Ted will hold a press conference to let us all know the city is making a comeback and doing fine.

GlobalPhreak

"Recent incidents" - wonder what those are...

Apart-Engine

Another testimonial for all the Measure 110 addicts running amok out there.

Good. More businesses should leave. I wouldn’t put up with this ongoing bullshit.

PaPilot98

A sad contrast between there and just across the water in the Vancouver waterfront.

CHECKYOURHED

Does the city have a plan for all of that land next to the red lion??? I had kept hearing that they were going to tear those hotels down a few years ago and build that area up, but it’s pretty much just a shit hole now.

RamblinRod_PDX

Kate Brown loves more unemployment. That means more people dependent of the government. More people dependent on government means more power and control. Another win for Stakeholder Capitalism and agenda 2030z.

GlobalPhreak

Kate Brown is out of office as of January, why would she care?

Apart-Engine

She’s never cared.

I feel like this news would be more impactful if these were local businesses with local interests. First of all who gives a shit about Cracker Barrel? People eating there are the ones who want blacks and gays to go back into slavery and the closet, respectively, and afaik no one likes Stanford’s, and the other locations around town have closed as well so one could argue crime is a flimsy excuse for an already failing business.

BadM00

Your generalization of Cracker Barrel customers is idiotic. Do better. Businesses don’t close and give reason like that for fun. They would rather sell if that location is not profitable, saying that the area is dangerous is not a good way to boost the value of what they want to sell…..

Tehlaserw0lf

Generalization? They had to defend themselves three times against discrimination. How is any of “Cracker Barrel doesn’t like blacks or gays” when there’s documented proof of that, a generalization? Are you really gonna try this weird “not every location” idea or…what?

fidelityportland

> They had to defend themselves three times against discrimination. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Guess how many times Starbucks or Kroger has had to defend themselves against Discrimination lawsuits?

BadM00

Yes, generalization, you literally called every customer of a nationwide restaurant chain with over 650 locations, a racist. That is ridiculous. But hey, carry on with your fun.

fidelityportland

Well, you know 2022, everyone is a racist. I'm a racist, you're a racist, that other poster is a racist, my mom's a racist, Obama's a racist, the Woke corps are racist, the anti-racist are racist. Find the person who says "Oh, I'm not racist!" and you got yourself *absolutely* a racist person, it's practically guaranteed. Why can't we just be racists, together? Why do we have to be so mean about it?

BadM00

Well you have a good point, want to meet and have waffle and talk about it? Oh wait ,,,,,

Blastosist

Seems like a broad generalization. It’s an inexpensive family style restaurant where price conscious people eat and employs many local Oregonians

Tehlaserw0lf

And yet, they settled cases in 04’ 06’ and 10’ over discrimination. It’s very easy to find results for this. Plus, the whole not serving booze is a Christian thing. Christians are the ones trying to take away abortion rights, their businesses are, in my opinion, engines toward that end, and should, themselves, end.

Blastosist

“ People eating there are the ones who want blacks and gays to go back into slavery and the closet, respectively, and no one likes Sanford’s” This seems like the kind of thinking that got us into this mess in the first place . I submit that the lack of public safety, vandalism and theft have a negative effect on businesses, perhaps greater than allegations of racism and the righteous indignation from urbanites who most likely would never eat there in the first place.

Tehlaserw0lf

You’re right, I choose not to eat at Christian restaurants. Nothings wrong with that. Jantzen beach isn’t exactly a neighborhood. One could also argue that we shouldn’t be worried too much about places that only house retail businesses especially when you’re trying to say the reason they closed was crime. And if crime really is the problem, why aren’t any of the surrounding businesses closed already? Feels like you’re just trying to trot out some “enlightened centerism” here

fidelityportland

> Feels like you’re just trying to trot out some “enlightened centerism” here Not at all, just shutting down some obvious bigotry dude. FFS, you OBVIOUSLY didn't even read the wikipedia page on Cracker Barrel, but are just pandering out some shit hot-take you borrow from a subreddit like LateStageCapitalism. The company went through a radical change in 2004, kicking out their CEO who was anti-gay in 2001. Today, Cracker Barrel retains a high score with Human Rights Campaign, and their CEO since 2011 has been praised for their inclusivity campaigns, and is actually praised by Democrats: https://www.hrc.org/resources/buyers-guide/cracker-barrel-old-country-store-inc. You shitbag bigot.

Tehlaserw0lf

I’m a bigot…against Cracker Barrel. LOL please tell me that’s a joke And I love that tolerance, so graceful lol!!! Reeeeally turned the other cheek there! Hahahahahahahahah

fidelityportland

Dude, if you're going to mouth off about who is a bunch of a racist homophobes, at least GOOGLE IT FIRST. You're complaining about shit from 20 years ago that the company has worked hard *to overcome.*

Tehlaserw0lf

Only been ten years since the last accusation. Where in any of that was I a bigot? Still kinda just blurted that out. Which protected group am I singling out here?

fidelityportland

> bigot > Which protected group am I singling out here? LOL - you don't know what the word "Bigot" means, do you? Let me just break it down for you: > > **bigot** > > bĭg′ət > > *noun* > > One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ. Stop being a judgmental bigot dude. Just recognize that people from different cultures are complex people, with complex life goals and backgrounds, and are valid existing - even if their ideas contradict with yours. You, right now, are a bigot. Stop being that.

DefinitelyNotMartinC

> First of all who gives a shit about Cracker Barrel? I don't think edgelords on reddit are their target demo.

Tehlaserw0lf

Apparently edgelords are people who enjoy civil rights lol

DefinitelyNotMartinC

Yeah, if you eat the Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast you are basically pissing on Martin Luther King's legacy. What are you, 18 and in a freshman sociology class trying to get laid by the manic pixie dream girl you sit behind at Reed?

Tehlaserw0lf

Nope, an old worn out restaurant professional who votes with his wallet and talks about it on public forums. Sorry…? Wahhhh who’s gonna think of Cracker Barrel? Wahhhhh I swear you guys are such goddamn hypocrites

everyusernametaken2

“Professional”, lol. I worked in fine dining restaurants for 5 years while I went to PSU. Nothing professional behind the facade. Just a bunch of a drug and alcohol addicted washouts. Made good money but so glad I’m out.

Tehlaserw0lf

You can be drug addled and still be a professional in your field. You can be a criminal and still a professional, there’s nothing that says you can’t be two things at once my dude

everyusernametaken2

Despite the GM, head chef, and the sommeliers, no one was a professional. Anybody can do the other jobs in the restaurant with a month or two of training. Stop trying to polish a turd. It’s like saying “I was a baggage claim attendant professional”.

Dry_Nebula_8394

My sentiments exactly.

thismoustacheisonlyt

If I worked in PR at a restaurant chain that was looking to cut some overhead via the temp closure of a few locations, I would caution the team that it could hurt the brand and might imply that we were financially weak. That could hurt access to capital and weaken our bargaining position with our suppliers. However If I had an easy out and we could blame the closures on something else? I would definitely mention that as an option.

djhazmatt503

Shouldn't have fired Brad's wife. Good riddance.

OrangeKooky1850

Oh no. Don't go.

I_burn_noodles
