Thanks so much! :D and yeah, the metal virus is probably my favorite arc just for how it handles Sonic's reaction to being infected and slowly losing the ability to just run it off and pretend like he has it under control. As much as I like the cocky personality, it's interesting to see how he approaches the darker stuff sometimes.
I think like Spider-Man, Sonic makes jokes and acts cocky as a bit of a coping mechanism but also as a battle strategy because it annoys Eggman so much
Spider-Man makes jokes to hide the fact that he's terrified, the fact that it can throw off the people he's fighting becomes a bonus, people should be worried when he isn't making jokes. I suppose the same could be applied to Sonic as well, if Sonic's visibly angry, it's usually for a good reason
Frontiers kinda dipped into that territory as well with the Cyberspace corruption thing. Though admittedly it's kinda brushed aside for the most part (unfortunately), seeing his neutral stance getting more strained with each island and hearing those idle lines expanding on him deteriorating both physically and mentally paints just enough of a picture to be interesting, especially since the actual games never went there before.
No especially when he's struggling in pain but sees that Tails is watching and strengthens his resolve and plays it off with a joke. Literally such a good character moment
Metal Virus was great because of the dynamic with Sonic having to wrestle with whether or not he made the right choice with Tinker. Everyone is giving him shit, and he's seeing the consequences in front of him. He has to work through that and come to terms with his own morality and decisions, and that was extremely refreshing imo.
It's a level of character conflict and dynamic I feel hasn't quite been re-achieved yet in following arcs. I still love IDW overall, but nothing is perfect.

Yes, he is supposed to be a teenager. The general agreed-upon age is 15, but Frontiers has made us all confused. I'm 99% sure he's still meant to be a teenager in Frontiers, though.
The ages for most of the cast are (or were) as follows: Sonic is 15, Tails is 8, Knuckles is 16, Amy is 12, Shadow is an awkward one but he’s basically 15 physically but is over 50 years old chronologically, Rouge is 18, Cream is 6,
Vanilla is 26, Big is 18, Vector is 20, Espio is 16 Charmy is 6 years old, Blaze is 14, Silver is also 14, and then Dr.Eggman is somewhere in his 50’s.
To be honest, we dont know that for sure, >!Kit made an attempt at killing everybody!< >!by destroying entire underground complex and burrying everybody inside but we havent seen him leave so its uncertain if they survived. Kit wasnt exacly completely sane atm.!<
