Went to Granada from US, highly recommend it. It was beautiful. Also, go to Seville if you're there. Skip the Barcelona and Madrid trips, I wish we never spent days there.
100% this. The holidays we took as a family weren't always appreciated as a kid, but there's so much benefit to being exposed to different places and cultures. I used to absolutely hate my initial stays in various carab countries, but looking back as a family it's all.good memories and nostalgia. I feel like stuff like that is great for family bonding.
Build a relationship with my kids. I love my parents but we don't talk like that or have an emotionally close relationship growing up. Also vacations and getting them into sports.
Same here. I grew up thinking, saying I love you was something embarrassing an not something you say to your family. I tell my kids I love them multiple times a day an my five year old daughter tells me she loves me at least 10 times a day if not more.
Man. I'm definitely not verbally expressive, and much more inclined to show through action. But watching my 5 year old niece just randomly tell her parents "I love you" all day and throwing strays at me is so damn sweet. First time she said it to me, legit stopped me dead in my tracks and made me mutter it back at her a little flustered. Like that's my sibling, I've known them all my life and I've never told them I loved them. I can't say my parents were difficult to talk to, but just that slightest difference of being comfortable to say it out loud will only do everyone good in the long run.
That sounds awesome! I am my parents retirement plan 😭 they made me think of saving up for the future. r/financialindependence is a helpful subreddit i found.
Lol my mom used to actually say that to us since grade school 😭 I even wrote about kids being retirement plans in one of my papers in highschool. Looking back at that is soo funny, gotta love Somali parents 😭
Not Somali here but one of my ultimate dreams is to actually visit Somalia and Mogadishu. The Tiktoks and posts on various social media really show how amazing of a hidden gem Somalia truly is.
Is it something you want to do soon? I had plans to join a swimming class but covid happened and classes were cancelled. For learning how to bike you just gotta throw yourself into it. I learned it when I was younger and broken bones healed faster alx😆 it’s definitely something you can teach yourself.
Well, I am starting uni now so probably when i am done with uni, I'll get swimming lessons and I have a bike and a huge park so might try over the summer holidays.
Home ownership. I want to buy a few acres in Canada and have a small homestead/farm inshallah. I want to be able to grow my own organic produce and have a few chickens. With climate change and the environment continuing to collapse I believe food resources and agriculture are required for sustainability in the next few decades. Also owning land/property is a form of generational wealth and something you can pass down. Now I just need to find a spouse who has similar goals and doesn’t mind commuting to the city for work. One of my fave professors from Uni lives on a farm outside the city and inspired me.
Have more emotional closeness where we all can share our feelings. Prepare all of them to be independent individuals by teaching them house chores, financial responsibility, driving etc. Also swimming and biking and having family time activities like going to weekend picnics etc.
Teach them financial literacy. My parents, like most other Somali parents I know would give the shirt off their back to their children and rarely spend money on themselves. That said, all I've ever watched my parents do is save money in fiat.
Don’t have much time for it now, but I’d go on more nature-filled vacations like going to the auroras in finland or having a picnic above clouds in Abha, or even going on nice cabin trips every few weeks.. & of coarse umrah every yr. soulful & meaningful trips 🤩
Buy a goddamn house. My parents been renting for 30 years and since it’s not government, we’ve had to move every couple of years. The longest I lived in one house is 5 years. Screw that instability.
Yearly family vacation for the whole family.
Do you have countries you want to visit?
Fiji, Spain( Granada), Tanzania, Bolivia

Okay thanks for letting me know I'm more interested in the old Islamic architecture there anyways.
Seville has gorgeous masjids, hence the recommendation. You'll love Alhambra either way.
Oh ok thanks for let me know insha'allah soon I will check it out
Malaga is also a great spot in spain

That’s so cute mashallah. We love to see it!

inshallah! 🤞🏽 its gonna be the push Somalia needs to hopefully get involved in athletics professionally a lot more
View all Somalis as equal and value peace and prosperity for my country
Somalis already view each other as equal they are just more inclined towards their clan which is a really big family basically
That’s something we all want to see. Do you think learning about qabil hinders that goal or can equality and qabil coexist?
I dont know how to ride a bike or swim, so I'll be teaching my kids that (and myself lol) and martial arts for self defence etc

I don't know how old you are but you can still learn it. I learnt how to ride a bike in college.
i am 19 lol
You have a lot of time to learn anything you want, buddy.
i am 19 lol
How don’t you know how to ride a bike or swim, plus that’s not something special to the west at all

Retiring at 40 something is more realistic if u know how to make ur money work for you

I will marry a Gabooye girl in deviance of my family and clan.
it's not a big deal for guy to marry a gabooye girl it's different story if a girl marries a gabooye guy tho but good on you.
What is a Gabooye girl?
I did some research. It’s a marginalized qabil.
Are you Ogaden btw
What make you think that?
Try and become president of somalia one day if possible. Its time we reach our potential and prosper again inshallah
Will teach my kids how to survive and thrive
Getting a Masters and studentship away from my low ranking & weak bachelor's college
Teach my son how to hoop. Yearly vacations for the family. Love my parents but there are some things I wish they did.
