People who believe the earth is flat are the modern day counterpart to people who believed the earth was the center of the universe

TheFirstPancake101

I would like to respectfully disagree because we have soooo much more proof of the earth being round now than they did of the earth not being the center of the universe back in the day

First-Fantasy

I'm pretty sure the last piece of the puzzle for heliocentrism was figuring out that the earth rotates. Without that price of information astronomers couldn't figure out what was spinning around what. Could be wrong though.

ShowerThinker1830

You raise a fair point my good sir. But if we show any proof of the earth being round those people are like toddlers and just say “no, that’s wrong.”

staircase_nit

It might make one appreciative of scientific advancement but sad about people. 😏

juklwrochnowy

But that's not how geocentrists reacted back then

Zombisexual1

I’m pretty sure that people who think earth is flat also believe it is the center of the universe as well. Since the stars are fake or a hologram projected by a nightlight or something like that

Isteppedinpoopy

Actually, they are the people who think -they- are the center of the universe.

Delusions are dopamine

Scarrazaar

Look man; the earth is flat, why else all the maps are flat?! It used to be round when globes were knocking about. It transformed due to changes in fashion trends

juklwrochnowy

Fun fact: the reason scientists used to believe earth was the center wasn't because they were biased, they just had proof for this. They calculated sizes of observable stars and they turned out to be larger than the entire solar system proposed by the heliocentric model. However the calculation was done wrong, because people thought that what you see on the night sky is the surface of the star, but in reality it is judt because of light blurring. This is why their calculations showed helliocentric model to be impossible. But they weren't biased or stupid, they just didn't know about something that wasn't discovered in the next hundreds of years

JackN14_same

Surely them trying to figure it out in the first place would seem pretty biased

juklwrochnowy

Why?

JackN14_same

Well they literally have no reason to figure it out in the first place, the only reason you would want to know is so you can feel better about yourself

juklwrochnowy

How does geocentric model make you feel better about yourself?. And as i said before, they DID have undoubtable proof for this.

JackN14_same

People were weird back then, they watched bears get eaten alive by wolves, of course they would want to say their planet is in the middle of the universe

juklwrochnowy

Hoe does that have anything do do with what i was talking about??

JackN14_same

“How does geocentric model make you feel better about yourself?”

juklwrochnowy

But how does this mean that their thinking was biased?

JackN14_same

Do I actually need to explain?
