My god I’m just so unbelievably happy about this album. These 4 fellas and the music they create mean so so much to me. This is going to soundtrack my summer for sure.

Gnimir

I'm with you! :)

lewisbaldwin

Nice

greeneggsandspamrisk

I see what you did there

ddantez

I’m beside you

SpaceNatureMusic

By the way, me too

AnythingSwimming759

Stadium Arcadium, so am I.

Traditional_Map2254

Freaky Styley as always.

dandayo

And I The Red Hot Chili Peppers!

DuskInspo

NME also referred to Bastards of Light as a ‘future live staple’ 👀👀👀👀

Gnimir

Potential, I guess.

DuskInspo

I was happily surprised! They’ve not always been so showering with praise

EstablishmentOk81

I know right? They even went out if their way to say ‘best songs they have written’ . But they also interviewed the band before the review, unlike the other times they posted reviews so maybe that has an effect on their bias. Idk

DuskInspo

Big changing of the guard there in recent times but honestly there’s so much good stuff happening in British rock let alone British music rn that I would not discredit the gesture from NME giving them a cover and a ‘big read’ interview in amongst one of the most creative eras. John is back so, naturally, but I’m taking it as further confirmation that the album got bangers.

arcessivi

Based on description alone, that’s the one I’m most excited for!!

ddantez

Hey, non-native here. Would you please clarify this?

DuskInspo

Hey, do you mean the word ‘staple’ ? It means the song will be expected on live set lists all the time

ddantez

Yes. That’s it! Thank you so much.

SaundyDaundy1999

You know what, for a second, I was honestly afraid that the word “California” was not going to feature on this record

funger92

I know, but just one? Wtf happened with this band.

Gnimir

It would be heresy!

scottymackay89

These descriptions are making my pee pee dance.

ViaRailTheOcean

They making it Dance Dance Dance ?

thisnewsight

Oh, gonna have tons of ballads? Count me STOKED! Kiedis does super well with “slow songs”

Gnimir

From the descriptions I would guess that it would be: "Not the One", "The Great Apes", "White Braids & Pillow Chair", "Veronica" and "Tangelo". And maybe: "It's Only Natural", because we know little about it. Is "Black Summer" a ballad? We don't have to determine. Just wondering.

scratchyhat

It's about as much of a ballad as Californication, but not a strict one like Under the Bridge or Road Trippin'.

Gnimir

It seems irrelevant, but it's hard to say what is a ballad and what is not. I dance to "Black Summer", so it's a danceable song for me.

scratchyhat

I mean you can dance to Could Have Lied, far as that goes.

Gnimir

Sure I can ;)

thisnewsight

In my book, Black summer is a ballad with a loud chorus

Best-Clerk-935

We know a little about It’s Only Natural?

HerbalThought_

Great stuff OP. Quality post.

UnderwaterDialect

>A Beatles tune in disguise. Like John writing a John Lennon song with AK. OH. MY. GOD. As if I wasn't excited enough already!!

Gnimir

I imagine the dialogue of the guitar with the harmony of two interpenetrating vocals... And I wonder if Flea plays in this song at all. It may sound strange, but I would like to hear such intimate (?) music performed only by John and Anthony. They had complicated relations, but they must love each other, right? :D ... musically at least.

EstablishmentOk81

Thanks for taking the time. I just dont know how accurate these reporters are. Good thing is it seems every song has ‘good bass groove’

Gnimir

A few of the descriptions are from Bass Magazine and they focus solely on bass. But yes, even other than that, a lot of songs can be considered "bass driven". And of course, these descriptions aren't 100% necessary to fulfill as an expectation. It's just a cool sneak peek that additionally increases the big hype.

Acceptable_Foot7830

I'm so hyped for this album based on the first two tracks. I honestly can't believe we're this close to having it.

RHCPTom

The Great thing about a new rhcp record is u never know what it’ll sound like there’s always an air of mystique around new songs, it feels no different this time round. I’m very curious on “The Heavy Wing” and “It’s Only Natural” especially.

Gnimir

Yes! Exactly. It's fun. Once we hear these songs, we won't be able to experience the 'first time' again. Let's enjoy the time we have :)

Rianorosz

Sounds like a banger album!! Kinda sad that we will missing Chad from the Tangelo and probably getting a Road tripping kinda vibe. Also John’s guitar solos wasn’t mentioned at all, hopefully we will still getting some good stuff on this album from him as well

GringoMambi

Honestly kind of hard to feel that way when the singles haven’t been Bangers themselves. So far, looks like they came in with a measured and toned down approach. I think it will be a good album, but nothing to lose our minds about. Hope I’m proven wrong

Rianorosz

It does seems like I won’t lie, but we have to wait till we hear the whole album. Other than that, all we can do is suspecting. Let’s hope we will get killer album. My dream-hope is getting a Californication 2.0. Set back, melodic but funk and rock enough

royalewithrux

seems like it'll be a synthesis of their 90s/00s work with a couple of curveballs thrown in, which is about what i expected

LouBricant

Banger album? The article describes ‘a lot of ballads. A lot. Lol

Rianorosz

I think BTW has lots of ballads as well. It doesn’t mean it will be a slow dancing album… we know the RHCP better than that. I rather have ballads which hit than “Readymade” type of songs.

TwistedBamboozler

Wtf is wrong with readymade?! You crazy

Rianorosz

Not my taste. That’s all

SpenFen

Chills

OkPanic922

My heart soars with the eagle’s nest.

JimiFrusciante96

Can’t wait in just ecstatic!

funger92

I love gang vocals in RHCP songs. So my interest in She's A Lover has increased even more. BTW, here's a bass cover of the Tetris song: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwrTLxDWij4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwrTLxDWij4). Also, when I think in my mind of One Way Traffic I imagine a bassline like the one in Stone Cold Bush. Here are the songs I'm most hyped by: 1. One Way Traffic 2. Aquatic Mouth Dance 3. White Braids & Pillow Chair

Immediate-Weight-

Ooof... Aquatic Mouth Dance. Yes please.

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

Could white braids and pillow chair be using that surfy bass line flea posted to his Instagram a year or more ago??

Gnimir

Who knows! (he knows) :D

DrewMann82

Thank you for this "These are the Ways" and "Bastards of Light" sound like they're in the family of "This Ticonderoga" from The Get Away, which was my favorite song off that album and what I consider a leap forward in the more fast paced rock songs RHCP does. Rest of the album seems solid too, cannot wait!

mikeymaggz86

man! i can’t handle reading these descriptions! i need this!

Michelem0322

I’m excited!!!!

Funkymonk_92

This is exciting!

doctorforce

Argh can't wait

johnkingg_

you're my hero

outroversion

Never has so many words said so little lol

RIckDogg12486

NASHVILLE IN AUGUST!

pox97

When I read these descriptions, I feel like some of the reviewers (the cassete guy for example) didnt listen to the same album? Its very weird. I cant wait for it!

LouBricant

A lot of ballads :/ oh no

tonyshazam

So are they only talking about Flea’s bass?

Gnimir

In the interview? Mainly. The entire interview is available somewhere here on subreddit.

douguee

Did you guys notice that Flea gets a lot of praise and there’s almost no mention of John’s playing on the album? I think he decided to lay back this time around

Sufficient_Peak564

Most of these descriptions though are from the recent interview Flea did in Bass Player Magazine, where they mostly focus on... you guessed it, Bass. Lol Either way i think youre right. From the 2 tracks released , John Seems to be taking the less is more approach again.

RedHot_ChiliPeppers

This might be the bass solo on 'here ever after': https://youtu.be/IeuikNBZGF4

Sufficient_Peak564

Im curious what they meant by "Janes Addiction beat". Lol like "Jane Says" or like "Standing in the Shower thinking"?! Also super hyped for Tangelo

Christos74

Nothing about John’s vocals/vocal harmonies 🥺

Gnimir

Check "It's Only Natural" - "hypnotic harmonies". This may be for vocal harmonies. Also "Tangelo" - I think it will be for two voices.

ThetaHater

17 tracks make me so happy.

trollman9

Really hyped for the heavy wing!

Fine_Opportunity3041

The Heavy Wing 🔥🔥🔥 definitely not the typical RHCP sound but that fucking chorus has POWER. It gives me lost of J.F solo vibes.

deaddrums

Looking back these were pretty damn accurate

Chr15py0696

Remove the emojis, otherwise it’s a good post

CaringVisual

Wish there was more description on John's contributions. Otherwise this just seems like a bass album lol

Gnimir

A few of the descriptions are for bass only, as it comes from Bass Magazine (on the occasion of an interview with Flea). We have to wait for the article from Guitar Magazine :D

[deleted]

i thought the same but most of those quotes are from fleas interview on Bass Magazine, so it's to be expected

tealicious1337

me too was searching for "AMAZING GUITAR SOLO" x\_x ... b
