INDIEGUY_PMPT

Great job! But I would advise stopping the sub4sub. I was trying to find your channel so i went on your profile and noticed that you had commented on the sub4sub subreddit. **DON'T DO IT!** It's probably the reason why so many people were unsubbing. When you do sub4sub some people won't watch your videos and many others will just unsub a couple of days later. There is always the possibility that some will stick around but imo it's not worth it at all. You're just better off advertising your channel normally on subs like this one and the ones related to your niche. Sorry if I sounded like a douchebag but I'm only trying to help.

MadeleineMTra

I agree with you. Sub4sub don't really stick!

ideidn2

Yes i agree (like I mention above) I'm veering off that now and want to focus on: 1- actual advertising 2- organic (slow) growth 3- Focusing on my niche 4- improving my video quality and topic

ideidn2

Hi Indieguy and Madeleine MTra Thanks for the advise, really! I didn't take it the wrong way. I totally agree. At first I didn't know what to do or where to go, so I reverted to that. But it's true. They don't really watch it and a lot were just there to pretty much unsub and scam you. For me I'm really not trying to be rich off of this. I'm just trying to have fun and show people what I see. What's your YouTube channel? I would love to check it out and see what you're doing right.

INDIEGUY_PMPT

Don't worry, starting a youtube channel is hard and most people don't know what to do. I already knew that sub4sub was bad from the start, but that's only because my best friend used to do it like 5-6 years ago and got a ton of subs while making bad videos (the type a 13 year old without a laptop would do). Those vids would only get like 10-20 views per video and the same cringy comments from old-school Minecraft channels lol. As for my yt channel, it's somewhere in my reddit profile, you won't have to scroll to far down to reach it since I don't post a lot of things besides my videos. I don't know if seeing my channel will be a very enlightening experience but it's there. Just be warned it is gaming related...

ideidn2

Thanks again. I think gaming channels have a bigger potential than my kind of channel tbh. Too bad I don't really game. As for the cringe worthy comments... WHY is it minecraft videos are so popular? It literally liters reddit and YT... (lol just ranting I guess) I like that you do reviews of games and it's some old games that I've seen before. Even if I'm not interested in the content, I can learn about videography and how people narrate their videos. Really helpful! Thanks

INDIEGUY_PMPT

Tell me about it. It wouldn't be a bad thing if they weren't doing the same goddamn thing and copying the same ideas is this huge game of telephone! (Yeah i feel the same as you lol). But I'm glad I was of service to you! Good luck and have fun on your journey through the youtube jungle!

ideidn2

Thanks again. Good luck with your journey through this jungle too. We may be going different directions but we're still plowing through the same jungle, trying to create paths to walk on :) If you need any videos viewed, do let me know. I'd love to help out even if it's just a little

INDIEGUY_PMPT

If you need any more advise, let me know, I'll try to help the I can!

ideidn2

I will definitely take you up on that. Again, I'm still learning and am trying to take as many criticism, comments, opinions, advice, feedback that I can. You've been really helpful. 誠にありがとうございます!

MadeleineMTra

My YouTube Channel is Madeleine MT. I started making travel Vlog videos, then added good shows and concerts that we really enjoyed to share the experience. My circus video of Cirque du Soleil took off and gave me lots of subscribers, next is comedy, and I noticed some breaking news attracted many viewers too. I love Japan and made some videos while in Japan too. Good luck to you.

ideidn2

Hi Madeleine Thanks for sharing your YT! Haha I see the cover page is from when you were in Japan. OMG I have never gone to Cirque du Soleil! They closed due to COVID so I really regret not going when I had the chance. I really like your videos though! It has a "home" feel to it... in my opinion. Good job! Since I like traveling, I really like your travel Vlogs, especially the Romania one. I've never been there but was in Ukraine not too long ago. I'm going to sub to you because I genuinely like your content :)

MadeleineMTra

Thanks Pradi. So sweet of you. I know ... Cirque du Soleil actually filed for bankcruptcy because of lockdown, so 3500 talented people lost their job, so sad! I will check out your channel. Living in Japan must be so cool.

ideidn2

yes, that's what I heard. I was about to pull the trigger on buying a ticket before covid.... really regretted not seeing them. I wonder if they will re-group or make their own independent cirque du soleil. These people are really amazing people who dedicate their lives to that art. Also, thanks for checking out my channel. Really means a lot. I'm still learning a lot of things so if you have any ideas, inputs, comments, feedback, critiques, etc do let me know! Looking forward to seeing more videos from you :)

MadeleineMTra

A suggestion for you to increase your subscribers count is for you just to ask viewers to remember to subscribe to your channel if they like your video. Sometimes, people just watch and don't think about subscribing if you don't ask. A neat idea for you is to make a video showing how to use the high speed trains in Japan and explaining how it works, what every sign means . That's something a lot of people would be interested in knowing. How to buy an unlimited 7-day pass, where to pick it up, ... I know I wanted to learn about all that before going to Japan. Or, videos about some interesting or beautiful places that you've visited, show what you know about it, how to get there, etc ... that would be a good topic. Make videos about things you know and enjoy that maybe lots of people don't know ... that will attract viewers, subscribers for sure. Educate people and they will subscribe. Good luck to you.

explorethex

Congratulations 😊

ideidn2

Thanks a lot! Really means a lot to me to be able to share this with you all and bounce ideas around

itshercules

Bruh same over here! Im not at 100 yet tho lmao. Congrats. Hard work pays off! 💯✔

ideidn2

Thanks You'll get there. You will. Even if it's fun, it is still hard work! If you want, I can view your YT channel and give you my opinion/comment :)

aldothehero

That’s awesome! It took me about the same time to get 100 subs but that’s the great thing about YouTube you really never know the moment where it could just change for you, when I reached my first 100 subs within 3-5 months I gained another 100 in just a month It’s like a snowball effect once you’re going, you never know the moment where it’ll just subvert your expectations, keep going!

ideidn2

Wow, awesome to hear you started to get more and more and more subs after this. It definitely helps in keeping my head up. It's nice to gain subscribers, but it's also nice to just have conversations with your listeners and audience, you know? I'm curious to hear what your channel is about because it seems you have a solid following and you have that consistency and quality that people want to see

aldothehero

Yea man I would say a community is far more important than just seeing that subscriber count grow It’s better to have 50 genuine supporters than 100 dead subs. Keep building that connection with your audience it really shows you care and helps the community feel more apart of something. In all honesty when it comes to growing it’s literally just consistency and puting out the content you want to make and what people want to see. Put in the time, don’t shy away from your creativity, and keep making You truly never know the moment when your channel can blow up. From the results I’ve seen as long as your enjoying what you make and stay consistent there are going to be people who find you and are gonna stick with you. Obviously it can be hard knowing how many channels exist on YouTube but you play the game smart and your community will find you. Just gotta keep going and learn as you go

ideidn2

That's very true. You're right it takes consistent work (emphasis on work) But it's fun and rewarding to engage with people and see yourself improve (in video editing, narrating, story telling etc) I wasn't so focused on the community aspect, but now am trying to shift my mindset toward that. It's been better. You all are really helpful and kind. I'm glad I posted here. I'll try to be supportive to other members as well, so I'm not just "taking" but also "giving" Let me watch your YT channel. Maybe I can learn a few things about how you got to where you are

aldothehero

When I started my channel I intended on making animated content but in the moment I didn’t know how to edit or where to start so I just grabbed my camera and made random videos and skits to learn how to edit and just have fun then after a bit I saw people make reactions to movie trailers and anime episodes and I wanted to try it myself, so I did. I reacted to marvels endgame trailer and it did really well and I reacted to my hero academia and it did well for me too in a few weeks I went from only having 30 subs for months to nearly 200 and people leaving comments enjoying what I did and saying my hype gave them hype but what happened was while I was making those reaction videos I always intended on wanting to make story driven content but with this outburst of growth it had me thinking I was building a community that I would switch on later on with the content I was making so I had to be truthful with myself in the sense of committing to the content I really wanted to make which was more animated and story driven, I did the reactions just to try and it was fun but I never intended on my channel to become a reaction channel and without realizing it, that was the image I was giving to my subscribers so I made an update video once the my hero season ended and made it clear that I would be an animated channel. So after that I spent months just figuring out animation digitally and how I wanted to do it and I started posting my stuff again. I went from 180 subs to now having 250 in the last 3 uploads I made which were recent and I can’t wait to keep going. If I had to give you a gist of what my channel is I’d say “me turning my life into a cartoon” lol any story or idea or skit I have in mind I make it into this animated video hybrid I’ve been doing and it’s where I want to expand and grow. So always aim to do what you love and what you want. Keep in mind what your dream is and stick to it. It’s not about the numbers or the fame or money. Do what you love first, follow your passion and you’ll be set on a right trajectory

ideidn2

I wish I can pin this reply to the top. It's just so real and full of truth. It's a good example of you having multiple paths to choose and you ultimately choosing your true passion and interest instead of selling out. and it's at the cost of learning how to animate and turning your ideas into reality. That's so awesome. I don't know how to animate, edit, shoot, alter camera settings... but I had the vision of sharing content to help people learn about studying and living abroad. It's given me the chance to speak to people I would otherwise not speak to. So overall, even without the subscribers it's worth it. I'm still learning all this editing and shooting stuff, so watching a channel like yours is really eye opening for me. I'm not subscribing to you just to sub, but I really think your channel can bring value to me. I'm sure other people also feel the same way. One question, these videos must take a lot of time to create and edit, no?

aldothehero

Yea that’s what it’s all about, also as for the videos you got it, they do take a while make, we’ll longer than just shooting with a camera, but it’s because of the drawing aspect of it

ideidn2

but I bet 2-3 years down the line your drawing and animation skill will be so much better... and you'll be glad you actually out in the time and effort into each and every day. Its kind of like building a habit and having a job (same with diet and exercise) I'll try to touch into some animation one of these days... right now I only have iMovie and I can't really do much so it sucks. Am trying to find something more robust right now

aldothehero

Yea man one step at a time is all it takes

TastyOmelet

Congrats on 100 subs! I've been watching your videos for a while. They're all pretty good. You should make another one about that handsome guy with the Pokemon channel, his interview was by far the best!! Not biased at all, ofc.

ideidn2

Hi TastyOmelet Thanks for the kind words stranger ;) I would love to talk to that handsome guy again.... I feel like he has a lot to share, especially because he has lived in different parts of Japan. IF ONLY I know where to find him... He is probably out somewhere trying to catch them all

ideidn2

Thanks a lot! Nice Kitchen video btw!

L3monish

Congrats for the 100 subs! Slowly but surely. You'll get there! P/s: Probably those who have unsubbed only want you subbed to them. I'd say stay away from those people. What use of subscribers if they're not interested in your contents at all in the first place 😅

ideidn2

Thanks and I totally agree I really want to get away from that and just focus on people who actually care and engage, even if it means growing slower. wishing you all the best too :)

Horns_Rules

Congrats! And hey, that time is by no means long haha you should be proud! I've been under 100 since 2018. Different channels, different paths. Keep going!

ideidn2

Oh wow interesting. It's hard enough to keep 1 channel going. How many channels do you have? and what kind of paths are you taking? Would love to hear your story

Horns_Rules

Just one channel. We do sketch comedy, and it's usually not short and sweet either. It's unfortunate because it's not the kind of content that gets easy views/subs, unlike travel stuff or gaming stuff. It is what it is, I've made my bed and gotta lay in it haha. I'd rather keep making what I like, as opposed to trying to hop on trends. However, i don't think there's anything wrong with that either. It's a smart business decision. Anyway, one day we'll get over 100! lol

ideidn2

Full respect for that. I also agree with what you said. With that said, you'll also notice my channel does not have those click-bait travel videos. It's mostly long-form interviews and conversations (like a podcast) so i'm also not getting that "gamer level" views. But I can't imagine myself doing that. Oh well! haha

ideidn2

Thanks. It is hard but it was fun. I had a lot of support from friends and family, who were willing to help me shoot and be in my videos. I'm guessing the next 100 is also hard but I'm going to slow down and have fun with it :)

JerkDeimus

Really hard, I make gaming videos, it's been years now. I'm still trying to get to the 100 mark. I just checked your channel and it's pretty neat keep it up I think a lot of things Japan-related always have huge potential.

ideidn2

Thanks a lot. tbh I wasn't sure if it has a big potential or not... but it's my life. tbh I think gaming has more potential. I see gaming videos get insane amount of views in a matter of minutes, but then again I'm not a gamer so i don't really know. What's your channel about? I'd love to check it out :)

JerkDeimus

Gaming also has potential but the platforms are incredibly flooded with gaming content, it's very very hard for people to discover me, if not impossible without me having to spend some money on advertising. I don't think the Japan content is that overflowing, there is certainly much room for new content.

ideidn2

Haha I guess that's how I feel about content in Japan. There are surprisingly a lot of local channels. But yes I do agree, there are a lot of gaming channels. paying for advertising sucks in my opinion (maybe because I'm just broke lol) But if that's what you are into and what you do on a day to day basis, I don't see anything wrong with persevering. I see other gaming channels here that do explode. hope that will happen to you! If you want any videos viewed or liked, let me know, I'd be happy to help out even in a small way :)

minhsao

Great Job keep up the great work and content ... it look me forever to get past 100 subs. And this year already I’ve gained 40 new subs!!! It is a slow grind but enjoy the process!!! Btw I subscribed ;) !!!

ideidn2

Hey, 40subs is a lot... it's REALLY alot! Full respect on living that slow grind life. It makes you a better person and a better YTber I think :)

ctyhuntr

Look, you have great contents and you are in a place that can generate great content with ease.. look at the YouTube channel only in Japan. But ultimately, you have to ask yourself why are you posting videos on YouTube. Is it for the money or fame? If so you will need to be really focus and create content that the audience either learned something or are laughing after they watch the video. Good luck and don’t let sub count get you down... once your content is there the subs will come!! Good luck!!!

ideidn2

Thanks for the rundown. To be honest I'm not really in for the Fame. I got into this to help people who are interested in studying or moving here. I'm actually going to present my channel to my University :) With that said, I don't think I want to "focus" my content on just getting revenue. I would love to make people laugh, but more than that, I'd love to create content that make people "learn" and think: "I want to move here" Have you been to Japan? Thanks again btw!

SophiaLauren2018

Congratulations, welcome to the 100 club.

ideidn2

Haha. thanks. I still don't feel like a 100er I'd love to hear comments from people like you who have had success in growing their channels :) Any specific thing you did right?

SophiaLauren2018

Tried sub2sub for a day, gained 14 but lost 16 overnight. Never again. Just be confident and somewhat consistent, reply to as many comments as you can, build a solid core of subscribers. Most of all have fun.

ideidn2

Thanks a lot and I totally agree. I just want to have fun and won't want to make the sub4sub a job or obligation. I'm not confident yet but I do try to be consistent. The comment replying is the best part to be honest. I get to hear comments and ideas from other people... and if they have a YT channel I can see and learn from it's double as helpful :) Mind sharing your channel?

SophiaLauren2018

FilCan Explore is our YTC. Watched your first 3 videos in full, I like the concept of your interviews. They are a look into people’s lives we do not always see, but often wonder about. Personally the mix of walking and interviewing the people on your walks interests me a lot. 👍

ideidn2

Oh thanks. I've also watched and subscribed to your channel. Awesome that you have a drone. I also want to use a drone!! (will try to get it once I have some savings) Regarding the interviews, if you have any specific topic that I don't cover, do let me know :) I'd be happy to include it in the upcoming ones (once covid is over)

SlayerBeasT_

Congratulations ....i know how hard it is to gain first 100 sub i am currently at 70 🙂🙃

ideidn2

Hey 70subscribers is a lot. Good job on making it that far. What's your goal with the channel? Is it to monetize? is it a fulltime job? Is it just for fun?

tricera_fit

Have you ever heard the phrase: Build it and they will come? 100 subs takes a village to say the least. But doing things like: watch for watch, sub for sub and so on is what leads to the drastic rise and drop in subscribers leaving. Keep creating authentic content and the subscribers will come.

ideidn2

Good phrase. thanks for the wise words. I'll try to build a more consistent and authentic content and be more engaging with everyone. Building definitely takes work and some investment. And I'm really surprised at how supportive people here are.

Dark_Shiloh

Yeah I'm experiencing what you had experienced, I've gotten close(im at 98) currently and i can never make it to 100 no matter what.

ideidn2

What's your channel? Mind if I watch your videos? I'm still in the learning phase so I would love to see how other people approach video making and editing. You're so close though! Let me know when you get to 100 and we can e-celebrate on Reddit hahaha

nardvillain

congrats on your 100 subscribers. Question: You're not doing sub for sub are you? Sometimes people will subscribe to you and later unsubscribe because they are trying to get as many subs. I wouldn't do that. Travel videos are awesome. Keep doing that. Keep in mind, you have 100 subbies from around the world enjoying your content, so keep at it. Again congrats on the 100 and to the more to come.

ideidn2

Thanks To answer your question, I did sub-for-sub and do agree about the people unsubscribing. I've figured out it's really scammy (no offense to those who are supportive of it) There were people who stuck around and were genuinely interested, but for the most part they all just unsub you after a minute. But thanks for the encouragement. I like traveling so it resonates with me. If you want to visit here or want to know more about traveling and Japan, I'd be happy to strike up a conversation anytime :)

MatthysFAIL

Congrats! :) I've been struggling as well to get my first 100 subs, but made it a few months back. Can be pretty frustrating, but even more rewarding as soon as you reach it!

ideidn2

Thanks a lot! Ya it's a struggle. Another friend of mine got to 400 in no time and I was really inspired and discouraged at the same time. But that's just how it is I guess... So now you're aiming for 1000 subs I'm guessing??

MatthysFAIL

I'm taking it step by step, so 200 is my next goal, but I wouldn't mind 1000 subs either hahaha!

ideidn2

Haha, I feel you there. good luck on the 200. If I can help in any way, let me know. But it seems like you're on the right track :)

MatthysFAIL

Likewise! feedback is of course always appreciated, you can find my channel on Youtube under the same name that I have here if you're interested :)

ideidn2

I found you! Wow you make really cool video covers. And I like your editing. What program do you use to edit and put this all together? I only use iMovie (because it's free) and I'm finding it really limiting. I'm going to sub to you. I put good videos and I can learn from you about narrating and editing! Mine is 201 Ichikawa, in case you want to see "Japan related content" and interviews of expats in Japan.

MatthysFAIL

Thanks you so much! I'll look you up as well. I'm from the netherlands myself, so learning a thing or two about Japan might be interesting! I'm using Adobe premiere pro and I'm trying to learn After Effects, but it's not free. The only reason I can afford it is because I got a student discount haha.

ideidn2

oh nice! My friend (who is American) but lived in Japan just moved to Amsterdam and she is doing some freelance work there. She's been telling me how different the Netherlands is from the US and Japan (apparently in the Netherlands you don't have much of a Gynecologist???) I'm going to visit her once things open up so I'm trying to learn a thing or two too! Man... I wish I can still get student discount. When I was a student 6 years ago I never capitalized on all the discounts your video looks good though. I need to up my videos (even your audio is better than mine)

TheSacredSword

My 40th weekly video is about to go up and I'm at 44 subs. I'd love to be at 100 subs, especially in 3 months. Good job. I write and record weekly 10-minute fantasy short stories. I find it tough to rank for the search terms related to my video.

ideidn2

oh wow, 44 videos! That's a lot Good job on the consistency and dedication. If you don't mind, can you share your channel? I'd love to hear these short stories and maybe we can even talk about it. Regarding the search terms, I'm not an expert on SEO or hashtags... but after watching some of your videos maybe I can have a better picture :)

Traditional-Maize-34

Reallly great to see reallly awesome!!!!! im gonna get there one day myself lol

ideidn2

Oh thanks! I really hope you do get to visit :) If you do, let me know. I can give recommendations. Or if you have questions, I'd be happy to talk about YT or Japan in general!

Traditional-Maize-34

That is very cool im from the states so I dont get get to see any other place especially Japan!! I most likely will have questions in the future, so I might bug you from time to time lol. I'm about to head back to you channel to explore a little more .cheers!!

ideidn2

Thanks a lot. I'm from the States too haha But don't be a stranger and if you have any ideas of what you want to see, let me know. I can always include it in the upcoming video and mention you! Man I miss the States...

Traditional-Maize-34

lol that would be pretty cool, I really would like that, have a great day, and i will be in touch!

FerretGlad2225

I did exactly what you did, and it got me 100 subs as well, last week. Congrats, now that you got 100 people subscribed, maybe it's time to build a community.

ideidn2

you know what, I found out building a community is hard. harder than getting subs or going to "sub4sub" This is definitely the next challenge. Congrats if you have built your community :)

FerretGlad2225

Thank you and wish you all the best

Yeah i agree! And i would absolutely love that. Thank you.☺😍
