Funnily enough mine’s bussiness
Edit: ignored autocorrect to show how I always wanna spell it
Edit 2: OOH ALSO, for some reason my brain insists every time that “hamster” is spelled “hampster.”
Business. That dreadful word has haunted me since the 4th grade when I misspelled it during a spelling bee competition. Lol On the plus, I’ve never misspelled it again. Also, mortgage. I lost the 5th grade spelling bee with that one. I was just a kid, how would I have known how to spell mortgage? 🤣
My dog recently had diarrhea and before taking him to the vet, I was googling symptoms. I couldn’t spell it and autocorrect just shrugged its shoulders. So I would quietly use talk to text. So I could be public whispering “diarrhea” into my phone.
although in australian (and british, etc.) english, licen**c**e is the noun (so the physical card) and licen**s**e is the verb
same with practi**c**e and practi**s**e (e.g. "they are licensed to practise medicine as their medical practice has a licence")
i remember the difference bc "ice" is a noun so therefore it's the one that means nouns. but i guess that only works for practise/practice but it's enough for me to figure it out.
The way I remembered the difference is by thinking about “advice” vs “advise”. Because they sound different, it’s much easier for me to remember which is the noun and which is the verb
My thing with "convenience" (and "inconvenience") is that I can type it perfectly without thinking about it. But the second I need to actually spell it, my brain breaks.
aquaitances.. aquantances? auqantancesjddjjdjwofjdid. fuck. i don't know, english is not my first language, but i know it quite well, although i think that's the only word i can never get right.
As someone whose first language is English, idk how to spell it either lmao
I also have a lot of trouble with coincidence (I learned how to spell it last night. Will probably forget again soon. My latest spelling was “qoinsidince”)
I’ve always had trouble spelling tho, the running joke with that is “borderline dyslexic” I’m learning Japanese and Russian rn and although it’s easier, I still suck at it
Edit: also restaurant, acquaintances, exercise, etc. (speech to text is god sent)
I always remember it as "rest or rant" So long as you know it's rest\_\_rant it's pretty easy to fill in the blanks. Hope that helps.
In other news, if you're like me and have trouble remembering which of dessert and desert has a cactus and which is made of chocolate, simply remember that dessert has two scoops (two s's). Thank you goodnight.
This is my biggest one too... thinking of a trick to use...
Exer as in "exert" energy
And cise.... as in....
in...
Oh buddy I don't know. We're doomed.
Yeah, that’s exactly it. It’s a pathological inflammatory reaction in the lungs involving the inhalation of ultramicroscopic particles from volcanic ash
i can tell from the etymology... it makes sense logically to call it that because its a literal descriptor of the condition, but why cant we just name these things after people or just call it something like 'volcano lung' so people such as yourself don't have to worry about trying to spell it?
Black lung disease. Often found in coal miners. Learned this one in 6th grade. I love pulling it out at party games, but never have been able to play it during Scrabble. I think if I tried to, I would break the game somehow.
Is that like some sort of spontaneous blood vessel rupture in the lungs? Just a guess, because that just looks like a compound word made of fairly easy constituent words.
No, it’s a pathological inflammatory reaction in the lungs caused by the inhalation of very small particles from volcanic eruption
The base word is *pneumo-coniosis*
Everything else is a descriptive element of the pathology
It’s essentially black lung caused by volcanic eruption, specifically
Bureaucracy
I often can't even get it close enough that autocorrect fixes it.. I don't know why that one specific word. My spelling is generally good but that one has too many random vowels in the first half.
I know I already replied to one of your other comments, but I just wanted to say to this:
tell me your age without telling me your age haha
But also:
Same.
Well now that you've asked this; All of them. My entire existence and function is predicated on the implication that all things just *are* and I know that. Now I know nothing. Thanks a lot, pal.
Restraraunt
res tau rant restaurant
Good lord. I've been saying resturaunts at one point in time
Sounding it out as Spanish actually helped most with this one.
Funnily enough mine’s bussiness Edit: ignored autocorrect to show how I always wanna spell it Edit 2: OOH ALSO, for some reason my brain insists every time that “hamster” is spelled “hampster.”
business busy + ness = business
Thanks! Busyness
That's one of my problem words, too! Thanks a bunch!
Busyness is an actual word though - the state of having heaps to do.
Sigh. I’m pathetic. Mine is weirdly… diarrhoea
Looks like you’ve completely lost control of your vowels.
Where is an award when I need one....
My dog recently had diarrhea and before taking him to the vet, I was googling symptoms. I couldn’t spell it and autocorrect just shrugged its shoulders. So I would quietly use talk to text. So I could be public whispering “diarrhea” into my phone.
Is doggo okay now?
No, it's diarrhea! (I kid)
I won a drunk spelling bee with that one.
Way to overcome adversity! So what word did you spell?
😢😭 Still can’t spell it.
i can relate
License
if it has an S AND a S sounding C, all hope is lost for me
wait a sec that rhymes
> if it has an S AND a S sounding C... Oh yes, someone knows a rule for these spellings! >... All hope is lost F....
although in australian (and british, etc.) english, licen**c**e is the noun (so the physical card) and licen**s**e is the verb same with practi**c**e and practi**s**e (e.g. "they are licensed to practise medicine as their medical practice has a licence") i remember the difference bc "ice" is a noun so therefore it's the one that means nouns. but i guess that only works for practise/practice but it's enough for me to figure it out.

I had this problem until I just pictured an actual Lice in someone's hair. Then started spelling LICEnse
This is genius! Also fuck the English language. WTF do I have to cross reference [situational] words to get other words spelled right?!?
Thank you!
The way I remember this is the C & S are in alphabetical order! Hopefully this can help you too
Same here!!
I would tell you but I can't spell it
But it's on your conscience, I'll bet! 😆
Helen Hunt in As You Like It "Con science? That can't be right!"
Isn’t this in “As Good as it Gets”?
Necessary
A shirt has one Collar and two Sleeves Necessary has one C and two Ss Haven't spelled it wrong since.
Thank you Master! I am forever in your favor.
Been using this since primary school. Works a charm
Came to say this one....that one there that I can't spell so I'm not even tryin
From years of reading reddit comments, there should be a lot more people saying "lose".
And cease.
And payed
paid
I was referring to the paying out of rope in a nautical setting
They’re a bunch of loosers anyway
Convenience
What an inconvenient word
My thing with "convenience" (and "inconvenience") is that I can type it perfectly without thinking about it. But the second I need to actually spell it, my brain breaks.
Cnt spell it to save my life!
Bureau
Bureaucracy for me.
Nearly impossible to spell
Those damn French vowels
Fucking spell check tries to give you any other word… even computers can’t spell that one
I spelled it as beaureaucracy for a very long time lol
This one! I hate trying to write it as much I hate having to deal with it.
I used to be unable to spell wierd but now it isn't an issue.
.. I have terrible news..
Is something wierd?
Isn’t it supposed to be terirble news?
Embarrass
when I am embarrassed I get Really Red And So Sad that's how I remember it
Oh my gahhhh this is amazing, thank you.
well that’s embarrassing
aquaitances.. aquantances? auqantancesjddjjdjwofjdid. fuck. i don't know, english is not my first language, but i know it quite well, although i think that's the only word i can never get right.

Vacuum
I remember learning there's 2 "u", because YOU do it.
Helpful but idk how I feel about this
Thank you for this trick!
Definitely
I had trouble with this one until I realized that finite is the root word de - finite - ly
How do you spell fineite
I have been doing things defiantly when I definitely shouldn’t have been.
Restraunt Restaraunt Restaurant (autocorrect finally got my back)
I always remember it as "rest or rant" So long as you know it's rest\_\_rant it's pretty easy to fill in the blanks. Hope that helps. In other news, if you're like me and have trouble remembering which of dessert and desert has a cactus and which is made of chocolate, simply remember that dessert has two scoops (two s's). Tounge

Tongue
Onomatopoeia.
One of my talents is being able to spell that without looking at it.
I feel the same way about Albuquerque
You're hired
That has a nice sound to it
Exersize. Excercize. 😭😭😭
Solution: working out.
This is my biggest one too... thinking of a trick to use... Exer as in "exert" energy And cise.... as in.... in... Oh buddy I don't know. We're doomed.
We had to write that in school all the time and I got so confused I just wrote Ex.
Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (I made sure it was spelt correctly lol) Another one is rhythm.
Uhm…. Are you a doctor ? 🤣
Yes lol Training to be one, atleast
does this have something to do with the effects of breathing in volcanic ash
Yeah, that’s exactly it. It’s a pathological inflammatory reaction in the lungs involving the inhalation of ultramicroscopic particles from volcanic ash
i can tell from the etymology... it makes sense logically to call it that because its a literal descriptor of the condition, but why cant we just name these things after people or just call it something like 'volcano lung' so people such as yourself don't have to worry about trying to spell it?
Especially because that's what it's going to be called anyway.
Rhythm gets me every time. Every damn time!
Rhythm Has Your Two Hips Moving - I still use that.
Someone once said the rhythm is gonna get you. Tonight.
Black lung disease. Often found in coal miners. Learned this one in 6th grade. I love pulling it out at party games, but never have been able to play it during Scrabble. I think if I tried to, I would break the game somehow.
Beat me to it.
For which one? Lol
I looked up the longest word and got that. I trained myself to say it pretty quickly. Isn’t it some sort of a cancer?
Is that like some sort of spontaneous blood vessel rupture in the lungs? Just a guess, because that just looks like a compound word made of fairly easy constituent words.
No, it’s a pathological inflammatory reaction in the lungs caused by the inhalation of very small particles from volcanic eruption The base word is *pneumo-coniosis* Everything else is a descriptive element of the pathology It’s essentially black lung caused by volcanic eruption, specifically
Restaurant kicks my ass for some reason
What amazing technology we have these days /s
Same i am forever having to spellcheck that word and it always comes back as "restraint" for some reason lol.
So you're going along your day and you're tired and hangry. You need to REST. So you sit and shout to a waiter, "A! U!" and RANT on about your order.
Renaissance.
scedhual

Bureaucracy I often can't even get it close enough that autocorrect fixes it.. I don't know why that one specific word. My spelling is generally good but that one has too many random vowels in the first half.
necessary
Sheriff. Never remember if it is one "r" or two, and if it is one "f" or two. Thank god for autocorrect
But my autocorrect actually learns my wrong spelling of a word if I type it that way enough times. It’s become Auto-incorrect now.
guarantee
Samesies. I always try to put the a after the g…
Yesss I rely on autocorrect for that.

Make sure to get a receipt for that recipe
Diagonally (I finally got close enough on my 3rd attempt for spell check to help me).
Helps if you’re into a little Harry Potter - think *Dia-gon Ally*
I know I already replied to one of your other comments, but I just wanted to say to this: tell me your age without telling me your age haha But also: Same.
Receive. Even typing it just now autocorrect saved me from “recieve.” I didn’t even know I was wrong until a couple months ago!
I before E, except after C, or when sounding like A as in neighbor or weigh.
And weird is spelled weird.

"Reese's Pieces"... there is an apostrophe before that "s".. somebody already owns those pieces..
It still grates me to hear them pronounced ## Reeeseees Peeeseees
YES, why does it go over so many people’s heads that it is supposed to rhyme? But they can otherwise say Reese and piece without the emphasis?? Haha

Vacuum,tomorrow,dessert or desert?
Dessert has two "s" , because you always want more, is how I learned the difference.
i learned it as dessert has two s’s because it’s extra *s*weet
My mom was an elementary school teacher who taught us “You eat desserts when you’re stressed,” because stressed is desserts backwards.
Exercise.. and yeah spelled it wrong the first try
