That look of realization
By - -swxxt-
This amazing diving shot was from Kelly van Zon in Rio 2016 Paralympic against Kubra Korkut. Kelly also won the match.
They’ve got a [whole classification process](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disability_sport_classification?wprov=sfti1) to group athletes by their disabilities, all ranging from vision impairment, amputations, and intellectual disabilities.
That is genuinely incredible.
Yeah, that left foot, my god that looks bad. They just throw on normal shoes and that's it? I mean don't even put soles on the sides? That would destroy a pair of shoes so quickly.
Two bum legs really, but yeah. I have no clue how they Guage it
~~When you say "a bum leg" do you mean how she's missing large amounts of *both* of them?~~
He's talking about the person who made the dive.
I'm dumb. That wasn't even remotely unclear. I'm just dumb.
Lol. No worries
Damn I didn't even notice any of that the first time I watched it. The fact they did it with some significant physical impairmenta makes this even more impressive
She's got zero legs
Well the winner doesn’t only have a bum leg.
Kelly won the match but they both win at life. Amazing.
Damn that's some patronizing shit right there. Reddit does love it tho
People talking like insurance commercials lol
Lol so fuckin blunt. I love it.
God bless you.
What contest did they win to get born with disabilities?
I'm assuming he meant that, despite their disabilities, they still made it that far in life
That look of realization of was good, but the face that the other one made just as she was serving killed me.
The tongue jumping out and the eyes. Haunting.
She is the Happy Gilmore of table tennis.
What are you doing, Sny-Sys?
The Try Some Me 21
I mean it would be less awful if they weren't disabled.
Disabled not differently abled. My bad.
I know you mean well with the term "differently abled" but please stop using it. It can come across as condescending to people with disabilities like myself. The word disabled isn't a slur or an insult whatsoever. But don't just take it from me, here's other people with disabilities that share a similar sentiment.
Thanks for the correction :)
Damn. Mocking disabled people for their disabilities. I knew reddit was going downhill but the fact that this has so many upvotes is sad.
Gross mother fuckers.
Am I more or less progressive for just assuming this was the regular Olympics and not the disabled Olympics?
It’s pretty clear it’s the Paralympics. The missing arm might be a hint lol
... This is going to sound ridiculous... but in my head it was a technique, like she was holding her hand behind her back for balance or something... once more I didn't want to assume anything... maybe a one armed ping pong player made the Olympics, I mean I would have 0 problem with that... are you saying you would have a problem with the differently able'd not be allowed to participate in the regular Olympics... yeah who's the butt hole now!!!
Reverse Uno card. Damm
They regulate how much butt fabric women volleyball players can have, I'm pretty sure they regulate how many arms you can have.
The arm is missing? I just thought it was behind their back
... and legs
It's extremely obvious too. Her movement is clear that she has a disability. And you have the opponent with no arm and prostetic legs. And if that wasn't enough, it literally says Paralympic Games on the floor.
Lots of people on reddit seem to think it's cool to mock people they don't know online. People who aren't even trying to have an online presence, they are just trying to live their lives.
It is disgusting and I agree with you 100%.
Happen to you a lot?
What, finding people mocking handicapped? Nah not really, I'm mostly referring to racist and sexist stuff found in the comments of /actual public freakout.
But it is all symptoms of gross motherfuckers.
So, your commentary was on a different behavior by different people in a different sub?
No, if you carefully read my comment you might see where I wrote the word "reddit".
Reddit is going downhill. The commentary was on reddit.
Well, thank you for contributing.
Hahahahahaha you savage
Grow up and go outside
Why are you getting down votes lol you people need help.
That's kind of a really shitty thing to say.
😂 oh God hahahahahqha
That's a war face!
That's the look of extreme concentration. I make it when applying mascara, because I'm too lazy to play sports.
I mean this is the paralympics and she's clearly disabled in some way...
You may be right. First couple times I watched it I just saw some people playing ping pong. Didn't even notice missing limbs till at least the 3rd watch. ...I'm not very observant. And disabled or not, they'd both kick my ass at ping pong.
Dude I saw it like 5 times and read this comment before I noticed anything beyond the missing arm.
May be right? It says Paralympics on the floor.
Who's disabled now lmao (this is a joke btw)
So? Her face doesn't always look like that. She goes from looking totally relaxed to making that face, which tons of people make when they concentrate hard.
It rubs me the wrong way that people are responding to this comment with "but she's disabled!!" like they think it means her face is stuck this way and she's incapable of making multiple expressions.
If these people saw the face I make when serving in tennis, they’d shit their pants. People make stupid faces when they’re focusing.
Ok it's still fucking hilarious
She’s known for making odd faces
Totally disarming look.
Better every time
I bet she’s a lot of fun. Like at parties and just to chat with.
Didnt know it was the special olympics
I didn’t see it so much as a “look of realization” as a “WTF! Dives aren’t fair”
I thought she blew on the ball instead of hitting it at first lol
Gotta love replays that show the player’s face instead of what the ball is doing.
I still have no idea wtf happened. She dove for the shot but it looks like it completely missed the table? Idk this washorrible camera work for me?
Except that wicked serve face. They made sure to really get that in the shot lol.
I did it! who do you think you are? I am!
How do they pit 2 Paralympians together so it's "fair"? The woman closest struggles moving but the opposition only has an arm missing, seems a bit unfair to me. Genuinely curious if there is any thought behind it.
She is also missing two legs dude. She has 1 limb.
Oh shit, I didn't even notice her leg prosthesis
Oh yeah, good point.
Oh fuck i didnt even realize the one armer and no legs!!! Fuck how do i miss yhese things
Like... what happened to her?!?
According to Wikipedia "She lost one arm and both legs due to injuries sustained from an electric shock accident, which occurred as she was four years old."
Damn that's awful - I used to work with someone whose son lost both arms due to an electric shock incident when he was a child.
The other woman has 4 limbs, seems a bit unfair.
And cerebral palsy, which may be associated with mental disabilities and serious physical ones as well. For example, they might have very weak muscle tone, or have serious tremors especially when reaching for something.
Nonetheless, there is a very detailed process on how they are divided into categories, so I would say people that actually know their shit decided on a mostly fair categorization.
Yea missing one arm in ping-pong is like missing an eye at a spelling be
She’s named Kubra but we calls her Peggy
You don’t play table tennis with two hands though, so not sure how that would be unfair.
Another good point that I completely forgot about fml.
Haha, no worries. You did pose a good question though that sparked conversation, so it wasn’t a complete fail
Not complete but a little bittle.
Other hand helps with balance and moving. You need zero hands to run, but they do help a lot.
They don't. There are eligible disabilities and if you have one then you can compete. Obviously some will be more of a handicap than others but it's never going to be completely fair. It's not 'fair' competing against someone with better genes in the regular Olympics either.
That’s not completely right. They have different divisions for disabilities. Take Cerebral Palsy for example. There are 8 sport classifications for people with CP depending on the severity of their condition and how it affects their body. [CP sport classifications. ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebral_palsy_sport_classification)
Imagine having to be on the panel that ranks people on the severity of their disabilities
God could you imagine if it was corrupt? Like some dude tries to imitate The Ringer?
[So basically this
I knew it would be this and still clicked.
And also the [real life version](https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2013/10/08/paralympics-scandal-spain-disabilities-sydney-2000/), in case anyone was unaware.
Holy shit. How did I not know about this‽ That's amazing. I would argue that the athletes were in fact intellectually disabled as they willingly competed against actually disabled people knowing full well they themselves weren't.
Which came out first? Who stole who’s idea? Lmao that’s the exact same shit
Neither “came up with it” first, as it’s hardly an original idea.
It’s just a matter of how to take the same joke concept and deliver it in a funny, fresh way.
Then who first publicly made the joke?
I do not know.
I am going to go out on a limb and say, "Simpsons did it!".
Ok, Gloria is missing her big toe and she was kicked in the head by a mule so she’s pretty nimble but sometimes she’s not certain what sport she’s playing. Paula lost both shins to a glass top coffee table but nailed her SATs. I say line those two up. What do you think, Johnson?

That's not even close to right. There a ton of classifications for paralympic athletes.
I didnt even realize her legs were fucked up
I didn’t notice the missing arm, 2 prosthetic legs, or either of her legs until I read the comments about this being the paralympics. I would be the worst eye witness in the world. Or maybe just slightly better than actually blind people.
There's actually a lot of interesting ways that this is done.
There is a type of soccer played with a ball that has a Rattle and Boards near the floor to hear sound Reverb off to know where the other players in the ball is. It's really common for people that are legally blind to see shadows and things, so all of the players will wear a blindfold so nobody can see any bit at all. In the competitive level there are regulation blindfolds that are standardized so nobody can cheat.
I have other examples but I am not disabled and I dont want to get the details wrong. I highly reccomend going g on youtube or tiktok and watching disabled content, they disabled community does so much advocacy and education you can spend hours and hours and its actually genuinely interesting on top.of being presented really well.
How do they decide which disabilities are compatible for competition?
Last time I looked into it depends on the sport, but there's basically a ranking system.
Thats a really good, thought provoking, question. I wonder if its up to the athletes or the IOC?
Yea it really interests me. I’m going to look into it. Like I thought this was a bit of unfair advantage being that the woman in orange seems to have a pretty heavy disability, while the woman in black is “only” missing one arm. But then I noticed that the woman in black also has two prosthetic legs.
A ton of different variables must go into this.
Unless they’re literally just like ya you’re janky. She’s janky. Go play some table tennis and see what happens.
You made me laugh in bed out loud. You're janky, she's janky, to play some table tennis.
The jank scale if you will is an interesting concept for us right now (unless you've already looked it up). A Schrodinger's Jank if you will, it's either infinitely interesting for how they compare disabilities or infinitely confounding for how they let such different disabilities compete.
Even if there are scales, how large are the margins? Like 3 limbs compared to 1. I'm sorry if this is at all morbid or offensive.
Its a ranking system, but honestly from my experience in swimming the system can be a bit weird and unfair. In my opinion, I felt the system could definitely be taken advantage of.
She didn't even applaud that great shot by her opponent. There is no sportsmanship these days.
I had to read that 4 or 5 times before I got it but I realised in the end
Watched this video 3 times and *still* didn't notice this was the Paralympics until I read it in the comments. Sometimes I wonder what my eyes actually see.
The other girl only having 1 total limb wasn't a giveaway? Lol.
For some reason I just thought she was being cocky and had 1 arm behind her back. I wasn't looking directly at her, but more so the actual game.
Good for you dude, you literally don't see disabilities.
It helps that I'm blind.
Isn‘t this just professional sport 101? Don‘t quit until it‘s officially over.
r/LostRedditors but, like, the opposite…
What did you think a subreddit called Prematurecelebration would consist of?
She could appeal the ruling on that point, but she really doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
(I’m so sorry. I had to do it. I know I’m going to deep hell for that.)
Probably Extra Hell (from the memes).
One ticket to dank meme hell pls
Damn that was epic
Sure, if I beat a disabled person and celebrate I'm somehow the ass. 🙄
Would that count? Doesn’t the ball need to go over the net for it to count? Sorry, not all that well-versed in ping pong.
No, there are no rules like that. It can go around and even hit the edge, but not the side of the table.
Afaik It only needs to go over the net on the serve. Then all is fair game. As long as you hit some part of the enemy side’s surface
Yeah, i'm gonna need someone to tell me what happened there. I assume orange player did not win?
She did win. This shot and the match. The player in black judged this shot to have won her a point but orange dove for the ball and still made the shot in her favour. The face on black shows her surprise.
You don't have to clear the net, just get the ball to hit on their side. Same as tennis, if a ball is hit far outside the court there are opportunities for strange plays like this.
In table tennis you can hit an impossible shot to return in these situations by getting the ball to roll on their side instead of bounce
>You don't have to clear the net, just get the ball to hit on their side.
To be pedantic, I believe you need to clear the net on the serve (just like regular tennis). On the return and the rest of the volley, the net is fair.
If I remember correctly, you do not actually have to clear the net. The only rule is to have it bounce on the opponent's side
In table tennis, a return does not have to go 'clear' the net, it only has to land on the opposite half of the table. The net is an obstacle to hit around, nothing more. So if a return goes sideways around the net and lands ANYWHERE on the opposite side of the table, it's still a valid return.
Watch this shot. If it happens in a game it's a legal return.
Haha yes she did, after black thought she would never get it and prematurely celebrated.
Just a bit of 'armless fun. She tried to appeal to the ref but she hasn't got a leg to stand on.
She protested but didn’t have a leg to stand on
Woah, that move really costed her an arm and a leg..
That look when you realize that if she lost, she would lose the other arm.
it is and i laughed
They are both handicapped
Call bullshit all you want. Use your eyes and look at that poor girls legs, they are both obviously very handicapped.
Fuck there’s a bunch of assholes in this thread, like serious I hope you get hit by a truck and lose your legs for being dicks sorta assholes.
I’m a huge dickhead so when I cringe you know you fuckers are going to get karma coming down on your asses one day.
In ping pong, dies the ball not need to go over the net?
G E K O L O N I S E E R D
Would of been nice to see the actual shot go in
Why would you turn away from that? I've made shots like that and I'm, like, okay at ping pong.
It didn’t go over the net on the return tho?
After watching that display, I'm definitely the one whose disabled when it comes to table tennis.
The pinger from the ponger's only got one arm
- I call this move "My daily struggle" (then dives)
Fuckin Forest Gump level shit
Why do they serve like that?
My grandpa used to do physics bending trick shots like that. Rip ping-pong master.
They both look like Lois from Malcolm in the middle.
I’d like to see the shot in more detail as well it looked really nice but cuts to the reaction to fast.
How does she manage to even walk on her ankle like that?
is this the thing that’s called paralympics
When you realize you're not the main character.
Well give yourself a hand!
The psychological play from the lady in Orange tho. She kept her arm in close to hide the fact that her disabilities didn't include the range of motion of her elbow, allowing her opponent to greatly underestimate her reach
How does the one handed person serve the ball
Mouth to paddle
“She fucking dove with two bad legs????”
