[Short Review] UDx 7 - Endless Training with Silver (Minstrel)
By - xArceDuce
Fourth pity in a row. Gustave, Roufas, Rei and now Albert... it's as if the game knew of my hoarding ways.
Awesome as always! Though I still dunno if I want to pull for Minstrel. Is he completely outclassed by having Narwhal and eventually Matriarch?
Minstrel vs. Narwhal/Matriarch is rough for Minstrel because of general usage.
Narwhal can be used for the following:
- AGI buff/debuff teams
- AoE heavy fights (AoE heal on death)
- 7BP/7BP or 10BP-reliant teams (Water Festival)
Matriarch can be used in the following:
- Almost every Romancing/Raid team in the game.
Unlike Minstrel, Narwhal and Matriarch has Stat buffs. Defensive stat buffs like END or WIL are pretty damn bad compared to debuffing a boss's STR/AGI/INT. Thus, Guard Up tends to be favored. However, stat buffs are much more preferable when it comes to the offensive. STR/INT/AGI buffs constantly stack, making for higher and higher damage output.
This is why Matriarch shows up in almost every manual team that involves STR, INT or AGI. The ramp-up gets insane the more you stack STR buffs. With it, Matriarch can easily stack her STR buffs every turn due to her 5BP cost with 4BP regen compared to Minstrel struggling with a 8BP cost.
Wow thank you so much for the details breakdown lol I want him, purely for nostalgia reasons and gems aren’t an issue but it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense to put resources into him.
Outside of BI I just don’t foresee a legitimate reason to choose him over the other two or even in addition to them.
Narwhal and Matriarch seemed to make a good sei-oh “holy king” formation as I keep seeing in JP, where enemy attacks always missed
A pleasure as always, boss.
But all big blinking lights this time screech at me "hey save your rolls for the start of next month" and "hey you still have a GLEX potentially in the not so distant future"
Look, I'm just happy the only unit I'm interested in is the welfare. Please, game - be kind to my wallet, let me develop gem equity.
Wish i read this before goin pity for albert. I dont have the sword or death albert>< I don't think I have the gems for jo/mat now><
There are going to be a lot of platinum tickets given out so there is a chance you can get Death Albert.
This Albert has a really strong single target nuke in his third skill which is dual element. On top of that, he can use the (still competitive) Heaven and Earth skill 2 three turns in a row due to having Power Charge II. Of course he gets more useful with Victor's Blade inherited, but he's not that bad standalone.
To be honest, if I didn't pity Zenon on Orlouge banner, I'd be going near or straight to pity for this Albert. At this piont though, I'm completely broke on jewels.
The sword is a story reward, so you'll get it eventually.
I looked for it, but i cant find it anywhere, is it on global yet?

Yes it is. The link you have mentioned, it will be awarded on "Ep 15" VH which means Ch1 Ep 15-2-5 VH. It will also award you with Wave Note (SS Bow).
ah thought so, the phoenix 1. Using it on him atm
Wish it didnt have -5 strength, but the WP/int is worth it\^
Does the later variant of minstrel require this version? What's the likelihood of this minstrel being reprinted?
Since he's an UDx, reprint is going to be much slower then Festival/Award styles. That much is sure.
People tend to inherit the Cleanse/HP heal skill 1 from the New Years 2021 Minstrel to the UDx one for manual fights. Overall, by themselves, both styles are just lacking too many things in general for their kits.
I would generally say Minstrel is a flex pick for most hardcore manual players.
Is Barbara a better buffer compare to minstrel anyway? I guess minstrel bp cost is only 8
After Claudia/Jamil UDx, Barbara becomes a 50% Morale Up buffer with a 20% Attack Enhancement bonus applier. She more or less becomes the best Battle Island buffer in the game thanks to this for Round 2/3 boss-killing. Due to the 13BP and not enough support passives/skills, she's definitely not fit for extensive combat.
Minstrel is able to use his buffs twice (Round 1 or 2, then Round 3), but do be warned that max points requires **6 actions**. If you don't mind 7-8, then Minstrel's 8BP buffs is nice. I've used this for headache rounds in the past where max points was impossible while even getting good amount of points was hard.
Both have applications.
Got it. Thanks
Thanks for the review! It gives a lot of insight of Minstrel vs. Narwhal's Daughter vs. Barbara vs. Matriarch. I know that I need to save for Matriarch/Jo, but I'm scared to let Albert go into the platinum pool.
What are your thoughts on Mirsa's S2 (AOE WIL debuff) on an IK team with Albert? It would require Mirsa to go first but could help the success rate of Victor's Blade.
Just noticed this comment here. Not sure if anyone else would come by to answer this but I have just tried this set-up earlier today.
In my opinion, using this set-up would be preferred
(1) if the enemies have a slightly higher WIL and/or,
(2) you wanna farm at an even more consistent speed.
Differences would be:
(1) If runtime matters, its about ~50s/run with Mirsa, ~40s without Mirsa.
(2) If Mirsa is near the stats/hp cap, this means that you would only have slots for 2 trainees.
Overall: The runs are more consistent.
Thanks for the response!
Unfortunately at this point I don't have neither Mirsa nor Healbert (18k jewels into the banner and nothing) but I'm curious for the future possibilities.
I have seen Healbert still being used in JP. So long as the enemies do not resist death, then its all about wil debuff(s) and/or int debuff (future Rocb style), then leaving the rest of the party to be trainees or clearing up the enemies.
Its quite good overall but requires others (STundine/Volcano etc) to make it work better. I hope you can get him soon!
I think a better way of looking at Minstrel is talking about if you do or don't have Narwhal. I think he's not worth the jewels or investment if you do have Narwhal, as many OGs surely do, but I'd recommend Minstrel to players who (for some reason) skipped or started later. Is he as valuable as HK/Jo? No, but there should be enough jewels incoming in the "1.5 month" that worrying about pulling one or the other shouldn't come into it.
Having that support slot providing guard up and damage up to the whole party, supporting HK and 2-3 DPS, is very worth it IMO.
I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that most manual/high-difficulty content in JP nowadays heavily is bipolar in how you want excessive offensive support (Matriarch/Barbara) or pure defensive support (Ice-snow Genryuu/NY Golden Baum/etc.).
I still think it is just better to wait for Narwhal's rerun or even go pull for Mesartim then just pull for Minstrel if you really need manual content support in general. The later perspective of manual fights (and honestly the annoying fact that Raid event template isn't really fun) really didn't do any favors for Minstrel.
Times just haven't been great for the bard. The buff wipes mechanic does help him a bit, but those are only found in raids (which is even more of a niche mode then getting max scores in Battle Island due to how you want an efficient 2T Bossing Nuke Team compared to just shooting for damage score).
Just a question about Albert: is the christmas style worth using due to his higher INT or not at all due to his low agi?
And if you have turn 2 and 3 aoe nuker, like undine/byunei/urpina etc etc , this style is not useful, right?
Although 40% --> 47% is more noticeable then most people think, Christmas Style doesn't have Power Charge II.
So you won't be able to do the 6-6-6 rotation. If you are able to do 2 rounds, then it's fine... But the issue is that cases for AoE KO/Death and 2 rounds are rare. Instead, ST KO/Death for 2 rounds become more sought out due to how fast 2Y Anniversary and New Years conquest stat grind was thanks to the "Jamil and 4 people" comp.
Overall, this style is an enabler of **one type** of a grinding team. But there are multiple types of grinding teams from [Fast] AoE Nukers and 2T Boss nuking teams. It's basically just an option that's open should you find yourself with an event that is just not ideal for stat grinding.
Ok I see, so even if we can't do the 6-6-6 it's no problem, we just do 6-6 and then last turn we use some byunney/rouge/undine with their A rank AOE :D
I just looked at all my volcano's and undines abilities for any of which might have something with -5% will and found nothing.
Which styles are they?
For the Albert instakill stages marked "Be wary of monsters outspeeding you", we can now bring >!the new SS Dahao with her start of round 10% AoE AGI+DEX debuff passive!< to offset that. For those of us lucky enough to have gotten her. I was low on jewels and spent $50 trying to get her, but to no avail.....
I don't know... That's on an SS Da Hao, who has 89%+5 AGI on level 50 (Albert has 87%+13 AGI). Their AGI's are so close that Da Hao can just interrupt Albert. This basically kills Colorful Rangers since you want 3 actions.
Since you will definitely use her for hard content due to how landing the -AGI/-DEX is definitely important, there's no way to keep her on low level also since you want her at level 50 without any compromise. Even on the back slot of Anima Stream, you still need also Undine or/and Volcano, so you end up using 3/4 party slots and only corpse run one character. It gets even more awkward in cases like chapter 11 where you need to run a Sun AoE since the second wave is immune to Death/KO.
I'd rather just use Da Hao as an AoE finisher with a mage team (Byunei, Jo, Barthelemy, Vassault, etc.) at that point since her higher AGI enables her to use Supersonic faster then most people.
