think it’s the right idea.
Megan Thee Stallions first track on her new album is titled "NDA" clearly a Vince diss lol.
Who will be dexters first murder victim
Maybe Austin Theory, like one time on NXT where he abducted him lol.
Google translate suggests Wendy.
Really curious to see how TK would book Mox/Punk. The easy way would be to have Punk winning the main event and they carry on with whatever plans they had for Punk before the injury.
Personally, I think Mox should win the match at All Out, and then Punk wins the rematch. Let Mox be the first two time champion for carrying the promotion in the champion’s absence. Plus, Mox has been booked super strong and Punk just came back from injury. It won’t hurt Punk at all to lose the first match and it would set up a great come back story, especially if Mox is turning heel.
There is no reason to turn Mox heel at this point, his character motivated by being the best wrestler already creates the best dynamics with anyone u put him in the ring with
The comeback story from injury is already being worked by Danielson
> especially if Mox is turning heel.
Punk wins clean
I'm so tired of Moxley's superman booking and constant blading. Punk SHOULD win here.
I've been harping on BCC being too dominant for a while. But Mox literally hasn't lost a singles match in AEW in over a year. Danielson finally lost one. Yuta (who, remember, is "learning" from the others) went undefeated immediately on joining up with them, after losing so much before that.
Obviously it's a smidge early for Claudio to lose (though he could lose a singles non-title match and be just fine). But Mox? He *should* lose. At All Out.
And I want him as champion, so I'm conflicted. I'm just really sick of seeing him win all the time. There's never much suspense to his matches because the question isn't if he'll win. It's when. And how.
Danielson has been losing way too much. Idk why they've got Bryan fucking Danielson play the little brother role in BBC. He's way too selfless for his own good.
They should really switch him and Moxley's places as far as booking is concerned. The way they've booked the best wrestler on the planet in baffling.
I agree. It's almost getting to the point where he's AEW's equivalent to Roman Reigns.
Moxley does have that "hand picked by the company owner to be the champion" feel to him. A real Ron Reignsley.
Legit saw someone make a post here how he shouldn't lose clean yet again.
